out. next couple of systems tracking near the north. about a foot of rain now that won't happen for us. we will get some probably wednesday night into thursday. today fog, sun, cool out there. some of that ground fog and we will get a little breezy conditions. a little bit of 50s. did pencil in a couple 60s. here is sal. steve, good morning. traffic is moving along nicely right now. let's go out to the live pictures. san mateo bridge traffic looks good heading out to the high- rise with no major problems. also the morning commute looks good if you are drive up to highway 17. this morning on westbound 80 that traffic looks good getting out to the mccarthur maze. let's go back to the desk. topping our news in nearly a month there is not a single occupy camp in oakland. early this morning they cleared

out the snow park encampment in marrow. >> reporter: the park is at 20th and harrison. behind me there is a group of people formerly in the park overnight and police moved in at midnight and shut everything down. by all accounts it was a peaceful and smooth operation. at least that's what the people who we talked to told us. police came in around midnight and started asking people nicely will you please take your encampment? will you please take down your camp. people complied. we understand there were no arrests. people had to move out of the park. despite the fact the park was no longer here people we talk to say they are not giving up. >> more actions and demonstrations. come back here for sure every single day. as soon as all this quiets down, usually it seems like

three days is the magic number, we'll come back and there will be a camp here. >> reporter: you may have heard over the weekend a group of occupiers tried to take over a property at 19th and telegraph. if they did it didn't stay up very long. police took that down as well. the one at the plaza came down a week ago today. here at snow park a few people remaining on the sidewalk after police moved in and took down the encampment. i will try to check with the police to make sure if everybody was okay. reporting lye in oakland kraig debro. >> the newest occupy camp in oakland did not last long. dozens of police officers in riot gear told protestors to clear out of the vacant lot. police moved in less than 24 hours after occupy demonstrators pitched their first tent. >> they are like you have 20

minutes to evacuate. >> i was shocked they took their stuff down but i'm happy about it. >> the demonstrators left peacefully and there were no arrests. mayor gene quan says they will no longer be tolerated anywhere. time is running out for the occupy camp in san francisco. there are still about 200 camps. police raided a smaller camp outside the federal reserve bank at 101 market street. officers made a half a dozen arrests. many occupy sf protestors say they are expecting a raid on the big camp within the next few days before thanksgiving. city leaders are also dropping strong hints that the days may be numbered. stay with us here on ktvu channel 2 and online at ktvu.com. we will bring you more on the occupy protest at uc davis.

new this morning a man has three good samaritans and san francisco police officer to thank for his life. tara moriarty is at the scene of the early morning car crash with how they were able to free him from this burning wreckage. >> a cab driver and two men spotted this man slumped over in his vehicle after the crash. they decided to try to help. what they did was pretty amazing. they used this sign right here. they rammed it through the guys window in order to try to get to him. we're here on folsom street right in front of a sporting goods store where the accident has been cleaned up. a driver was heading eastbound on folsom between 12th and 13th streets when he slammed into a light pole fixture. the victim unconscious was trapped inside. >> i saw the car after it

crashed. i saw about three men run over there to try to pick up this folsom street sign and break the window with it. the gasoline you could see the drip to down. a little bit of spark. >> reporter: within minutes a police officer arrived and he used his own pocket knife to cut the man out of the seat belt. the man was transed to fm general hospital. we do think he is expected to survive. firefighters a arrived soon after the man was rescued and put out the fire. a lot of heros here this morning. live from san francisco i'm tara moriarty. northbound lanes of highway 101 in sausalito are back open this morning. that is after a firey crash there involving a chp vehicle. the chp says for unknown reasons an officer lost control while responding to a backup call last night at 8:30.

his patrol car crashed and burst into flames near the spencer avenue exit. the officer escaped but the chp had to shut down northbound lanes because of the fire which tigerred live rounds in the patrol car. the officer is believe to be okay. vandals are striking banks in contra costa county. they scrolled four words on the bank window. the atm was covered in spray paint. someone attacked a nearby chase bank. apparently the same vandals hit a u.s. bank on clayton road and scrolled the words anonymous and foreclosed on the windows there. two officers that pepper sprayed students are on administrative leave. two officers walked along a

line of seated occupied protestors and sprayed them in their faces. the campus police chief said it was the officers decision to use the spray. >> i see pepper spray as a tool for officers to use. like any other tool we carry and utilize, you hope and pray that it's used correctly and within policy. and that the after effects are not terrible. >> yesterday uc davis chancellor linda said that a 30- day deadline for a task force to investigate the police response. protestors are expected to travel to the campus today for a rally at noon. the uc regents will convene one week from today to make up for the postponed meeting. as campus police have cracked down on occupy protests. in a statement released yesterday uc president said he

expects campus officials to honor peaceful demonstrations. fulness a fairfield man accused of gunning down a vallejo police officer is due in court today. henry albert smith junior is accused of shooting and killing officer james capoot last thursday. it happened after smith robbed a bank and led police on a chase. if convicted he could face the death penalty. hundreds gather to mourn fallen police officer james capoot in an emotional vigil last night. he served nearly 20 years on vallejo police force. he was the beloved course of vallejo's basketball team. and he was a positive influence on countless other lives. >> i know it's a sad event and hopefully that the community can rally together and still

keep his legacy alive by the lives that he has touched and the many memories he has made in a lot of lives. >> in a statement officer capoot's family thanked the community for the outpouring of support. a man accused of plotting terror attacks in new york city is waking up in jail this morning. 27-year-old jose mentel was denied bail at a court hearing last night. he is a u.s. citizen bourn in the dominican republic who has converted to islam. he was planning to bomb police cars, post offices, and u.s. troops returning home. police say he's an al qaeda sympathizer. >> he talked about changing his name to osama hussein. >> new york police say they have been watching him since may 2009.

