good morning. a new camp site in the works for occupy san francisco. the compromise city officials want to offer the protestors. we are live in san pablo where neighbors are taking on the city in a wake of a mud slide. and we will show you how they are starting to turn on each other. if you are flying out of sfo this morning i want to give you a look at the situation. things are looking pretty good. the crowds are beginning to pick up. i talked to mike who said he's

much doable coming out to the mccarthur maze. if you are driving over to the bay bridge it's light. interstate 880 here in front of the coliseum still looks good. let's go back to the desk. topping our news this mornings occupy sf camp may be moving to a new location just in time for the holidays. this morning an estimated 400 protestors remain camped out. many nearby store and restaurant owners are getting frustrated as the holiday season gets under way. they say the tent city is going to kill business if the city does not take immediate action. so now mayor ed lee is reportedly talking with occupy protestors about moving their camp to an old high school campus. it's on mission street between 15th and 16th. many occupiers say they have no plans to leave. the controversial pepper spraying understand accident at uc davis could lead to changes

for the entire uc system. uc president mark youdoff says his office is taking a close look at the incident last friday. he is launching a system wide investigation into the way uc police respond to demonstrations at all ten uc campuses. former los angeles police chief will lead the investigation. meantime the chancellor of uc davis met with angry students at a crowded town hall meeting last night. she said she's appalled by the actions of the uc davis police officers and she reached out to the students directly involved in the controversy. >> i am requesting that all charges against the students that have been arrested be dropped. that any medical expenses incurred by any students involved would be funded. >> many students and faculty members were unmoved by her comments. they repeated their call for

her resignation. we have continuing coverage of occupy protests. you can find updates any time online at ktvu.com and mobile ktvu. 6:03. that landslide that damaged several homes in san pablo back in march it's the focus of a lawsuit. ktvu tara moriarty is there now. she has more on why that lawsuit isn't the only problem the residence are dealing with. tara. >> reporter: the equipment is out. some of the debris has been cleared. if you look up the hillside here, you can see how precarious the situation is. more work is expected to be done clearing trees. trying to make this place safer. a mud slide back in march nearly toppled seven homes. late last month three homeowners that live off of hill crest road sued the city for improper drainage over the years. they are also suing their

neighbors who's houses are on top of the slide. those homeowners did not take care of the drainage system the way they should have. neighbors on both streets put up a united front. the city says since the slide happened on public property, it will repair the surrounding private property but it needs state funds and the governor to sign a state of emergency. later this morning we will try to talk to homeowners and get some reaction from them. live in san pablo i'm tara moriarty. time now 6:05. former bart police officer johannes mehserle is due back in a courtroom at 8:30 this morning. the jury will listen to full testimony today. the officers punched and kicked him while being arrested at an oakland bart station but bart is claiming the officers only used the force that is necessary to make the arrest.

now this incident happened six weeks before the fatal shooting of oscar grant. bad weather is effecting the travel plans of many people heading to the airport. claudine wong is at sfo this morning. what are they telling you? >> reporter: pam, things are look good right now. i want to show you this board. this is what we are paying attention to. everything is leaving on time opinion we only see one flight to dallas that is delayed. mike mckaren is the airport spokesperson. certainly people hate to be delayed especially on a holiday but things look good. >> things are going very well. everything is on time or nearly on time. >> reporter: how many people are traveling today? >> busiest part of the day will be midday. about 135,000 people which is 4% more than we had last year. >> that is good. people are getting back to the skies. >> reporter: we've had steady increase over the past couple

tomorrow morning. now this system will weaken as it comes in. it will give us some rain. heaviest rain to the north. by tomorrow afternoon i think the system is pretty much gone. this is the forecast model projection. i tend to agree with it mostly. mostly. not always. by 6:00 tonight just beginning to move into mendocino county. it will take awhile to get here. by tonight starting to rain a little bit. more so in the north bay. there it is tomorrow night. by 9:00, 10:00 it looks like most of it will be done. there could be a little weak system brushing the north coast. maybe on friday. overall after thursday things look quiet. system continues to inch closer. it has a long ways to go. the wind has picked up though. there are gusts over 35 and 40. even 30 at tahoe. it's 48 in tahoe. snow will not be a factor if you are heading up to the sierra. our system will line itself north to south.

