dreamed up skiing on a bike. >> it looks like a modified way that i could really hurt myself. >> speaking of which, there's crazy times ahead on today's "right this minute"! we begin our show on this monday with a story that nick found for us, right? >> the fastest way off a cruise ship besides jumping into the water is to call the coast guard. one guy who was on the norwegian gem started feeling ill. went to the ship's doctor and the doctor called the coast guard. the guy started to go into shock and they needed to treat him as soon as possible. this man, 38 years old, had to be medivac'd off the deck of the ship this is a thermal vision camera off a jayhawk ship that the coast guard uses for its rescues. they were 75 miles off the coast of virginia. you see them drop the line down.

at the bottom of the line is one of the glow sticks on the rescue driver on deck can find the line in the dark quickly and easily. >> you can see all the other passengers, you can see them under the glass atrium looking up at the helicopter. >> he was flown to the new hanover regional center in wilmington, north carolina and is listed in stable condition. guys, i've said it before on the show, that monkeys and apes freak me out. they're so scary because they're so weirdly strong. this video is another reason why. this is in malaysia at a zoo and a gibbon escape. this thing is angry and it's attacking a small child. >> oh. >> it quickly turns scary and the girl starts screaming. >> we saw this video on my metro tv from columbia, south carolina. this 5-year-old girl was bit on the ankle. but another visitor to the zoo,

a 3-year-old boy was violently attacked. this gibbon took a chunk out of the boy's leg. and the boy is in the hospital in critical condition and they're trying to figure out a way that his leg will not have to be amputated. he also suffered some facial injuries. in the attack. now they're not exactly shoe hour the gibbon escaped. this thing is 33 pounds. but it's got to be really, really strong. now gibbons, which are apes, are apparently very territorial. and i also read that they don't necessarily attack unless they are provoked or feel threatened. and you can imagine the situation like this. that this thing out of its cage probably did feel a little threatened by all the visitors to the zoo. >> i don't think people realize how dangerous this animal is. >> some people aren't high-tailing it out of there as fast as i thought they would. they've already seen the gibbon attack the little girl. the guy is shooting it is a pretty brave dude to continue to record this.

ski area, which is just north of fairbanks, alaska, and these guys have bikes that they've rigged up with skis. >> so they've taken the tires off? >> yes. >> and put skis on. >> yes. >> there are skis on a bicycle. >> you've never seen anything like it? >> no. >> this is a modified way that i could really hurt myself. >> these guys are going over some jumps. they catch some air. and they get up to 42 miles per hour going down this -- >> ooh. >> oh, whoa. >> i wanted to find out more. we have mike stansfield, "right this minute." git who has this camera mounted to his ski bike. okay, mi. how did you come upwith this it? >> this idea first came off of my friend dorian. i saw dorian's ski bike and i was like, that looks like fun. so i spent about 40 hours designing this bike and about 60 hours building the adapters for

the skis. >> how do you go up the ski lift and do people look at you funny? >> you're getting quite a bit of attention that day. the moose mountain area, instead of a ski lift, they have about four or five buses that go, that shuttle from the top to the bottom. i would be nervous putting this bike on a ski lift. it weighs about 45 pounds. >> just to be clear now are you guys the very first guys to do something like this? or have there been ski bikes out before? >> there's been ski bikes around before. actually the first one was built probably over 100 years ago over in europe. it was a doctor who had to get to his patients and he was getting tired of walking. so he built the ski bike kind of deal out of wood. >> so not only do you build your own bike, you also know the history of the bike? >> he's legit. >> he's legit. caught in russia.

the day. >> good for her. >> it's his mom. he was pulled from the jaws of a pit bull. >> this little one just happened to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time. >> thjust call her the deer rescuer, saving one fawn at a time. and when it's dog versus cat, dog wins, right? >> this one might surprise you. >> oh, boy. i'm embarrassed for him. we begin this half hour of "right this minute" with a story that christian found for us, give us the details. >> firefighters have to fight fires all the time. but it gets a little tricky when the fire is at their own home. >> when i opened this door, the smoke was, the smoke was already down here. >> this is firefighter earl borden. he lives in the new orleans area. his house caught on fire while he was taking a shower. fortunately, his family wasn't

there. but he lost his entire home to the fire. he was taking a shower, so he didn't realize what was going on outside, until he came out and saw that there was smoke coming out from under the door. so he immediately went into firefighter mode. he dropped to the ground, crawled out the first window he would crawl out of. unfortunately, he really couldn't save the house and they lost the entire home. after their cat, who wouldn't stop playing with their christmas tree, knocked the tree over, caused a spark in the tree. and that's where they believe the fire started. >> whoa. >> that stinks, right around the holiday season. >> this is especially sad, because during hurricane katrina, they also lost their entire home to the hurricane. so this is yet another blow to his family. >> it's dispossession, we're not going to get that back. my family was hurt, that's the main part.

i have some surveillance video to show you guys of the an attack. and the fallout from this video might surprise you the most. this is in philadelphia, we're seeing two young men walking on the street. these men are actually following this man in the hat. the man in the hat is a 65-year-old vietnamese man. and he was going on his daily 3:00 p.m. walk. these guys stalk him for a number of blocks. and watch what happens next. the two men run up to the 65-year-old man, punch him in the face and then run away. >> punch him for the sake of punching him? >> that's what it looks like. the man suffered some serious injuries, he had injuries to his head, his face, his jaw, he lost some teeth. now a witness to the attack said the two attackers were laughing as they approached the 65-year-old man. and after the attack as you see them running away in this video, they were cracking up. the surveillance video hit the

news in philadelphia. this was wednesday of last week. of course they asked for any tips. thursday, one of the mothers of these boys called and turned her son in to the police. >> good for her. >> 19-year-old sam cave and 16-year-old suspect has been arrested and are facing aggravated assault charges. it was the mother of the 16-year-old suspect who turned both of the boys in. and the mother of the 19-year-old suspect told the news station 6 abc in philadelphia, that she feels terrible. >> i really, really would like to go see the guy in the hospital and apologize, let him know how sorry i am for the stupid act of violence. i am jealous of jordan sparks, because she's doing something that i always wanted to do. and that's go on an uso tour. she's in kuwait, and they sang a little "i'll be home for christmas" for her.

[ cheers and applause ] we've had several videos on the show of fawn rescues, right? >> uh-huh. >> unfortunately, there are occasions when little baby fawns lose their mommies to hunters, to road accidents. to different things. fortunately, there are organizations like the kindred spirits fawn rescue in northern california. >> so cute. look at that little guy. >> so cute. >> this one that you see here was attacked by a pit bull.he's where he was attacked. this is an organization that helps between 60 to 80 fauns every single year.

they're 100% volunteer-based. so talk to as you little bit more about it we have the president of kindred spirits fawn rescue, diane nicholas. can you tell us a story about many so of the fawns that you've rescued? >> we had one little one that came in and actually was in a field where there were horses. and the horses were attacking the fawn. luckily, they had not kicked the fawn's head. that's one of the key things that is the hardest to work with and we have probably 50% success rates. >> can you elaborate a little bit more on the fawn that was attacked by the pit bull? >> it was in the neighborhood, up in an area called christian valley. apparently the pit bull got out. there's a whole herd of deer that travel the area and this little one just happened to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time. and the pit bulls came after it. and this woman, she has a presence of mind to call a neighbor and say, call kindred spirits. so i was on the phone as they were trying to move this little fawn away from the dogs. we worked on this little guy
