continues now. good morning, thank you for joining us on friday, december 30th i'm pam cook. >> and good morning, i'm mmm-- and i'm mike mibach. dave clark has the day off. we are going to catch just a tail end of the system. it will bring us a little bit of drizzle this morning. we are light rain reported in areas. storm tracker two having a little bit of hard time picking it up. i will tell you it's a soggy start out there this morning. we'll talk more about what you can expect for your friday coming up in a few moments. here's a look at the bay bridge incline where we had heavy fog advisory in effect. still foggy but that advisory has been lifted. so nice going into san francisco this morning.

and last but not least we have the san mateo bridge where we are also experiencing foggy conditions. the same story of dumbarton and bay bridges. coming up we'll tell you about accidents in the east bay. let's head back to the desk. occupy protestors are taking their cause to new heights instead of camping out they are sitting in. ktvu noelle walker is in downtown with the new occupation. noelle. >> reporter: yeah your worst night of sleep has to be better than the people that are sleeping up in that tree. as we take you around to the other side. you can get a better look in at them. they went back up in the trees last night. they came down after the protest. now they have regrouped and going to be up there for the duration. protestors set up basically tents back up at frank ogawa plaza or a tent on the edge of

the plaza. they set it up and police promptly took that tent down. protestors have not gone very far. this morning they are on the other side of frank ogawa plaza. about two dozen of them are in sleeping bags. they say they are not sleeping because technically they are not supposed to be sleeping there. there are sleeping bags that dot the other side of frank ogawa plaza. they have a food and first aid station set up there. >> since quan is still having her police beer good day going out and doing this, we are going to come out in full force. >> reporter: meaning we could see frank ogawa plaza occupied again? is that your goal? >> it never stopped being occupied. >> reporter: so occupy oakland says that their efforts last night to set up a tent were part of a 24 hour vigil in support of a dozen occupiers being arrested for essentially squatting at a foreclosed home

sharks fan attacked her at hp pavilion on wednesday night. kraig debro is joining us with reaction from the sharks organization. >> reporter: police not saying much this morning. of course this involves a juvenile so they are very limited in what they can say in the first place. we do know the woman accused in this case has not been arrested. the girl did suffer concussion but the fan was not arrested and she was conscious when going to the hospital. take a look at this picture. this is a picture of 16-year- old maggie and 18-year-old sister maya. the two just went to the sharks game on wednesday night. the picture comes courtesy of the marin independent journal. two nights ago the sisters from discovery bay attended that sharks bay. they got the tickets for christmas. they were there to root for vancouver canucks. both were wearing canuck jerseys and of course that caught the eye of sharks fans.

one imparticular. a woman that appeared to be drunk and in her 40s harassed them throughout the game and swore at them. following a sharks goal the woman sitting behind the two girls leapt in the air. when she came down her hand hit maggie in the back of the head. maggie suffered a concussion. she was taken to an ambulance. she was conscious while going to the hospital. the woman actually the sharks issued a statement which read in part the woman that hit maggie says the contact was accidental and that other fans do not report seeing any contact between the new parties. in addition to maggie being from canada being from vancouver she had a brain tumor four years ago and players with the canucks went to her hospital bed to visit her. she knew she was such a big fan. quite an experience for her. so right now we are trying to get ahold of the family. i called them. no message so far. reporting live in san jose kraig debro ktvu channel 2

news. this morning republican presidential candidates are fanning out across iowa with the caucuses four days away. i want to give you a live picture of a mitt romney event. former governor will be joined by current new jersey governor chris christy for a rally. we'll have the latest poll results and how the candidates are stepping up their attacks on each other. police are investigating if armed robberies at mcdonald restaurants are related or copy cats. two young men wearing dark masks robbed the mcdonalds on spring roads wednesday night. the night before police arrested three men in connection with a similar armed robbery at a mcdonalds on lincoln road east. a suspect lead police on a high speed chase. officers from american canyon pursued a car driving recklessly at 9:00 last night.

police followed that vehicle on to interstate 880. two other carps crashed into each other. now the individual was eventually arrested and no one was hurt during the chase. bay area police want motorists to know they have plenty of alternatives other than driving home drunk this new years eve. public transit agencies will run later than normal. muni, sam trans will be free and bart and ac transits are not free but they will offer extended services. local cab services will offer complimentary rides. and aaa will give rides if you call and say i need a tipsy tow. motorists had too much to drink will get a free tow. statistics show alcohol related crashes represent 40% of all deaths on the road and that is why templars towing is joining mothers against drunk driving

to offer free tows on weekends. right now it is 6:08. rain is i guess graving problems for drivers in some areas. let's check in with tara. >> it's slick out there. it's causing spinouts and road hazards. let's take a look at your maps. right here this is a traffic collision 24 westbound at the caldecott tunnel. we have a spinout and we have something wet on the roadway here. it's very slippery. i don't know if it's oil or not. this is 580 eastbound. we also have a solo vehicle spinout 101 northbound. make sure you drive slowly out there. in san francisco it's extremely foggy. all of the fog advisories for the bay bridges in the bay area we should say the dumbarton and san mateo bridge have been lifted. expect for the fog advisory in the pacifica area which is in