newsroom this morning. >> reporter: dave the eight republican candidates sparred over everything from the controversial patriot act which made it easier for authorities to tap phones to the pace of the troop draw down in afghanistan. santorum broke out from the pack saying muslims should be targeted for additional screenings at airports. >> those are the folks that are the radial muslims that are committing these crimes by in large such as younger males. these are things not exclusively but these are things you profile to find your most likely candidate. >> reporter: ron paul challenge santorum where profiling helped catch anyone? the biggest one game from newt gingrich said he does not believe millions of illegal americans that have been -- illegal aliens that have been here for years should be

deported. live in washington carol han. the rescue boat captain that helped pull natalee wood's body from the water 30 years ago said she could have been saved. she was reported missing at 5:11:00 a.m.. that was four hours after she was discovered missing from a yacht off catalina island by her husband. the captain says he believes she was probably alive for hours in the water before being carried out to sea. an investigation into her death was reopened last week. 6:15. last night in danville hundreds paid attribute for a falling young marine. ♪ i once was lost but now i'm found ♪ >> that's the voice of a friend of lance corporal joshua corral

singing amazing grace. corral's cousin says dealing with his loss is even harder because it's the holidays. >> it hits our family so hard. he's a huge inspiration. huge aspect of all of our lives. just wanted to see everyone smile. that was his main goal. >> his family now finalizing plans for a memorial. police in santa rosa say a man in custody may be responsible for holding up three banks in the past six weeks. the surveillance photo is from napa crime stoppers. police arrested him last week and charged him with robbing a bank in santa rosa. investigators now say they have evidence he's responsible for two other recent deaths at area. bay area residence have a new tool to fight blight in some communities. whether it's a report of an

abandoned truck or fresh graffiti the see click fix smart phone app is changing how code enforcement officers receive tips. san francisco, oakland are all using the app. >> so they can do it fast and it's easy. it's always about easy. >> the tips end up on a public website that displays the photo, locations, comment, and city progress. oakland plans to expand the program next year. they see more than 40% of the issues are ultimately resolved. warmer temperatures is leaving a rotten taste in california fruit crops. over the past century the state's winter loads have increased by two degrees. agricultural experts say it has

not disrupt crops. if this continues, fruit growers will need to move north in search of cooler temperatures. 6:17. northern california's crab season is still in crisis this morning this thanksgiving season. crab boats are staying in port. fishermen and suppliers are negotiating price. even if a deal was reached quickly, it's not likely crabs could get to the market in time for thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. it was a short lived celebration for a fisherman this massachusetts that made a gigantic catch. look at this. carlos rafael's net caught an 881-pound blue fin tuna. the rule says the blue fin can only be caught with a rod or reel. federal agents moved in and seized that giant tuna. it will be sold overseas now.

mr. rafael isn't expected to get any of it. >> that is not fair. >> that is a lot of money. 754 tuna sold for more almost $400,000. >> as my kids would say that is not fair. >> i don't know what to tell you. 6:18 is the time. back to sal for traffic. >> good morning. traffic is moving along relatively well. i know you are a little concerned on this big travel day for what the areas look like. we're off to a nice start. it looks like there is a little bit of a small delay as you come pay the money. again it's not major. also this mornings commute looks good on northbound 101 approaching the 80 split. this traffic looks good in san francisco. not only coming downtown but heading south to the airport. if you are driving in contra costa county highway 4 is slow but it's good. and marin county is quiet.

southbound 101 from nevada to central san rafael still looks very nice. let's go to steve. >> sal, thank you, sir. we do have mostly cloudy skies. it will be a day when you get increasing clouds. now we will get a break here in the morning. by this evening clouds will be rolling in. it looks like rain overnight into tomorrow morning. this system is a slow mover. now we will produce pretty good rain say fort bragg north it isn't even there yet. temperatures though they will be in the 50s and 60s today. this is not a big issue for the sierra. there is wind gusts to 30 at tahoe. they sitting at 48 degrees. 50 santa rosa. 39 fairfield with a quarter mile visibility of fog. so watch out if you are traveling five or out to the valley 99. our system again will inch closer toward us. it will be here late tonight into tomorrow morning.

rain northward. we have a ways to go. increasing clouds. 60s for almost anybody. low to mid. i did go 59, 58 up toward san rafael, napa and santa rosa. too much cloud cover. rain moves in tomorrow. it's gone by thursday night. friday should be clearing out and weekend dry, warmer. fog will be an issue. at & t faces new hurdles as it tries to buy t-mobile. the chairman is recommending the $39 billion deal be sent to a judge. he says the deal could lead to higher prices and less competition. the hearing would take place after an antitrust challenge is resolved early next year. consumers barely increase their spending last month. commerce department released that. personal income increased by four tenths of a percent. analysts say that extra money could help boost spending during the holiday shopping season. time now 6:21. one of your favorite topics.

