attempted murder charges for tossing her son out of a second story window. lupita cortez through the boy out and then jumped out after him. the mother broke bones in both of her feet. she faces charges of child abuse. a police spokesperson says she has a history of mental illness. a small earthquake in the bay area. the quake was centered near san leandro. there are no reports of damage or injuries. the costo oil spill happened 4 years ago but it is still having an impact on the bay. and another cool one tonight. not as cold as the previous ones and we have a change in the five-day forecast, maybe some stringles. take a look at it -- sprinkles.

friday was the busiest day with 134,000 passengers. having fog delayed flights this morning. lot of flights were delayed by 30 minutes or so. and at san jose, one flight had to devert to reno because of fog. and oakland there were no delays reported. nights have been cold but our chief meteorologist bill martin says we are in for a change. >> the fog at sfo this morning was a fog off the water, more like a summer time fog, even though it was chilly. overnight lows were cold. what i have right now, here is the bridge, a wind censor, live wind censor. winds out of the west at 6 miles per hour. that's wind throw blowing from the ocean to the land. that's where the fog came from. chilly but that will warm us

morning. a car hit a fire hydrant. firefighters had to shut off the water. the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. later he went to jail on dui. the second crash happened this morning. the driver slammed his car into a light pole and street sign. it triggered the air bags. the driver was also taken into custody on dui. what could be the largest plastic bag ban is looming in san jose. it takes effect next week but ktvu's eric rasmussen found out, not everyone is ready for it. >> reporter: a familiar sound at the supermarket in san jose that is about to go away. the store is among thousands of retailers effected by a ban on single use plastic bags

starting next week. it also means big adjustments for customers. >> i use them for trash and carrying things around. i will have to stock up on garbage bags. >> reporter: they voted to ban them in 2009 out of concern for the environment. this year city counsel members made it even tougher, requiring all retailers to follow it. fines for those who don't go as high as a thousand dollars a day. the city said nobody should be caught off guard by the law. they are posting signs. come january 1, these bags are history. >> big change here. yeah for the people. >> reporter: this manager expects most of the customers will bring their own bags. but there is another option. >> pay for the paper ones. >> will you get your own? >> i have to get them now.

>> reporter: in san jose, eric rasmussen, ktvu channel 2 news. according to the environmental group save the bay, a half dozen other cities passed plastic bag bands. san francisco led the way. since there santa clara, sunny val, marine county and fairfax approved plastic bag bans and dozens of other areidating similar playoffs. >> san jose has tips to help shoppers. keep reusable bags by the door, in your car or by your keys and keep feddable bags. run bags through the washer or wiping them. and return any plastic bags to the store to be recycles. plenty of shoppers hit the sales early. >> mark down to 50% off.

the church. the church fed 5,000 people for christmas eve and christmas day miles. 500 volunteers helped. they provide mealalize year long. last year it served 1 million meals in san francisco. st. anthonys has also helped. but this year their dining haul will be -- hall will be torn down. >> the donated food arrives daily and thousands of served i this is the routine every day. in fact, it is busier today. >> yesterday there was food all over. today we are one of the few serving food. >> reporter: he says donations will continue strong through the end of the year as some
