hospital with moderate to minor injuries. and a few hours later, at about 9:15 this morning, another muni lrv hit a vehicle and this involved a kay ingleside train hitting a car at the interception of -- intersection of third and king street. muni runs shuttle along the line until service resumed. >> police investigating a young hockey fan's claim she was attacked at a shark's game. the 16-year-old seen here on the left said she suffered a concussion after a woman hit her in the head during wednesday night's game. she now lives in the bay area and is from vancouver and was wearing a canucks jersey at the time. the woman accused of attacking her said she accidentally hit the girl while celebrating a sharks score. no one has been arrested. and a man who told police he drank 13 boars before get -- beers before getting into his car the day before christmas was arraigned for a deadly felony hit-and-run. watch martinez pleaded not guilty to the hit-and-run and

other charges in the accident that killed a man near petrero avenue and ceasar chavez street at 8:30 saturday morning. the 23-year-old is being held on $1 million bail. prosecutors say that martinez took off from the scene and then reported his car was stolen. he was arrested at his home a few days later. the highway patrol is investigating a deadly crash this morning in the south bay. authorities say just after 6:00 a.m., a truck went off of the roadway on a connector ramp between interstate 880 and highway 237 in milpitas. the coroner has not released the identity of the person who died by the -- but the chp said he was a 52-year-old man from san jose. a 24-year-old man was rescued this morning from a chute at a landfill. he works at the landfill there. before 8:00 a.m., he got it stuck in the loading part of the chute that inserts material for the landfill. more than 20 rescuers extricated him. he was taken to the hospital and is said to be in stable condition. finally, some wet weather today. not enough to help fill the

rain buckets but still a welcome sight, unless you happen to be driving. patty lee is here now and shows us what happened today on highway 101. >> reporter: you can tell how dense the fog is by looking behind me. you can't see the golden gate bridge. the visibility here is a half a mile. the roads are wet and that combination, frank, wreaked havoc across the bay area. a six-car accident this afternoon. turned northbound lanes on highway 101 into a parking lot as drivers trying to brake collided instead. >> and this is consistently wet. the first collision, we have it back up and people were not able to stop in time. >> reporter: routes are slick and from steady drizzle. the visibility dropped to a quarter mile causing traffic accidents everywhere. leave all, the state is experiencing a dry spell. >> it's been a horrible skier, which is e roning, considering last year was one of the best on record.

investigators. >> it's not often we lose a member here in the sheriff's office in the line of duty, it's a tragedy when it happens. in this case, it's a tragic accident. >> reporter: she's the mother of a 12-year-old son and was a nine-year veteran. the crash happened late wednesday night in livermore. the 25-year-old ran multiple redlights before crashing into a mini van. the police say the man was not licensed to ride a motorcycle. and state fish and game officers accused them of illegally poaching fish and crab. the department said that the two men, both of san jose, have been on the game warden's radar for more than a year. they're accused of catching sturgeon and dungeness crab with a recreation fishing license and illegally selling their catch on the black market.

as it stands today, the crab season along the mendocino, humboldt, and del norte coast won't begin until january 15th. the state fish and game officials say the crab in those waters won't be big enough to harvest for two more weeks. when the season begins, the crab boats from oregon and washington state are expected to flood the area competing with smaller boats from here this bay area. and we saw some moisture and calling it rain. up and telling me it's not quite rain, right? >> and that is in between the drizzle and rain. and basically, a few clouds and heavy amounts of drizzle and some spotty showers that i didn't see across parts of the region. can you see the amounts not to impress but a few hundred of an inch and in mountain view, .0 few, one of the highest to find. san jose, .02 and san francisco, barely measurable at .01. we know it's been a very dry december until today. we have three days of

measurable rainfall in san francisco and they're showing up here on the 11th, 12th, and the 15th. the .01 and that means this is shaping up to be the third dryest december in san francisco and they go back to the 1800s and so far, san francisco taking up .13 inches and we won't add anymore rainfall to the rain gauges the next 24 hours. maybe spotty drizzle. the current temperature is updated. the temperatures right now, santa rosa, 54 degrees. reporting partly cloudy skies. watch out for the dense fog coast side along the golden gate bridge, currently 54; mountain view, the 60s and mild there and san jose in the upper 50s, about 58 and with that satellite and radar system, we're not expecting much but that produced a cloud cover and some pockets of drizzle or some light showers and this is heading out of town. as we expand, you can see the

