of san leandro. crews are responding to a water- main break not far from 880 but at some point water is flooding the streets, trying to get this under control, crews are working to repair that water- main and it is still unclear when the repairs will be complete. there is a new occupied camp in oakland and there are already more than a dozen tents. joining us from what is now called the cyprus triangle, paul? >> reporter: i want to take you and show you exactly what is going on. you see that green fencing? it is enclosed right there on that vacant lot. here is a bird's eye view which shows about 14 tents inside and

they say they are in for the long hall and they have an established paramedic on the scene. they plan to expand into a more secure stable place. >> they are finding -- when they find a good place they can establish themselves and continue to grow. >> reporter: this is the second occupied camp since the main end can'tment was -- encampment was shut down last month. they were at a home which was in default. objecting buyers first -- occupiers first claimed they had permission but the only knowner wanted -- homeowner wanted them off the land. they plan on making this a bigger and larger encampment than we have seen in the past,

paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. this morning feds roll investigators -- federal investigators will arrive on a seen at an area near highway 4. lorraine blanco joins us with more information about the polite and the passenger. >> reporter: the pilot knew he was in trouble and you can still see where the plane made an emergency landing in the field. here is a look at the after math from news chopper 2. you can see the small plane crash landed a little away from highway 4. they moved the passenger and pilot to safety and they both suffered moderate to minor injuries. we are waiting to hear who was the boy lot or passenger involved in the crash. the north runway here is closed at the field for this

investigation and the ntsb national transportation safety board is expected out here this morning. lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 news. well it was also a close call out of sacramento airport, a southwest plane was grounded after two of its tires popped during take off. we will have a live report coming up at 6:15. officers are still looking for suspects in an overnight shooting. investigators tell us a woman was shot and wounded and she is expected to survive. it is still not clear what went on. a suspected gang member killing a high school student just weeks before graduation. franklin junior was shot in east oakland last may. prosecutors say the gunman

michael hurtsman belonged to arrival gang. he faces some 60 years to life in prison. it has been a dry concern and drought problems are continuing to rise. this time last year the sierra was packed under a massive snow pack and it has spared us a water shortage but if the dry spell continues it could be a different story in a month or two. >> contribution is always a good thing for customers to be aware of... >> they say it is always a good idea to practice good water habits because we never know what the weather will bring. hopefully we will not have to worry about another drought. it could all change and bay

one of them received $7,500. and several people got hurt, it happened just before sugar land was about to perform. last month, -- last month four family members of those killed filed a suit against the band. and near walnut creek, right next to the broadway shopping center, crews worked throughout and finished that road work at 9:00 last night. a design flaw is being blamed for the water-main break shooting water into the air over thanksgiving weekend. an engineer failed to include a crucial joint which includes hoping pipelines break.

. thousands of mourners turned out for the funeral procession of korean leader kim jong il. kim jong un walked alongside his father's hearse. kim jong il died on december 17th of a heart attack. tomorrow a national memorial service will be held. iran is threatening to shut down a very important waterway if the u.s. continues to press for increased sanctions. iran is conducting ten days in the persian gulf as 20 to 40% of the world's oil passes through that straight. they want to put sanctions to ask them not to pursue a

where any of the schools -- at any of the schools he works. deputies shot and killed a pit bull that charged at them during a search. it happened at 6:45 on bethel island. deputies were searching for a man who had been harassing people, officers say the dog that was shot and killed belonged to the suspect and int custody. let's check in with tara on the traffic. we have something, there you can see it happened at leisure town road and we have a car that swerved to miss a big- rig and hit a ditch so there may be some delays in and around fairfield. at the bay bridge toll plaza, the metering lights should be going on soon, give yourself a

little extra time because of back up. traffic on the right-hand side as you make your way towards foster sister and on the opposite side, let's go back to steve. we have a system coming under which is not going to do much and most of the rain stays well to the north. there have been some decent totals and if anything falls it could be something light. again the cloud cover is all we are going to get. due to 30s and 40s 37 is still cold. there will be some heavy duty rain towards the pacific northwest but for us we are too far south and there is not enough jetstreamwise to generate for us. there could be some and i guess

