music, speeches, spread your message but what you will not be able to do is camp over night. and leaders will enforce that strongly. this comes after the "occupy oakland" camp was dismantled this morning without the violent clashes. ktvu's rob roth is live at frank ogawa plaza where it is not the end of the movement that gripped the city for weeks. rob? >> reporter: we are across the street from frank ogawa plaza. about an hour ago almost no one was here, now hundreds. the city is permitting protesters but no camping. they removed them this morning in a raid that went smoothly. the morning began with a

march on the occupiers and their supporters. police came in huge numbers for backup and police watching from the air. [ singing ] >> reporter: some sang songs as police moved in to arrest them. >> reporter: police arrested 33 people. no violence or any injuries. the mayor who first resisted said the conditions badly deteriorated. >> it was no longer about the financial system, closures, unemployed, it good b came a police where we had violence and this week a murder. we had to bring the camp to an end before more were hurt. >> reporter: officials made another decision to keep the frank ogawa plaza open for peaceful protests around the

clock but no sleeping or camping. >> we don't have any reason to keep people out of the plaza because it's a public domain. we are trying to reduce any type of hostility. >> reporter: you can see police are here and they are visible. the city is hoping for a peaceful evening but police say they are prepared incase it is. rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. "occupy oakland" demonstrators knew police were on the way thanks to twitter. they park outside the coliseum tweeting warnings to those at frank ogawa plaza. they did it because they don't agree with the econviction. >> one protester remains in the plaza tonight. he is in a tree outside oakland

city hall. he gained attention in 2008 at university of california at berkeley when the school was going to cut down a grove of trees. they are letting zachary running wolf be. the occupy camp may be broken up but the political fall out is far from over. ktvu's ken pritchett has more. >> reporter: one of the top advisers resigned after the police moved into the camp this morn. the mayor face as potential recall of potential no confidence vote. but the political damage can be repaired. >> reporter: the police raid this morning ended o-o. it permanently ended dan's position in the mayor's office. >> when it became clear this morning the police were coming to break it up again, i did send the mare my resignation. >> reporter: he says the mare

made a mistake calling in police. the mayor spoke briefly. >> he is moving on. i am moving on. >> reporter: it is the second high profile departure since o- o began and a recall effort gained steam. with volunteers gathering signatures. >> there is 160 days that we have to gather the signatures. my estimation is this will occur long before 160 days. >> right now the mayor is in trouble. 73% of the voters are unhappy. >> reporter: he says the mayor's waffling is damaging politically but he says she can recover, first by keeping protesters from rooccupying the plaza and showing downtown is safe. >> rebuild a relationship with

the business community quickly, otherwise she will be toast. >> no confidence vote has been floated but it's not on the adjournedda and it's unclear if or when that would happen. ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. oakland merchants were happy to end the end of the encampment saying it was ruining their businesses. >> 60%, you know? we don't make money here. >> they plan to take advantage of the publicity by launching a program asking the public to visit, slop and eat in oakland. police released details of the gunman in the shooting last week. investigators say the man was known to be a resident of the camp and behaved erratically. he is 20-25 years old, weighing 150 pounds. a $10,000 reward is offered for information leading to his

the movement. police are on the scene of a robbery. happened an hour ago of sun kiss drive. officers say three people entered the home, one carrying a weapon. police say a man was shot in the leg, he is now that hospital. the three robbers all got away with $1,500 in cash. >> friends and family of a girl killed in a drive-by shooting gathered today. she was a freshman. she was shot and killed on november 4 as she left a party. three other teens were wounded. 5 suspects from 17-23 have all been arrested in connection with the shooting. reno police say the man accused of killing the president ofs angels has been

