faith, i have to stay strong. >> reporter: for the first time, hiram lawrence senior spoke to cameras outside the hospital in oakland, where his one-year-old is fighting for his life. >> he will bounce back, come back. >> reporter: little hiram who is close to his second birthday can be seen on surveillance video in his father's arms, moments before three gunmen came around the corner and started to shoot monday night. the boy was among three people critically injured. >> we really need to come together and deal with the violence. >> reporter: at the scene of the monday night shooting, people joined in on the circle, focusing on the recovery of the little boy and the entire community of west oakland. >> do you think the community is ready to come forward and solve it? >> well sometimes events like this will make people say enough is enough. >> reporter: despite a reward that grew to 35,000, oakland police have not said if anybody has given them the information they need to track down the shooters in the video. and back here live, a close-up

look at the candlelight vigil going on right now, again we're standing in the area where the shots went off on monday night, and seven people were hurt. just moments ago we actually heard the speaker here say tonight they are sick and tired of the shooting and the killing in this community. and i'll keep listening to what they have to say here, there will be more at 10:00. live, eric rasmussen, ktvu channel 2 action news. and tears flowed today as family and friends along with fellow police officers all said good-bye to officer jim capoot. ktvu's john sazaki is there tonight. >> reporter: this is a tough day at the vallejo police department, and a final good- bye for jim capoot. a passionate rendition of amazing grace came through the vallejo stadium as thousands of people said good-bye to 45-year- old officer jim capoot. >> jim is a true american hero.

we love you, jimmy, and we'll never forget you. >> this stadium was mostly filled with fellow police officers, including his fellow partner who talked about his widow. >> he loved jennifer with all his heart. i could see the grin on his face whenever she called him on his iphone. he was like chubby, he was all sweet and nice, and it would gross me out. >> reporter: the former marine loved his wife, but it is clear his pride and joy were his three daughters, they got up together to say good-bye. >> my dad was amazing, he was my best friend, made me the girl i am today. >> dad i'll forever have your back now, you rest in peace, i'll be seeing you and i love you. good-bye devil dog, oorah. >> reporter: the girl's basketball stood to share their love for the man they called coach. his assistant coach talked about the gift he left.

>> a gift worth more than anything i could have asked for. sharing in the grand and exciting adventure, for allowing me to be a small part of his legacy. >> reporter: the service ended with a fly-over of helicopters and the missing man procession,. and in less than 10 minutes, two bay area communities mourning the loss of a loved one killed in battle. the emotional tributes to a marine from danville, and the sad return of the body of a national guardsman from the south bay. and high winds blamed for the power problems tonight. expected to pick up more, we have live team coverage tonight, ktvu's john fowler and bill martin tracking the conditions, looking at how hard the wind is blowing today. >> the winds pick up definitely. you notice the breeze, the fog clearing out. winds beginning, the gusts are

blowing in the 25 miles per hour range. let's take a look at the bay bridge, the camera is bolted down, bouncing around, up over 25 miles per hour. another live camera, these winds by the way as you look at the flag in oakland, these winds will pick up substantially in the next six hours, the heavier winds going on. let's look at the advisories and warnings, the high wind warning at a thousand feet around the bay area, wind gusts at 60 miles per hour and beyond. above the thousand feet. in the east bay hills, a wind advisory in the rest of the bay area, san jose, antioch, livermore, and current wind speeds in the bay area or wind gusts, giving you the idea here, seeing gusts to 50 miles per hour. so winds coming on, you wouldn't hear them tonight. and they will wake you up. this wind event will last through the day tomorrow. more details when i come back with the weather. all right thank you, now to the health and science center, john fowler up in the oakland

hills, and the safety issues that some are looking at. >> reporter: right now i'm at 1400 feet, and the winds continue to gust over 40 miles per hour here. i just got the latest from pg&e, i want you to look at this video just in. sonoma county utility crews are repairing downed power lines, going on from santa cruz up to santa rosa. from the coast of mt. diablo. 1300 customers now are without power all across the bay area. let's have a look at other video here, we have clear, dry air, whipping down the slopes all across the bay area, great visibility. now -- but we have had trees down across highway 101, and 237. and several other smaller roads here in the east bay hills, gusts hit 43 and 40 miles per hour within the last hour. now there have been -- humidity reports unofficially below 30%. so people in the hills here concerned about fire danger.

i'll tell you when the -- in the last few minutes here, the wind picked up quite a lot. a night to be out to look up at the moon. but -- if you're out and about, particularly if you're around where there are any trees, you're being urged to take extreme caution. reporting live in the east bay hills, health and science center, john fowler, ktvu. and we also want to tell you, we just received a call from pg&e about the power outages, earlier this evening. there were 1300 people without power. now they just added about 1400 people, so we're going to keep our weather forecasts up to the minute on our website at ktvu.com. you can log on any time for weather alerts along with the latest temperatures and live weather radar. caltrans released video of the break through at the new fourth bore of the tunnel we first told you about last

night. the machines worked for months, in difficult conditions, grinding through rock and soil. you can see it breaking through there to the contra costa side. at a ceremony today, they say the 390 million tunnel will open to traffic on time by 2014. officials also said that federal funds are helping to pay for it. also today, caltrans director defending the safety of the new bay bridge suspension tower. this as state lawmakers investigate claims that safety reports were false on other projects. >> much attention as you noted was given to the suspension portion of the bay bridge replacement project. and i want to tell you there are no false tests for the bay bridge foundation piles. >> the caltrans chief is pushing for law enforcement to file criminal charges against a caltrans worker accused of lying on safety reports for three other construction projects. and a huge day on wall street, in fact it was the 7th biggest still day gaining for

