"mornings on 2" starts right now. well, good morning to you. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. welcome back. >> thank you. >> it's tuesday, november 15th. the occupy movement returns to the uc berkeley campus. students and staff are being asked to go on strike to protest tuition hikes and other cuts. allie rasmus joins us live from sprowl plaza with a busy day coming up. >> reporter: good morning. students are setting up and

getting sprawl plaza ready. over to the left, you can see they've set up a chalkboard and a sitting area. that's because they are gonna have work shons this moving. the subject of some of the workshops will have to do with the way the schools are funded. students say that's really what the heart is at of what they are protesting today. at noon, uc students and fact ill supporters -- faculty and supporters are planning to right here -- planning to meet right here. one of the students here told us what motivated him to get involved tad -- involved today. >> you couple that with how much tuition we'll be paying. you couple that with prospects of finding a job and the

amounts of student loan debt and it kind of wakes you up. >> reporter: now, later on this evening, student also also decide by a vote whether to reestablish an occupy cal encampment right here. students tried to do that on wednesday until university police stepped in and they broke up the encampment. students clashed with police at the demonstration and students linked arm and formed a human chain to try to stop that. in the end, 31 students were cited for right sifting arrest and unlawful assembly. the chancellor said in an e- mail he was granting all of those tunes cited for arrest amnesty. back out here live, this is all part of a general strike and day of action that will be

[ chaning ] [ chanting ] >> last night, 1,000 demonstrators returned to frank ogawa plaza for a peaceful march and rally. many will send to the cal campus to join today's general student strike. >> the main goal tonight was to come back here and show that we still have a lot of support. this is still a massive movement. >> we took these picture as short time ago. only a few protesters remain outside oakland city hall. the demonstrators have been told they can still gather

there around the clock. there's no curfew but from now on no camping will be allowed and there's not a single tent in sight. mayor quan said last week's shooting made it clear that the situation at the occupy oakland encampment was getting out of hand and she felt she needed to shake more reaction until more people got hurt. two top aide at city hall have quit and the deputy mayor resigned. and legal add visor ran rezer -- adviser dan rezer resigned. this a live picture of new york city. a lot of people out there, signs as well. now, just after 1:30 this morning, new york city police moved into zukati park, ordered protesters to leave. police then clear out the park for the first time in two months. but juff about an hour ago, the

-- just about an hour ago, the lawyers guild announced it obtained a court order allowing them to go camp out again. coming up, we'll take you live to new york and find out what's next between the protesters and new york city officials. >> we'll have complete coverage of all of the occupy protestify and the cal strike. we'll have the latest stories and video on our channel 2 website. officer jonathan romolla was called to a home on friday morning for a report of an unresponsive child. now, when the officer arrived, they found a woman holding a 2- year-old boy having problems beating. the officer put his pinky finger in his little -- in the little boy's mouth and found food lodged in his mouth.

he was able to get the food out and he started to breathe again. there's a grade changing scandal investigated. christien kafton has more. forming. >> reporter: good good morning. >> reporter: good morning. someone hacked into the system changing students sometimes turning fs into as and other times minor changes burning a b into a b plus. the school combed through about 50,000 academic records and found those 60 plus cases of grade tampering going back to the year 2004. they believe the stewart breach happened sometime between june of 2010 and july of this year. the school says only a handful of records show any signs of

being tampered with. those students are at a variety of majors. the school is working hard to correct those grades. we took immediate action to secure our data networks and are working to correct any errors in our transcripts and our data system. >> at this point, school administrators say some of the changes were minor, all of the grades were altered and they don't know how they are connected. it seems clear that some of them didn't know what was going on. and now the the fbi is looking into this hacking scandal to find out what happenedded on the campus of santa clara university. back to you. >> thank you. 7:0. well, the city of san francisco may change its band on plastic bags. next week, the board of supervisors will consider

expanding the ban. this new proposal would ban plastic bags from all retail stores. shoopers, you would have to pay -- shoppers you would have to pay 10% for any bag you are given, including compostable and reusable bags. if this takes place, this will take effect in july. all right. we want to deep an eye on traffic with sal, especially contra costa county. >> yeah. we've had some problems there. the person injured there take away. the problem is traffic was backed up almost all the way onto the benicia bridge. now, highway 4 turning red. still slow in antioch and parts of pittsburg. as we move to the east shore freeway, we're getting slow traffic as well. that's heading to richmond as well and el so retoe -- el

hundred of protesters have been camped out behind me at the park here for a couple of months. the sticking issue is whether they will be allowed to return with their tents. at this point, they are not alouded -- allowed to come back with the tents and mayor bloomberg has said adamantly it's unsafe and it's generated very unhealthy and sanitary conditions. so the cleaning crews came in at about 1:00 in the morning. they got the whole park cleaned back up which is it now.