storm track and that is developing to our north and we can tell you, as a result, it will be dry into the weekend on saturday and into sunday. that will translate to 30s in santa rosa, napa around 36 and to 38 degrees out to fairfield. san jose, about 43 and san francisco in the upper 40s. watch out, again, some areas of dense fog coast side and around the bay to start out your saturday. if you are heading to lake tahoe, check out blue canyon. they're reporting light rain and a current temperature around 40 degrees. here's the plan this weekend for saturday and partly to mostly cloudy skies, on the mild side to the sierra in the upper 40s and on sunday, partly cloudy skies, the temperatures starting out in the 20 degrees mark. the readings back up into the mid- to upper 40s and coming up, i will show you where it is the next 12 to 24 hours and i will break out the warmest day of the weekend and the new

>> firefighters in los angeles are hoping surveillance video will surface to help them catch an arsonist who set 19 car fires in hollywood and west hollywood overnight. again, coming in after midnight, it didn't stop until 4:15 in the morning. the residents scramble to safety as the intense flames spread to hopes and apartment buildings. there is a $35,000 award being

offered to information leading to an arrest. a former west hollywood home of rocker jim morrisson was one of the first torched overnight. it started in the fourth car parked outside of the home and quickly spread to the house itself. a firefighter was injured in a fall from the ladder while balling the fire. the house was built in 1922, the inspiration for his song "love street." the number of military funerals performed by the national guard rose by 10%. the increase actually is not due to service members dieing in iraq or afghanistan. the military said that it's actually the accelerated number of deaths of world war ei veterans and the growing awareness by families that they're entitled to a military funeral. the national guard performed at funerals for approximately 136,000 military veterans this year while another 90,000 funerals were performed by active military units. north korea's new leader officially controls his country's military. kim jong-un has become the great leader, controlling a

abruptly went dark in 2009. now, the parkway's owner signed a new 21-year lease uptown at a former glass factory. they want to turn the area into an arts district. the parkway is expected to open in late summer or early fall. and it's possible some big changes could be coming to college football bowl games, including a possible playoff system. the washington d.c. reporter scott mcfarland talked exclusively to the head of the bowl championship series and tells us the bcs is now looking at dozens of dif rip proposals. >> reporter: the executive tells me they're considering 40 to 50 different proposals to change the post season system. possibly including a play-off to determine the champion. the current bowl system includes dozens of games all on tv at stadiums nationwide. and one game means anything. the championship. the two participants like voters and a computer system, wildly unpopular with any fans.

the executive in charge of the bowl championship series revealed the college presidents will consider changes to it next month. >> and i expect there will be 40 or 50 ideas. they'll roll-up there sees and hey will come up with what is best for the game. >> reporter: the u.s. house is considering a new law and requiring football change to a play-off system in the u.s. justice department is investigating the system to, too, the bcs said, potentially for violation of antio trust law. they favor a handful of schools, most public colleges have no chance of playing for a title and feeling the pressure from government to bcs spent a quarter of a million lobbying washington this year alone. >> frankly, we think the government has higher priorities and legislating the post season of college football. >> it's political football, college football had a presence in washington, d.c., for many years. they're spending more on lobbying in this current year

sunday. here's our forecast model showing you, some overcast busting tomorrow morning. not a lot here and i suspect there will be some patchy, dense fog to start out saturday morning around the bay and for someone in the enlap valleys and the afternoon hours, partly cloudy skies, a few my clouds can approach the region and that is reflected in the forecast. partly cloudy, temperatures will be talking about the low 60s for tomorrow afternoon. and this is a look at some of the highs. santa rosa around 63 and san francisco at 59. san jose, topping out at 64 and livermore, 62 degrees and for the new year's eve festivities, the calendar approaching december 31st. i'm expecting the patchy fogs around the coast and bay and by midnight to the low 40s. the extended forecast, the weekend in vow and you will notice the temperatures warm up a little bit for sunday.
