good morning, everyone. welcome to mornings on 2. it's saturday, november 12th. let's check in with rosemary for your weekend forecast. and is the rain gone? >> we are drying out this morning. the clouds still overhead, but that rain has shifted to the south and we're looking at dry, cool to mild conditions for your weekend. we will be partly cloudy throughout the afternoon, perhaps a light breeze. extended forecast brings us a few days of dry weather, we'll look at the numbers expected for your neighborhood coming up. the occupy oakland encampment remains at franco gallow plaza this morning despite a new notice from the city telling occupiers to get out immediately saying they're breaking the law. the notice says occupiers could be forced out if they do not leave on their own. earlier mayor quan pleaded with occupy oakland to break up the encampment. >> we're asking the campers to leave the plaza now, and to

leave peacefully. >> they're showing up to -- the cops are going to be causing the violence. >> the city is now offering space at homeless shelters for occupy members, but only two people have taken advantage of that so far. the new notice comes after thursday's fatal shooting near the occupy camp. someone shot and killed an unidentified african-american man in his 20s. now police are looking for two suspects. it is believed one of those suspects stayed at the camp frequently. we do have new descriptions of those suspects. both are african-american men in their 20s. oakland police and crimestoppers now offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and constriction in this case. another death has been reported at an occupy camp. police in sauk city, utah say

the body of a man in his 40s was found yesterday morning in the park where the occupy group has been camping out for two weeks. the man has been identified as one of the protestors, but his name has not been released. the cause of his death is not known, but police do not think foul play is involved. a woman at occupy vancouver was found dead last weekend. occupy richmond is hoping for a loan modification for a homeowner at risk of losing his home. the group is planning to march this afternoon to demand the loan modification, where members will talk more about the current foreclosure crisis. people are asked to meet at san pablo avenue and mcdonald avenue. the national spotlight is shining on the bay area this morning at the stanford campus. the oregon ducks are in town and on the line. the lockest winning streak as well as the possibility of playing for a national championship all on line today. ali rasmus is live at stanford punish there are huge crowds

already, right? >> reporter: that's right. we talked to a few students who said for the past week and a half students have been telling fell over tune to get here to the oval early and you can see they did. we pulled up here at 5. there were well over a thousand people. now you can see there's a couple thousand out here in the crowd. most of them stanford fans but also oregon fans here. and those stage lights you see, that's the stage for espn's college gameday. this is the first time the program's 25-year history they're broadcasting here at stanford. we also blow it's the first time they're profiting here in the bay area. it's always because of today's game between number 3 stanford and number 6 oregon. this is what it looked like from the front of the stage. obviously, the stanford fans out number the oregon fans. this is their home turf but they're all oregon fans. at stake is stanford's 17-game winning streak. and possibly a shot at the bcf

today's game. we're now hearing from the mother of a 12-year-old boy killed in a tragic accident while the boy and his friend were skateboarding near lind field drive yesterday afternoon. show you video captured by newschopper 2. police say the boys were both riding on one skateboard when they collided with a garbage truck. they say the truck driver tried to swerve when he saw them but it was too late. joey's mother came outside when she heard the crash. >> i ran as fast as i could down the street, and i went straight over to him, and i held him, and i talked to him, and told him how much i loved him. >> joey later died from his injuries. his 8-year-old friend had surgery and we're told he is expected to recover. there's now a candlelight vigil sell up at the scene of the accident. it will be difficult to recover from this tragedy. the highway patrol is trying to figure out what caused a solo car crash on

mount diablo that killed a female driver. her suv was found 300 yards down a steep embankment near the south gate entrance yesterday morning. initially, rescuers thought there may be a child with inside the driver because they found toys in the car. but the 58-year-old woman turned out to be the lone victim. a second car crash later in the day near the same spot caused minor injuries. an oakland neighborhood group is launching a surveillance camera pilot program today. according to the montclair improvement council, about a hundred residents have already signed up for the program. they do have to purchase the surveillance equipment themselves and for an extra fee the council will install it. the group says this program is a way to take back the community and help the limited resources of the city's police department. pg&e has replaced a section of pipeline that burst last weekend and is now getting ready to test that line again. that happened on the safety test on the pipe that runs along interstate 280. it's part of the same line that explode indeed season bruno

