area hardest hit by the foreclosure crisis and supporters actually came here to this neighborhood to show their support for people who have slipped into foreclosure. we heard from one bus driver who was supposed to be out of her home by the new year. she says her bank, aurora services, had given her the runaround for two years. a church member nearby is also being i victed from his home -- evicted from his home by christmas. they just don't know where to go. >> while you are modifying, the foreclosure clock is ticking. you have people playing games on the phone, husting the papers. >> every month i get a new foreclosure sale date on the house and so it's just incredibly stressful to have to go through this and not know like how much longer i'm gonna be able to stay in the home or where what i'm gonna be able to do. >> reporter: cheers of support could be heard from the small crowd and now the group is headed down to san francisco

city hall to plead their case to the board of supervisors. they say government officials need to step up more on the issue. it's a problem that's affected millions of americans, this foreclosure crisis. and people here say tomorrow, about 60 families who have been affected by foreclosure will show up on the steps of city hall to rally support. we're live in san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, tara. protesters from occupy oakland are taking part as well and they are on the move this afternoon. >> they got bailed out! >> we got soldout! >> the marchers are marching from snow park to downtown. among the marchers are homeowners facing foreclosure. >> we have to be strong in order to come through this. we are just asking for a modification. >> similar occupy rallies are reportedly happening across the country today.

bank of america, meanwhile, has agreed to pay $315 million to settle claims if misled investors try -- to misled investors. the settlement comes as a result of the class-action lawsuit. the plaintiffs aleg that b of a encouraged them to invest m worthless north-backed securities from several subprime lenders. the settlement still requires approval from the judge. the bay area is warming up from the overnight freeze. it's still chilly out there. people are being urged not to burn wood in their fireplace or wood stoves. the air quality district is making the request to prevent this from reaching unhealthy

levels. with the weak economy, copper theft is a greeing problem for the b.a.r.t -- is a growing problem for the b.a.r.t. program. allie rasmus has more. >> reporter: well, it's led to some copper wiring thefts. the most recent one was discovered between 12th street and oakland. it was discovered during a routine inspection. officials found two 20-foot sections of cable that were missing, very much like the one i'm tolding here. it weighs about 3 pounds. i counted 60 copper wires packed inside. now the section where this type of cable was stolen from was on the ground. so not the tracks that one overhead. but it's the third one that's happened since friday. in one of the thefts that happened sunday morning, a train operator actually saw the person on the tracks cutting out the wire. the operator had to stop the

train and that suspect got away. but the cable that was stolen is located right next to the high voltage third rail. >> this is cable that returns power to the power supply after it goes through the train, comes from the third rail and powers the train and comes back to the power supply to complete a circuit. >> the danger is what people most often think about when they think about the b.a.r.t. system is that high voltage. if somebody comes into contact with that when it's energized they will definitely get hurt or killed. more likely killed. there's other equipment that can be dangerous, too. >> and not only is it dangerous for the person stealing the wire, it can affect train service and lead to fires on the b.a.r.t. tracks. but police say they do have a person of interest identified in these three latest copper thefts and hope to make an arrest soon. they are forming a task force

where they will be working with scrap metal yards, recycling places, places that would potentially buy something like this. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. in vallejo, thieves have been stealing copper wiring from city light fixtures and traffic lights leading to traffic problems and costing that city hundreds of thousands of dollars. since may, almost 80 fixtures in the city have had their copper wiring stolen. that's caused traffic lights to malfunction and street lights to go dark. the red cross is helping people who are left out in the cold after an early-morning house fire in oakland. the fire started around 2:00 a.m. at 30th and linden in west oakland. everyone inside escaped safely. but the fire caused major damage. investigators are still looking for the cause. early evidence points to some type of electrical problem. in danville, investigators

are trying to determine what sparked a fire last night that damaged a clothing store on east prospect street. the fire was reported about 8:30 last night at the moda misme clothing store. no one was hurt. the dloelting store is now -- clothing store is now closed but there's no estimate of how much damage was done. today, the san jose city council will decide whether to replace a retirement reform ballot before voters. the city cannot keep up with soaring pension softs -- costs. he's recommending this go through during the 2012 primary presidential election. the council has put off the vote because the city's projected budget deficit is now half the original amount. the lucky supermarket chain is warning customers to check their bank accounts following

