violence and no injuries to the occupiers or the officer. the mayor said the encampment was draining city resources. >> we had 179 public service calls on our 911 line that didn't get answered because police were downtown monitoring a demonstration. >> reporter: she calls for peaceful protests. >> we are asking everyone to respect my city's decision to close the encampment. even if we support the movement. i am asking you to not engage in destructive acts. >> reporter: we are back live from news chopper 2. there are 500 people a few blocks from frank ogawa plaza. frank ogawa plaza reopened 20 minutes ago. crews spent all day after the raid cleaning it and scrubbing it and reopening it. the plan is to keep the plaza

open, people are allowed to express their view point. the protesters won't have to retake the park, but they can't sleep here. rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. >> let's go to on the ground level, we have a live camera in the middle of the crowd. you get a sense how big the crowd is. it has been growing for the past hour. we are estimating a least a couple hundred people. they are on 14th street in oakland in front of the main public library. 14th street is closed right now because of the protesters. they be gone out into the street. what we don't know is what they are planning on doing. right now they are listening to people speak. it's possible they may march to

broadway. it is also possible they may march to snow park in another direction. there are other campers who set up shop there as well. we will continue to monitor this situation and keep an eye on the protesters to see what they decide to do. protesters from frank ogawa plaza have been making their way up to another encampment, snow park. near 19th street and lake side drive. news chopper 2 flew over the park. 2 dozen campers have been set up but its days could be numbered. campers are allowed to stay there today but the department does plan on evicting them. police officers got ready for the raid early this morning. i want to show you a picture before the raid. it shows officers from a number

of different departments. there were 349 officers involved. they were preparing in a staging area in the marking lot -- in the parking lot. word got back to the protesters at frank ogawa plaza that the officers were there getting ready to move in on that encampment. here is a time line that everything happened. protesters started protesting at frank ogawa plaza last month. october 10. the tents were there for two weeks before police removed them during the first raid on october 25. few days after that the tents were back up and the numbers kept growing till this morning when officers closed down tent city. >> while f-f is clear, many say the mayor's future is murky. another aid resigned. ktvu's ken pritchett is live in oakland with what he says the mayor made a mistake.

>> we heard rob roth mention the traffic reopened at frank ogawa plaza, that's 14ing and broadway. we have seen traffic starting to resume. now to the top aid. he feels pressure from downtown merchant, and police led her to flip-flop on removing the camp. he is a long time friend of the mayor but no longer in her service. dan knew what he had to do, resign. >> i consider it a necessary counter productive to the values and principals we be shaird since 1968. >> reporter: he says the mayor mishandle "occupy oakland" by calling in police. >> i do. i do. i think she has been too influenced by people on the other side who were demanding the camp be closed. >> reporter: the mayor only briefly addressed the regination of her adviser and

friend. >> she moving on. i am moving on. >> he should have been fired weeks ago and that would have brought an end to this. >> he says his public support of "occupy oakland" put the mayor in a week position. >> her political term will be shorter. >> reporter: supporting "occupy oakland" was in the city's best interest and despite his resignation he says the mare has time to right her administration. >> i think she could get past this if she stops making these mistakes. >> at 6:00, we will hear what he thinks the mayor needs to do to recover and fight off a recall effort. ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. >> businesses in oakland have been impacked by the protests from vandalism to violence. they say the demonstrations hurt their bottom line.

ktvu's robert handa at more at 5:30. in portland oregon, protesters were evicted and they left the parks in bad shape. the city estimated the clean up would cost $19,000 but that was before they got a look that damage. police arrested 32 people in a occupy encampment. it's the second time they have been raided. police say the county may put a fens up to keep protesters from returning. and tensions ran high in denver as protesters clashed with police. officers arrested 17 people on saturday, three yesterday. all of this from police efforts to clear furniture and tents

reassure the public that the new bay bridge is not a boon dog that was suggested. ktvu's ken pritchett is here now. >> reporter: the work goes on here at the bay bridge. over the weekend caltrans fired a technician responsible for falsely verifying that some projects have no structural weaknesses. >> reporter: he insists the bay bridge's safety hasn't been compromised. >> after investigation of the bay bridge and all the testing, we are confident it will perform as designed and we don't have any concerns about any of the work that went into the foundation. >> reporter: they say they fired the inspector. those falsifications include two southern california overpasses and a highway sign

officers. this crowd has been on the move for the past 20 minutes, marching 6 blocks from the library down to frank ogawa plaza. what happens now is pretty much anyone's guess. earlier today the police chief said protesters would be allowed to gather at frank ogawa plaza to exercise their free speech rights but he said they will not be allowed to camp there every night. it's a situation that is continuing to develop. we just got information that the 12th street bart station, right there, is now closed as a result of all of this. we will get more information for you and keep you updated. the nation's highest court today stepped into the fight over healthcare reform. they will decide whether the government will require all americans to buy health insurances. >> there will be some who will ask what has already been the

san francisco" movement are keeping a close eye in oakland. dozens of tents are set up. organizers fear their demonstration may be shut down as well. >> all these things point to the direction that the cities are mobilizing. >> two police officers were reportedly slashed with raisers in san francisco yesterday. there is no word on whether police made arrests. regents canceled meetings because of threats of violence. they were scheduled to meet wednesday and thursday. top officials said they will reschedule bought law enforcement advised them. they were scheduled to address funding requests. cal state is proposing a hike next fall. the $500 increase is on top of

a 12% hike this week. 9% in 2010 and 32% in 2009. if it's approved they would pay $7,000 annually in fees and tuition. they wouldn't need to implement the hike if the state increased funding. as we know, san francisco elected a new mayor but new numbers show voters didn't have much interest in anyone. ktvu's david stevenson is here now with what voters didn't do. >> reporter: the election is over but numbers are coming in and it's raising questions how the how future candidates will run their campaigns. >> reporter: all the votes cast in san francisco are counted. today the man in charge said voters offered up twists. >> i was surprised by the