someone was seen jumping out of one of the cars, a gun was recovered, possibly an ak-47. but it's unclear at this time if any bullets were fired. this morning president obama is in hawaii. air force one touched down at hickman air force base last night after departing from san diego. the president walked off the plane with the first lady. and they're in hawaii for an economic summit bringing together asia-pacific countries. but before taking off for hawaii, the president taped his weekly online video address aboard the uss carl vinson in san diego. his focus, veterans' day. >> this day isn't just about thanking our veterans. it's about rededicating ourselves to serving our veterans as well as they've served us. and right now, that's never been more important. >> president obama will depart for bali and australia after his stay in hawaii. italian prime minister berlusconi is expected to resign today.

after the country's low parliament passed legislation meant to help the country reduce its debt and stimulate growth. the italian senate has already passed legislation, however, uncertainty remains over his replacement as prime minister. the favorite choice right now is an economist who is facing opposition from some italian leaders. this morning we're getting our first lock at the thousands of workers going inside the fukashima daiichi nuclear plant in japan which was damaged in the march quake and tsunami. officials meet the workers earlier today. they are repairing and decontaminating that damaged plant. the workers have to go inside the plant with radiation suits and afterwards they must get tested for radiation exposure it. could take 30 years to repair and decontaminate the plant. after weeks of flooding waters are finally starting to recede in some parts of the captain of bangkok. but things are still far from normal. the price of food has gone up by 40 and in some areas and the

floods brought many water borne illnesses. so far it's killed more than 500 people in that region. in just over an hour from now, the penn state football team will kick off its first game in 46 years without head coach joe paterno. paterno was fired this week in the wake of a child sex bows scandal involving formers defensive coordinator jerry sandusky, charge with molesting eight boys during a 19-year stretch. extra security practice has been put in place for today's game against the university of nebraska. police will be inside and outside the stadium with local and state police. officials say they hope to avoid a repeat of wednesday night, when thousands of angry students protested in the streets. >> i know this -- [not understandable] the fliers, the fliers have no effect on this. but we don't know what to expect. >> penn state's wide receivers coach who told a grand jury

that he witnessed sandusky assault a young boy nine years ago, has been put on paid leave. in his testimony, mike mcqueary says he reported what he saw to head coach joe paterno, who in turn told the athletic director. but the alleged incident was never reported to police. this week school officials said mcqueary has been receiving death threats. student held a candlelight vigil on campus last night. more than one thousand people showed up to show support for sandusky's alleged victims. fans at the game are being asked to wear blue to raise awareness about sexual abuse. and we are learning more about the kidnapping and rescue of washington nationals catcher luis ramos. he left a police station in venezuela, police commandoes rescued him in a flurry of gunfire in a remote mountain region where he was being held. he told reporters this morning that he is still very shaken up and that he is thankful to be alive. he says he did not know his

captors, they told him they were going to ask for a lot of cash for his release. the 24-year-old was kidnapped from his home in venezuela on wednesday. five of his abductors have been arrested. this weekend police in washington are stepping up their search for a missing toddler. at the same time, they say their frustration is growing with the two-year-old boy's mother. six days ago, julia says she was driving with her son sky when her car ran out of gas. she says she left sky in the car for about an hour while she went for help. when she got back to the car, he was gone. police say they are confused by her story and say she is refusing to cooperate. >> the police department is baffled by julia's story. we're frustrated with the lack of information we're getting from her although we continue to reach out. and we've got to try to find this little boy. >> the boy's father says he is also not heard from his estranged wife. this weekend he is canvassing the area where his son was last

seen with fliers, hoping someone with information is going to come forward. the search also continues for a missing baby named lisa whose birthday was friday. family and close friends held a private gathering to mark the occasion. she went missing on october 4th the her father says when he came home from work he found the front door unlocked, window open and lisa missing. her mother says she was drinking with a friend on the porch when lisa disappeared. the february is involved in the case. we've all heard of a dog eating homework. but this may be even a little stranger. the expensive meal of cash this dog had and how his owners got it back. >> mostly cloudy skies outside our door, will give way to partly cloudy conditions by the afternoon. live look of what we have, we'll look at the temperatures expected for your area, coming up.

