out. let's see what the plaza looks like right now. >> reporter: good afternoon. this took a illegal more than three hours for police officers to come in and gain control. take a look here. it looks totally different than it has in weeks past. no protesters whatsoever. last week we were here as they had the option to move to mission street. there are officers out here right now. the occupiers chose not to go last week and today police said it was time for them to leave. >> just before 2:00 this morning, dozens of occupy san francisco protesters were awakened to the sound of police. >> it appeared that group had deteriorated and not only become a health hazard inside but it was becoming a public safety hazard to the outside so the decision was made to clean it up. >> as i was trying the leave,

they wouldn't let me leave. they took everything from me, zip tied my hands and shipped me over to the jail. >> protesters say they were only given five minutes to grab all that you are items and clear the encampment. two hours later officers told the protesters to leave and when they didn't, officers began arresting them. 70 people were taken into custody. >> they grabbed me by the back of my neck and one officer forced my face down in the pavement. another one said, keep talking trash, keep talking trash and they rubbed my face into the pavement and lifted me up and banged me real good on the side of my face. >> that young man was not arrested. all the items left behind by the occupiers can be picked up at the dpw. back live here, there's a group

of police officers monitoring the perimeter of this occupation. they said no one is allowed back in this area. occupy people said they would have an emergency meeting at noon. that's not happened right now. they plan to have another one at 6:00. we'll bring you the very latest. as of right now, the mayor of san francisco is speaking about this incident. >> in fact, the mayor issue add statement this morning following the evictions. the mayor says, quote, we took a measured and balanced approach in good faith to disassemble the camp. the city made a site available to the group but communication with the team designated by occupy sf deteriorated to a point where it was clear that no progress could be made. for the last few months businesses and neighbors have been dealing with the large

occupy sf encampment. some people are glad to see the camp cleared while others are sad to see it go. >> reporter: finally pushed out occupy protesters this morning, the raid left its camp on a cafe nearby. the front window has paint splashed on it and planter boxes were broken. >> this morning it was a mess. our place was like destroyed. >> reporter: the owner says he doesn't believe the encampment drove away business but he's glad to see the tents gone. >> i understand it's a sad situation for many people. but you know, sad thing is it could have done something different. >> reporter: and it wasn't the only business in the area impacted. this bagel shop had all its outside patio furniture pulled into the middle of street this morning by protesters. some were surprised to see if occupiers had been kicked out

and many had mixed feelings. >> it's sad and put the police in a bad position. >> it's very sad. we have problems and people are working hard to correct them. i think it holds the attention of people. >> reporter: some nearby told us they are glad to see the plaza clear again. >> frankly speaking, i am pleased. this again is the freedom of these people and things like this but i think this is much better. >> reporter: crews spent all morning scrubbing down to concrete. the 100-plus tents that used to be set up here are now gone and the plaza is empty. the city plans to keep it that way. >> stay with us for continuing coverage on the occupy san francisco raid and other stories on the occupy protesters around the bay area.

in the last hour, the family of a 1-year-old oakland boy shot in the head last week gaven update on his condition. new at noon, we have a live report from oakland children's hospital. >> reporter: the family says their baby is still fighting and they need everyone's prayers if their son is to make it to his second birthday, just three days after christmas. the family is asking children's hospital of oakland for more time. at an hour ago they came out here, the family pastor, parents as well as the family an friend, clutching some photos of the boy. they say two tests will be run in the near future to determine if he has brain activity and if not, he'll be removed from life- support against his family's wishes. his mother says she won't accept that because her son has shown signs that he's not giving up. >> he's moving his hands a lot.

and then when his dad comes in the room and talks to him, his blood pressure goes all the way up. when he leaves out the room, it goes right back down. i think that's a sign that he's fighting, that it's still possible. >> reporter: the shooting happened last monday night as seen in this video where gunmen opened fire into a parking lot near a liquor store on 7th and willow street. seven people were shot and he was shot in the head. we asked representatives of the hospital about the tests but they say they cannot comment on any patient's condition. two days after the shooting happened, one of the suspects came to this hospital either to visit or accompany another sick child and ran into the family and there was a scuffle. police are not commenting. they say it might jeopardize the investigation. the family says they want to

driver was kill. no other vehicles were involved. the driver has been identified as a 39-year-old modesto man but his name has not been released. an investigation is underway into an accident? san francisco. a car struck a pedestrian onflowen teen street just before 6:00 a.m. the victim was taken to san francisco general hospital. no word yet on their condition. a ribbon cutting ceremony was held this morning for the latest phase in the vasoco road safety improvement project. construction began in may 2010 and was just complete. a one-mile section of the road was widened to accommodate a wider median. they are known for narrow sections that have caused numerous accidents and 16 deaths on that road between 2000 and 2010. the central county cross or

the administration makes a surprise decision over reproductive rights. this morning it was announced girls 16 or younger still need a prescription to buy the plan b morning after pill. the decision rejects a recommendation from the fda. pharmacies were already planning to stock the pills on

their shelves like condoms. it prevents pregnancies if taken early enough. currently on those 17 and older can buy it without a prescription. republican candidate mitt romney is the latest to say that he will not take part in a debate moderated by donald trump later this month. he says he called trump personally and told him he'd not be able to make it. he joins john huntsman and ron paul in declining the debate. so far only rick santorum will be attending. this is rod blagojevich leaving his chicago home this morning before a federal judge sentenced him to 14 years if prison. a jury convicted the 55-year- old of 18 counts of corruption including an attempt to sell the u.s. senate seat vacated

when barack obama became president. blagojevich apologized to the court for what he said were mistakes. blagojevich said his life is in ruins an he must surrender february 15th to serve his sentence and pay a $20,000 fine. there's a chance that a former syracuse university basketball coach accused of child molestation will never stand trial. 55-year-old bernie fine is suspected of sexual abusing three boys in the 1980s. a new york prosecutor announced this morning while he believes the allegations are credible, he can't file charges because the statute of the limitations passed. however, a federal investigation continues. fine denies the allegations but the school fired him last month. right now sheriff's investigators are looking into a wild stunt staged by a tv

show that nearly turned into tragedy. a crew from the discovery channel show myth busters misfire add cannon yesterday at the alameda county bomb range. it flew hundreds of yards, hit a home where a family was sleeping and ricocheted and went through a wall, then hit the roof of another home and finally ended up in a minivan. fortunately no one was hurt. >> very scary thing, went through two homes, could have killed somebody on its way. >> the sheriff's office spoke with the show's producers. they have used the bomb range for experiments for about eight years. >> we will evaluate it but we do appreciate the science that's done on the show and hopefully we can get this squared away and be sure this doesn't happen again. >> according to to sheriff's department, the discovery channel has insurance to take take of damage caused by

incidents like this. just minuting a police found a woman they describe as developmentally disabled. they provided this picture after she was reported missing yesterday afternoon. police say someone found her in their backyard this morning and she appears to be fine but is being taken to the hospital to be checked out. today is the 70th anniversary of the japanese attack on pearl harbor. the bombing of u.s. navy fleet in hawaii took the u.s. into world war ii. more than 2200 americans died in the attack. 120 survivors are expected today at the uss arizona memorial. >> a ceremony was held this morning at coast guard island
