started winding down out here a couple minutes ago. students are taking a break in their tents in the quadbefore a discussion about whether they should have police force at all. earlier today we were in the middle of the loudest protest. >> reporter: a peaceful take over at university of california at davis today as students chanted. this building is home to the finance aid office, a police student spent more time at because of tuition hikes. so today they are striking. skipping classes all day. >> tired of doing nothing. tired of all this. >> reporter: at one point a professor lectured in the staircase. and she blocked an elevator with her own body. she said she had to do

something after she saw the video of the student being pepper spray. >> not appropriate if they are not hurting anybody. >> reporter: this morning students took over the university of california board of regents meeting. tuition hikes weren't on the agenda but students changed that. he says he feels for the protesters but he hopes to stop the hikes by working within the system. >> we need to find more revenue, find ways to put more revenue on the ballot that california will support for higher education. >> reporter: although the protests were loud and very big, there was very peaceful gathering out here. reporting live, ktvu channel 2 news. a special meeting took lice at university of california at berkeley over police tactics

earlier this month. they met to discuss what happened on november 9 when officers used batons on demonstrators to break up the occupy encampus. the crowd was there to see if faculty would pass police reaction. the faculty also considered a no confidence vote on the chancellor but stopped short of the vote. >> i am disturbed this happened. i apologize and as chancellor take full responsibility. >> the senate passed the resolutions but didn't send them to a full vote. university of california at berkeley police put out a letter defending officers and criticizing officials saying they were asked to enforce policy but officials refused to stand by them. "occupy oakland" is returning to frank ogawa plaza.

they will try to return tomorrow and stay there around the clock. the city removed tents twice and says it will not permit camping to return. protesters took over city property on 19ing and telegraph two weekends ago but were removed.. protesters took over a uc regents today. they were set to discuss next year's budget dut students interrupted and then started their meeting. the regents walked out. protesters say they are upset with the crack downs on occupy camps and protests. scott olsen who was injured in a "occupy oakland" police raid talked about what happened. >> we were attacked and i was victimized. i was attacked and i ended up

way the family wanted to welcome home their son but danville showed the family they weren't the only ones who suffered a loss. a -- he began his final trip back home this afternoon. paying respects came in all forms. from overpasses to nearly every town along 680 to the american flag held up by two fire trucks. >> took my breath away. >> she brought her son to support her community, the military she believes in and the family that lost a son. >> everybody came out. amazing. >> reporter: some gave all. >> shows how much it means to us. how thankful we are. >> reporter: two years ago he walked this campus as a senior.

franklin on may 25. in court today prosecutors say he coldly executed franklin while he was riding his bike. he was a senior and good student student. police in gilroy are investigating a murder-suicide involving a san jose police officer. police chargent and his wife were found dead last night in their home. family and friends haven't heard from them and asked police to check on the couple. >> once we got into the home we found a female who had been murdered, deceased and we found a murder who died. >> police say the couple's two children were not home at the time. >> santa clara county is giving those with warrants a 2nd chance. it starts thursday, it allows you to get a new court date if

you show up. cold weather shelters are owning their doors to help those in need in the south bay. new at 6:00, ktvu's maureen naylor is live with how many families are seeking shelter from the cold. >> the doors opened at several shelters, including this one. right now people are filing in behind me. we will try not to show you their faces. this is where a warm meal is being prepared. and over here is where 125 beds have bit etup. 2600 -- have been set up. 2600 people will be seeking ref fuge. people started lining up at 5:00 tonight to get in. once inside and registered they are then given a blanket and a

warm meal. 365 beds are opening tonight at three shelters. organizers say they don't have enough beds for the 7,000 homeless on the streets on any given night. and for some these shelters a lifesaver. >> we do this every year as a life saving function here for folks that are homeless in the country. last year we had 52 people die while homeless and outside. and the purpose is to make sure that number goes down. >> having the shelter open is good because it gives people a chance to get out of the cold and off the streets. >> reporter: in addition shelters in gilroy and 115 beds will be added in san jose. organizers say one third of the people are homeless and they hope to address challenges that often play a role. they also add they are seeing

many new homeless. they don't expect to have to turn away people here tonight but that likely will happen as the weather drops. they will remain open through march. maureen naylor, ktvu channel 2 news. a california judge ruled the state can't use tobacco tax money to fill the budget gab. governor jerry brown wants to use money from early education to fill the gap but a judge says that will be illegal. prop 10 set up the first 5 commission and added a tax on cigarettes. blew shield -- blue shield is making good on giving back some profits to its members. the crets will appear on december bills.

7-year-old skate park tucked under the i-5 in oakland was torn down this morning. skateboarders watched as they crews took down the ramps. the park was built without permission and is not safe. the state tried to work out a deal but now the city has decided not to renew the lease for the land. >> bumped that, i don't know, took a lot longer to build than it is going down. >> officials say they would consider approving another skate park in the future. we are learning more about what may have killed a orca found on a beach. the male orca was found last week at point reyes national seashore. a spokeswoman says blood clots were found in the whale's head.

that indicates a blunt force trauma likely do to interaction with another orca. >> welcome back. dense fog advisories this morning and yesterday morning. fog tomorrow morning will be dense in many locations. we had high clouds today. you see them receding to the south as you see the last couple of hours. what i am expecting as i rook- look at dew points, north bay valley, we will see dense fog again tonight. certainly out here in the big valley. dew points running in the low 40s, mid-40ss. say it's 43 in santa rosa. dew point temperature. when the temperatures reaches 43, it happens quick, boom, fog forms. dew points are high. temperatures will be low. bang! fog everything where. especially inland bay valleys.

winds come up tomorrow, actually wednesday. and those winds help scour the fog out. wednesday morning the fog should be gone and that's good news for those in the central valley. overnight lowes, low 40s. dew points low 40s. 45 in mountain view. 43 san jose. one of the biggest iuse you have -- issues you have is when it gets into the bay, you have boats a lot going on on the bay and the visibilities can get down to a few meters on the bay. some of the worst accidents on the bay occur when you get this fog set up. think about it. hazy sunshine tomorrow in san francisco. dry and mild in san francisco tomorrow. 62 degrees for a day time high. fog forecast, watch it form tomorrow morning, central valley. areas of fog. we know the dew points are high, you will see fog.