good morning. traffic is moving along okay here. there is a little bit of a backup. now we are getting word of a new crash right at san francisco airport. effecting both directions of highway 101. a car flipped over. we just got that word just now. we'll let you know more about this straight ahead. that could mean big problems for you if you are trying to catch a flight at san francisco airport. stay with us. school bus crash in maryland sent 20 people to the hospital overnight. the bus wrecked last night after a truck failed to yield while turning left at an intersection. the students were on their way back home from a basketball game. police say the driver of the truck was intoxicated and has been charged with dui. california highway patrol is gearing up for the worst

nights of excessive drinking. mothers against drunk driving say tonight is when people begin celebrating the holidays. this is when college students are returning home and some parents become relaxed about under age drinking. time now 6:25. ktvu news took a close look at rising bank fees to see which bay area banks have the best deals. we compared what ten banks are charging for monthly fees. debt card charges, fees for using another bank's debt card, wire transfer charges and cashiers checks. we found the highest charges were from citi bank and bank of america. the lowest fees were at bank of the west. a lot of the bankers know customers are fed up. frankly, i get a little frustrated and feel like protesting myself. our business is simple we take local deposits and put them in

heading to the airport on this holiday get away day. claudine wong is at sfo this morning. claudine. >> reporter: we are in terminal two. the brand new terminal here. i want to show you a few things. first i want to take you outside so you can see overhead. things moving pretty smoothly as you are dropping people off. if we pan over we can show you the virgin america check out counter that looks pretty good. it was busy in the last half hour. coming down the escalator now. things are looking good. we talked to the airplane port spokesperson he said he checked in with the flights we are watching the weather back east. things are looking good right now. keep in mind things do get busier as the day goes on. but as it stands if you are heading out of sfo we looked at

the boards and watched things pretty carefully things are moving right along here. take a look at the security lines behind us right here. you can see people waking their way through here. we are told that line is less than ten minutes. if you are headed here keep in mind the same rules apply. keep in mind things will change quickly if the weather changes back east. that always makes things domino effect in terms of how you get your flights in and out of here. things are looking good here at sfo. live here at sfo claudine wong. time now 6:32. let's quickly go to sal. something is happening outside the airport right now. what do you know? >> southbound 101 at the airport exit there is a flipped over car right here at the airport exit. a car was driving northbound, flipped over and ended up on the southbound lanes. and injuries blocking three lanes now. so this is probably the worst day for a crash here right in front of the airport.

if you are trying to get to the airport, give yourself extra time on 101 and 380. southbound 101 just between sfo and mill berry avenue. san francisco airport carries two-thirds of the bay area's air traffic. two-thirds of it. this is obviously the busiest airport in the region. leave the house early. 6:30 let's go back to the desk. thank you. the occupy sf camp well it may be moving to a new location just in time for the holidays. an estimated 400 protestors are still camped at justin herman plaza. business owners are frustrated now as the holiday season gets under way. they say the tent city will hurt everyone kill their business unless the city takes immediate action. now we are hearing san

francisco you're ed lee reportedly is talking with the occupy protestors about moving their camp to an old high school campus. it's on mission street between 15th and 16th. many are saying no, they have no plans to move. overnight police booted occupy oakland protestors out of their new camp. police officers were watching as among 200 protestors pack up their tents and leave this place. many of them left voluntarily after getting word the owner wanted them at. at least 50 occupy protestors came back. many occupy protestors are making their plans for black friday. they plan to demonstrate against the big stores.

that includes -- they have created a special facebook page to help organize their black friday demonstration. we have continuing coverage of the occupy protest right here on ktvu channel 2 and you can find updates any time online at ktvu.com. time is 6:34. that landslide back in march in san pablo the one that damaged several homes is now led to a lawsuit. ktvu channel 2 reporter tara moriarty has a lot more on this lawsuit and how residence are suing each other. tara. >> reporter: initially the lawsuit was supposed to be against the city, now it's taking a turn where neighbors are being pitted against neighbors. it's all because of this mess. remanence of a mud slide and it literally has people on edge. especially with rain in the federal government. late last month three homers filed a lawsuit against the city. seven homes total were yellow

tagged as a result of the mud slide. they are also suing their neighbors who's houses are at the top of the slide. they say those homeowners did not care for the drainage system the way they should have. it's not uncommon for neighbors to sue neighbors regarding mud slides. officially neighbors on both streets put up a fight against the city. they felt the city should have informed them and if it had they would have never bought their homes. the city says since the slide happened on public property it will repair the surrounding private property but it needs state funds to do so. and if we come back here live, you can see just 4:extense -- just how extensive this damage was. a lot of the homes are sitting with the backyards completely shorn off. right here you can tell where there is drainage that has been put in here with sandbags on top of it. this looks pretty new.

