nicely in san francisco northbound 101 approaching the 80 split. there are no problems on the lower deck of the bay bridge. also this morning we are looking at the commute at the bay bridge toll plaza it is getting crowded. let's go back to dave and pam. there have been occupy camps in the city for nearly a month the city of oakland is unoccupied this morning. kraig debro is out there this morning. we will check in with him for an update in a little bit. the latest occupy camp in oakland did not last long. one neighbor took cell phone video of the scene at 19th and telegraph at # yesterday morning. that is where police officers in riot gear told protestors to clear out. police moved in two hours after they pitched their new tent. >> they were like you have 20 minutes to evacuate you're on private property. >> i was shocked they took their stuff down but i'm also happy about it.

>> the demonstrators left peacefully. there were no arrests. mayor jean quan says these occupy camps will no longer be tolerated anywhere in oakland. time may be running out for protestors in the occupy plant in san francisco. however early yesterday, police raided a smaller camp right outside the federal reserve bank at 101 market street. officers made about a half dozen arrests. many occupy san francisco -- sf protestors say they are expecting a police raid on the big camp in the next couple of days before thanksgiving. city officials were also dropping strong hints that the days of the main occupy camp may be numbered. occupy wall street demonstrators are taking their protest straight to the top. this weekend they marched through the streets of new york city upset they have been kicked out of the park. they plan to spend 24 hours camped outside the home of

michael bloomberg. the mayor says they are okay to demonstrate anywhere they want as long as they don't break the law. one group in oregon is fighting back against the occupy movement. they are calling themselves unoccupy portland. members call themselves the 98.999% and they are fed up with the trash and vandalism they have caused. they want to encourage occupiers to work toward measurable goals and get involved in their community in a nondisruptive way. the congressional supercommittee in washington, d.c. working on that plan to reduce the federal deficit apparently they are ready to throw in the towel. we will bring you a live report to our washington, d.c. newsroom why negotiations broke down and what happens now. 6:03. back home new this morning a

daring rescue from a burning car. tara moriarty is live in san francisco to tell us how strangers work together to rescue the driver. tara. >> reporter: how they did it they used a pole that is lying right here on the sidewalk. this is what they used to ram through the car window of where the man was trapped inside of that burning car. neighbors say it was a difficult scene to watch. the men risked their lives but it paid off. now just after 1:30 this morning police say the driver was headed eastbound on folsom between 12th and 13th street when he slammed into a light pole. the victim was unconscious and trapped inside. a cab driver and two men ran to help. this as leaking gas was fueling the fire. a police officer arrived and used his personal pocket knife to cut the man's seat belt and complete the rescue. >> without the intervention of

the citizens, that cab driver and other members sergeantest by know virginia and others, that person would have perished in that fire. there is no doubt. >> reporter: the victim who has not been identified, was transported to san francisco general hospital. no word on his condition. we do know he was breathing on his own when he left. firefighters extinguished the flames. if that man hadn't been pulled out of the car he might not be alive this morning. live in san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. an arraignment is set for a fairfield man accused of killing a vallejo officer. henry albert smith junior is accused of shooting officer james capoot last thursday. if convicted he could get the death penalty. hundreds gathered in vallejo last night. they were mourning fallen

police officer james capoot. many of them it will candles, recited prayers and shared memories of officer capoot. he was a husband, father of three, served almost 20 years on the police force. he was the beloved coach of the vallejo high school girl's basketball team and many say he was a positive influence on many lives. >> i know that it's a sad event and hopefully the community can rally together and still keep their legacy alive. >> in a statement that was released officer capoot's family thanked the community for all of their outpouring of support. the city of oakland is unoccupied this morning. early this morning they cleared out snow park encampment. kraig debro is in oakland this morning to tell us about what has happened in oakland. >> reporter: pam, there is just a handful of occupiers left on

the sidewalk on harrison. i asked them what they plan to do next. i didn't get much of a reply. police were here at midnight clearing out the camp. workers have returned to the park picking up trash protestors left behind. six city workers filled two pickup trucks worth of trash. one mattress, sign, and food wrappers. the supervisor on the scene told me this was a super response. oakland police showed up at snow park around midnight. it was their second occupy operation in two days. campers complied with police orders and began tearing down what they built up over the past week. one person tole us he plan -- told us he plans to move the

spirit a-- plans to move the movement ahead in spirit and body. >> come back here every single day. as soon as all this quiets down, usually it seems like three days is the magic number. we will come back and there will be a tent here. >> reporter: i've got calls into police to find out how many campers are moved out or if there were any arrests. from talking to people overnight it seems as though the operation went fairly smoothly. i would also like to find out from the city how many a cleanup operation like this would cost. i got a number and called the number to see if i can get that information. reporting live in oakland kraig debro. >> thank you. sal, how is highway 101? >> i'm glad you asked that dave and pam. pam didn't really ask that but we will tell pam any way. it looks pretty good if you are driving in san francisco along northbound 101 up to the 80 split. not a bad drive. southbound 101 is also looks