that's presidential candidate herman cain, he is right now addressing the georgia young republicans at their fall meeting. a busy day for him as he gets ready for tonight's debate in south carolina. this morning a memorial service is being held for a marine from milpitas killed in afghanistan. 31-year-old staff sergeant steven dunning died on october 27th. his father says he was investigating an explosive device when he was killed. the service is going to be open to the public. it begins at noon at the jubilee christian center in san jose. a traveling tribute to war veterans on display today. it is called the traveling wall. and it's an exact replica of the original vietnam memorial seen in this video. it's only smaller and you can see the wall at memorial park in cupertino today. and veterans' day brought out a large crowd in the north bay. this veterans' day parade took place yesterday in petaluma.

hundreds of people lined up along the streets as some veterans marched in a procession while others waved from cars. >> there were a few injured, the rest were dead. how i got out alive, i don't know. but i'm here. >> i did it for eight years, in the army. i was in fourth infantry in that division. it was a life changing experience. that's what i joined for. >> the veterans administration says 23 million veterans are living in the united states. in contra costa county a few dozen people marked veterans' day at the lafayette crosses. with a vigil that included candlelight, music and speeches. this was the fifth veterans' day vigil sense the crosses were erected on the hillside. north carolina celebrating this weekend after historic veterans' day basketball win against michigan state. the win is historic because it happened on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier carl vinson in san diego.

game excitement. >> reporter: all that excitement started well before the sun came up. we got here at 5 a.m., and already this field here was just a sea of red. the official word from university spokespersons is at least two to 3,000 stanford supporters and fans out here. you can see there are hundreds of signs and off to the right here that stage with the bright lights, this is what a lot of fanfare is about. that's the set for espn's college gameday. program has been around 25 years, and this is the first time they've ever broadcast here at stanford. we believe it's also the first time this program has broadcast in the bay area, period. you can see mostly stan for fans in the crowd out here. but there are some oregon fans. we turn the camera off to the left you can see that the oregon van has set up here. they've been going back and forth between the band playing and the fans off to the right, the red sea of stanford fans cheering and supporting the

team. stanford is number 3 ranked college football team in the nation, oregon is number 6. and they're facing off at 5 at stanford stadium. >> we're expecting more than 50,000 in the stadium. and maybe tens of thousands more hanging out around the stadium, tail getting and celebrating the fact that this is such a huge game and celebrating stanford's success. >> university officials say students started lining up at 2:30 this morning just to be in the front of those metal gates. at stake here the game today is stanford's 17-game winning streak. the last time stanford lost was to oregon, and if they beat oregon today, not only will they maintain that winning streak, it could mean they get a shot at the bcs national championship. time for is 7:31. cal is also going to face an oregon team today. the beavers will take on the golden bears at at&t park this afternoon. kickoff is 3:30, and this is

cal's last game at at&t. cal and stanford meet next weekend. the penn state scanned company could have a big financial impact on that school. moody's placed the bond rating on review for downgrade. moody's says possible lawsuits, decreased enrollment and drop in support are all possible in light of the scandal. and it could lead to the downgrade. a decision is not expected for several months. tonight a daly city man is meeting with an immigration officer as part of his fight to avoid deportation, and protestors are asking people to gather at san francisco international airport to support him. jb says he has been in this country for 16 years. he graduated from the university of san francisco. then received notice he was being deported to the philippines because his family's visa had run out.