extraditeed to november. jeffrey pettigrew was killed. san francisco police arrested ernesto gonzalez in connection with the shooting. he is a member of the motorcycle club. caltrans fired a working who inspected the bay bridge foundation. it came after a story came out alleging he performed tests with uncalibrated equipment. caltrans said they fired him for false firing reports on other projects but the work on the bay bridge was acceptable. >> after investigation on the bay bridge we are confident it will perform as designed and we ever no concerns about the quality of the work. >> caltrans spokesperson said one inspector could not effect the overall quality of the bridge. the fbi is investigating a

grade changing scandal at santa clara university. they are saying hackers changed grades of students last year and this year. administrators say there is no evidence that personal information has been tampered with. three uc berkeley grads are saying thank you. shane bauer, joshua fattal and sarah shourd was in minnesota today. the laura bush is giving a speech in the bay area tonight. she is scheduled to headline the speakers series in walnut creak. tori campbell is mcing the event. a school officials may be able to pay off a $28 million loan. the superintendent says the district has enough money to make a final payment of $8 million.

if the plan passes an audit and gets an okay, it will free up $4 million a year for schools. officials in san francisco want business owners to find a safer alternative to rat poison. calling for a voluntary ban on rat control products. the chemicals can be harmful to children and pets. >> the verdict is in. epa said anuresessable risks, period, that means it should be off the market. their camp has been dismantled but they won't back down. we were following the o-o

the occupy protests in oakland. live pictures at frank ogawa plaza, there are hundreds of people who gathered. early this morning, 350 police came in, moved out all the tents. the protesters this afternoon gathered in front of the oakland public library, six blocks away, marched down to frank ogawa plaza, that is where they are now. the police chief said the

protesters will be allowed to come down there and exercise their free speech rights but no one will be allowed to camp there overnight. we also need to tell you the twelfth street bart station is closed as a result of this. and so far now things have been peaceful but we need to point out, every time there have been problems with the protests they always happened at night. we will keep a close eye on this. more for you coming up at 7:00 and complete live coverage at 10:00. john emphasized his support for the occupy movement and his disapproval of violence. >> certainly there is a serious problem with wall street. they are getting bonuses, not making loans, haven't dealt with the mortgage crisis. >> he said he feels occupiers have a issue but insisted

demonstrations should be nonviolent. university of california at berkeley students are suing over the clash during "occupy cal" demonstrations. attorneys announced the lawsuit today. they say police used excessive force during these peaceful protests and the university did nothing to stop it. >> we are all very, very lucky that the injuries that we sustained weren't us with but they should never ever have happened. >> all of this comes ahead of a general strike set to happen at university of california at berkeley tomorrow. mark said today the bord of regents meeting has been canceled because it could constitute a disrecord of law

today marks the beginning of crab season but a strike is keeping crabbers in san francisco out of their boatsboats. they say last year they charged a $1.75 a pound but this year they wanted to charge more due to higher gas prices. they say there is attention between them and out of town boats that are getting most of the catch. mark is here now.

the top sports story, the nba. >> we feel like the little boy who cried wolf. probably not going to happen. now it looks bleak. as expected the players rejecting the latest proposal from the owners. this thing may end up being decided in court as the players are going to disban their union and take anti-trust action against the owners and this could mean the end of the nba season. doesn't look like it will get done soon. this time last year we were talking about buster posey national rookie of the year. instead it's a couple of pitchers. braves closer deserving. he is the national league rookie of the year. 46 savers. in the american leagues, a

starting pitcher who gets the nod from tampa bay. he did a great job, 13-10 records. and a 2.59 e.r.a. we could also at this point rehash the 49ers great victory over the new york giants but i wanted to show you video from the dallas cowboy video. look at the bills scoring their only touchdown of the day. there he is. david nelson. he congratulates his teammates but his girlfriend is a dallas cowboy cheerleader. he gives her a hug and then the football and on your tv set you could tell she is blushing. and that was the only touchdown they scored, they lost 44-7 to the cowboys. that's the sporting life. little romance in sports. >> thank you. thank you for trusting ktvu channel 2 news.