good if you are trying to get your flight down to sfo. these are travel days. we are keeping a close eye on all the airports. if something bad happens you will know about it. let's take a look at commute here. there is a little bit of a delay here. no major problems on the bridge. you will be waiting for a little bit. if you are driving in san jose, northbound 101 looks pretty good. off to a pretty decent start if you are driving on northbound 101. there is a minor crash reported. it is on the shoulder. a bit watch for it right there. you will see chp officers trying to clear it out of the way. let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. a very good morning. a break until wednesday afternoon and evening. it looks like the next system is coming in. we do get low clouds around. fog. but cool, damp. temperatures around 40. i have seen some 39s. los gatos up into felton.

a couple near palo alto and kentfield at 39. napa closer to town about 38- 39. temperatures below average. 56. these are forecasted highs. 58, 57, 59 today. those are all good about three to seven degrees below average. we will bump the highs up a little bit tomorrow. not much. today a lot of upper 50s. morning low clouds. some fog some of that fog this time of year after it rains you get the longer nights of the valley fog. watch out for pockets of that. our system left about a third to three quarters of an inch of rain. a lot of rain projected for seattle. if you have travel plans in the pacific northwest they are looking for a lot of rain. 37 napa. that is the coolest here. san rafael at 42. i did mention the 39. redwood city in at the 40s. a little cooler toward menlo park and palo alto.

welcome back to the morning news. it's 6:14. four months after congress created a special super committee to cut $1.2 trillion from the federal deficit. the committee is about to announce it has failed to reach a deal. alison burns is in our washington, d.c. newsroom with how each side is already blaming the other. >> reporter: pam f is right. tonight is the deadline for getting some sort of an agreement into legislative language. instead we are expecting a statement today from the super committee leaders admitting

they have failed to reach an agreement. in fact, all 12 democrats and republicans on the committee have not met together in three weeks. and negotiate negotiators have failed to break an impasse. >> democrats have made some pretty tough decisions and came to tough choices that we are willing to put on the line but only if the republicans are willing to cross the line on the bush tax cuts and be willing to say revenues have to be a part of the solution. >> we are painfully aware that the deadline that is staring us in the face. we have 12 good people who have worked hard since this committee has been created. but to try to find sufficient common ground. >> reporter: no deal means automatic across the board spending caps would be imposed that would dramatically cut many democratic programs. defense would be hit the

hardest. since the cuts don't kick in until next year members of congress say they believe they have time to overturn them. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns ktvu channel 2 news. our time now 6:15. later this morning president obama will sign a bill into law designed to help veterans find jobs. it also beefs up job training and counseling programs. this measure received very rare bipartisan support on capitol hill. a new hampshire senator is is throwing her support behind republican presidential candidate mitt romney. kelly iot is the first member in demands to endorse the candidate. a new poll of voters in michigan shows mitt romney beating president obama in a hypothetical matchup with

romney getting 46% of the vote compared to 41% for president obama. time now 6:16 a congressman from michigan will hold a news conference to deny allegations that he molested a 12-year-old second cousin of his more than 50 years ago. 82-year-old congressman dale kildee says they are concerted effort by distant relatives that tried to black male him. the accusers son asked him for money and benefits which he reported to the fbi. the alleged abuse reportedly happened back in the 1960s. in the next hour a penn state scandal about sex abuse allegations will -- failed to inform police of the allegations against jerry sandusky. the former assistant football

coach has been charged with 40 counts of child sex abuse. legendary head coach joe paterno and penn state president were fired in the wake of the scandal. we will take you live to that press conference. that is coming up on mornings on 2. with a number of official complaints about airport security workers is close to an all-time low. complaints about the tsa are down 59% since may of 2004. last month travelers filed 360 complaints about courtesy and screening procedures. that is down 516 from a year ago. sal, i saw you tweeted out asking if people take the whole week off or a couple days? we could see a lighter week. >> what people have been tweeting back as i look at my feed here is that most people will work on wednesday and then a lot of people have thursday and friday off. they just don't go back in.

in the bay area feel the most prepared and most optimistic about retirement. across the country 75% of the people asked say they are taking steps to prepare for retirement but only 18% of americans in general are optimistic that they will actually reach their goals. in contrast, 40% of the people in san francisco, oakland, and san jose are optimistic about reaching their retirement goals. get ready they are coming for bella. >> the twilight saga has staked out another huge opening weekend. breaking dawn part one took in $139 million in its premier. more than half of that came on friday as fans flocked to the theaters to be among the first to see what happens after bella and edward's wedding. happy feet didn't come close but they did earn $22 million. time now 6:21.