tonight at 6 p.m. he's meeting with the agent to discuss his pending case. supporters have being asked to wear green and to not carry any signs or banners. occupy cal is moving ahead to establish yet another encampment at the plaza. members voted at their general assembly yesterday to establish the encampment this coming tuesday. the vote comes after occupy cal first tried to set up camp earlier this week. campus police moved in, leading to a standoff. 40 people were eventually arrested. and this video shows two women being forced to the ground on wednesday after trying to stop officers from taking down the occupy encampment. the video has now led to accusations of excessive force. one of the women is cal professor celeste, who tells the bay citizen she plans on filing a complaint with the uc police department this monday.

campus police are not commenting but a uc berkeley spokesperson says a full investigation will be conducted. lawyers for two people hit by a car during the occupy oakland general strike now say their clients want the driver arrested. video shows the incident on november 2. you can see protestors blocking a mercedes and then one of them starts banging on the hood of the car. a moment later, the driver hits the gas. attorneys for the two people hit said that police let the driver go without a citation. they also claim officers still haven't talked to witnesses. lawyers are now asking future those witnesses to come forward. a traffic stop in oakland turned into a manhunt in oakland. police spotted a man driving a stolen vehicle yesterday. when officers tried to stop him he rammed their patrol car. no officers were injured in and the driver took off on foot. he is still on the loose this morning. the reward for a deliberated drowning of a cat on a peninsula has grown yet

again to more than $12,000. the cat was found floating in the redwood showers lagoon last week. the humane society says someone zip tied a 5-pound dumbbell to its neck and left it in shallow water. it was a black and white cat without a chip and had been declawed. public outrage over that drowning has caused many people to come forward and to donate money to the humane society reward fund. there are only a few days left for west contra costa county voters to save doctors medical center. the hospital has the biggest emergency room in west contra costa county with about 40,000 visits a year. but because of state budget cuts the doors are in danger of closing for good. right now residents are voting by mail on a tax estimated to generate $5 million a year to help save the hospital. >> if this hospital closed this whole community will suffer big- time. >> the measure needs a two-

thirds majority in order to pass. resident have until tuesday to mail in their ballots. if doctors medical center closes, kaiser in richmond becomes the nearest hospital for the community. hospital officials say kaiser has a smaller emergency room and less staff. the city of vallejo has a new mayor in morning. new numbers show current mayoroscopy davis has widen his lead over his opponent. davis has too% of the vote. it's a difference of 900 votes. ktvu received late word last newt she called davis to concede. some customers are still reporting problems with their iphones, despite a new software fix from apple. the update is meant to fix battery issues with devices with a new iof operating system. but according to the examiner, people have been posting messages on apple's website saying they are still having issues with their batteries. apple eyes sits did not to work on the problems.

the san francisco examiner is getting a new owner. they're selling the newspaper to the black press group from british columbia. clarity's ceo says the sale will help focus their resources on the east coast. the examiner was the company's only west coast paper. the price of the sale was not revealed. but it is believed to be less than the $20 million clarity paid when it bought the examiner from the fang family in 2004. good morning to you! giving you alive look here at the bay. we've got clouds overhead, little bit of patchy fog, but the rain is pretty much gone and we have improving conditions future your saturday. temperatures a few degrees warmer than yesterday. still cool, san jose 51 degrees. 54 san francisco. 50 at santa rosa. so not bad. we know it could be worse. and again you can see the gray skies there. but the radar not showing us much rain. we'll continue with demps on the cool side, but with more sunshine still for the

clear. right now caltrans highways no restrictions on 80 or highway 50 through the sierra. after being closed future 13 months, flood county park is set to reopen this afternoon. the 21-acre park won't get in on bay road has been closed to repair and replaced water pipelines. today's opening celebration begins at noon, and is open to the public. county officials say all park facilities will be open and ready for use. that includes picnic areas, the playground, and all a little let, fields. the bay bridge is celebrating its 75th anniversary today. it was november 12, 1936, when the bridge first opened to traffic. there will be a new span soon, last month crews placed the final section of the roadway in place. installation of the main cable is expected to begin later this year or in early 2012. today amtrak is also celebrating, its 40th anniversary beginning at 10 this morning. the public can view the exhibit train at oakland's jack london

