marsh. and menlo road. >> there is a tow truck trying to pull the big rig off the center median. it is going to last several hours since 2:30 this morning. it is straddling the median. and the truck, big rig was on its side up until an hour ago. they got it up right and they are trying to get it out of the middle of the freeway. that's what they are having difficulty with so far. it is a close up video of crews trying to move the big rig. it is as many as three tow trucks to get it up right. >> the driver and passenger who are inside the big rig when it crashed were not injured. >> it turns out that the driver fell asleep at the wheel. and collided here and there on the right side of the freeway. >> as the driver overcorrected, that is the big rig that

collided. >> now, here is the other problem out here. when the big rig crashed. it took out the center divide and where the concrete barrier broken off in chunks. right now they are working to patch it up. and put up the metal barricades right here. they are welding them to the concrete baerier and northbound side and after they are done welding, they have to do the same thing on the southbound side. and the big rig is trying to move it off of the center divide. off into the distance there. and having trouble with it all morning. chp doesn't know exactly when the freeway will be completely open. it can take another hour from now to get it all patched up and as long as noon. but we will keep you posted. live in menlo park. >> authorities in costa contra county ahead the verizon store

was robbed. two men wearing racks and all black clothing walked into the store with semi automatic handguns. one held an employee at gunpoint. the other held two you customers at gunpoint and took their wallets. the robbery is similar to two that happened in concord and clayton last sunday night. they have not said if they are connected. >> they are looking for the two protestors who were attacked during a quest occupy san francisco cobb march. >> this happened during the solidarity march. officers say they were trying to keep protestors from blocking the broadway intersection when a woman sliced an officer's hand with an exacto blade. another protestor cut an officer's face and tore his uniform. the two attackers escaped back

into the crowd. this morning "occupy oakland" issued a new eviction notice. they estimate there be 800 there. they said occupiers not only need to get out but when they do they need to stay away from other city property. so far some people have voluntarily left. >> i would like to see the people pack up and leave and not have the police to come and raid it which they are going to come and do. those that know us, know it is coming. still no word from police whether a raid on the camp would take place. occupy protestors held their own demonstration yesterday with several hundred people marching up broadway from the jail. the first raid on the "oak

pie oakland ken campment has been weeks. its the evening of october 25th. they used tire gas and claimed the protestors threw bottles. and they received complaints about the october 25th response. but only 12 of those complaints came from people at the protest. the iraq war veteran injured during the october 25th war protest is out of the hospital. scott olson was discharged on friday. the extent of his injuries are uncertain. occupy organizers say a police canister hit him in the head giving him a skull fracture. it is under investigation. thousands of people took to the streets in portland. stay with us here on two. ahead at 7:15. what led to this large crowd and how police are responding right now. daly city man scheduled to be deported has won his fight

to stay in the united states for now. jose lebroho showed up expected to be deported to the philippines but after a last minute meeting with an immigration agent he found out he could stay in the u.s. he came from the philippines with his family in 1995 seeking political asylum. his family's visa expired in 2005 and his request for political asylum was denied last year. >> how does that feel? >> relieved. you know, it can't get any better than this right now. >> he credits an on line petition with more than 8,000 signatures. he is now asking officials to reopen his case so he can stay in the u.s. permanently. he said his company is sponsoring him to be a legal resident and high school wife is in the united states on a work visa. this morning, three men are

in jail after police say they shot a man. it was in vallejo. the victim from san francisco was taken to the hospital and expected to survive. they arrested three suspects a the an apartment complex near the scene of the shooting. union city police are searching for a driver who struck a bicyclist and then drove off. it happened at the intersection. mission boulevard and decoat doe road. it was traveling north. the bicyclist was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. a new report is raising questions about structural tests on the main tower of the new bay bridge. a new investigation found a state technician falsified reports on other projects. they did not thoroughly investigate his work even though some concerns were raised by other employees. that technician is now on administrative leave.

the new span which is set to open in 2013 is set. concerns about safety on the new span comes as the bay bridge hit a milestone by turning 75. it opened back on november 12th, 1936 and 9 million cars traveled over it in the first year. 102 million traveled across it last year. they celebrated the milestone by focusing on the bridge's future. >> just like the bridge has stood for generations, the new bridge will stand for future generations. >> the new span has taken nine years to construct and cost an estimated six pope benedict xvi $3 billion -- estimateed to cost $6.03. >> if you -- $6 billion. we have flipped into the 40s and it would be worse if we have the clouds.

