busiest shopping days of the year. we're monitoring the occupy movement. log on to ktvu. ktvu.com. a man was shot today. the police officer was not hurt. they have not released the maim of the man yet who died or any other details about what specifically happened. and santa rosa police have now taken over the investigation. officials from the sonoma county district's attorneys office were also on the scene today. in newarck a man tried to come to the rescue after a home caught on fire. one person that lived at the home needed treatment for something unrelated to the fire. a neighbor who tried to fight the fire with a guarden hose sufferedded minor smoke inhalation. >> i wanted to stop it with the

water, trying to protect my property. and some police come here and tried to push me out. he said, you get out of here. it's dangerous. i said okay but i want to turn it off my water, nobody let me do it. >> reporter: he said fire crews pushed him away from if yard for his own protection. it's believed the fire began in the bedroom but firefighters are still looking into the cause. let's go ahead and turn to our bay area weather. things worked out the way you said they would. >> only an inch of rain as you move north of santa rosa. there's goes the front as you move through the area. some showers there to the north of us. but we're going to be dry. the story the next few hours is going to be the valley fog that's going to try to reform. basically low clouds are out there right now you can see out toward the concord, napa area. we don't have showers but we have pockets of low lying clouds and low clouds showing up in the north bay valley. as you head outside, what you're going to see out there

planning. >> reporter: all of amtrak's arrivals and departures are scheduled on time today. >> reporter: traveling over the bay bridge into san francisco was smooth early this afternoon. the california highway patrol reports clear roadways at this hour. we're live at sfo tonight. we also checked in with oakland international airport. they had no delays whatsoever to report on this thanksgiving. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. from california skiers are spending their thanksgiving at sierra ski bowl. sugar bowl is just one of the resorts opening up over the long weekend for the season. up like last year, there's only one lift operating and one run available there at sugar bowl. the resort says that last year was an exceptional year and for most years just being able to open for thanksgiving is gravy. officers will be out in full force through this sunday looking for people driving

under the influence. this time last year officers made more than 1,500dui arrests throughout the state. that is nearly 6% more than the year before. this year officers will also be checking to make sure drivers and passengers are buckling up. if you plan to take b.a.r.t., beware that there have been schedule changes. b.a.r.t. is operating on a sunday schedule today. fewer trains will be running across the entire b.a.r.t. system. starting tomorrow. b.a.r.t. will run longer trains beginning at 6:00 a.m. to accommodate an influx of shoppers. black friday is so yesterday for some die-hard shoppers. now instead of waiting for tomorrow morning to hit the sales. david stevenson to tell you how the stores are bringing in the shoppers before the meal has gone cold. >> this year more retailers are saying shoppers don't have to

wait overnight in the cold to spend their cash. these san francisco shoppers cranked up a portable generator and huddled under a tent outside this best buy store. they hope to catch the games while waiting to buy a bigger tv at midnight. >> the deal for the tv is $200 for 42-inches. >> reporter: a line of 200 people camped out waiting for the black friday sale. >> there'll be food at home waiting for me, so i wouldn't really miss it much. >> reporter: the retail federation reports 200 million americans will shop black friday weekend up from 198 million last year. this year, more of the nation's retailers are giving consumers a head start opting to open thanksgiving morning or before midnight to lure in a growing number of shoppers hungry for bargains instead of turkey.

floats and performers. but the stars of the parade as always were the 50 giant balloon sculptures bobbing high overhead. this year's favorite include, spider man, the smurfs and kung fu panda. a crowd of spectators eight people deep in some parts enjoyed the parade with its balloon characters, dancers and floats. there was a little snag today, when the garfield balloon got too full and popped. in charlotte south carolina they enjoyed thanksgiving with a parade. marching bands even live animals. and just like the macy's parade. this one ended with the arrival of santa claus. thanksgiving is a day for

parades, families and eating. but many strapped on their running shoes and took on another tradition, the turkey trot. the word of the day may be gobble, but in walnut creek some people ran off their meal first. samantha took the name to heart and ran in a turkey costume. thousands of runners turned out in san jose for the silican valley turkey trot. it featured a wheelchair race, a kid race and turkey run. organizers hope to raise half a million dollars for three santa clara charities. the second housing food want. 20,000 people registered for today's run. it's the largest crowd ever for

year parade died when their -- three children and two adults died. immediate family members have been told of their relative's death. >> all of these families are heartbroken, traumatized over the loss of their loved ones so suddenly and on thanksgiving. we just feel terrible and we wanted to express that to the families. >> the pilot of the plane had just picked up his children from their mother and was taken them to his home for thanksgiving. people in bay point may have to pay more for their water. the golden state water utility wants to increase rates from 2014 to 2015. the proposal would raise residential rates more than 12% or about $10 a month. industrial rates 14%, and public authority rates would go up 11%. residents will have a chance to

voice their concern to the public utilities commission. the carson city board of supervisors this week allocated $3.5 million for the project. the funds come from a voter approved state bond measure. but the project still has a ways to go. since the total cost is estimated as more than $80 million. 68miles out of the 116 miles have already been built and are open to the public. we did get wet wetter overnight. >> there might be a few sprinkles but the rain will be over overnight. outside right now you see the clouds outside out there. a lot of cloud and lingering out here. those clouds will begin to clear out as they do we're going to look for the fog to start to move back in. we're going to clear that out and we're going to go to the live radar sweeps going on