when they air forced -- when they arrested him he was in the process of building a pipe bomb. johannes mehserle could be in court this morning. oaklandoakland man kenneth said police used excessive force when they arrested him back in 2008. it happened six weeks before he killed oscar grant. mehserle served a two year sentence for involuntary manslaughter. traffic is doing pretty well around the bay area if you are driving on the east shore freeway off to a good start here on 80 westbound coming up to the mccarthur maze and continuing to the bay bridge toll plaza. this mornings commute is looking good at the toll plaza.

traffic looks good into san francisco with no major delays. if you are driving on the lower deck, there is road work. at least one lane is closed there. watch for that. this is a look at northbound 280 that traffic looks good getting up to highway 17. if you are driving on 17 that traffic is also in good shape. 440 let's go to steve. >> well, a lot of low clouds around. not too much in the way of ground fog. that could pop up for a break. and it looks like rain on thursday. just the way mother nature wants to work out sometimes. pretty good work out with that system that went right down into southern california. there it is. the pattern is very, very wet if you are heading up into the pacific northwest or northern california as we head toward the next couple of days. i have seen six to 12-inch projections of rain. you talk about a foot of rain between now and saturday. 30s and 40s.

warmer. still a lot of upper 50s for highs. overnight san francisco police arrested a man who they say shot her sister while holding several family members hostage. he pulled two guns on his family. as the family tried to escape through a window. luis fired a round toward his sister. she was hit in a hand. no unnails was hurt. luis was upset about family issues and may have been under the influence of methamphetamine. police are looking for suspects under the main site of the occupy camp. he was rushed to highland hospital. his condition is not known at this point. oakland police raided the camp one week ago. today begins a third day of fighting between egyptian

protestors and police. just about a half hour ago egypt announced 35 people have died in the skirmishes. protestors gathered at the scar. officers fired tear gas and rubber bullets in an attempt to break up the crowd. demonstrators have demand that egypt military rulers quickly travel power to a civilian government. in syria the tensions are reaching new heights. arab nations are pressuring syria to peacefully negotiate an end to the eight month long rest. 3500 people have died. also today members of the congressional super committee are expected to announce they were unable to come to an agreement on a plan to reduce the federal deficit. the committee was supposed to

unvail its proposal today but republicans and democrats on the committee accuse each other being unwilling to compromise. the supercommittee failure to recommend $1.2 trillion in budget savings is supposed to trigger automatic spending cuts in that amount. firefighters today hope to fully contain that wild fire in reno. the 9500 people that were forced to evacuate are now beginning to return home. a fire command center at a high school has been closed so students can return to class this morning. that fire destroyed 32 houses and burned three square miles. people are crediting firefighters to make sure there is no more demonstration. >> they moved the motorcycle out of the garage to save the motorcycle. i get excited about what made it and when i see something that didn't make it, oh well. it can be replaced. we got out alive. >> investigators believe 70 miles an hour wind gusts

knocked down power lines early friday morning and that started the fire. we could learn more today about the investigation in the penn state sex abuse allegations. the university trustees panel will hold a news conference this morning. former assistant football coach jerry sandusky has been charged with 40 counts of sex abuse scandals. they are trying to figure out whether staff or administrators failed to report the allegations. legendary head coach joe paterno and penn state president were fired in the wake of the scandal. right now it's 4:49. today a congressman from michigan will hold a press conference to deny allegations that he molested a 12-year-old second cousin more than 50 years ago. 82-year-old congressman dale kildee say they are concerted effort by distant relatives that tried to black male him.

the accuser son has asked him for money. the alleged abuse reportedly occurred back in the 1960s. most families are planning for a big thanksgiving week but charities including glide memorial church are looking for help to feed those less fortunate. reverend cecil spent the day collecting food. they said this year will be one of the roughest yet as former donors are asking for help themselves. >> the demand is so great. we are up 30% in demand. and the revenue is down because people are hurting. >> other food banks around the bay area say they also need donations to help them serve thanksgiving dinners this week. they are giving away bags of groceries to help people that have hit hard times in this tough financial environment. family and friends of a san

welcome back to the morning news. 4:53. the weekend rain turned a slow moving landslide into a major collapse. in september los angeles city crews fenced off this section of the ocean front hillside after the cliff began to crumble. no homes and properties are threatened at this point. but police are patrolling the area to make sure no one gets close to that unstable cliff. wow. back here at home. what is the traffic like? let's check in with sal. >> you know it's doing pretty well so far. traffic is looking good on the san mateo bridge if you are driving out to san mateo or the foster city area.

it's a nice looking drive. and this mornings drive at the bay bridge still pretty light. there is road work on the lower deck of the bay bridge eastbound. eastbound as you come to -- as you leave san francisco and head to oakland at least one lane is closed. 4:54 let's go to steve. >> our one system moved out. left some pretty decent rain totals. that is gone. but the moisture is not. we have to deal with a lot of inland fog. what does form usually forms north bay, east bay. keep an eye out toward san jose. so far it's low clouds. give our system credit. it stayed in there. boy, there is a lot of moisture streaming across the pacific. if you have travel plans to the north there will be heavity totals. for us we will have to wait until wednesday night and thursday. 30s and 40s. if it wasn't for the cloud cover it would feel colder.
