at your weather, hey, steve. 30s and some low clouds and fog, that is not something we have had lately but clouds extend from the north bay to the south bay and it is still cold out there but it will be mostly sunny, highs 50s to near 60 degrees. here is sal. there is a crash 580 westbound on grand avenue that is blocking at least one lane. also the morning commute looks good if you are driving on the mcarthur maze, 6:01 let's go back to the desk. within the last 30 minutes, another protester tried to put up attend at justin herman plaza but police quickly reacted. a little more than 24 hours ago, there was a raid and police insist tents will not be allowed back in. claudine has more on what

happened. claudine? >> reporter: you can see there is a handful of people who are sleeping out here in sleeping bags and there is one gentleman in particular who within the last 30 minutes tried to set up a tent. police, only two of them quickly moved in, they approached the tent, walked up to the man inside and basically made him take it down. we spoke to the man after the conversation took only a few minutes and he tells us what they talked about. >> i said he knows no tents are allowed and i said if he wants to give up the tent he will have to give me the tent and he said he doesn't want to and i said you will have to break it down so he broke it down. >> reporter: they are sleeping on top of it instead of

sleeping in it and there are more people up at the federal reserve building and we walked up there which a couple of blocks away and police tell us before the raid there were 10 people sleeping up there and right now i counted may be 50 to 60 in and around that area. they basically moved from justin herman plaza to up the street and they are in sleeping bags but the question is what happens next. i spoke to the man afterwards, after trying to put up a tent and i said did you know you were not supposed to put up a tent and he said i am just cold and tired and he didn't want to say much. police are pat controlling constantly and they -- patrolling constantly and they will not allow them to put up

tents. how long they will allow them to sleep out with sleeping bags is not known, and we will keep an eye on things, claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. the university will focus on the death of a football player from right here in the bay area. fred some son was a -- fred thompson was a freshman from oakland tech originally from richmond. he played at a game last night when he collapsed. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. this sunday would have been his 20th birthday. they are reporting their family pets have been poisoned. they became sick and were rushed to the hospital after

some areel mitting. -- vomiting. methadone was found in their system and methadone is used to treat heroin addiction. >> i hoping in like this ever happens to anybody else in our neighborhood. >> both pets were in good health according to the owners. the pets were deliberately poisoned and the person responsible could face felony charges. the cuts were due to expire in june but they were supposed to help layoffs. the pay cuts are expected to prevent police layoffs next year. today a review board will plan on inn stalling cell phone antennas. at&t is trying to boost coverage in the city but some

people are concerned the large antennas will be an eyesore. they reviewed the company's plans in august and today at&t is expected to reveal alternative designs it has developed since that summer meeting. the white house will very veal -- reveal a new strategy for fighting home grown terrorism. a live update from our newsroom, showing a new way to deal with violent extremism right here in the u.s. out here in nevada they will try again to recover the bodies of the five bodies from that helicopter crash. that helicopter slammed into a mountain while conducting a tour of the las vegas strip and the hoover dam. it is still not clear what went wrong.

four prisoners are back behind bars this morning. now the riot broke out yesterday afternoon and involved at least 50 prisoners. guards fired rubber bullets and paper spray to get the inmates back under control. time now 6:06, facebook is expected to have a big impact on the roadways. live at the park to tell us how soon you drivers can expect to see arise in the -- a rise in the traffic, good morning lorraine. >> reporter: we took a peak and we could see there were people already working inside. they had a christmas tree up already and with this new plan to memo park here, to you is supposed to be complete by the end of the year and that's when

channel 2 news. checking in on the traffic, how is it, sal? steve has been mentioning the fog and traffic here at the golden gate bridge is foggy, you can't see very much and it is going to be foggy in parts of the bay. traffic is okay, it is a lot more foggy and getting more crowded, there is a crash on the shoulder and it may be affecting the lanes because a car went over the side and when they get this out, traffic will not be blocking the right lane. >> steve, there will be shows at the fillimore, one of our tweeters sent me a note. >> now i have heard one of our viewers watches this. >> yes, lives in marin. >> yes. over in crocket, 8th of a

