ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00. richmond police are have r- investigating two shootings that happen within 12 hours of eth. this weekend one person was killed and lorrain blanc reports. >> reporter: devotion candles sit where a 46- year-old man was gunned down. richmond police arrestedded 26- year-old gil turner for the deadly shooting and 12 hours later, a man shot a security guard at a hooka bar and took off. henry stinson who lived in richmond for decades says when he was younger he didn't have time of to get in trouble. >> the young people walking on the streets need jobs and some kind of schooling to prepare them for jobs. >> reporter: although homicides are slightly up, the lieutenant says crime in general has been going down and she believes that community policing has helped. >> we routinely go to community meetings to listen to the concerns and we hope people come and bring the concerns to

work together to solve the problems here. >> reporter: in january, 2009, parishioners dodged bullet. refer rear end levi says they are stronger than ever, preach against violence in church. >> to talk to the children about the violence, because we have got to stop it. somehow, some way we're going stop. it with the help of the good lord we're going to stop it. >> reporter: and that was lorrain blanco recording. police are still looking for the suspect in the hooka bar shooting and don't have a detailed description, but believe the guy took off in a lexus coup with three other men, all of them in their 20s. in other news tonight a dozen people took spart in the stop the violence march in honor of a toddler shot and critically wounded in oakland last week. the march for baby hiram lawrence got underway at oakland's mall. hirax is just shy of his second

birthday and remains in critical condition at oakland's children's hospital. >> this is really sad where all of these kids are getting shot and babies are getting shot. everybody, this has got to stop. >> march organizers were collecting money for a trust fund to set up to pay for hiram's medical care. donations can be made at any bank of the west branch. you can also find out more information about going our our website ktvu.com. investigators in oakland are looking into the cause of a fire that forced several people to flee their apartments. flames broke out on the bottom level of the a two story apartment building on 28th and market streets. fire officials say when crews arrived there was heavy smoke and flames were spreading. >> it's an extremely hot fire. so they had to do an interior tack and they were able to put the fire out on the first floor, fire out in the second floor and some fire got into the attic and they cut holes to lete the heat out. >> nobody was injured and fire officials do not have a cause

yet, but say it does not appear to be suspicious. the red cross is helping out tonight after a fire at an apartment building in san francisco's tenderloin district forced dozens from their homes. the fire was reported at about 8:00 this morning. investigators say a discarded cigarette likely sparked that blaze. the berkeley apartment building gutted by a fire last month is almost completely torn down. one wall and a huge pile of debris remains of what was a four-story building. the fire was syn tense, engineers recommend it be demolished. crews estimated that they would be finished by tomorrow. nobody was injured, but 70 people, many of them uc berkeley students lost their home. san francisco's famous union square is filled with holiday shoppers as the countdown to christmas is underway. paul chambers is live in the city with the plan by police and business owners to keep a certain type of crime at bay. >> reporter: ken, the holiday season is in

full swing as you see by twinkling tree behind us. this week san francisco police are expected to roll out the holiday safe shopper problem as they crackdown on aggressive panhandling. it's 20 days until christmas and the holiday shopping rush is upon us. union square is a fine area for shopping and it mean it's also an area a lot of panhandling could take place. >> it could be aggressive and they come up and interrupt whatever you might be enjoying at the moment. >> panhandlers follow the money and certainly we have more people coming to union square this time of the year. >> reporter: today the mobile command center was post in the area. this may be part of the police and business improvement district and attempts to curb aggressive panhandling. just asking for money isn't illegal, but when the panhandler follows or threatens

the person it becomes aggressive panhandle and that will not be tolerated. >> what the police and our staff focus on is trying to eliminate those people out there aggressively. >> reporter: police will handle it on a case- by-case base. a person could be warned, cited or informed by social service programs and although many people point out panhandling is a problem, most people we talked to today say this time of year is the time to be generous and don't mind regular panhandling. >> everybody has hard times sometimes. and some folks handle them better than others. so i guess it doesn't bother me. >> i hope it does bring awareness to the homelessness in this country and people are more aware and help. >> reporter: there will also be more uniformed and undercover cops on the streets throughout the season. live in san francisco, paul clam bers, ktvu channel 2 news. a new report estimates sales over the all important

thanksgiving weekend were up significantly over last year. national retailer federation projected $4 billion was spent compared to the same time last year. it is estimated sales were up 20% on black friday and 33% on cyber monday this year. two good samaritans tabled a suspected shoplifter at nordstrom in walnut creek. police say at 8:30 brian black of island was seen running out of the store with an arm load of high-end purses. officers say black actually used pepper-spray spray on the customers who tackled him and when police arrive they had arrested black and say his female accomplish police and the man driving netaway car fled the scene of the car described as a beige ford fusion with dealer babier plate. many were critically judah thousands stormed the field last night after oklahoma beat their rivals the oklahoma seniors.

