year-old toxic waste dump. if all goes according to plan it could soon be a nature park. >> reporter: crews were turning a former toxic dump into a shoreline park. from the 1930s to 1960 this area at the end of bay road was the burn dump. the soil became contaminated. >> heavy metals. asphalt material. pesticide. anything you would find around. >> the federal environmental protection agency and others are funding a plan to cover the toxic soil with clay and fresh dirt. that will make the area safe. >> all that is left are stable metals. by building a layer over that there is no way you will -- >> reporter: hiking and bike
