"mornings on 2" starts now. well, good morning to you. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clavg. >> i'm tori campbell. it's monday, december 5th. straight to sal. good morning, tori and dave. westbound bay bridge, two left lanes were blocked for about a half-hour a few moments ago. they cleared this crash. at the toll plaza there's a big delay now and also at the macarthur maze. just getting around the east shore freeway, it's terp. you can see it's -- it's terrible. you can see it's at a standstill. if you are driving on the freeways approaching, you will notice something is terribly wrong here. so give yourself plenty of time. even the carpoolers have a little bit of time to wait because once you get through toll plaza, you will be able to

get through but getting there is another story. give yourself extra time. and we'll have an update in a few minutes. back to you. >> thank you. major changes are coming to the u.s. postal service. allie rasmus is at a mail processing center in oakland with the changes that the postal service is expected to announce this morning to help avoid bankruptcy. alley? >> reporter: well, the changes that could mean this facility will get a lot easier. it's staffed 24 hours a day. it's always opened. there's always people working here because they have a lot of mail to get through. things could get even busier here this spring. that's because the u.s. postal service is considering closing nearly half of all of its facilities nationwide. this facility is not on the closure list but another one in petaluma is. so if that closes, all of the mail would get processed here

in oakland. the poetal service -- postal services are doing this because they are predicting a $14 billion loss. the petaluma processing facility is one of 250 adoctors the country that could -- athe -- across the country. that would mean delays in mail delivery. specifically, first-class mail. right now, first-class mail is expected to arrive one to two days to arrive. but with these changes, it could take three to five days. first-class mail includes any letter with a first-class stamp and a lot of packages are sent first-class mail and a lot of periodicals are sent first- class mail. the u.s. postal service is expected to announce these changes. we'll be listening to that and tell you what they had to say

what people are doing there. >> reporter: well, we're hoping to glean some new information. as of right now, what we understand is the biggest clue police have to go on is the getaway car. last night, two people were shot in the burger kick parking lot. redwood city police say one victim ran inside the restaurant to get help. now, there is a place selling christmas trees. a lot of people were out doing -- shoching and heart the -- were out and heard the shootings. the victims' names are being confidential at this point. all we know, they are hispanic males, one aged 29. the other aged 32. we have no motive in this case.

0 so no word whether -- so no word whether this guys is gang- related. >> 7:05. san francisco police are investigating a frightening accident involving a speeding car and a neighborhood bar -- neighborhood bar. it happened last night. police say the driver clipped another car and smashed into the high tides bar. both the driver and his female passenger were rushed to san francisco general hospital. there's no word on their condition. fortunately, nobody inside the car was hurt. >> if this happened last night, where there were hundreds of people in the street, there would probably have been a better chance that someone could have been injured. but today today, sunday night, there weren't a lot out. >> police say blood tests on the driver will reveal whether alcohol was a factor in this crash. another lucky supermarket appears to have been hit with a debit card scan.

the latest reports come from the lucky store in petaluma. customers and employees at the store on lakeville highway report as much as $1,000 withdrawn from accounts linked to their atm ard. that was after they used their atm cards at the -- card. that was after they used their atm cards. skimming devices were found at 20 self-check out lines at -- 20 self-checkout lines at stores, lucky stores. the public utilities commission advising some peninsula and east bay residents not to be alarmed.

clear but traffic is very slow. this is the east shore freeway approaching the bay bridge. you can see for yourself, it is very slow all the way through the maze. it's at a standstill and then getting to the bridge itself is going to be busy. once you get on the bridge, it's good. but again, we had a crash that blocked two lanes for about a half-hour, 45 minutes there and the crash is clear but traffic is barked up beyond the toll plaza. let's go to 92 -- backed up beyond the toll plaza. let's go to 92. a big crash. fire crews are still on the scene. the lanes are still mostly blocked. some cars are getting through. but it's going to be a big backup in this area of highway 92. if you are in half moon bay or trying to get there, it will be maybe advisable that you think about putting the trip off if you can or using an alternate route. here's rosemary. take a look at this

