occupy -- occupy protesters relocate to a different area in oakland. it's not a move, though, that's welcomed by everyone. good afternoon, i'm tori campbell. they were chased out of city property and now occupy protesters have found a -- have found a new place to pitch their ten. as part of our continuing coverage on occupy protests, tara moriarty says the new protesters are getting a mix --

mixed review of their home. >> we're hoping 99%. >> reporter: protesters stake their claim to what they call a foreclosed property at 18th and lin din streets in west oakland. >> i'm very upset they are here. they kept my dogs up all night. where are they using the restroom? >> reporter: they seem disgruntled, some, that the movement was taking part in their backyard. >> i support the cause. i'm not gonna be sleeping outside my house. but i want to say thanks to those are and support them. their cause is right. >> reporter: he and his friend delivered coffee and doughnuts to protest eskers this -- to protesters this morning. we spoke to the homeowner reportedly in the process of foreclosure, gloria cobb, by telephone this morning, she said she did not get permission for these fro testers to get

here. she says it's unfair. they do whatever they want anyway. some neighbors denounced the new move, and others cheered them on. police eventually told them if they want to stay they will need written consent from the homeowners. >> occupy protesters who followed santa rosa's process permit can continue to camp there. police ned tents near santa rosa avenue and first street. they evicted 26 tents but allowed 1 to remain. those staying had previously applied for and received permits. it's without permits -- an those without permits were given the boot. >> people are talking about what our basic needs are separate from government and systems and money. >> time may be running out for illegal campers. their permits expire at the end of the month.

santa rosa has stopped issuing any more permits. >> uc davis' english department is joining students' calls for the university's chancellor to resign. students turn the main quad into an encampment. that's the same area where campus police pepper sprayed students on friday. police say they didn't make any arrests overnight. yesterday students heckled the chancellor off the stage as she apologized. as she left for her car, they chanted "don't come back." overnight, some uc berkeley protesters -- protesters slept under the car. the -- in the car. the occupy sleepover is the latest protest after cam fuss police aggressively forced them from areas last week. organizers told us they plan to be out there again tonight. coming up in about ten mits, the stay idate -- the

days of the sf camp appear numbered. they think they will probably be pushed out any day. find out what they will do to try to prevent that. testimony it is set? the civil rights case -- is set in the civil rights case with johannes mehserle. he's one of five b.a.r.t. officers defending himself in the lawsuit. the suit was filed by b.a.r.t. passenger kenneth carruthers. he says the officers used excessive force and violated his right. witnesses will testify that carruthers refused an order to leave the station, follow the officers and approached one with clenched firsts yelling threats. san francisco's ban on plastic bags could be expanded today. board of supervisors is said to consider legislation banning plastic bags at all retail stores and restaurants.

right now, the ban only applies to supermarkets and chain store pharmacies, the legislation peaking considered also includes a ten-cent fee that stores would charge customers for any bags they give out starting in 2013. the sters -- stores would keep the money. businesses in san francisco that offer free parking to customers may have to pay thousands of dollars for that privilege. the agency that runs muni is considering a proposal to charge businesses $1,000 -- a $1,000 fee permit each year. there are about 30,000 unpaid parking spots in the city and parking lots in places like stonestown galleria, grocery store and other outlets. by charging businesses a parking stall fee muni could generate $30 million each ear. but businesses are against the idea and the plan would have to

be approved by vote. the spirit of giving is alive and well in oakland where thousands are receiving a holiday meal for free. the event was nearly canceled because the city did not have the fund to pay for it. new at noon, allie rasmus joins us live -- us live at noon. allie? >> reporter: they just started letting people in. this is one of the lines. it goes all the way to the end of the block from 10th and washington to 0th and broadway -- 10th and broadway. inside, they had tables and chairs set up. the executive chef said the staff and volunteers have been working to prepare turkey, mashed potatoes to provide a thanksgiving meal in need. >> times are tough. times are tough. it just feels good.

military rulers after days of violent demonstrations. the military mentalled to transfer power to a civilian government by next -- planned to transfer power to a civilian government by next spring. three american college students are being held by egyptian authorities followed -- following clashes in tahrir square. american university in cairo identified them as luke gates from indiana, derek sweeney from missouri, and gregory porter from pennsylvania. authorities claim the students were throwing firebombs from the roof of a university building. relatives and school officials say they are trying to work to free them. president obama is in new hampshire today urging congress to approve the payroll tax cut extension, included in his jobs bill. the house of representatives is

in san francisco, occupy campers at justin herman plaza do not appear phased about the threat of a potential raid. there are signs that police may still move in. we are told the department has canceled all vacations and holidays. occupiers hope if they keep the place clean, the city will allow the law abiding protesters to stay. >> i feel like their condition of the camp is improving. it feels like everybody is pitching in. we're moving in the right direction. >> businesses nearly the ferry building have nixed -- have mixed reaction. some have accused them of shopping and driving. they support the movement and donate leftover food for them by the end of the day. contra costa county authorities are using surveillance images