6:15 this morning. you can see the video of the plane being towed off and the crew had to come from oakland and change two tires on the main left-handing gear with comes to a halt. it is quickly done off the left side of the plane. 30 plus crews, they allowed it after the incident happened and they were eventually rerouted to seattle where this flight was destined for but not after some tense moments. >> we started shaking really bad. >> big bang, the plane was kind of -- >> reporter: then again -- >> reporter: then again that plane was towed off the runway and they sprayed water on the

wheels after heat generated. they were concerned about a fire starting so they put water on the wheels making sure everything was okay. but again live out here at the airport this morning, the runway reopened and emergency crews are here as well, so bring things back to normal, back to you. ford will unveil the newest fusion and some say it is striking. ford said they could sell 240,000 of the 2011 models and that could be a record up 50% when the fusion was produced. there may be a shortage because of the toyota camrys after the

everybody ran outside to see what happened and that's when one man realized the danger might not be over. >> i kept smelling gas and hearing gas so i grabbed a fire pit with the help of a couple of people helped me pull it. >> worker say leaking gas was getting too close to a nearby pro pain tank. the officer said he was on his way to a nearby call when the car crashed into the restaurant. a handful of cars were crashed into but nobody was injured. several incidents for allegedly driving drunk with children inside the car, all three were pulled over. one suspect was under the influence of cocaine. the children in each case was handed over to their mothers.

one of them a 12-year-old girl said she hurt her head when the car swerved. governor jerry brown sat down with the press yesterday for an end of the year review and a look ahead. he gave himself a passing grade calling his first year as governor a success. >> we cut the budget in half in one year and this coming year that will again dominate certainly the first six months. >> governor brown is expected to unveil his new budget and unveil a tax initiative next month. he said schools will be in good straights in the next two to three years while the government should be in better shape than when he started. eight players are going to the pro ball more than any

joining us on ktvu channel 2 news, dave clark does have the morning off. >> and i am pam cook, time now is 6:30. the new encampment, there are already more than a dozen tents there and paul chambers is also there and it is now being called the cyprus triangle, paul? >> reporter: take a look behind me, you can see it is enclosed in that vacant lot and that's where the encampment is. the encampment has 14 tents inside and the group says they are in for the long hall, they have a food table and paramedic on-site. they want to stay positive and grow into a healthy way and this lot will be ground zero. >> we want to establish a base

where it is a staging area. it is a good stable place. this is the -- >> reporter: this is the first encampment since the other one was shut down. they moved to a home which was in default. they claimed they had permission to stay there but the owner notified police they wanted them out of there and that area was quickly evacuated. he says the state and city must do everything possible to keep the busy port open. that would include calling in a mutual aid and as many as necessary. occupied protesters shut down the port two times and mayor jean quan said she may be unable to keep the port open

during protests. out of san leandro, crews are responding to a water-main break on leonard drive and william street not far from interstate 880. i want to give you a live picture from the scene and water up to two feet was gushing from a pipe and some streets are flooded and we just learned several homes are without water. we have 50 or 60 people here and when they wake up they will wake up and want to brush their teeth. >> crews are working to shut off the water and once it is done they still have to make repairs on the broken pipe. the work is expected to take several hours. we have more developing news this time out of sacramento where emergency vehicles have just surrounded a southwest airplane. we took a live report just a few minutes ago and at the end

of this live shot we saw emergency vehicles starting to surround one of the vehicles on the ground. it happened just feet from where the southwest plane was towed and that plane was involved where two of its tires popped just moments ago when that airport reopened. again emergency vehicles surrounding the plane and this is just in to the ktvu channel 2 news room. and again we just learned the runway is shut down once again. reopening just about ten minutes ago after that incident where the southwest plane popped two of its tires, the airport reopened its runway 6:00 this morning and now the airport has shut down the airport yet again after this developing story at the sacramento airport. of course we will update you on this story as soon as we get more information. they arrived on the scene

of a small plane crash in concord. it happened yesterday afternoon not far from highway 4. lorraine blanco joins us from the crash scene, lorraine? >> reporter: good morning and the plane is registered to a man out of pleasant hill. both passenger and pilot are expected to be okay this morning. you can see the crash yards from the runway. you can see they were forced to make an emergency landing just moments after take off. the pilot declared an emergency and tried to land the plane but they crashed just off the runway into some gravel and grass. authorities say their injuries are non-life threatening. ntsb national transportation safety board is expected to examine the damage and the field is closed for

