they just put it in overnight. you want to drive through the area a little more aware. the lanes are a little different this morning. also the morning commute looks good in san francisco. along northbound 101. let's go back to pam. the toddler wounded in last nights month shootout remains on life support this morning. the child's family is expected to make a very painful decision within the next several hours. ktvu tara moriarty joins us now from children's hospital in oakland. tara. >> reporter: tests done on hiram lawrence confirms he has no brain activity. doctors are going to take him off life support. this has been a difficult choice for the family. time for the family. we spoke to them a couple days ago when they were trying to get children's hospital to give them more time. to keep hiram on life support.

they were hoping these tests part of the process to declare the boy legally dead would show glimmer of hope. when they were finished and parents confronted with their own pediatrician the news was bleak. attorneys have said they have accepted the outcowmen though they are overwhelmed. now hiram would have been two on december 28th. he was shot while in his father's arms in the parking lot of state liquor market store. seven ors were hurt and two people a 16-year-old boy and a 24-year-old woman remain hospitalized in critical but stable condition. that is when men opened gunfire. hiram's father was shot in the hand. police have not arrested anyone in connection with the shooting. they have interviewed and detained five people of interest on unrelated charges. hiram is the second child to be

fatally injured in a shooting this year. occupy protestors will hold a news conference today to discuss their next big move. on monday they plan to shut down the ports up and down the west coast. that includes the port of oakland. however, they won't have the support of the powerful union representing thousands of dock workers. reports from san diego all the way up to vancouver are doing everything possible to make sure it's business as usual on monday. >> we have been working with all of our law enforcement partners at every level to make sure we can do what we can to keep the port open. >> now the goal is to avoid a repeat of last months chaos. this was the scene at the port of oakland. during the november 2nd day of action. thousands of occupy protestors were able to shut down the port

for more than six hours. occupy boston camp remains in tact this morning. coming up in the next 15 minutes why police say they did not move in on those protestors. there are two separate recall petitions. they have until may to collect the almost 20,000 signatures needed to force an election. >> probably right now very easy. oakland is that angry. oakland is a disfunctional city. >> being mayor of oakland is very hard. i heard they were having dig agreements. i'm not surprised. the bottom line is that the city has a lot of important issues. >> a second recall effort is led by greg heartland. he ran against quan last year. oakland raiders have filed

a lawsuit against a beg bay area hamburger chain. the raiders claim nation's giant hamburgers violated its famous raider nation slogan. the billboard says raid a nation. the raiders say that falsely implies they have a partnership with the burger chain. >> i think it's totally absurd that a national football team would bother to sue a small chain like nation. >> i think it's part of business. don't take it personal. it's just business. that's exactly what it is. they have a big investment. and so in these days you have to watch what you do. >> the raiders are looking to take a bite out of nation's bottom line. the team wants to be compensated for trademark infringement. autopsy will be performed on the oregon football player that grew up here in the bay area and died this week.

oregon state police believe 19- year-old fred thompson died from a irregular heartbeat. former teach everies at oakland tech high school praised his hard work on the field and in the classroom. he raised his sat scores to earn a college scholarship. funeral arrangements are still pending. friends and family of a murdered ucsf student will hold a candle light vigil this evening. joe hernandez was beaten to death at a nightclub in january. even though police released survey lens video -- surveillance video the killer is still on the loose. the solano county sheriffs department is leading the search for a missing teenager. they fear 17-year-old christina may have been kidnapped. the teenager vanished yesterday afternoon. she later left a voice mail on a family members phone saying

she was being held hostage by several men. the teenager was last seen daveing a navy blue 1999 olds mobile mini van. california license 4ebs066. police say they don't have a motive yet in the shooting death of a virginia tech police officer. reporter karen is in washington, d.c. this morning as investigators are trying to find out if this officer was specifically targeted. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, pam. you are absolutely right. there are a lot of questions still to be answered about yesterday's shooting at the virginia tech campus. any time you hear reports of a gunman on or near a college campus you sit up and take notice. but particularly when it involves virginia tech. in 2007 the horrific site of a massacre when a gunman killed 33 people and specifically