been calling our office and they've been coming over to our side. i think part of that is because people see i'm the tea party candidate in the race. >> now, newt gingrich's campaign has added a news conference to his schedule today following a meeting with donald turn. the speculation -- donald trump. a federal lawsuit was timed on california's -- filed on california's open-carry gun law. back in 1967, the state made it a crime to openly carry a loaded gun. this year, governor brown made it illegal to openly care an unloaded handgun. supporters of lawsuit say these laws are too restrictive. deputies ended two occupy santa cruz demonstrations this

weekend. earlier yesterday officers made two arrests while removing dozens of protesters who had taken over a county building. at about the same time, deputies moved in on the protesters who took over a downtown bank last week. the group of 30 protesters left peacefully and there were no arrests. but authorities are km piling a detailed report -- compiling a detailed report and those responsible could face criminal charges. those living in the mission district are fighting the plan to set up a new occupy camp. thethe -- the city wants them to move to mission street. some living near the site worry this could create a public health tret and there -- threat and there are also concerns about crime. many occupy protesters themselves don't want to move to that location. the foot dur of -- the

future of afghanistan is being debated. now, 60 foreign ministers, including secretary of state, hillary clinton, will also be there. they will be talking about afghanistan's future after most foreign military forces leave agriculture. that includes the transfer of security responsibility, long- term prospects for independent national aid. and islamic news agency reports that iranian forces brought down a plane and seized it, a drone. they say that violated their airspace. now, u.s. sources say a drone did go missing over afghanistan late last week. it's equipped with technology. the u.s. ambassador to pakistan says the u.s. is doing everything it can to comply with base used by american

drone planes. pakistan has given the u.s. until december 11th to leave that military base. that order came after nato air strikes killed 24 pakistani soldiers triggering outrage around the country. there is a new threat this morning from the japanese nuclear power plant damage by the march earthquake and tsunami. as much as 12,000 gallons of radioactive material. and some of it may have ended up in the pacific colleges. the -- ocean. the water could have a million times of that radioactive than considered safe. the 80-year-old dump located on bay street and there is a cleanup planned to create a nature park and wildlife

habitat. the city plans to clean up the soil which contains toxins and arsenic. the environmental protection agency is working with east palo alto to safely complete the cleanup effort. a slight drop in gasoline prices reported nationwide, the national average for regular $3.28. that's down 2 cents from last week. but as usual gas here in the bay area costs more. but prices have dropped more than a nickel. >> i think i heard bluk was 2.84. >> let's go to albuquerque. >> yeah. it's still chi why this morning. rosemary will tell us which parts of the bay area could be wake up to frost.

fourteen high-end luxury cars are seriously damaged after a chain-reaction cars in japan. it happened yesterday as a convoy of luxury car owners were driving down the highway. police say the driver of a ferrari tried to save lanes, hit the median and caused the crash with 13 other cars including eight ferraris, three mercedes and a lamborghini. the damage is estimated at $13

were able to bring the port is a standstill. walnut creek police are still looking for two people involved in an attempted high- end purse theft over the weekend. it happened saturday night at the nordstrom department store at broadway plaza. investigators say an oakland man ran out of the store at about 8:30 in the evening with $10,000 worth of purses. the man is also accused of using pepper spray on customers who tried to tackle him. police managed to take that man into custody. they are still looking for his female accomplice and a getaway driver. the mercury news reports that some san jose police officers are apparently coming down with the blue flu. according to the paper, there is a 40% increase in the number of sick days compared to last year. the financially strapped police department has been ordered to

home on russet and 105th avenue. the victim was shot in the chest. the investigators say the shooting may have started with a robbery attempt. 8:02. we have new information regarding the double shooting at a fast-food restaurant. it happened at the burger king parking lot on middlefield road in redwood city. tara mori atr -- tara moriarty just got off the phone with police. what did they tell you? >> reporter: they said this looks like a case of a robbery gone wrong. the two people were you canning into the -- were coming into this shopping center. when someone tried to rob them. police believe one of the victims was shot in the car. one of them was shot outside of the car. and then one of the more serious injured ran into this burger king for help. police say he was shot in the buttocks and leg and he was in critical condition when he was transported to the hospital and underwent surgery. the other victim came walking up as police arrived and he had been shot in the parm.