we do expect to see construction crews here this week. the city of berkeley is trying to speed up the rebuilding process for two downtown businesses destroyed by last week's fire. raleighs bar and grill and cafe were on the bottom floor of an apartment area. they can range anywhere from $800 to tens of thousands of dollars for repairs. we are watch egypt. violent clashes are now in its fifth day. incredible pictures. earlier today police took cover in groups behind shields. as protestors threw rocks and chunks of concrete at them. they want egypt's ruling council to step aside

immediately and not wait to hold elections. at least 38 people have been killed. back here at home pennsylvania authorities investigating new allegations against jerry sandusky of penn state. coming up at 6:45, why sandusky's lawyer is worried his client could end up behind bars before getting his day in court. all right sal is covering a problem just outside sfo. certainly a lot of people heading in that direction. >> yeah. this is obviously not a good way to start the morning commute. there san overturn bruno at -- there is an overturned car. there is reports northbound 101 this car was driving on northbound 101 lost control of the car and flipped over into the southbound lanes and pretty serious injury crash now. southbound 101 right between the sf airport exit and mil brace. you need to give yourself extra time. this is likely to effect traffic in both directions getting to the airport. if you are driving on highway

380 this also might effect you as well. there are no major problems by the way if you are driving on 380. if you don't have to go to the airport you might want to consider using 280 down the peninsula instead. if you are trying to get into san francisco l is a small -- into san francisco, there is a small delay. it's not quite the delay we usually see. there is some waiting going on at the toll plaza. contra costa county that traffic is moderately heavy with slowing in antioch. let's go to steve. thank you kindly. we do have mostly cloudy skies. fog out in the valley. reduced visibility at travis and vacaville. the wind has picked up along the coast. the rain is not a factor yet. it won't be until tonight. it's lining itself parallel to the coast. it will get here later than sooner. this is a cloud and rain

forecast. timing on this suspect. it will give you an idea today they are okay. by tonight some rain is beginning to move in along the coast. also mendocino. maybe sonoma coast as well. overnight tonight into tomorrow it looks like our best opportunity. i think it's a little fast. it will be coming in later instead of sooner. by tomorrow most of this is gone. tomorrow afternoon. the rain is not made it to shelter cove. dallas jenn sen said no rain. the wind is picking up and same for steve dunlap. if you are heading over that direction, wind first and then rain. same can be said for the sierra. the wind has picked up i think i saw 30 something at tahoe. but 48 degrees. 40s and 50s. look at santa rosa 51 degrees. 50 mountain view. the system with a south wind. our wind is not much yet. it will pick up later as the system inches closer.

crash. there are signs of progress in the stadium proposal between san jose, the oakland a's and major league baseball. ktvu channel 2 reporter kraig debro is in san jose this morning with why it is a far from a done deal. >> reporter: we also need signs of progress from the san francisco giants. they are holding a lot of cards in this story. this originates from fox sports. i've called major league baseball. there is one big problem because the giants already play in san jose. this is the san jose giants stadium. everything is out there right now. from everything i have been able to gather this is far from being a done deal. the story says baseball commissioner bud seeley met with a's executives to talk about a ballpark couple weeks ago. at the meeting commissioner asked the a's to increase

san francisco airport. i am afraid if you left your flight until the last minute, you might end up missing it. this freeway here this crash on 101 is really slowing traffic down getting to sfo. the crash was first reported northbound and then it was southbound. so that is san francisco airport on the right there. you can see northbound 101 traffic is really busy trying to get up to the scene. and then southbound 101 is also slow. the crash really happened in both directions. what happened was a car driving northbound ended up flipping over the center median on to the other side of the freeway. this is like a crash in both directions. you can see police are up there. chp is out there blocking the north lane northbound and the three left lanes. this is an area where people sometimes drive fast. i have seen it happen with this

kind of a weird merge there. and then that is right where it happened. just north of the san francisco airport exit. give yourself plenty of time get together airport. right now i can't recommend an alternate route because this is just at the airport exit. if you use 280, you still have to get on 380 to get to the airport. and you have to use the freeway to get to the airport unless you go on the frontage road and those are not very wide. you have to decide if you are super secret insider you have to get to the frontage road. let's go to other things now. this is a look at highway 4 westbound. some of the fog lifting there. highway 4 looks pretty good. somebody just tuned in. southbound at sfo. >> it's effecting the crash is southbound but it's effecting both directions. >> i believe it. we do have increasing clouds.