let me show you some of the images. some of the aerials give you scenes of police dressed in riot gear and armed with everything from their weapons and their gear to fight back those who don't want to see them there. at least 100 people were arrested right here on the spot, including several who chained themselves together or to trees using bike locks. now, officials have warned those that the city was being restored an those who did not leave, they would be arrested. and then the officers began to take down the tents and then the protesters rallied around the kitchen. let me show you video around the -- on the ground to give you a better idea of how this place looks. they began making barricades, the protesters put up makeshift

barricades -- barricades. the protesters chanted with whose park! our park! and the company that owns that park will be in here. let's listen to mayor bloomberg and what he had to say just moments ago. >> the final decision to act was mine and mine alone. the park has become covered in tents and tarps, making it next to impossible to safely navigate for the public and for first responders who are responsible for guaranteeing public safety. >> reporter: so now occupy wall street has a whole team of lawyers that are fighting for their rights and those lawyers have -- they have smitted a -- submitted a court order that would allow them to come back in with their tents.

a court hearing is skeled -- scheduled for 11::00 this morning -- 11:00 this morning. we're waiting to see if the judge will let them come back in here with their tents. the mayor has said absolutely not. this will be a political fallout. the park should be open within the next couple of hours. but i imagine they will wait until the court order to see if they can come back -- come back here and sleep here of. and the protesters say they are not backing -- sleep here. and the protesters say they are not backing down. back to you. >> thank you. a lawyer for michael jackson's doctor, dr. conrad murray, is facing a contempt hearing today. he gave a tv interview during the trial despite orders from the judge not to talk about the case. he criticized the prosecution witness and talked about the jury in the interview.

dr. murray, who was evacuated of -- convicted of involuntary manslaughter, will be sentenced on november 2th. the u.s. military is speaking out about a book written by a former navy s.e.a.l. that claims to describe the real version of how osama bin laden was done. he claims they shot bin laden 0 seconds within them arriving at the hideout. but they calling this a fabrication because they never -- he never spoke with the author, they say. >> reporter: alison burns is live in our washington, d.c. newsroom with a letter that was just sent to senate leaders.

a san jose man really hit the jackpot at an auction when he won a:00:00 county storage unit. now, it was -- won a contra costa county store an unit. it was a foreclosed unit. he paid about $1,000. but inside the container was 16 gold coins, spanish coins and several gold and silver bars. it turned out to be more than $500,000. contents of storage units can be auctioned off when the renter does not pay for it for three months and buyers have no idea what's inside. >> pretty nice return for a $1,000 purchase. let's check in with sal. things getting busy in downtown san jose? >> yes certainly are. all of a sudden, things are getting busy on 280 and 101. on 280 our cameras are looking north at bird avenue. you can see some slowing around the corner. 85 is slowing down. 87 is slowing down.

students an faculty with the occupy cal movement may try again today to set up a camp at sprowl plaza. members tried to set up a camp last week but police quickly stopped them. now, one week later, occupy cal wants supporters to attend an afternoon rally and march on banks before it votes on whether to set up camp once again. that vote will happen during a general assembly meeting. a strike in march will also

the street there is a high pressure pressure washer. >> reporter: despite a heavy police presence, three people spent the night in the plaza. i just went down there. two people slept on chairs. one on the ground. police stood, watched nearby but did not move in police say as lob as nobody pitches a tent, technically, it's not -- as long as nobody pitches a ten, technically it's not camping. snow park is located near harrison and grand. i spoke to a sergeant about 45 minutes 'about whether people will be allowed to stay at snow -- ago about whether people will be alow youd it stay at snow -- will be allowed to stay at snow park. the policy at frank ogawa plaza will be no sleeping but speaking is encouraged. >> we're here to facilitate a

the home and shot the victim in the leg. he's expected to survive. the three men made off with $1,000 in cash. a contra costa county sheriff's lieutenant tells the news deputies found the car used in a fatal drive-by shooting last night. one man died on ruby. the department told us a woman wounded in the shooting is still recovering at john muir medical center. deputies have not made any arrests. former penn state coach jersey sandusky breaks his silence about -- jerry sandusky breaks his silence about the sex scandal. pam cook has more. >> jerry sandusky is already charged with molesting eight boys. now "the new york times" report ten more people are telling investigators about their contact with a former coach. in a phone interview with bob kostas, he says he's not a
