didn't get in until 11:00. had to split any ride share so it was a mess. >> there are quite a few delays after the thanksgiving holiday but as you can see on the board right here, for the most part they are about half an hour to an hour late. at oakland international, it's nothing but smooth traveling. almost every flight is on time. a happy homecoming surprise for this dad and his little girl. >> i do it every year and every year it's horrible. this year it was a piece of cake. security lines were small, yeah, really easy. >> now, i just checked sfo's website. you can do that from or own computer, it gives you up to minute details. it shows most flights are on time, in fact some are actually ahead of schedule. some good news there.

most holiday travelers are getting back home by car. i want to give you a live look at interstate 80. lots of traffic heading in both directions. triple a estimates 45.2 million people took to the roads. in fact 4.5 million were right here in california alone. scores of people are heading back to the bay area from the sierra. this is what it looked like about an hour ago. traffic was light as you can see and the weather appeared to be cooperating. with the travel season now in full gear, so is the concern of spreading germs. coming up, a company hopes keeping people healthy translates into big business. to check on flight traffic, be sure to check out our website. crews in rural salon a county are cleaning up tonight

after a big rig crashed into a creek. it happened around 10:00 this morning around hey road and her i meridian road. the driver lost vision in the dense fog. the driver was not injured and no one else was involved. meteorologist joins us with when that fog may return to the bay area. >> we do have some more fog in the forecast. this was the satellite earlier this morning. we had a few high clouds but that central valley fog seeping into parts of the bay area, especially for the north bay, the east bay valley and into the bay itself. the clouds have been pushing back into the region. as far as tonight into tomorrow morning, the fog regroups, especially toward the delta region and also for the inland valleys. visibility could be coming down a quarter of a mile as we head

traditional department stores are also seeing some good news in these numbers coming out because department stores online, their online sales jumped by 60% compared to last year. avoiding the hectic shopping experience. >> i did half of it online and half of it in the stores because i like the ambience of being out with the people. >> reporter: online sales are surging up more than 24% over last year according to john squire. >> the spending started on thanksgiving so thanksgiving was up 39.3%. >> he says shopping on mobile devices such as i-phones and i- pads made up 10% of those sales. >> if i were to purchase something i probably would use any i-phone. >> it is expected that cyber

monday will top last year's 1 billion-dollar mark. >> this year our expectation will be 20% at least bigger than black friday. >> but despite a huge surge in online shopping going to the store and walking out with a bag in hand is still by far how people spend their holiday cash. >> i like going into the stores and being able to touch and feel stuff. that's just me. >> reporter: the stores are still king. online purchases make up 5 to 10%, but it is growing every year. in san francisco, channel 5 news. los angeles police are interviewing witnesses and victims of the pepper spraying incident at a wal-mart. about 20 people were hurt when a woman sprayed the crowd near an x box display. she turned herself in that night and was later released. her name is not available.

police wanted an interview before deciding whether to press charges against her. they don't know if she was spraying to. the board of of regular events is -- regents is scheduled to meet tomorrow. the board will meet at uc san francisco, ucla and uc davis. the meetings will be linked through teleconferencing. the regents are said to decide whether to ask for an increase in funding to help hire more instructors. occupy protesters are vowing to be at all four locations but the biggest is expected to be at uc davis. organizers say they want to disrupt that meeting. uc davis has become the focal point of the movement since an

officer doused the crowds with pepper spray. time is running out for occupy la protesters camped out. demonstrateors have until midnight tonight before police say they will move in. police chief charlie beck said he knows officers will have to make arrests and possibly use force. >> after 12:01 we have the ability to enforce the law. >> then we will move to another location. >> reporter: says it's time to shut down the camp because of public health and safety. there have also been reports that many of the campers are homeless. had their hands full with at least 2 bar fights. the first fight broke out at vice lounge. police say as many as 30 people were involved. one was arrested on assault charges. one say he suffered lacerations when his arm went through a

glass. in front of 15 and 15 restaurant. police say he was hit with a glass inside the bar. dozens of people are without a permanent home after a 3 alarm fire tore through an apartment complex last night, the village green apartments. 60 people were forced to evacuate. about 20 of them checked into a temporary shelter at nearby homestead high school. fire officials say the fire was likely caused by a kitchen unit. this week's dui crack down, so far officers made 227 arrests in the bay area during the maximum enforcement period. that number is down from last year's total of 249 arrests. however the number of traffic deaths in the bay area is up. this year 2 people have died compared to no deaths last

a berkeley apartment building heavily damaged by a 5 alarm fire earlier this month is set to be torn down tomorrow. officials say the 96-year-old structure is now in danger of collapsing. many of them used by uc berkeley students. it also housed restaurants.

the family and coworkers of a bay area firefighter are asking for the public's help to find a man accused of intentionally running the firefighter down. police say 29-year-old got in a fight with another man at 11th avenue. bart will walked to a gas station and that's where the suspect deliberately ran over him. he is a firefighter at cal fire and a former marine, an iraq war veteran, he's now in critical condition. >> we hope he makes a full recovery. at this time like i said, he's in critical condition in the icu. he's had a pretty traumatic brain injury. >> reporter: police are looking for the man in his picture. they believe he is the man who ran bartel over. also have this description of

the suspect's vehicle. 12 spoke rims and possible front end damage. anyone with information is asked to contact san francisco police. the highway patrol is investigating the death of a man hit by a car on interstate 80 last night. vetors say the man was struck about 10:45. said moments before that accident an officer pulled the man over during a traffic stop on a nearby frontage road. investigators say he quickly ditched the car and walked across the lanes before getting hit on the eastbound lane. >> the driver was weaving. it could be a sign of impairment, it could be a sign of disorientation. it could be a sleepy driver. it could be any of those combinations. >> the man's identity has not been released but he is in his mid-30s. a marshal artist has died, al novak, was considered a

remorse for jackson's death and has placed blame for others. the prosecutors plan to ask to put murray on probation. the convicted assassin of robert f kennedy, jr. is asking to be released from prison. authorities say there is formidable evidence of his innocence. new evidence shows 2 guns were fired and that sir han's revolver was not the one that shot kennedy. the younger brother of john f kennedy was shot right after he won the california primary for president. the office for the attorney general refuse to do comment. a report on the american cup yacht race is scheduled for this week. the race is scheduled to take place in san francisco in 2013. the final report will be published on thursday. race organizers are said to be

puzzled by a new algae. the algae is killing wildlife and increasing the risk of human sickness. the toxins can accumulate in shell fish and other sea life. they say they are getting bigger. scientists are trying to determine what if any environmental changes have caused the toxic algae. time to see what's on tap for the workweek and the weather. >> reporter: over the next few days it will be dry. but gusty winds midweek. high clouds moving into parts of the bay area, but a few high clouds up toward crescent city, closing in on eureka but the bay area has partly cloudy skies. some of the current numbers most areas are in the mid-50s at this hour. this was the scene today, you can see some of the high clouds moving in. kind of filtered sunshine but

still a fairly nice weekend if you are away from the spots. out toward fair field at least for the morning hours. here's a satellite. you will see a big cluster of high clouds moving in. death valley fog, once again high pressure remains in place and as a result visibility is coming down. but the high also keeping us dry, so with that skies becoming partly sunny. temperatures ranging from the low 60s all the way to the lower 70s and not too much change as we head into tuesday. but this is the developing headline as you can see as we come in tighter and strong winds coming out of the northeast, off shore winds. this is set for wednesday and thursday. strong ears winds will be up above 1000 feet. we could have gusts at least for the hills topping 50 miles per hour. there is a chance we could have a high wind warning and with
