up to highway 17. again we mentioned the bay area bridges. let's go live to ktvu reporter claudine wong who is right near the bay bridge. >> reporter: things are certainly windy out here. there is a sign posted that will warn you there are high winds on the bridge. one of the mornings you want to keep both hands on the wheel. those winds can whip you around. the bay bridge not the only one with the high wind warns on them. the san mateo bridge, the benicia bridge. this will be the situation all morning but it will die down. things have been windy all night long. they did cause problems at the airport last night. paramedics had to help a southwest airlines flight attendant as she was in a neck brace and went to an ambulance. what happened was there was a lot of turbulence on board.

this was flight 1489. it landed at about 8:35. the turbulence was strong but lasted only ten seconds. >> it was bad. the plane shook quite a bit and then dropped. >> reporter: if you have ever been on a plane when something like that happens, it can be pretty scary. that passenger told us some passengers did start to cry. 95 passengers on board that plane. nobody was injured. another flight attendant was hurt had to be treated. didn't go to the hospital. certainly took a lot of people. things are looking good. they have not they are saying at this point they are not anticipating any problems. again taking a live look back at the bay bridge. i can tell you it's windy. the wind is pretty strong. this is the advisory make sure you are careful when you cross those bridges. claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. the strong winds have

knocked out power to thousands of people in the bay area. we received updated numbers within the last five minutes. they tell us more than 1900 customers are without power. 335 customers in the east bay are still in the dark. on the peninsula it's 85 customers. power has been restored to customers in san francisco and north of the golden gate bridge. crews have been working overnight and will continue to work throughout the day to restore power to everyone. in santa cruise county more than 24,000 people are without power. fallen trees are down and down power lines have isolated hundreds of homes. a 50-foot tree limb damaged power lines and smashed a fence. came down within a few feet of a house. some of the people in the santa cruz mountains have been without power for 24 hours. >> we lived here for 18 years,

i have never seen the wind quite like it was today. >> pg&e says power may not be fully restored there until the weekend. the high winds are also being blamed for a fire that destroyed two homes in livermore. that fire was reported yesterday afternoon on andrew street. firefighters say it started at one house and quickly spread next door. the exterior of a third house was damaged as well. one person was in the house where the fire started but managed to get out. the cause is under investigation. once again tensions are running high at the occupy san francisco camp. there was another confrontation between protestors and police just hours ago. paul chambers joins us now from justin herman plaza with exclusive video. >> reporter: good morning, pam. tempers are flairing here at occupy san francisco withinth enscampment. about an hour ago there was police that had to show up to

the scene because there was a fight within occupy san francisco. our cameras were rolling. bystanders and police told me a couple of men were invited into the encampment. they were possibly drinking and possibly doing drugs. others asked those people to leave. when that happened that's when they got heat and started arguing. police stood by to keep the police. no one was arrest or ejected. this all comes on the heels of an incident between occupiers and police last night. they brought in barricades. they were worry about dangers on the edge of the camp. however within occupy some people thought it was a raid. >> it's just a preemptive strike. they are maneuvering to take over the camp. >> the officers exercise great

restraint. >> police say they were only trying to contain a hazardous situation which included a fire at the camp yesterday. now the question is how much longer will it be before the city enforces a deadline which has already come and gone to remove occupy in this area. we will stay on top of this. as of right now there are not very many officers out here. it doesn't appear they will raid any time soon. if that happens we will bring it to you. earlier this morning fire crews left the scene of a grass fire in livermore. that fire was called in just before 6:00 last night. it began on kohl year canyon road and quickly spread to about 193 acres. firefighters say 67 miles an hour winds made the flames hard to control. and to make matters worse that fire was in a rural area with no fire hydrants. crews said they had a truck in their own water to battle the

fire. some homes were threatened but were not damaged by that fire. in total, crews from four different agencies had to be called in to get that fire under control. the san francisco fire department has been fined in connection with the deaths of two firefighters. ? june this fire on berkeley way killed vincent perez and anthony valerio. yesterday cal osha fined the fire department $21,000 and cited a number of violations. it includes the lack of effective injury and illness prevention program. a break down in communications between firefighters. failure to keep two backup firefighters outside. and the battalion chief entered the home alone and did not keep contact with other firefighters inside. attempted child production -- we told you yesterday about the 11-year-old girl that

claimed a man grabbed her in front of the marin brewing company. the girl made up the story to get attention. police said she did see a man walking in front of the company but he did not grab her. let's check in with sal far look at traffic. >> good morning, and happy friday to you and all that are watching. let's take a look at the commute. if you are driving on 80 westbound it looks pretty good. again pretty windy out there. it's not going to be great driving across the bridges. as you saw lou dean say earlier. there will be high wind warning for most if not all of the bay area bridges. you can see here at the bay bridge it's light still. if you can do it safely without stopping and causing a big distress wave to claudine as you drive by. this is a look at northbound 280 getting up to highway 17.