investigation. reporting live lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 news. there is a reward offered for any information on the attempted kidnapping of a nine- year-old where a man walked up to him and tried to lure him away with candy. when the boy said no the man grabbed him by the arm. the boy managed to get away and tell his parents what happened. the suspect is described as an african-american man in his 30s, 5-foot 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, mustache, dirty shoes at the time. and george will release new details today about a case involving a workplace accident that killed a pregnant woman four years ago. 26-year-old marguerite was crushed to death at digital

press and two years ago they accused them of involuntary man slaughter and labor code violations. yesterday a judge ruled they could be held criminally responsible. gilroy police hope this surveillance video will help them find this man at the wal- mart. it happened at 8:00 at night. the store was busy with holiday shoppers and police say the robber walked up to the cashier with a note demanded money and walked away with cash. the man you are looking for is wearing a black giant's hat and a black reebok jacket. giants will fight to keep their territory rights, mcgowan still owns a steak in the team and he is tuned into the issue and he said it would be amazing

still running a traffic break down west north of santa clara. construction crews need to pick up some signs so it may take a little bit of time. let's take a live look at 27 and as you make your way towards sunnyville no delays to speak of. same story on the right-hand side of your screen towards downtown and hayward. finely at the bay bridge toll plaza, it seems to have dissipated so it seems metering lights may not have to go on at all. here is steve. we have a little bit of a pattern change, at least the lows are going down patterns ar favorable for the pacific northwest. they need it but it's not favorable for us. we are not seeing much but it may be a sign of things to

come. the next 5 to 10 days do not look promising except for friday. we have a jetstream staying to the north. instead of diving down this way it is heading off to the east. they have to hang their hat on something. warmer lows due to cloud cover, it is still 30s but not in the santa clara valley. they are losing a lot of its support and there could be some light rain in northern sacramento but there has been some rain so at least somebody is getting some rain. upper 30s to mid-40s and mid-37 should cover the spread. see all the energy in seattle and portland and if you have travel plans for the end of the year it will bring the rain there just not here.

these are live pictures from the scene. the pipe burst around 4:00 this morning and right now 45 to 50 homes are without water and the repairs are expected to take several hours. they will arrive on the scene of a small plane crash which happened at the airport. passenger and pilot suffered minor injuries and it is still not clear what caused the plane to crash shortly after take off. -- shortly after take off. flights were delayed more than two hours yesterday and la guardia experienced delays due to the passing storm. it looks like things are much better this morning. the calender may lead to more patients this new year's eve in the emergency room. last year when new year's eve fell on a friday, they

experienced 50% more patients and they expect big numbers this year as well since new year's eve falls on a saturday. they expect it will be the busiest night all year with a flood of patients coming in, typical injuries alcohol poisoning, car accidents and fights. preparations are well underway and yesterday we were at the w hotel where 600 guests are expected to attend a new year's eve party. tickets are selling faster at $150 per person and the increase is better for business. they want to bring in 2012 with a little more of a bang. >> other san francisco locations are preparing for the big night and they are

unless we get some rain on friday. safest san francisco ever for 1996, it was an incredibly dry air and the system slicing through is giving us a lot of high clouds but not much else. crescent city has two thirds to three quarters of an inch of rain and there will be hefty tolls in the area of seattle. fairfield, napa, upper 30s and 40s redwood city san jose, systems stay to the north there is a lot of moisture there. maybe friday, i think the north bay will be in line partly cloudy and partly hazy skies we

california reports 1,300 hate crimes last year and 88 occurred in san francisco. an assistant district attorney said most were against the gay community but this means people are talking about hate crimes and reporting them more here. in other states, most victims are afraid to come forward. we have emergency repair work coming in at san leandro, you have emergency repair work going on elsewhere as well? >> yes, in oakland, cal trans is replacing barrels on the off ramp and it is causing some delays at the coliseum, you can see the flashing lights and that's northbound traffic as you make your way towards downtown. those traffic barrels a lot of times are in front of the concrete barriers that form exits and this is supposed to happen until 8:00 this morning

so be aware of that and they are experiencing some delays. we have no traffic is what i wanted to tell you clear sailing into san francisco and in san rafael 101, it is a little slow going southbound portion of the city. let's go to steve. we have partly cloudy skies some rain to the north but it does not look promising, light drizzle as we head to thursday night and friday but i don't see any beneficial rain here. warmer lows even though they are still in the 30s due to some of these higher clouds and it will be a mild afternoon for some. you can get a look at some of those clouds right there. there has been some rain in arcadia and crescent city. 30s and 40s showing up in red wood city. there is no support here.