right now. some areas perhaps some light green, certainly by sacramento. but as you travel around really i think the rain is over. and what you're going to be watching or what we're going to be worried about for you as you travel is late night, early morning fog. temperatures outside. these are the current temperatures, 53 in santa rosa. 54 in napa. current dewpoint, for you what you need to know about the dewpoint it tells you how cool -- when the air cools to the point the fog will form. so the temperature is 53. the dewpoint temperature is 51 degrees. when that temperature comes down to degrees you're going to have fog formation. when fairfield comes down 3 degrees you're going to have fog formation. it's a big deal in that a lot of folks will drying out tonight and tomorrow morning. be careful, it's going to be out there and it will be dense. in the north and east bay valley, valley fog an issue. wouldn't be hard to get a dense

sheriff's office says the suspect was arrested this morning and is being held on $1 million bail. authorities say the suspect and straton knew each other. there's new information tonight on the shooting death of the president of the hell's angel. petigrew was shot down inside a casino in nevada. the associated press is reporting that a witness told the grand jury that the murder was not an assassination plot. he says leaders from the hell's angels and vagos bikers had worked out a truce at the casino, but that one vagos member could not keep his mouth shut and provoked the fight. it was another vagos member that is suspected of pulling the trigger. also ahead, officials make a decision on three american students detained in egypt.

soldiers. experts say today's bombing is a sign of the security challenges iraq will face after troops return home. three american students jailed in egypt, an egyptian court has ordered the release of the three. the three are students at the american university in cairo. they were arrested sunday for allegedly throwing fire bombs at security forces fighting with protesters. there's no word yet if the students have been set free. three earthquakes hit japan but neither triggered a tsunami. the earthquakes today measured 6.0 and 6.1. there have been no reports of damage or injuries. harry potter author said journalists have invaded their

tense moments for passengers after their plane had to make an emergency landing. it happened at l.a.x. just before 10:00 last night. the american airlines jet had just left for new york city when crews smelled smoke in the cabin. none of the 164 people on board was injured. two bay area airports are on a new list of the nation's worse airports when it comes to delays. the daily mirror ranked sfo as the sixth worse airport with a 15 minute flight delay. oakland came in ninth. chicago o'hare came in first. the president called two

crash involving a truck that ran into a building. it happened just after 5:00 p.m. in the corner of fairfax and fair bank. both drivers on the scene claimed they had the right of way. the building is empty. neither driver was injured. a bay area analyst is keeping a close eye on e sales this thanksgiving. so far he says the numbers are up. >> reporter: what we're seeing now is that consumers are coming online earlier in the day. retailers are showing their promotions and discounts earlier. and that's really driving consumers to buy and shop at 20% higher than it was last year. >> reporter: looks like he was a michigan wolverine fan. >> websites like twitter and facebook help shoppers share deals with their friends. people who shop at lucky grocery stores are being advised to check their bank statement. someone tampered with credit readers. the compromised card readers

were in self-check out lanes and have been replaced. so far there's no reports of problems with customer accounts. 19 lucky stores are affected in the bay area plus one save mart store. let's talk about our weather now. because it's a holiday weekend and we're right in the middle of it. >> mostly the showers have ended. we could see a slight sprinkle. then it's done. then we get the cloud cover, the fog that will come back. both live radars going on right now, the one live in davis, the doppler radar there. and then the doppler radar in the mountains. they're picking up a little bit of shower activity but it's light. you saw it early this morning in your neighborhood. just really light misty drizzle action. that's going to taper off over the next few hours. and as we go into tonight, it's a long night and the cool conditions, valley fog will be a player. you saw the clock work this time of year, a little bit of

rain goes through. then you get a long night. tomorrow morning, that fog is really going to start to proliferate. just be prepared for it. it's a bigger deal now than usual. because everybody is driving around. and you also have people, i didn't think about this. you have lots of people in this area visiting people and driving home at 12:00 tonight. they're not aware that the fog is going to be in those areas. you locals know what you're talking about. if you're out there, just know tomorrow morning, valley fog could be an issue. tomorrow in the next few days we're dry. there's no real rain in the forecast. maybe a little bit of drizzle in the north bay. but no substantial rain or weather headed our way. so cloudy conditions as you head into your friday afternoon. the computer model shows up tomorrow morning, a few clouds i mentioned a little bit of drizzle there. then a great friday afternoon, friday evening. here we are into friday morning. here we are into saturday afternoon. not bad. they know sunday a few more

drowsiness. you likely feel sleepy from a carb overload from all the mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie. a soldier was reunited with a stray dog he adopted while on duty in afghanistan. warren alberdine and clovis had a reunion today. alstine was born in sacramento. now she is fostering more than one dozen dogs brought home with chloe. >> our servicemen personnel developed these dogs because the taliban kills them. >> reporter: the dog can be of great comfort to american servicemen and women while in