angeles is rubble this morning. take a look. weekend rains caused the land in the san pedro neighborhood to collapse. the city has been monitoring the road since september. fortunately the 900-foot section was closed to traffic when the cliff gave way. police have increased patrols around the area because warning signs and fences have not stopped people from trying to get a closer look. families and friends of a san francisco marine say they will if thankful -- say they will be thankful this holiday weekend. yeah 21-year-old private first class steven schwenka came home after serving seven months in afghanistan. his mom says seeing her son come through that secured area was overwhelming. >> i feel like my heart is going to explode. it's so exciting to see him and he's all in one piece.

single occupy camp in the city of oakland. early this morning police cleared out the snow park encampment. ktvu kraig debro is in oakland right now. he has the details. >> reporter: the camp may be gone but some of the people that occupy the camp are still here this morning on harrison street sitting on the sidewalk there. we asked them they said that they brought the movement here last week after the occupy oakland camp at franklin plaza was raided. city workers are picking up garbage across the way. police arrived at the park around midnight this morning. according to one camper police gave occupiers a chance to leave of their own free will or be stayed and be cited and arrested. many people retreated to snow park. one camper says the police were just doing their job. >> we were asked politely to leave. the police showed up at

midnight. a lot of us were getting back to the camp to get our things some people were resting and they asked us politely with no harassment thank god. they just gathered together. >> reporter: city workers moved in around 5:00 this morning and began picking up a large amount of trash. in fact, we have a live picture if we can get to that right now. you can see workers off in the distance there just under that tree picking up garbage on the ground. there was a fair amount over by the fence. they filled two pickup trucks worth of stuff about an hour ago. looks like they are back with one more pickup truck. if i can bend down i can see two of them are already filled up to the brim over there and filling up a third one. we don't know how much this has cost. we asked the supervisor. we gave -- i will try to get that number. this morning uc davis

announced its police chief is joining two other officers on administrative leave as the school investigates friday's pepper spraying of students. the department used this video to identify which officers sprayed the students friday at the school's main quad during an occupy rally. they walked up and down the line of seated demonstrators spraying them in the face. yesterday the chief explained her views. >> i see pepper spray as a tool for us to use. and like any other tool that we carry and utilize, you hope and pray that it's raised correctly and in policy and the after effects are not terrible. protestors from occupy sacramento are planning to travel to the campus today for a rally at noon. 6:33. the uc regents meeting that was postponed last week has been rescheduled for next monday. planned protests over

aggressive campus police activists was the reason it was called off. police got a tip that the protests could get violent. meeting on next monday will include extra time for public comment. vandals are targeting contra costa county banks. they scrolled the number foreclosed on aback in walnut creek. an atm was covered in spray paint. somebody attacked the nearby chase bank. apparently the same vandals also hit a u.s. bankon clayton road in concord they sprayed the word anonymous and foreclosed on the windows. mehserle is due back in court. >> reporter: jury selection in this civil case is expected to

start an hour and a half from here. a bart passenger named kenneth carrethers is suing johan these mehserle. the jury is expected to hear from a number of witnesses and mehserle himself. he will testify that he was trying to protect a fellow officer from carrethers. carrethers said he was kicked and punched after getting into an argument with them. it happened six weeks before mehserle was involved in the shooting death of another part passenger. mehserle served a year in prison after being convicted of manslaughter. here at u.s. district court again jury selection is supposed to start around 8:00 this morning here in downtown

san francisco. live in san francisco allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 news. 6:35. police are searching now for suspects in an overnight shooting at the former site of the main occupy oakland camp. investigators say a man was wounded around midnight at 14th and broadway. you can see here he's being rushed to high land hospital. we don't know his condition. oakland police raided the camp just one week ago. the northbound lanes of highway 101 in sausalito were back open this morning after a fairy crash involving a chp car. the chp says for unknown reasons the officer lost control while responding to a backup call last night at 8:30. his patrol car crashed and burst into flames at the spencer avenue exit. the officer did escape but the chp had to close down northbound lanes because that fire triggered live rounds into the police car. the chp says the officer was taken to the hospital and believed to be okay. a deadly collision in napa

is under investigation. driver hit a pedestrian at silverado trail around 8:00 last night. the pedestrian died at the scene but they didn't have any other information about the victims name, gender or age. the chp says the driver did stop and is cooperating with the investigation. a man accused of plotting terror attacks in new york city is waking up in jail this morning. 27-year-old jose pimentel was denied bail at a court hearing last night. he is a u.s. citizen born in the dominican republic that converted to islam. he was planning to bomb police cars, post offices, and u.s. troops returning home. he is an al qaeda sympathizer. >> he talked about changing his name to osama hussein to celebrate his heros. >> new york police say they had