. good morning to you. mostly cloudy start with mile afternoon in store. thousands of people took to the streets of portland to protest the midnight deadline for the shut down of an occupy encampment. we want to show you aerial of the scene. you can see it is busy out there. 3,000 protestors on the street. the mayor told them they needed to vacate by midnight because of rising crime and other problems. however, that passed mostly without incident. one officer was hit with a projectile leading officers to rush into the scene dressed in riot gear. police shut town another occupy movement, this time in

denver. it shows you. we want to show you the traffic camera, it shows you that police weren't moving into the encampment at the park. officers did arrest at least four people and described the shut down as mostly peaceful. denver police told occupy members they could continue protesting but they could not camp out. in salt lake city, they arrested people after they reviewsed to leave. that shut down started at sunset with police asking them to pack up the tents and their belongings. >> the protestors can return to the park. they cannot stay overnight. president obama continues to talk with business and world leaders in hawaii. he is in honolulu for the asian-pacific summit. this is showing the president on stage with the ceo of boeing. the u.s. has a long way to go the president says in terms of economic recovery and unemployment.

more than a dozen members demonstrated with the preses department's upcoming visit. and they say they believe the u.s. is killing muslim insist palestine and afghanistan. the group is said to have little support in its own country. president obama spent part of his childhood in indonesia. the penn state sex abuse scandal is leading another college to talk about its own rack cautions against a camp counselor in south carolina, the citadel. they accused the counselor of showing him and another boy pornography. there is to be no wrong-doing. but they arrested the counselor in an unrelated case on charges that he molested five boys. well an emotional game this weekend. the first in half a century without joe paterno has head

that's the neighborhood where american airlines crashed 10 years ago. killing 265 people. the crash happened just two months after 9/11. some people initially thought it was another terror attack. they later determined the plane went down because of pilot error. a north carolina couple is suing air tran airways claiming they were sickened by cockroaches on a recent flight. bugs were coming out of the air vents and storage areas of the plane. they are asking for $100,000 for emotional distress plus the price of their tickets. air tran denies the allegations saying they are regularly treated for bugs. we want to go back to portland where thousands of people took to the street to protest the midnight shut down for the occupy encampment there. >> mark is live with more. good morning, mark. >> good morning, claudine,

there were tense hours and that is all subsided it this morning. you can see the area where we have the two parks that are for occupy portland. the last 75 days where people were camped out here. but a considerable number of the campers left in the past few days. since the order came down from the leadership that they wanted everyone to begin leaving if not out by 12:01 a.m. this morning. we had a sizeable force here and the one to 2:00 hour is when we had the peak of really the tension that was in the air this morning. one portland police officer got hit by an object. we are still not sure what it was. police have not clarified that. he got hit in the leg and the person who threw the object was quickly arrested by police. that that was the only arrest we heard about in the morning

hours. they can block one of the main thoroughfares for a couple of hours and then cleared it after the police requested them to do that right around 6:00 this morning. it was a cutestous request and the protestors obliged, there was a makeshift barricade set up that the protestors put at one intersection. but the self-policing we have seen by occupy portland. that came to effect. and took it down. now all the streets are back open this morning. what is going to happen next. that is the big question. we don't know what the tactics are. and these parks are closed as far as when you talk to the city leadership. they want them out of here as soon as possible and bring in the city parks crews and clean the parks and get them back up to shape that we are you know, suitable for public usage. it is a situation that we are kind of watching unfold as the

