foment line line from both directions. >> we saw people. in fact, i want to show these people getting on this to bus here. just crowds of people who have been let off from one of the trains actually stuck on the track between high ward and south hayward. you can see that bus is just driving away loaded with people who have been waiting here for a while. i want to talk to adam lowe. adam, you were on one of the trains. what exactly happened? >> i was on the train. the dispatcher told us that there is debris on the track and one the trains actually ran over the dey and there was tree mangled under the train. and so we were not going anywhere. >> so you say there was a

rescue train that got you? >> yes. they had to take the train to get everybody up. >> reporter: how long have you been waiting here >> about 40 minutes. >> reporter: what are you going to do now? >> i'm taking the bus. the bus are getting full. we are trying to get to school. it's an inconvenience >> reporter: that's adam lowe who is one of the b.a.r.t. passengers stranded. there is no service between hayward and south hayward. here comes a train here. this is interesting. a train is pulling into the station. we just heard from a b.a.r.t. spokesman. he said there would not be any train service along the entire fremont line until furthenotice. so we want know what is going on. again, there is no service between hayward and how the hayward station. >> thank you, sal other problems caused by the high winds all over the bay area there have been numerous

trees down and a lot of property damage. ktvu's claudine wong is live with some evidence of that. good afternoon, claudine. >> reporter: good morning. we are just above the caldecott tunnel. the wind is commenting in gusts. if you take a look behind me, it seems calm but you the wind will come in gusts. then we'll see some dust blowing. if you want to see evidence of what the wind has done, all you have to do is look at the mess around bait area. >> reporter: you can hear the had he pal top creeing under the pressure of more winds. >> i looked out here and this was down. >> reporter: rodriguez was off in east 14th street in san leandro, in what was a wind tunnel overtime. 90% of the trees were knocked down at the christmas tree lot. >> all our trees are down.

that's okay. >> reporter: you expected snit. >> yes. the biggest thing is keeping our tent from coming apart. >> reporter: just blocks away, overnight, two power lines were also knocked down by the wind sparking a fire in a vacant building. firefighters had that out in about 30 minutes and before the sun came up, they had power restored but that was just one of many across the bay area. a viewer in brentwood sent us a picture of this trampoline moved by wind. this tree knocked down a power line in oakland on bridge avenue. in san francisco, one tree fell on lombard and webster and another on this volkswagen. today, as the wind tubs to blow, the cleanup continues as well. back on east 14th and san lien doctor, construction used rocks to way down the towards and plywood to mend the broken fence. >> you are outside, doing this business, you have to take things as they come. >> reporter: back live out here

in the oakland hills, the winds are beginning to blow some of the trees. you can see how easily things can change, when the wind become stronger. another day of wind across the bay area. let's hope it does not leave a big mess behind. >> certainly, thank you, claudine. the windy weather is also trigs power out ams all around the bay and beyond. pg&e crews have been trying to keep up with the out outages. >> at the same time, santa cruz county shows more than 24,000 customers without electricity. meteorologist mark tamayo is here with more. >> hi. the wind has peaks.

we still have some wind conditions out there. most areas with gusts changing from about 40 to 50 miles per hour but look at mount diablo. a gust to 77 miles per hour during the 4:00 hour this morning. you can't see with all the wind, though, clearing skies and excellent visibility with the frog-free condition. as far as the current conditions, here is a look at the current gusts in san jose, right now at the airport, gusts at 38 miles per hour. oaks land, 25. still pretty windy out towards the delta and fair field. wind advisory in place until 6:00. warnings no longer in place across the lower elevations. the higher terrain, downgrade add bit to a wind advisory but still in place in the north bay hills and east bay hills. in fact. it has been extended until 10:00 tomorrow morning. it was supposed to expire at 6:00. but, still, a wind advisory in place until 10:00 for the north bay hills and east bay hills. the buffets could be approaching 50 miles per hour.

coming up, i'll break down the timing of how the winds will be backing off over the next 24 hours. i'll let you know when sub freezing temperatures can be returning to the bay area forecast. >> thank you, mark. some of the strongest santa ana winds blew winds up to 100 miles per hour. in mass dena, a giant tree broke off and -- in pasadena, a giant tree broke off and fell on to a gas station. an employee barely escaped injuries he was cleaning a squeegee when he heard a snap and the structure fell down. and the strong winds created a challenge for san francisco firefighters battling an early morning fire. two people were critically injured in the blaze which happened in the mission district. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us

live with more on what caused the fiemplet good afternoon, tara? >> good afternoon. we have learned from arson investigators that they have not exactly pinpointed what caused this fire but they do believe it started either in the kitchen or the rear deck of the building that i'm standing in front of right now. we just learned some new information about one of the victims. we have a 35-year-old man who suffered up to 90% of his -- suffered burns up to 90% of his body. most of the damage to the building here and on the back, in the roof. >> my roommate was saying, get up, get up, get up. >> reporter: about two dozen people scramblinged to get out. >> at the same time, the woman upstairs came down, covered in soot, could not breathe, was hysterical. >> this building was between valencia and mission on 24th street. >> when i came down, it was