mile visibility, sal touched on it and we had a dry air mass over us for a while and you get a southerly breeze or westerly breeze and so you get condensation and there is a low cloud deck in the south bay so it is increasing here. now there is a little system and the emphasis is on a little because there is not much and it's falling apart. 28 in napa and fairfield and it is cold. a lot of 30s and you get that damp cold, which is the worst kind. danville and santa rosa, 29 degrees and 31 in montgomery village. 32 in los gatos and palo alto also 32 degrees and there is a

. welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 news, it is now 6:13 and the obama administration is expected to unveil a strategy aimed at battling home grown terrorism. allison has more with that story, allison? >> reporter: pam, this plan would partner police including federal law enforcement with community groups even schools to teach them about extreme terrorism and how to stop it. now from a deadly shooting in arkansas to the massacre at fort hood, officials say home grown terrorism is a growing threat. we are still waiting for more details from the white house this morning but they are

reporting the obama administration will put a training program in place by this spring to recognize radical behavior in its early stages and prevent attacks. until yesterday we learned there have been many home grown plots many targeting military bases. >> this is serious and enduring. >> reporter: a look at training in communities and why it is so controversial. it will be during my next update within the hour, allison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. more bodies of u.s. troops were sent to a landville more than was previously acknowledged. the ashes of at least 274 american troops were dumped at a virginia landfill. that is more than they originally revealed and they were never formally authorized and this ended in 2008.

it was an especially sad funeral service, 1600 bodies were buried yesterday, they were all in a common grave and no family members were there to mourn. every year they conduct this ceremony for the unclaimed, the poor, the homeless and other troubled people. the office stores the remains for two or three years and then sends them to this mass grave. mourning the death of one of their employees crushed to death in a horrifying accident. they got a call from a woman who said she was stuck in an elevator between floors. firefighters said she tried to crawl out of the elevator on her own when it suddenly shifted down and crushed her. several agencies are conducting investigations. flag flag will -- rod blagojevich will have two more months to be with his family

exercising his right to freedom of expression. she was accused of encouraging protesters. thousands have taken to the streets of moscow to protest reports of fraud in sunday's parliament trielection. national reporters report widespread stuffing of the vote count. hillary rodham clinton has criticized it saying russian voters need a full investigation. a mail bomb was addressed to a top banker. it was addressed to frankfurt germany and it was a fullly functional bomb. had the device not been -- the device was spotted before it went off. security has been beefed up at several bank branches around the world including the offices in new york. >> i think it is time to check in on the toll plaza about now.

>> it is, pam, you have learned well and dave, i'm sure you know this is around the time they turn on metering lights and it makes a big difference in traffic. it starts to fill in and that's what is happening right now so if you are driving from the city to oakland you will see a bit of a delay. traffic is moving okay once you get onto the span. let's take a look at interstate 880 oakland and both directions are looking pretty good, northbound and southbound, so anywhere you roam, it will be a nice commute on the freeway for now. and on 580, it is a car that went off the embankment and it may block a lane if they do that. 6:13 it is cold and we have some fog back into the mix and there is no breeze at all so that really helps the fog.

some of the fog reducing visibility, some of the low cloud deck is now starting to fill in and even at fso they are reporting low clouds and right down to 1,000 feet we have not had some fog but the air mass is really dry. it looks like 20s and 30s and 1:45, it is cold. our system will fall apart and after that system disappears, it is apache low -- it is patchy low fog and we will have 50s to near 60 degrees and we'll see an increase in that fog deck and with your weekend always in view it will be foggy and dry. nearly every website is