the dow. stocks went up early on news, the world central banks, agreed to coordinated efforts to free up cash, increase lending around the globe. at the closing bell, the dow was up 489 points, the nasdaq up about 105 points. more now on the situation with the central banks, today they say they're cutting in half the interest rate on short term lending of u.s. dollars. the dollar is the most frequently used currency for international trading. the agreement includes the european bank, new england, canada, also the banks in england, canada, japan and switzerland. secondly, china agreed to reduce the amount of cash in reserve that banks are required to have. and here in the united states, a surge in the hiring report on the jobs situation. the employment report says that 206,000 jobs were created,

passing the 130,000 expected by the economists. the numbers reflect the biggest gain in job growth since december. and nurses joining teamsters in san francisco today in a gesture of support in great britain. organizers say as many as two million people didn't go to work today in the uk. workers there are angry over pay freezes and proposed pension hikes. and taxpayers still have not received their income tax refund. an irs spokesperson told ktvu that the agency is holding about 3 million in undelivered refunds. those people have changed mailing addresses so their checks were returned to the irs. we strongly recommend that people both electroniccaly filed. to find out if you are due

. in the east bay, hundreds today gathered for the funeral of a fallen serviceman. a group provided the escort for the hearse carrying the body of lance corporal corral. he was killed in action in afghanistan. he was nicknamed chachi, and his father said his son made it very clear why he was enlisting. >> he was as a marine -- he told us he wanted to -- he talked about making a difference. >> at the end of the ceremony, military officials awarded corporal corral a purple heart. and a jet landing at moffett field in mountain view this afternoon, carrying the body of a national guardsman also killed in afghanistan.

the national guard group was on hand, joined by the members of the santa clara sheriff's department. to honor the life of shaun walsh, he wanted to become a k- 9 officer after his military experience. today his mother brought her only son's dog, lena, to the flight line. >> lena would have been there when he came home anyway, and i just feel it is important to me that she was there to welcome him home. >> funeral services are set for this saturday at oak hill memorial park in san jose. and the public is welcome to attend. and we are getting our first look tonight at the deep history being uncovered during the construction of the new trans bay transit center in san francisco. new at 6:00. rob ross shows us pieces of the history that crews have uncovered. >> reporter: it is a case of back to the future. construction crews are building the new terminal near mission,

south of market. last year, the scientists worked on the site, part of the old terminal and found history. items from san francisco in the late 1800s after the gold rush. beginning friday, much of what they found will be on public display. >> we look to learn about people, and the way we do that is through finding things left behind. >> reporter: today we got a sample. around 1870, the site of the terminal was a poor working class neighborhood, mostly irish immigrant families here. >> mostly the families packed in three story houses with three families, often with boarders as well. very cramped conditions. >> reporter: the items are from those families, common items they perhaps took for granted. among them, a tooth brush made from a cow bone, and a bottle called stomach bitter. >> very high alcohol content. >> reporter: this is a society

brakes on the free cars earlier this year, because of the budget crunch, the lawmakers will be helped with the mileage, some say it could cost the state even more. a deal close at hand to bringing itunes to brazil, the largest country in latin america. the group set to launch the company are in advance stages. the group says that itunes could go live as soon as december. apple wouldn't comment today. and adobe buying up an on- line advertising services company. san jose based adobe wait won't say how much it is paying in sunny vale, but they will let it forecast the digital ad campaigns and manage the brands on social media. the deal should be completed during the first business quarter. and pg&e getting ready for power problems due to the gusty

winds. they activated the emergency center in anticipation of the downed lines and tree branches. it will be the first test to see if they can pinpoint the outages as they happen. >> there are a number in the neighborhood. what we may find from the smart meters is good insight, being able to dispatch the crews over the course of a long outage. >> pg&e says this will allow for much faster and more efficient repairs . and wind gusts throughout the area as they ramp up. 20 in san jose, and fairfield. winds clocking easterly. that is when you will notice this increased wind speed, especially in the oakland hills, gusts at 40 miles per hour, and places in the bay area, the areas strongest above the higher elevations, above 2000 feet. at the surface, gusts to 40, 60

miles per hour in the oakland hills. that is tonight, perhaps 70 miles per hour winds, on top of mt. diablo and hamilton, overnight, lasting into tomorrow. heavier winds overnight, but tomorrow we'll still see gusts, 40, 50, 60 miles per hour in some places, separate this from the average run of the mill, lasting 20 hours, this has legs, going overnight, could see power issues, trees downed, and with the winds sustaining themselves throughout the day we could see more issues. so tonight at midnight, just a sam of of forecast winds, these are gusts, probably 36 in oakland, 34 in the oakland hills, and 5:00, wind speeds significant. 43 miles per hour, livermore. and here is the deal, at 5 or 6:00 tomorrow, they're still blowing. that doesn't happen all the time. sort of an unusual situation. these events again, overnight, they die down. they're going to keep going tomorrow. so we'll watch that closely for you. san francisco tomorrow, and

most of the bay tomorrow, it is windy when you wake up. it is breezy all day. temperatures will be on the warm side. what kinds of things will be issues for you tomorrow? airports, i suspect san francisco airport, san jose, issues with runways, changing things around when the winds are too strong. pay attention to that as you travel. notice temperatures are warmer. issues on the bay, the travel on the bay changes, the containerships change the routes on the bay, there is just lots of little things, and of course with the northerly flow, the bridges that run next to the bay bridge are going to have high profile wrinkles, there will be problems, tomorrow again, and here is the five-day forecast. a nice forecast in terms of dry and warm, the winds giving us fits. overnight tonight, and tomorrow, the bridges tomorrow, the bay, lots -- all sorts of issues. >> and if you have anything