glowing and orangey as i came down. >> one of the victims was brought down a ladder, and our firefighter gave his mask up so he could have some fresh air to breathe. so he had a little bit of smoke inhalation but we are not transporting him. >> a male victim cut himself smashing the victim while trying to escape a firefighter was able to carry him out the front door. four people were taken to the hospital, two in critical condition with severe burns. but alice nystrom who woke up her roommate was lucky. >> i'm glad that we got out, that all of our roommates came out. we wonder how many people got out. we don't know all of our neighbors so we we hope that her all here. >> the unit on this side of the building, if we come back live here, residents in this building say that there were no smoke alarms. live in san francisco, tara

moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. the jury has just reached its verdict in a civil trial involving b.a.r.t. police officer johannes mehserle. the jury found mehserle and four others not guilty of beating a man on b.a.r.t. he claims the officers were retaliating after he cursed at them and had sought a million dollars in damage. the incident happened six weeks before johannes mehserle killed b.a.r.t. passenger oscar grant and more breaking news in oakland. police are scouring an area in oakland, right now, looking for a man who ran from police. this is a live picture from the area near the walgreen's on high street in oakland. police were chasing a man in a maroon car when it crashed near

the walgreen's and then ran off. police are moving through the area right now looking for him we don't know what he is wanted for. police will only tell us that they have a want for his arrest the parents of an oakland toddler are now asking everyone to play for their little boy. the family hopes that the prayers will help lauren highland, jr. he was among those shot when gunmen opened fire on a crowd. a $35,000 reward is being offered for information that leadsto an arrest. authorities in an he is bay community respond to a fire but they got a lot more than they bargained for when they went inside. and why a group of children visiting the san francisco symphony today.

san francisco's deadline for the sf occupiers to abandon their compound passed about 15 minutes ago, but there is

confusion about what the pro terses will did. some of them say move on. others say no way. >> reporter: just about 15 minutes, they talked to the media about packing up their tents and leaving. the city of san francisco says they wants the tents gone by noon and offered this abandoned school site in the city's mission district. this has been fiercely debated. a group says that a majority, some as many as 75% want to move. others want to stay. >> we can't move the city's requirement to move the camp. that should not stop the people who want to move there and who want to agree the city and who want to work in a different direction. that has never been accepted in any other city in the nation. >> i'm not stopping you from staying. don't stop me from going to

kids' meals. the 10-cent charge only applies to restaurants in san francisco. it's burger king's way of complying with a new city law which goes into effect today. the new ordinance prohibits chain restaurants to giving free toys with kids meals that don't meet strict nutritional standards. mcdonald's announced it would charge 10 cents per toy and it will go towards the ronald mcdonald's house. >> 2000 bay area students were invited to listen to the symphony. the children also sang happy birthday to the symphony. today is the start of the symphony making 100 years of music today. kor more, click on web links on

ktvu.com. well, we have been tracking this wind event for a little over 24 hours and still some wind events out there. san francisco currently in the lower sixties. excellent visibility is out there with the strong winds and remember we were talking about the fog just a few days ago. no fog out there and mostly clear skies showing up on satellite. most of the cloud cover way out to the south and east. current winds, can't see the oakland hills right around 32 miles per hour. mount diablo, 3800 feet. wind right around 70 miles per hour and right around the elevation here. you can see winds on average around 35 to 50 miles per hour. winds still a big factor as we do head into the afternoon and evening hours. gusting around 40 to 50 miles per hour. we have a wind advisory. it has been downgraded from a high wind warning down to an advisory for the north bay hills and the east bay hills until 10:00 tomorrow morning. the winds should begin to gradually back off later

tonight and into early friday morning. they are still going to be around even as you head into friday. there will be some breezy conditions. we do have this throughout the day. gusty wind in most of the bay area. temperatures have not changed too much from the overnight lows to the afternoon highs most areas have been in the lower 50s to high 40s. here ace look at the numbers this afternoon. san francisco, 65. hayward, 66 degrees. san jose tops that right around 67. and livermore, 66 degrees with winds on average around 15 to 25 miles per hour but still gusting right around 30 to 35 miles per hour. some changes in your extended forecast with your weekend always in view. you still notice some breezy conditions into your friday. we'll take them down a notch as we head into the next 24 hours. more sunshine out there but

some chilly mornings once the winds back off. we will be trading off those gusty conditions. coolest locations in the north and east pay down into the lower 30s. patchy fog out there no rain clouds in the five-day forecast. it's not like they are going to be flipping a switch and the wind are off. they will still be a factor but not as strong a unique fundraiser is helping some schools in the area raising money while raising awareness for alternative energy i allows schools to earn $100 for every home signs up for the energy upgrade. bray green already teaches students how to recycle,compost and garden. >> it's another way to save the world. instead of cutting down more trees, we can just recycle

week fell today stocks waved between slight gains and losses. another rise in application for weekly unemployment benefits seemed to dampen the mood a little bit. the dow currently down 13, 12,031. nasdaq is up 10. s&p it down 1 1/2. auto dealers sold a lot of cars in november making the month the most successful in auto sales since the clash for clungers days in 2009. chrysler, ford and nissan were among the companies reporting double digit gains from last november bringing the annual rate of car sales to more than 13 1/2 million. november is usually a lackluster month for autos because of the bad weather and the holidays. however, buyers were lurid in because of the improving economy and need for newer cars. brisk retail sales over the thanksgiving holiday weekend.