michael wilbert who's rv had a dead battery. the car somehow hit gonzalez while they were working on it and the driver took off. >> we were able to locate the vehicle within 30-40 minutes at the time of the investigation. it was still close by in the area and the suspect was contacted. >> people in the area say wilbert had been living in his rv for the past six months. al qaeda says they are holding an american relief worker hostage. an al qaeda leader saying his group has 40-year-old wineseen. he was kip napped nearly four months ago. he's an aid worker that has lived in the area for three years. part of the withdrawal from

iraq the u.s. handed over camp victory. it includes many of saddam hussein luxury palaces. iraq has not yet announced the plan for the complex. there is talk turning saddam's jail cell into a museum. they have cleared johannes mehserle and other police officers in -- jurorred had deliberated for five hours. the transit officers were accused of beating 43-year-old ken meth carrethers and arrest -- kenneth carrethers and arresting him. >> he knows he has things to deal with that were created on the night of the tragedy. >> i'm very disappointed. i'm very disappointed.

extradition back to the bay area. the fatal shooting took place on november 10th. city leaders decided to clear out the camp a few days later. this morning dozens of occupy santa cruz protestors remain inside an abandoned downtown bank. they first broke into the empty billing wednesday night-- building wednesday night. they say they have no plans to leave. we captured them coming and going through a roof vent. the owner of the property say it's time for police to move in. >> i think our downtown will continue to struggle unless we show that we are willing to support businesses and support property owners. right now they are not standing up for the property owners here. there is tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage to this property. >> the demonstrators are trespassing but it's not clear if they plan to remove the

protestors by force. police in riot gear went to the building shortly after takeover but they decided to allow them to stay at least for now. the labor department will release the november jobs report in the next hour. economists expect our report to show the country added between 125 and 150,000 jobs in the last month. that would be a gain from the 80,000 jobs added in october. but not enough to change the unemployment rate. stay with us here on the ktvu morning news we will bring you the new numbers when they come in at 5:30. new numbers show the city's budgets deficit is much smaller. the $80 million deficit is more than half that number. now as a result, mayor chuck reid is calling off a tuesday vote for the city council to declare a fiscal emergency.

however mayor reid also says that vote could still take place next year. on capitol hill the from senate democrats that would tax the rich to extend the payroll tax cut is dead. senate republicans and democrats blocked that bill yesterday after debate. a republican proposal would have paid for the payroll tax cut with reductions to the federal work force. democrats quickly killed that plan as well. republican presidential candidate herman cain says his wife did not know about his friendship with the woman who now claims the two had an affair. cain talked to a new hampshire paper yesterday. he said he gave ginger white money to help her with month to month bills but insisted there was no affair. cain says he will make a decision whether to stay in the presidential race after talking to his wife later today. 4:50 is the time right now. a big mess in tennessee.

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. we want to take you to tennessee. this was the scene yesterday. thick fog and black ice are being involved for a deadly pile up in tennessee. it happened on an overpass during the morning commute yesterday. a 28-year-old man was killed. 16 other people were injured. took more than five hours to clear that scene. honda is rechalk thousands of its vehicles because of an air bag problem. the concern is that the air bags may inflate with too much pressure possibly causing

injuries or death. now honda says there has been 20 accidents so far related to the problem including two deaths in 2009. the recall effects accord, civics, odysseys and others manufactured in 2001 and 2002. general motors is offering to buy back its chevy volt from owners that are concerned about fire risks. the move comes after three vehicles caught fire after government crash tests. gm insists that the cars are safe, but it also says it wants to make its customers happy. a man accused pa coo sew draw -- pa kaw sew drawing will be in jail. he is identified as a suspect in several new york heists

shortly after he was arrested in san francisco. oakland raiders line backer mcclain is expected to play this sunday against miami but that is after getting arrested in his home state of alabama. the 22-year-old was in alabama for his grandfather's funeral. police say mcclain was involved in a fight wednesday night. a man told police that mcclain held a gun to his head and fired a shot beside his ear. he was released on bail yesterday and faces four misdemeanor charges. 4:55 is the time. back to sal. pretty windy. how are the bridges? >> they are windy as we have been telling you. if you are driving across any of the bay area bridges you should use caution. you may end up in one of the other lanes. if you are driving this morning anywhere use caution. this is a look at 880 northbound. still have a little bit of road work here. right near the coliseum. you see flashing lights. it is early. it is not causing a major