the discovery of a widespread credit card fraud scam. someone installed skimmers that record numbers on the self- checkout stands of 23 supermarket stores. so all 23 stores have posted signs warning customers to check their bank states and close their accounts if someone seems wrong. >> the secret service tells me it's the most sphift kuwaited -- sophisticated device they've ever seen in the united states. >> very surprised something like this could happen. >> the company says so far 80 people have reported money taken from their accounts and the amount is in the thousands of the dollars. lucky says it's now checked the card leaders -- card readers at all of the stores. the plastic bag ban could expand by this summer. the current ban includes large grocery stores and pharmacy.

a woman is under arrest after a dramatic crash this morning in walnut creek. she lost control of the ford exped diing and drove it off 680 around 6:30 this morning. it -- expedition around 6:30 this morning. it crashed and overturned and hit five vehicles. according to the chp, no one was seriously injured. the female driver did not have a driver's license. there's no word yet if alcohol or drugs were involved. a restaurant in southern california became a drive-thru by accident. this is newly-released surveillance video of the crash

on friday in miramar, in san diego county. you can see the car crashed you right through the door of the restaurant as customers scrambled to get out of the way. fortunately, there were two minor injuries. the driver told police she stepped on the gas instead of the brakes. oakland police are making the public aware of a reported sexual assault. the victim says the attack happened at 8:20 saturday night in the 1300 block of 91st avenue. the 27-year-old woman says a stranger forced her against a vehicle and sexually assaulted her. she then managed to run away. the victim says the suspect is a african-american man in his 30s. 5'11" 200 pounds, clean-shaven, he wassing a hat, sweat pants and a hooded jacket, all es dressed in black -- all dressed in black. bombings in afghanistan

rights violations. there are reports of an historic settlement in that coal mine disaster last year in west virginia that killed 29 coal miners. an attorney with knowledge of the settlement told "the associated press" the coal mine owner will pay a fine, including $46 million in restitution to the miners' meams. a methane explosion is blamed for the disaster at the upper big branch mine in april of last year. former illinois governor, rod blagojevich is awaiting his sentence in the corruption case that ended his political career. at a sentencing hearing in chicago, the judge said blagojevich was the clear ringleader in the scheme to sell an appointment to president obama's vacated seats in the u.s. senate. blagojevich faces up to ten years in prison. the judge said he would announce his decision tomorrow. a fatal fall from the historic queen mary is under

keep warm. >> we are doing two yoga classes down the street. >> instead of just one? >> yes. >> the forecast warned of freezing overnight. on petaluma boulevard there was some evidence of frost sticking to vehicles. frost is not the only problem for -- frost is not only a problem for people. some plants need to be covered up and most cats and dogs don't mind the cold but there are exceptions. a veterinarian said even pets who live outside need a little protection when temperatures dip in the 30s. we caught up with at the petaluma fire -- automatic up with the petaluma fire department. >> some gas got up in the structure and we had to isolate the utilities. >> reporter: know one was -- no one was hurt this time.

the fire department suggests checking the furnaces for the first time before turning them on in many months. kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. good afternoon. we've thawed out nicely. a bit hazy out there today. we will have plenty of sunshine into and through the afternoon. and that will continue to warm our temperatures. our winds, light. an offshore breeze at sfo, very light, 6 miles an hour as well as fairfield. the ret of us are reporting -- rest of us are reporting calm conditions. widespread mid- to upper 50s. 55 napa. we're going to cool off again in the overnight hours. but we're not expecting to be as cold. at this point, the national weather service has held off on issuing any new advisories when it comes to frost or freezing.

renewed concern about europe today. the s&p downgraded the threat to europe. but the dow is being led up by general electric and american airlines' parent company stock is up 70%. that's up to 72 cent the after amr appointed the chief restructuring officer to oversee the bankruptcy. the dow is up 101. nasdaq is up 4. s&p up 7. stiffer parking fines are being considered in san francisco. the mta governing board is proposing a 25 cent increase for -- 25% increase for double parking fines. that would raise the fine to $100. two other proposals are on the table. one would double the $50 fine for drivers who block traffic.
