has sharp teeth and will bite if provoked and could cause a serious infect. the zeal take the monkey back no questions asked. >> i don't care why they did it. i want the monkey back. >> reporter: the zoo closed the zoo monkey exhibit this afternoon to permanently repair the mesh fencing and hope to have it back open next week. live from san francisco. this afternoon, police arrested 10 occupy protestors during a chaotic afternoon in downtown oakland. >> let them go! let them go! >> reporter: oakland police say things got out of hand when police arrived with -- at the plaza at 2:30. the witnesses say that officers were trying to remove a man who was tree sitting. after several arrests, the crowd followed police on the 16th street. that is where all crews saw a driver getting verbally abusive with protestors for blocking traffic. the police say one person will be charged with with assault in

that confrontation. earlier, we talked to an obby oakland activist who spent the night in the tree at the plaza. they decided to occupy the tree because police would have a harder time removing hep. the protestors say they intend to keep up the occupation. and stocks ended the final trading day of the year on a down note. the dow jones closed down 69 points to 12,217. the nasdaq fell 8 to 2,605; however, the longer view of the year shows the dow gained 640 points for an increase of 5 1/2%. in 2010, the -- excuse me, in 2011, the tech-heavy nasdaq dropped 47 points just under 2% and remarkably, the s&p500 index ended exactly the same as it started the year. it was also a mixed bag this year for the housing and job vacar has analysis and projects for the upcoming year.

military veteran. the news crew was a block away covering the funeral of a young homicide victim when they heard four gun shots ring out at 82nd avenue near outlook avenue. it happened after 10:20 this morning. someone came up and opened fire on the two victims as they were sitting in an suv. >> and as far as the suspects were looking for one or possibly two suspects at this time, it's still unclear. >> police tell us the victim's injuries don't appear to be life threatening and there is no indication the shooting is related to the funeral. today, the family of the young homicide victim said goodbye and took cold front from a final act of generosity on. [ singing ] amazing grace. >> 23-year-old charles butler jr. was looking forward to his first assignmen with the merchant marines when he was shot and killed three days before christmas. butler's liver went to a fellow of the church member who was

gravely ill, his pancreas and kidthy saved another man's life. butler's family said knowing he helps save lives makes dealing with his death easier. san jose police are looking into another alleged case of fan violence. the 16-year-old maggie harder of discovery bay on the left, was at the shark's game with her sister on wednesday routeing for the vancouver canucks. she tells the "mercury news" a woman hit her in the head celebrating a shark's goal and causing a mild concussion. the teen had surgery four years ago to remove a brain tumor. the sharks said witnesses say the contact appeared to be accidental. a turlock police dispatcher driving to work this morning struck and killed a crime scene investigator the stanislaus investigator said she was at the scene of the drive by shooting when she was hit at 6:30 a.m. it's being called a tragic accident. and marry loved her job and

loved serving the community. the community loved her. >> she was getting out of the car when she was hit. the driver is cooperating and appears to be driving under the speed limit. he has a 12-year-old son. and it was a rough morning for muni. the transit agency had two accidents that happened hours a part and before 6, a muni vehicle slammed into the driver's side of the san francisco police car in the intersection of third and 22nd. two officers, a muni driver and passenger were all hurt. all four were taken to hospitals and they should all be okay. and after 9er another train was hit. this is at the intersection of third and king. no one was hurt in that crash and no cause on either accident just yet. there was some light rain in the bay area and while it was not a gully washer, it did cause problems. ktvus patty has more on how this is campenning the new year's eve plans. >> reporter: drizzling the past

children will start the new year with the new home. david stevenson is live in san francisco with a unusual place here offering upativelyerary homes for the family. jason in. >> reporter: got you, that is right. we got an exclusive tour inside the closed-down convent as they prepare to reopen it for homeless mothers. it's been vacant for five years. it's about to become a home again for women. homeless mothers and children. >> this is phenomenal, rare that you get an opportunity like this. >> reporter: catholic charities cyo is rushing to refurbish the building, adding beds and cribs for 36 women and children. the agency this month received a $955,000 grant from sales force.com ceo mark beneoff and his wife lynn to help house some of san francisco's estimated 250 homeless families. catholic charities quickly moved to -- worked to move the convent from the parish. the first four of 12 families set to move in here on tuesday.

into early saturday morning. and, once again, we're going to have patchy dense fog, partly to mostly cloudy skies and temperatures will be noticeably cooler. coolest like, especially for the inland valleys back down and starting on saturday morning in the 30s. for this weekend, the high pressure rebuilds and has the dry weather pattern, the patchy morning fog again and back up into the lower 60s for tomorrow and the warmest locations approaching the mid-60s, especially on sunday. and this is our forecast model, not aggressive with the overcast for tomorrow morning and i expect patchy fog especially to the eplan valleys starting on saturday. for the most part, partly cloudy skies expected into the afternoon hours. and temperatures for tomorrow, a touch warmer than today's highs. that means santa rosa, 63; hayward, lower 60s as well and san francisco in the upper 50s
