a vigil just getting started. >> reporter: to get the idea of that impact look behind me. since the last live report at five, this large crowd of friends, loved ones have gathered here at oak hill park, hundreds, possibly upwards of 500 who have gathered fort vigil set to start any minute now to honor a young man who died serving his country. a 19-year-old who followed in his grandfather's footsteps. >> he lived a sense of purpose and that ties back to what we will talk about is we have a choice to honor him. >> reporter: he was killed friday in afghanistan after just two months overseas. he returned in a flag draped casket. he graduated from san ramone last year and in his class picture is wearing sun glasses

and surrounded by friends. >> we had this sneaky way about him but this smile that made you laugh at whatever was happening. >> reporter: students this afternoon placed dozens of flags in the shape of a heart in front of the school. back here in danville another live look at the vigil that is set to get underway. they are gathering american flags, many have candles they are set to light. it'll spread throughout the next hour. there will be speeches, family and friends have gathered here and we are told the family is still making funeral arrangements but there are talks they were hoping friends said to have something planned at the high school to accommodate the large amount. peoplele who have been touched by had. the community has felt this loss. reporting live in danville. maureen naylor. > >> and right now watch the special report on the death of another bay area marine, he was

thanksgiving news for residents in a nursing home who have been guaranteed for a week after a nora virus outbreak. john fowler says a happy holiday may determine our well protocols work. >> reporter: last week nobody could visit any of the residents including pat. >> she is 91 and is probably wondering why nobody is coming. it's the holidays. you want to include them and you can't. >> reporter: can't because an outbreak of the virus has sickened about 60. >> -- the last 24 to 48 hours, most people feel miserable during that period that -- they recover. >> reporter: the virus is very contagious and can cause vomiting, sometimes dehydration and even death in the very young and very old. >> we are just really taking

theft but would not on the suit. >> tensions flairing at davis where hundreds voicing their outrage over the treatment of occupy protesters. john joins us now. a meeting between students and administrators is now underway. >> reporter: with in the past 45 minutes, we are in the town hall meeting. four days after this incident a peaceful protesters emotions are running high. the chancellor, police chief and other administrators are facing a student body still outraged by last friday's pepper spraying. >> it is our singular opportunity, after the horrible events on friday to show that the council can express frustration, can express our anger and do it in a civil way. >> reporter: earlier in the day the chancellor said she will not resign but the officer who ordered the spraying would be

punished. >> my position -- is horrible. what other position could i have? it was a horrible act. >> reporter: the administration is taking heat about the incident in which a dozen unarmed students were doused pepper spray. the student was sprayed but said he isn't looking for anyone to loose their job. >> if is -- change on this campus which can spread to other campuses it was worthwhile. >> reporter: for the students the reaction is nearly united. the police and the chancellor. >> it's not the first time it's happened. she has been incompetent for a long time and it's time for her to resign. >> reporter: the student senate voted last night to pass a resolution calling for the state attorney general to investigate the incident. she wants local authorities to dot investigations, one of which we learned tonight will be led by the former la police chief.

live in davis, ktvu channel 2news. >> now the president said today the university is taking steps to respond to the pepper spraying. the former police chief will conduct an independent review of that incident. a panel of students, and staff will review that investigation. two legal experts will review police protocol for protests on the campuses. >> less than half the tents left at the occupy camp. police this morning did a walk through and peacefully evicted the 26 campers without permit. no arrests were made. only 18 tents with permits remain. they will be allowed to stay until the end of the month. santa rosa is no longer issuing new permits. demonstrators are -- this one in west oakland. they moved in to this foreclosed lot with the blessing of the owner. that owner is telling us that is not true.

oakland police say the owner needs to make a formal complaint before the trespassers can be removed. >> a michigan man entered a no contest plea and a crime committed more than 40 years ago. the 67-year-old faces up to 15 years in prison for firing a gun at a south san francisco police officer following a police chough chase. they moved to an arbor. sentencing is now set for february. >> a man has received the go ahead to gather signatures for a ballot measure stemming the tragic death of his two children. robert pack 10-year-old son troy and 7-year-old daughter were killed in 2003 by a driver who was under the influence . the money would go to a state program that provides education. >> safety questions about the

construction of a bridge. revelation that an engineer made false statements. the new eastern span was not among them. the tech and sessions supervisorrer were both fired. >> this is the beginning of a process. multiple investigations going on, both the federal level and the state. >> caltrans said the pylings are safe and it has added new checks and balances. >> the california high speed rail authority today signed -- said it signed a new -- signed a deal for close to a billion dollars for construction of the first leg of the project. the government agreed to provide money toward the first 130-mile segment in the central valley. the authority said it has a total of 3.5 billion dollars in funding toward the six billion dollar cost for that one leg of the project, construction is

excessive force during an arrest in 2008. two station agents and former bart police chief took the witness stand today. g was questioned about the agency's policies toward riders who criticized police. >> authorities in san ma ateo said a man called the chrome resolver robber is in custody. is he suspected in -- in half a dozen cities. a fingerprint collected following a robbery helped led them to sanders. a warning from santa clara officials, be care of four tune telling scams. some take advantage of their customers. they are often at risk and pay thousands of dollars for a comfort, especially during the holidays. >> the competition is really heating up between bay area holidays. the extra perks there.

america. morning showers, i suspect like ten, 11:00 they will start it break apart. thursday afternoon for the most part should be dry. be a few clouds linger. here is the model. wednesday at two. that is tomorrow. you see this, this is that drizzle. that's no big deal. the front back here. this is wednesday at 7:00. not a lot going on. the suspect the model isn't picking up on the drizzle. coastal hills, great highway, skyline boulevard. just a lot of moisture. 60 miles wide. it's not that wide. here we are wednesday night. 11:00, showers in the north bay. there it is to the right. into thursday morning, watch what it does, fall as part. the storm system basically splitting in two. the energy being cut in half. it doesn't appear to be much of a big deal. the biggest concern will be people traveling tomorrow night and then again on thursday morning. the five-day coming up with the bay area weekend in view. some clouds out there.

the nfl has tied it in with thanksgiving and if it's a little bit of a message that talks about family that's what we try to have the program be about. it's a game and a good team. two team that play a similar style and they will want to win the game on thursday night. >> no question. could be one of the highest rated games in a long time. mean thyme time the last of the huge hardware given out today. the national league mvp award. kind of a tight vote. it is ryan braun who led milwaukee's brewers to the first division tight until like 30 years and boy -- stats there, 3:32 batting average rage. 33 home runs. it was a close -- matt kemp of the dodgers, the center fielder also won a gold love. prince fielder also with the brewers finished third. that's the sporting line up. we will see you again at ten. >> can't just sign that