himself. what did happen is it started as a routine traffic stop. police officers will tell you no traffic stop is routine. it started around 12:15 eastern time on a parking lot on the university campus and went horriblely wrong from there. what ended up happening a university police officer a member of their police force derrick was shot and killed. bow listic evidence linked the gun that shot him with another man on campus. they have not revealed the second identity of the person killed on campus. as we go forward in the investigation, we will hear more details. he was not on campus for the 2007 massacre. he leaves behind a wife, five children, and stepchildren. another interesting fact, pam, is that members of the virginia tech administration including the head of the police force were right here in washington,

d.c. yesterday. they were attending a federal court hearing according to the department of education officials that had to do with that 2007 shooting on the campus that left so many dead. pam, yesterday there was an impromptu vigil to remember officer crouss. there is expected to be another formal vigil this evening. >> before you go. what happens next in the investigation? >> reporter: that is a really good question. there are a lot of questions to be answered today. the campus was on lock down for four hours yesterday while the police on campus and other officials tried to sort through exactly what was going on. hopefully today we will learn the identity of the second man killed in yesterday's incident and hopefully they will be able to piece together what the motive was. >> all right thank you for that update. students at a new hampshire college are being told to stay out of class today.

they are banning firearms on campus. gun right supporters plan to demonstrate at the school today. the school fear properties test tours might -- protestors might bring weapons. they e-mailed the students saying they won't be penalized if they don't show up. the roads have become more dangerous. kraig debro is in san francisco with who is at risk and maybe several reasons why. >> reporter: pam, market street downtown gets a lot of foot traffic. people getting off the bus or bart at this point in the day. then walking to their destination. according to the national highway traffic safety administration last year being a pedestrian got more deadly. the agency says the number of pedestrian deaths in 2010 rose more than 4% over 2009. that increase falls four straight years of decline and t14% drop from the year 2000 to

here and there. i would say for you to hay void 880 for now and use 580 or get on the freeway after high street. don't go anywhere near high street for now. we will keep on top of this and let you know what is going on. it does look like perhaps they didn't finish in time and we have a bigger backup. let's move along and take a look at westbound bay bridge. that traffic looks good come into the toll plaza. this morning if you are driving in san jose northbound 280 traffic that looks good getting up to highway 17. filling in for steve it's rosemary. good morning, to you. another bone chiller out there. freezing in many cases and a little bit of fog out there. areas in the north bay. take it easy if it does settle at any point we could have a little bit of ice mixture. calm conditions santa rosa light breeze. easterly wind at san jose. we are looking at 30 degrees right now napa. 35 i should say in napa.

morning during mornings on two. police have arrested the suspected gunman in the black friday shooting. 29-year-old watson surrounderred after a six hour standoff with police outside an east oakland home. police say a tip led them to the house. two weeks ago a 21-year-old man was shot in an early morning robbery attempt. they are looking for two other men believed to be involved in that shooting. a fourth man was tackled and arrested at the scene. san francisco police are look for a man they are calling a person of interest in two sexual assaults in the mission district. police have released this frame of video captured by a surveillance camera. one woman was attacked yesterday. the other last month. both were aassaulted -- both were assaulted and robbed.

new surveillance video is raising questions about an assault victim. there are three clips. one shows strauss-kahn checking out of the new york hotel. another shows his accuser shortly there after reenacting the alleged attack to her supervisors. a third clip which shows two hotel staffers doing some kind of dance has caused some to speculate that strauss-kahn was set up. not everyone agrees. >> that could have been they found out they won the football pool or they found out the yankees made a big trade. >> prosecutors dropped criminal charges in the case. strauss-kahn claims they had consensual sex. federal prosecutors want to send barry bonds to prison. the frank giant was convicted

in april of obstructing a grand jury decking investigation. bonds defense lawyers are asking that he gets probation and possibly home confinement. police have not evicted occupy boston protestors. police have told protestors even though the mayor set the deadline he did not specify when the camp be shut down. no arrests were made. protestors are between 100 and 150 people are living in the boston camp. dozens of police officers have cleared out the occupy santa cruz camp. they gave campers four minutes to clear out early yesterday morning. at least six people were arrested. 20 tents were dismantled. park officials say they careened up eight guns. 4:50 is the time.