when the clock ran out, fans swarmed the field and tore down the two goalposts. some people were tramp the while one man fell 15 feet onto the concrete during the celebration and back in the bay area, three people suffered major injuries when a railing at at&t park collapsed. it happened just before 9:15 last night during a championship football game between sacred heart cathedral and s.a.t. ignatius high schools. those who were injured were treated at the stage. 12,000 people were in the stands during the game. a man walking a bike along the shoulder of 101 in burlingame was killed by an oncoming car. it happened at broadway exit. the chp tells ktvu the man was walking southbound on the shoulder of the northbound lane. the accident closed all northbound lanes for about an hour. the chairperson says the adult man was pronounced dead at the the scene. more tension between police and protesters after an

overnight crackdown on the occupy portland encampment. >> you must clear the intersection. failure to do so couldrupt in your arrest. >> portland city officials shut down south park blocks sending hundreds of protesters into the streets. demonstrators were told earlier in the day that overnight camping would not longer be allowed. more than a dozen people were arrested on charges of trespassing or interfering with officers. >> pg&e tonight says all power has been restored to the bay area, but to a few hundred people and those few hundred people are still in the dark in santa cruz county. santa cruz county boor the brunt power outages. there are still about 550 customers in santa cruz county without power. some santa cruz residents have lived for several days in the dark. a pg&e spokesman tells ktvu all power has been restored in the nine bay area counties. the clean-up continues in

southern california, days after fierce winds knocked down trees and power lines there. power is still out though for thousands of customers. a spokesperson fortune los angeles county department of public works seas the wind storm was the worst in i decade. firefighters were on alert as a red-flag warning was in effect for l.a. and veteranaur counties. a new report shows carbon dioxide emissions worldwide soared to record levels last year. according to the global carbon project emissions rose 5.9% in 2010. that is the largest percentage increase in almost a decade. the new figures come as the united nations climate summit gets underway this week in south africa. a new lundberg survey shows gas prices are down an average $0.09 to $3.29. in san francisco, gas is averaging $3.72 and in oakland, about $33695 and in san josi,

. well, that is the sound of a massive british world war ii bomb successfully diffused in germany this morning. crews discovered the 1.8-ton bomb in the rhine river last month. about 45,000 people living near the river were evacuated for the operation. they since then have been allowed back to their homes. more than one hundred people came together for a 31- mile bike ride to mark the you coming anniversary of the start of of the aids epidemic. as ktvu's allie rasmus explain it's part memorial and part practice run for an even bigger run next summer the rainfall.

morning began with a moment of silence and remembrance. people joined hands to remember loved ones they have lost to aids in the three decades since the disease was discovered. >> there there is prog, but one thing we have to remember is that the disease is still out there and we still need to continue to raise awareness. >> reporter: that was one of the goals of this bike ride, the 31-mike trek started at golden gate park through ocean beach and ended up at the aids memorial grove in the park. it commemorates world aids day and 31 years of fighting the disease. >> san francisco and the san francisco aids foundation are at the heart of that, it will be the 30th anniversary of the san francisco aids foundation. >> reporter: the ride is organized by positive peddlers an hiv/aids awareness group, but working closely with the organize of the longer bike ride that is supposed to happen in san francisco in june. >> 545-mile race. >> reporter: it's alled the aids lifecycle ride. margaret watson did it last year? >> it was life-change.

infidelity. an advisor reportedly told politico that cain will likely endorse newt gingrich. their relationship dates back to gingrich's time as speaker of the house when he appointed cain to a commission on economic growth and tax reform. cain hopes to maximize the impact of his endorsement with an announcement before the iowa caucus on january 3rd. only on 2 tonight an exclusive new ktvu field poll that shows californians are a lot happier request governor brown's job performance than they are with the state legislature in a telephone survey condidn'ted last month, 47% said governor brown was going a good job. 36% disapprove and those numbers have remained steady for most of the year, by compare those numbers to the 22% approval rating for the state legislature. despite the low number it's an improvement from the 10% approval rating lawmakers received this time last year. russian voters have soundly rejected the

authority of their prime minister vladimir putin. that result is disputed with widespread allegations of fraud and unfairness. police arrested protesters in mosque moscow and st. petersburg. east bay drivers who use highway 4 may soon want to think of an alternative route. transaction officials say all on-ramps and off-ramps to the highway in antioch could be n construction by this time next year. treaspart of a $500 million project to widen that part of the freeway by 2015. officials are already planning to distribute notices about the upcoming project throughout the city. well, it seems we have had plenty of wind as of late and there may be more on the way. ktvu meteorologist mark tamayo joins us now. >> we have been tracking multiple wind events and that next one moving into the bay

tonight and into monday morning. so for your monday, more sunshine out there. northeasterly winds from 15-25 miles per hour. so fairly good forecast for most of the region. but as we go up in elevation, wind speeds will be on the increase. as a result, an advisory kicks in, 10:00 tonight, lasting until 10:00 tomorrow morning for the north bay hills and east bay hills, gusts could be approaching 40-45 miles per hour and with this pattern in place, not only here, but across a good portion of the northern california, with the dry northerly flow, fire dancers will be on the increase. so something we'll keep an eye on as we head into monday. 7:00, cool and dry. temperatures in the 40s. by 12:00, lots of sunshine out there and temperatures warping back into the upper 50s to lower 60s for afternoon highs. most areas a little cooler than today's readion, but plenty of sunshine. santa rosa, 61 and san francisco