menlo park. the investigation continues into a big rig accident on 101. welcome to mornings on two, i am mike mibach, i am claudine wong. >> for awhile lanes had to be shut down because the big rig was blocking the roadway. getting the scene cleared. we are at the scene right now. they made some progress, ally. >> they have. a half hour ago we showed you the big rig. it was still individualling the center divide. now, you can see that is no longer, the case. the trailer of the big rig is off on the northbound side of one o 01 between willow road and marsh road. it took three towtruck it is to move them out and 15 minutes ago, we watched them move a hydraulic system to lift the trailer of the big rig and push it over to the northbound side of the freeway.

the trailer is pretty heavy. chp officers tell us it is loaded with 30,000 pounds of groceries. the accident happened around 2:30 this morning. the truck driver dozed off at the wheel and hit the right concrete barrier and overcorrected and plowed into the left concrete barrier, the center divide. chp is still trying to determine how fast the driver was going. >> basically, cracked or broke the officer divide which is made out of concrete. >> they flipped over. and landed on its side. >> reporter: now, caltran crews appear to be making progress with the other crews out here. it took out the center divide. they were working on it right now and had to use metal planks and welding them to what is left of the concrete barrier that was heavily damaged. in the meantime, there is another lane of traffic that is

open here on the northbound side and for most of the morning, it was down to one lane of traffic. there is two lanes of traffic open here on the southbound side. and southbound 101 between willow and marsh road. and could be a couple of hours still before they get it cleared up and completely open again. >> channel 2 news. this morning officers in east palo alto are on the hunt for a gunman. they were called to bay road. when they arrived they found evidence of a shooting but no victim. minutes later, they pulled over a car and realized the 22 year old driver was the victim of that shooting and trying to drive himself to the hospital. he is being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. and that is under investigation. a new "occupy" protest in richmond is under investigation.

>> dozens of protestors stood outside on mcdonald and san pablo. they are angry at the bank because of its part in the foreclosure crisis. it is including homes on lucas avenue. that's where they found five properties all abandoned and blighted. >> we are asking them to recognize when we are there, we are the community. that is our money in the bank. but it is our people, our neighborhoods, our communities that are losing their homes. some protestors tried to it take their money out of the branch but bank of america shut its doors. they issued a statement to ktvu saying it is a great place for the customers to manage finances and save money. >> they are making plans to upgrade the neighborhood that was destroyed in the pipeline explosion. they held a study session this past week about how to rebuild streets and sewer lines in the community. they are set to talk about the up grades next months.

eight people were killed and 38 homes destroyed in last year's explosion. residents insist richmond are back in their homes because of the gas line rupture there. fire department said a private contractor hit the pg&e line and it was about 10:30 yesterday morning. it caused an odor in the area and people in 25 homes were told to leave as a precaution. >> it was repaired at 11:45 a.m. and that evacuation order was lifted. >> they burst during a safety thank you testing in woodside one week ago. crews completed testing on the pipe without any problems. they will spend the next you couple of days with the pipe in a protective coating and in the hole exposing the pipe. >> six people are hurt and one person missing after a house exploded. it is the house water line yesterday. when the gas line was hit and

ruptured. >> the explosion hit the them and there were sick people hurt in the blast. >> we saw them coming down here running. trying to get people out of the house. there was teenage child on fire. his grandfather was seriously injured. of there is another man seriously injured. a 1-year-old is in critical condition. the extent of the other injuries are not known. five people are displaced in san jose. it happened on east st. john. it took firefighters an hour to knock down the flames. they safely escaped the flames. but the cat is missing. and two pet birds are found dead. it started in the kitchen when a pan of oil caught fire. damage is estimated at $200,000. a new state fire tax imposed on world landowners is being criticize dollars. california's forestry board voted to raise the fire

