101. so depending on where you are at if you don't have the wind outside your door, chances are you are cooler than those of us waking up with a little bit of a breeze. now the wind will continue top shift off to the east. in fact, if you do take early morning drive to the sierra, we do have a lake wind advisory there. for us the wind advisory has been canceled and that happened earlier this morning. sunny and cool conditions expected for the afternoon. the breeze expected anywhere from 5-10 miles an hour. perhaps 15 in some of the windier spots. we will see temperatures very similar to what we saw yesterday. we will be sitting in the mid to upper 50s for your lunchtime. into the afternoon upper 50s to low 60s with mostly sunny skies. sunsetting at 4:51. we'll come back in a few moments and take a look at what you can expect in the afternoon. sal good morning. rosemary good morning, to you. traffic is moving along pretty well around the bay area. it is moving well on the east shore freeway. as you drive westbound heading out to the mccarthur maze.

also the morning commute looks pretty good in san francisco. northbound 101 and that extennessee to the lower deck of the -- extends to the lower deck of the bay bridge. this is a look at 280 getting up to highway 17. it's 4:30 let's go back to the desk. we begin with overnight news that could effect candy lovers during an important season. we begin with kraig debro who is at the picket line in union city with who son strike. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, pam. behind me more than a dozen workers with the licorice company on strike. worker tells me 250,000 pounds of red vines and other candies are made here each day. but not today. the strike will probably slow down production. the workers began walking the picket lines around 1:00 this morning. union rep says the dispute is over benefits. the company wants to stop payments to a union trust fund.

that pays for workers health care benefits. instead the company wants the workers to use its health care system. >> it's different where they will not have copayments. and in our plan they don't have to pay for nothing. >> people have been working here one guy working here for 35 years. 33 years. they should have a little bit better benefit for them. >> reporter: i tried to reach the licorice company for response. the company said they were not ready to response. in the meantime the workers are out here in the cold weather. it's not just here it's up on whipple. we'll give you a better look at that. coming up. reporting live in union city kraig debro. san francisco police are investigating a frightening accident involving a speeding car and a neighborhood bar. it happened last night in the western edition. take a look.

police say a driver clipped another car and then smashed into the high tides bar on jones. both the driver and female passenger were rushed to san francisco general hospital. no word on their condition at this point. fortunately no one in the bar was hurt. >> if this happened last night when there were hundreds of people, there would have been better chances that someone would have been injured. this is sunday night and so there was not a lot of people out. >> blood tests on the injured driver will reveal if alcohol was a factor in the crash. new this morning an oakland man is in serious condition after being shot. it happened just after midnight in the area of rust sit street. the victim was on the sidewalk in front of his family home when he was shot at least once in the chest. now we are told that investigators are looking at the possibility that the attack was an attempted robbery. so far no arrests have been

made. oakland will present its new police academy later this morning. this is the first academy since the city laid off officers last year. there are ten trainees today. all were slated to become officers until the layoffs. the money comes from a $10 million justice department grant. oakland will hire 25 new officers and assign them to high crime middle school neighborhoods. firefighters in oakland are investigating the cause of a fire that left two families homeless. that started on 28th and market street at about 10:00 yesterday morning. more than a dozen firefighters worked to put it out. a fast response did help them save the building. everyone was able to get out safely. firefighters say it does not appear to be suspicious. in san francisco dozens of people are in temporary housing after a fire burned their apartment. it started in the tenderloin yesterday morning. the red cross is helping to

provide shelter for more than 60 people that are homeless. firefighters believe it was caused by a disguarded cigarette. >> the bathroom was burnt and part of the closet was burnt down too. i guess i was more fortunate because there was other apartments that were more badly burnt. >> most people will be able to return home today. expect for those that lived in seven units that were the most damaged. the power is back on for hundreds of people in santa cruz county that have been living in the dark for the past four days. we were in ben low man last night when pg&e restored power there. one pg&e crew we talked to has been working 16 hour days to fix power lines that were brought down by a large redwood tree. >> just trying to work as safe and fast as we can to get the job done.