effect on highway 101. finally this is a look at the richmond san rafael bridge which looks gorgeous. there is no fog. 6:another let's check in with rosemary. it is a moist one out there. somewhere the fog, we have a little bit -- we have the fog, we have a little bit of light drizzle. not a lot popping up on storm tracker two. we will back it up and show you why. the main point of this system it will slide just a little south throughout today. the front will pull through and with will be clipped by just the tail end. so a few sprinkles still will remain in the forecast although again we are not seeing a whole lot. tara mentioned it. it's enough to slow you down. mostly cloudy skies in store for today. because of all the clouds out there we're a lot warmer. anywhere from 5-10 degrees above yesterday. it's the back end of this band of clouds here where the front lies. and again we will get just the bottom edge. so that is what we have in store for your friday 37 we

custody. three others are dead after new raids in afghanistan. now the raids took place earlier this week in the bara pray since. one of the dead commanders include a senior and insurgent leader. they continue to be a source of controversy with president karzai. and reportedly the obama administration is considering transferring to afghan custody a senior commander being held at guantanamo bay. senior officials are upset about the handover. the transfer is being considered as a good will gesture. intended to continue peace negotiations between the afghan government and taliban. a new poll shows former massachusetts governor mitt romney and ron paul running neck and neck leading into next weeks iowa caucuses. as alison burns reports from our washington, d.c. newsroom another high profile candidate

jersey governor chris christy. the romney campaign has new momentum. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns ktvu channel 2 news. an attorney in virginia has filed a lawsuit to have newt gingrich's name placed on the state's primary ballot. the virginia republican party determined gingrich's campaign failed to turn in the required 10,000 signatures. the attorney filing the lawsuit contends many of the signatures supporting gingrich were inproperly excluded. only two of the republican candidates mitt romney and ron paul were found eligible for virginia's march 6th primary. we are learning newdetails about the sexual harassment allegations against mark hurd. the san jose news obtained a

two people were killed in a 40- car pileup. that crash happened around 4:00 a.m. yesterday. nearly two dozen people were also sent to the hospital. new orleans police say poor visibility is to blame. most likely a combination of fog and smoke from a nearby marsh fire. >> all of a sudden i came over the hill and red lights. it was so foggy i couldn't tell if it was stop. it was just jammed up. >> the interstate was closed for more than 12 hours while investigators tried to piece together what happened. the expansion of the panama canal could hurt west coast ports including oakland. the port of oakland rely on asian imports. the project to widen and deepen the panama canal will be completed in 2014. it will allow huge freighters to bypass west coast ports and head directly to terminals on the gulf and east coast. it will allow ships to carry

wednesday night. >> reporter: teenage girl suffered a concussion pretty serious event but doesn't rise to the level of bryan's story. still the girl did have a concussion. police did not put the woman accused of this under arrest. she is not been tarkenton custody. at least not now. they are continuing an investigation. we do have a picture from the marin independent journal of maggie and her sister. her 18-year-old sister maya. that is maggie son right she -- maggie she is 16 years old. they had tickets because they got them for a christmas present. they wanted to see their favorite team play. the girls are from vancouver and now they have moved down to discovery bay. they get there there is a woman sitting behind them that they say is harassing them. it was easy to tell they were

kraig debro. we are following overnight news from oakland. right now police are looking for suspects in a drive-by shooting. that happened shortly before 2:00 a.m.. investigators say bullets from a passing car hit an 18-year- old man driving another car. the victim drove a short distance to seventh and market where he stumbled out on the street. he's listed in stable condition. it's not clear who lead up to that gunfire. as 2011 comes to a close, the bay area three largest cities have matched or exceeded homicide totals of the year before. oakland has had 102 homicides this year. that compares to 92 in 2010. san francisco recorded 50 homicides so far this year which matches last years total. and san jose the city has seen the highest number of homicides in 15 years with 38. that number does not include two people killed at san jose state. registered sex offender suspected of killing his former girlfriend a dozen years ago is

behind bars this morning. prosecutors have decided there is finally enough evidence to file murder charges against raymond wong. he is accused of killing college student alice sin. the 40-year-old man wept before a judge after living for years in china. he showed no emotion as he was formerly charged with the young woman's murder in 1991. >> he is a very cocky. somebody i would consider arrogant individual. i believe for years he's thought he gotten away with this. >> the body of the college student was found in a remote dirt road in nevada. police say the murder case against wong relied mostly on

occupiers the occupy protestors tried to -- occupiers say they are doing a 24 hour vigil in solidarity with a dozen protestors that were arrested yesterday for occupying a foreclosed home. that was at tenth street in oakland. now back here live you can see frank ogawa plaza the plaza itself is essentially empty with the exception of a few rats we have seen scurrying back and forth. so we have sleeping bags on one side and then the tree protestors up here. we can see two of them up in the trees here today. the last time they were in the tree for 30 days before police brought them down on the day or on the night of the last port protestors. but they say now they will use experienced tree sitters to occupy the tree again. and they have a number of people who can rotate in and out as people get tired of sitting and sleeping in a tree.

reporting live in oakland noelle walker. a federal judge is blocked part of california's landmark global warming law. the 2006 law mandate cleaner low carbon fuels to reduce dependence on petroleum products. the judge says it unfairly favors bio fuels in california. out of state producers are applauding the ruling. advocates say they will appeal and ask for a stay of that ruling. american idol winner kelly clarkson the first american idol is facing backlash for her endorsement. it's a tweet that set off that controversy. that story coming up on mornings on 2 at 7:15. new this morning san francisco japan town is losing a landmark grocery store. this weekend the market will close its doors after doing business on post street for more than 100 years. we took this video just a short time ago. the family run business was
