the driver of a manny van lost control and crashed into a church last night. a holiday event at the church had just ended and the children had already left. no one was hurt. police say there is lot of damage to the back of the church. in san jose the line of people in need stretched around the building there for the beginning the of food and toy give away. ktvu's robert handa shows us the longer lines and the changes faces in the lines. >> reporter: it is one of the largest food and toy gave away programs. and this year there is a noticeable change in the people looking for help. >> reporter: this year they are setting a painful record.

they have just now started the escalator and allowed fans to get back on. they are now going back inside the stadium. for a while the fans couldn't get in because the power was out. there was a big delay. people wondering what is going on. he said he wasn't sure why it went out. he was on a loud speaker trying to tell everybody to remain calm. there were no problems but you could imagine what it would be like inside the stadium, 68,000 fans and all of a sudden the entire stadium goes dark, the score boards went out, everything went dark. first thing that jumped into my find was the 1989 quake. we will try to figure out what happened here. looks like the game will start here and everything is a go. so far so good. hope the power stays on. live, ken wayne, ktvu channel 2

we begin with developing news. an update on news we brought you an hour go. the lights are now back on at candlestick park in san francisco. the power throughout the stadium went out 25 minutes before the kickoff between the 49ers and the steelers. a ktvu producer was in the parking lot when the lights went out. we don't have that picture. basically everything thing went bark. a spokesperson tells us transformers failed outside the stadium and that engineers switched the back up power supply. 60,000 fans were in the stadium at that time and they were in total darkness but remained calm till the lights returned. that drew cheers from all of the fans. a te