>> some people that live in the area have been relying on generators. they are relieved to finally shut them off. officers say other people say it has been nice to turn on their christmas lights that they hung up recently right before the power was knocked out. later today the city of east palo alto will begin to clean a toxic dump. the 80-year-old dump is located on bay street. the three phase cleanup includes creating a nature park. the city also plans to clean up the soil which contains toxins such as mercury and arsenic. the environmental agency is working with east palo alto to safely complete the cleanup efforts. new youtube video shows a weekend accident at at & t park in san francisco. look at that. that's what happened saturday

convoy of automobile enthusiast drove down a highway. a driver of ferrari tried to change lanes. that's when the driver hit a median and spun across the highway and caused a chain reaction. no one was seriously hurt. we are hearing reports that former presidential candidate herman cain will announce today he is endorsing newt gingrich. cain announced saturday he was suspending his presidential campaign after several allegations of sexual harassment and an affair. gingrich has scheduled a press conference today. today the struggling u.s. postal service will announce major changes that will slow the delivery time of first class mail. the agency has come up with a new cost cutting plan in the face of a $14.1 billion deficit next year. it includes closing half the

mail processing centers a i cross the country and lowering delivery standards for first class mail. currently it's supposed to be delivered in one to three days. that will lengthen to two to three days. allie rasmus will have more on the story coming up. a washington, d.c. park is clear this morning. that is after occupy protestors built a wooden structure and refused to leave. police arrested the one remaining protestor last night after an hours long standoff. you can see an officer on a cherry picker tieing a rope around the protestor. they arrested 31 protestors. six of them had been taken down with the help of the cherry picker. it was a violent weekend in richmond with two shootings in 12 hour. despite the latest understand accidents police and residence

are optimistic about the crime rate. a security guard was shot at pacific east mall. police say there is a slight rise in homicides but crime in general is going down. >> we routinely go to community meetings to listen to the concerns. we hope that people will come and bring those to us. >> one person has been arrested in the shooting death of the 46- year-old man. police are look for suspects in the shooting of the security guard. they say a group of men in their 20s were spotted leaving the scene in a lexus coop. friends and family of a one- year-old boy shot and critically wounded in oakland held a stop the violence march over the weekend. a dozen people marched down 73rd avenue to show support for baby lawrence. hiram was caught in the cross fire of a mass shooting. he remains in critical

car. shoppers at san francisco's union square will notice a heavy police presence. police have set up a mobile command center in the area. officers hope to curve the problem of aggressive panhandling. while asking for money is legal. when a panhandler follows blocks or threatens a person the behavior becomes aggressive and that will not be tolerated. >> i felt like we might have been approached a bit more frequently in years past which is unnerving for him. this year we haven't seen very many. >> police will handle aggressive panhandling on a case by case basis. a person could be warned, sited or informed about social services. national career fair is holding a job fair at the san mateo marriott. several companies will be attending including the u.s.

mint, solar universe, and acrobat outsourcing. san francisco city supervisors are scheduled to consider a proposal to turn over the sharp park golf course to the federal government. environmental groups suggest closing the pacifica course scene converting it into a national course. they say it will save taxpayers money and protect the red light frogs and the endangered san francisco guarder snake. opponents say they can protect the environment while still maintaining the interest of low income golfers who rely on that public course. 4:49. a legendary recording artist has a new honor this morning. the attribute to neil diamond and other a-list stars in

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. hundreds of people there waiting in line in kansas yesterday morning. they were waiting to get tickets to see president obama speak tomorrow. president obama will speak at the same high school where president roosevelt delivered his new nationalism speech in 1920. that's when he called for all americans to get quote a fair chance. president obama tends to use the backdrop to continue his push for congress to extend an expiring tax cut to help out middle school families. a who's who list of singers, artists, and actors came together in washington,

bay shore freeway. also the morning commute looks good on interstate 880 in oakland. there are no major problems on westbound 580 either as you drive over to the mccarthur maze. and this morning if you are driving on the golden gate bridge traffic between marin county and san francisco looks good. if you are driving on the doyle drive area, that traffic also moves very well and there are no problems in san francisco along the freeways. 4:53 let's go to rosemary. >> good morning, to you. mixed weather out there this morning. some of us dealing with a light breeze. some of us dealing with strong gusts and some of us dealing with the cold. if you are not dealing with wind, chances are you are chilly out there this morning. hayward upper 30s to low 40s. napa seeing a light breeze. 8 miles an hour right now. temperatures sitting in the upper 40s to low 50s. fairfield that gust continuing to blow at 30 miles an hour. no wind advisory to deal with at this time.

the wind. meaning the possibility of a frost advisory and freeze warnings. outside of that we are mild and dry. we know which bowl game stanford and cal will play in. the fourth ranked cardinal is heading for the fiesta bowl. quarterback luck will lead stanford. both teams have 11 wins and one loss on the season. cal will face off against texas in the holiday bowl on december 28th. the golden bears will head to san diego after winning three of their final four games. this is the fifth time that the two schools have played and cal is looking for its first win against the long horns. the bay area's bowl game will feature another pac 12 team. ucla will go up against illinois in the kraft hunger bowl. it's taken two years, a couple of surgeries, and 26 tournaments but tiger woods is a winner again.