>> go stanford! >> a wild morning on the farm as a lot of eyes across the nation are on stanford today for one of college football's biggest games of the season. good morning, welcome back to mornings on 2. we're going live to stanford coming up in just a couple minutes. but first, we want to take you to occupy oakland. the encampment remains at the plaza this morning despite a new notice from the city telling occupiers to get out immediately. the city served that notice last night, saying occupiers are breaking the law by camping on the plaza overnight. the notice goes on to say occupiers could be forced out if they do not leave on their own. the mayor made a personal plea to occupiers earlier in the day, asking them to leave peacefully but most people tell us they plan on remaining at that plaza. the new notice comes after thursday's fatal shooting near

the occupy encampment. someone shot and killed a african-american man in his 20s. now police tell us they are looking for two suspects and it's believed one of those suspects did stay frequently at that camp. we have new descriptions of those suspects. police are also now offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrested and conviction in this case. occupy cal is moving ahead to establish yet another encampment at the plaza. members voted at their general assembly yesterday to establish the encampment this tuesday. this comes after occupy cal tried to set up camp this week. campus police quickly moved in.

40 people were were arrested. this video shows two women being forced to the ground on wednesday after trying to stop officers from taking down the occupy encampment. the video is now led to accusations of excessive force. one of the women is cal english professor celeste who tells us she plans to file a complaint with the uc police department this monday. campus police are not commenting but a uc berkeley spokesperson says a full investigation will be conducted. happening right now, thousands of people are on the stanford campus ready for a game that is still more than 8 thundershowers away. ali is live with the die-hard fans. they got up bright and early but got a dark before the sun rose, right? >> reporter: yes, very early! university spokesperson tells us students started lining up at 2:30 in the morning just so they could be here.

news. cal is also going to face an oregon team today. the oregon state beavers will take on the golden bears this afternoon. kickoff is 3:30 and this will be cal's last game at at&t. cal and stanford meet next weekend on the farm. the bears need another win to become bowl eligible. the city of vallejo appears to have a new mayor. new numbers show current mayor davis has widened his lead over his opponents city council woman joann. davis has 52% of the vote while shively has 46 movies. it's a difference of 900 votes. ktvu received word lots night shively called davis to concede. there's only a few days left for a west contra costa voters to save doctors medical center. the hospital does have the biggest emergency room in west contra costa county, with about 40,000 visits a year. but because of state budget cuts, its doors are in danger every closing for good. right now residents are voting by mail on apartment j, a tax estimated to generated $5

million a year to help save the hospital. >> if this hospital closed, this whole community will suffer big-time. >> measure j needs a two-thirds majority to pass. residents have until tuesday to mail in their ballots. if doctors medical center closes, kaiser in richmond becomes the nearest hospital for the community. hospital officials say kaiser has a smaller emergency room and a smaller staff. tonight a man is meeting with an immigration officer as part of his fight to avoid deportation. and protestors are asking people to gather at san francisco international to support him. jb says he has been in this country for 16 years. he recently graduated from the university of san francisco with a pre-med dreg, hoping to become a dentist. then he received notice he was being deport to the philippines because his family's visa had run out. tonight at 6, he is moating with the agent to discuss his pending case. supporters are asked to wear

green and to not carry any signs or banners. disgruntled workers at me pueblo foods are getting attention. yesterday the president of board of supervisors showed up to talk to employees. in april employees began complaining that 300 workers throughout the chain had been unjustly fired. labor groups have also accused the company of punishing people who complained about working conditions. but he says the layoffs were strictly an economic decision. >> the union targeting -- taken this opportunity to use anything they can to exploit these unfortunate reductions in the past. >> he came because they distributed a letter inviting the public to discuss the issues with employees. but he was asked by management to leave. he is now set up a hotline for employees and this could all lead to a public hearing. the bay bridge is celebrating its 75th anniversary today. it was november 12, 1936 when