protection fee to $150 a year on people living in rural areas where the state has the main firefighting responsibility. some home earns that live near the fire house will get a discount. they say it is another tax fueled by democratic appointees on the board. >> it is like trainle taxation. pay normal taxes and fire taxes and then you have this one dumped on your back as well. >> the extra fees will generate extra $50 million for the state. that is a fraction of the budget which tops a billion dollars. >> the 49ers could be one step closer to getting a new stadium in santa clara. they are expected to approve $10 million in funding to begin preconstruction at the site. includes moving and using utilities. it is the actual stadium construction that is scheduled

debate. how did they do? political correspondent carl is live in greenville, south carolina. want to get right at it. they are waking up and are they looking at a whole new campaign trail after the debate last night? >> probably not. >> reporter: we are 52 days away from the first votes in iowa. last night was the 10th debate for the presidential candidate and only one focused on foreign policy and international affairs. there were no gaffes like in weeks passed and the race is pretty much the way it is before the debate. mitt romney the former governor of massachusetts considered to be widely viewed as the most likely ultimate nominee and most polls. 45% said he is likely to win. and that's more than all his other rivals combined. romney was not attacked. no one alleged flip flops when it came to foreign policy.

he came in and left unscathed and his position in the polls are is the same. rick perry had the most to lose. he had a fairly catastrophic debate and he couldn't remember parts of his policy. last night no such problems. he showed that he had a strong command of issues and at one point dominated the discussion that said all foreign aid needs to be zeroed out like israel and others that is not feasible. by doing so, he set the tone for the big chunk as all the other candidates answered whether they should be continued on a case by case basis. overall, the strongest performance in part because it was gaffe and sam-miles-an-hour free and something of a reset. and here in south carolina, he desperately needs. if the texas governor has a must win state. it is here in south carolina.

>> in a lot of the debates and there have been a lot. president obama is targeted. how hard did they go after each other last night. one thunk they agree on is that he should be a one term president. they had something negative to see about the incumbent and best summarized that he has exceptionally blown it in terms of dealing with the arab and muslim world. he has done everything wrong. they rank from pakistan. afghanistan, iraq, iran and unity among republicans suggesting president obama has not been able to deal with the problem effectively. that is essentially what they have been talking about domestically. that is the first time and again, the races among republicans they are running against each other. how they distinguished one another from themselves is far

more important than how they compete for the best hit on the democrat, president obama. there was plenty of it last night. >> real quick. before we let you go. michele bachmann's campaign is not too happy about the debate. what are you hearing about it in south carolina. >> well, they are complaining that they were not given a fair opportunity for her to express her views and something of a fix. set in advance by the debate hosts. cbs news and national journal. there was an e-mail that circulated and going to the backman campaign inadvertently in which they were discussing the likelihood she wouldn't get may be questions: the bacha mann campaign said you can't be planning to treat us unfairly and got assurances she would get add quite time and she was convinced she did not and campaign aides complained

part of the freeway for hours this morning. ally has been on the scene and she joins us on the phone to tell us what has been happening. >> right now. all the northbound lanes on 101 and marsh. and willow road are open again. it is the southbound side. and no problem at all. that's where we have it set up and 7:30 reports. and you have to move because that side of the freeway is not open. on the southbound side. it is still closed. that is where we are right now. and all four lanes are at a stand still. this is because of an accident involving a big rig truck that happened around 2:30 this morning. the truck driver dosed off at the wheel and they are trying to determine how fast he was going. but they were not injured. what caused all the problem assist the big rig hit the center divide and ended up straddling the divide between

the north and southbound lanes of the freeway. and it hit the trailer and out into the middle. part of the reason why it is so difficult. chp told us the trailer had 30,000-pound of groceries in it and it was very heavy. they had to separate the trailer from the cab of the truck. the trailer is toed away. that was on the north side. and the cab is out of the way and the northbound sides of 101 are completely reopened again. but the cab of the trailer track is stuck on the southbound side. right now. there are several tow trucks trying to maneuver and get the cab out of the way. so, that's what is tieing up traffic on the southbound side of 101. this is 101. between willow and marsh roads.