been watching pimentel since may, 2009. they say when they arrested him he was in the process of building a pipe bomb. today begins a third day of fighting between egyptian protestors and police. egypt's morgue announced 24 people have died in the clashes. some 3,000 protestors rallied at cairo city square this morning. police fired tear gas and rubber bullets in hopes of breaking up the crowd. protestors are angry that egypt's military rulers have not turned over power to a civilian government since the fall of mubarak's regime. the reno wild fire is fully contained. 9500 evacuees were also slowly starting to go back home. look at these. the blaze officially destroyed 32 homes and scorched 1,935- acre. crews are still out there they are monitoring hot spots and

repairing hillsides that were damaged by bulldozers. investigators say wind gusts knocked down power lines. they then sparked that wind whipped fire. >> it was a fast moving fire. 6:38 is the time. back to sal to health care in on traffic. any problem spots? >> nothing major pam and dave. we haven't had a lot of serious crashes out there. let's take a look at the toll plaza. looks like a typical monday. we are not getting any of the lighter traffic that we may get later on in the week as things get lighter as we get closer to as we get closer to thanksgiving. we will have lighter than usual conditions. not today. at least not right now. as we look at interstate 880 that traffic looks good coming up past the oakland coliseum. as we check westbound 580 that earlier accident i told you about should be on the shoulder. let's go to antioch and contra

costa county highway 4 westbound traffic will be busy from antioch to pittsburgh and bay point. 680 concord pleasant hill that traffic looks good. if you are on 80 westbound, it's a nice looking drive all the way to oakland. i want to mention that if you are driving on nimitz freeway that traffic is also off to a good start with slowing on westbound 92 right near 880. let's go to steve. thank you. low clouds around. breaks in the clouds. clear damp and chilly to cold. if you think it's cold that is fine i understand. mainly upper 30s low 40s. cordelia 38. napa 37. upper 30s around palo alto. maybe where you live as well. kentfield 39 degrees. around 38-39. there is always a few pockets that get the colder air. our system has scooted out and

high pressure has came in. temperatures below average. we should be about 62-66 on the high temperatures for this time of year. those are the forecasted highs today. santa rosa, san francisco, concord. we will bump them up a little tomorrow. they are still slightly below average. have to watch out for that ground fog. now it's mainly out in the valley. sacramento, stockton, tracy. that is where you get the lowest visibility. around here it can pop up here. mainly we are getting low cloud deck. napa airport 37 degrees. a mt. loath of mid 40s here. san rafael at 42. i did see a 39 near mill valley. san jose down to 43. they are rink cooler than redwood city. not something you see a lot of the time. a lot of moisture. we will be okay until wednesday night when this system will buckle. if you have travel plans into oregon, washington, or california i would prepare for

right near lake merit. court arraignment set for a fairfield man he's accused of killing veteran vallejo police officer james capoot. henry albert smith junior is accused of shooting officer capoot last thursday during a police chase. after weeks of negotiations the congressional super committee in washington has not reached a deal on a plan to cut the federal deficit. today was the deadline to unvail their proposal. new this morning it took heroic act by strangers to pull a man from a burning call. tara moriarty is in san francisco with a firsthand account of this rescue. >> reporter: a pocketbook and a pole. this is the pole that was used by a cab driver and two others that they rammed through the window to get to the man trapped inside that burning car. the rescue happened after 1:30

this morning. a driver headed eastbound on folsom and 12th and 13th streets slammed into a light post and his car caught on fire. the man was unconscious and was trapped inside. >> the gasoline you started seeing the drips come down a little bit of spark and you knew that the car was going to be on fire. the flames grew bigger and bigger while they tried to get this man. >> reporter: the men were able top break the window and then a police officer arrived within minutes he used his personal pocket knife to cut the man's seat belt and complete the rescue. the victim has not been identified was transported to san francisco general hospital. no word on his condition. we do know he was breathing on his own when he left. firefighters extinguished the flames. now back here live you can see the pole here that was used to ram through the window. it is extremely heavy just to give you an idea how difficult it must have been for those men to actually take that and put

it through the window. live in san francisco i'm tara moriarty. time now 6:47. tests on raw milk from a california dairy they are expected to continue for the next ten days. last week the state recalled unpasterrized milk from organic pasters. however the dairy says none of its milk has tested positive for e. coli. a petition will be delivered to target today. we first told you about the internet petition last week. it now has more than 190,000 signatures. the petition was started by a target employee asking the company to save thanksgiving. target says they are opening up stores at midnight because some