. good morning, traffic is moving along slowly at the bay bridge plaza before you make it on to the bridge you will see good traffic moving to the city. edison going door to door in the san gabriel valley in los angeles, checking on the last home still without electricity caused by that huge wind storm and they say lights will be back on for everybody by the end of today. santa ana winds knocked out power to thousands of customers. they are back in their home countries and that's after braving the real colds after taking part in the and dark can -- and the antarctica race marathon.

police, what happened claudine? >> reporter: good morning, the strong police presence remains and i want to show you where several police cars have just pulled up. nobody going in within the last 15 minutes but we saw police with riot helmets in hand. really there is only a handful of them here at the foot of market and most people are in sleeping bags, but there have been a couple of attempts to put up tents, one this morning and one within the last 30 minutes or so. police walked up to the plaza and told the gentleman inside he would have to take the tent down and we talked to the lieutenant about that conversation. >> i said he knows no tents are allowed in the park and i said if he wants to give me the

tempt i will accept -- tent i will accept the tenth and he said -- the tempt and i told him to take it down. >> reporter: i asked him why he put up the tent and he said i am tired and i am cold. we found quite a few of them up the street right at the federal reserve building and folks are telling me ten people were there yesterday and today there are 50 to 60 people sleeping on the street. no tents up there as well but lots of sleeping bags and a lot of other stuff with that psuedoencampment there. no tents but you can stay in sleeping bags and how long you can stay in sleeping bags, that is still unclear because at 10:00 a.m. yesterday, they started to enforce the no sit lie down ordinance and it depends on

what type of days. now that police are out here, a little bit more closer to the encampment they seem to becoming out of their sleeping bags and seem to be sitting up and taking notice of the extra police. but again nothing is happening as far as confrontations but we will continue to keep you live right on ktvu channel 2 news. claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. protesters were arrested after refusing to leave the plaza after the 11:00 p.m. curfew according to the sacramento bee. protesters are claiming their right to assemble should not be limited by a curfew. they have treated occupied protesters legally and ethically. now the department has upload dozens of audio video files on

the city's website. one of the videos shows protesters crowding around and bothering a police officer with a baton. and there are transcripts of accusations of excessive force and we will post that on our website www.ktvu.com. oakland city clerk has given them the go ahead to recall mayor jean quan and they have a certain timeframe to qualify the measure for the ball lost.$♪ complicating things, a second group has tried to come out with a petition to recall the major as well. they are looking into whether there can be two at the same time. the parents of hiram

lawrence, jr. are asking for your help. doctors are saying he is now brain dead and should be taken off life support because he will not survive. however his parents want more time and they want a second opinion from another medical team. >> the doctors said he was not going to make it out of surgery. he made it out of surgery and now they are saying he is still not going to make it but he is showing progress. >> so far the hospital has not made any comments about the family's request. hiram lawrence, jr. was in his father's arms while he was shot in the head two weeks ago. supporters of the same sex marriage ban want the court to set aside last year's ruling that declared prop 8 unconstitutional. the judge who made it did not disclose he was in a same sex

long-term relationship. the court will also hear whether audio recordings of that trial should be made public. it is now in the hands of the county board of education. charter supporters are appealing to county trustees after district officials denied their petition. it was a big turnout last night, more than 60 people signed up to speak. charter supporters are vowing to take it all the way to the board of education. if you are looking for a job this morning, wells fargo is hiring. the company is hosting a job fair in santa clara. they are looking for more than 70 people for hiring throughout the bay area. there will be two sessions and the first one will be until 1:00 p.m. this afternoon and the second session will be held from 4:00

let's go back to sal, what are you looking at now, sal? the fog is moving into some of the bridges and this is the bay bridge and you can see it is a little foggy but not foggy enough to be low and it is a little bit of a challenge and some of these areas -- our expert steve paulsen is right there getting ready to tell us about the fog. but the first one -- this is not going to be a problem and all of a sudden we he have it here. put that in the back of your minds, especially in the north bay. perhaps you are going down to the park or perhaps you are going down to your job at facebook but 101 may be closer for you so go ahead and use it, no major problems there.
