a triple homicide trial is beginning in san francisco. how this case is also part of a debate over immigration policies. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. the long-awaited triple murder trial of edwin ramos is underway. the illegal immigrant is accused of fatally shooting tony bologna and his two sons nearly four years ago. allie rasmus is live to explain

what is happening in court today. allie? >> reporter: what's happening now is the very early stages of the case. the attorneys in the case tell us there are as many as 1300 potential jurors in the pool and they started to whittle down the pool this morning. when we got here at 9:00 a.m., some were waiting to clear the security. the first of the jurors for this case entered this morning. another group is coming in this afternoon. once they are selected, they will decide the fate of edwin ramos. he faces three counts of murder for the 2008 shootings of tony bologna, his 20-year-old son michael and his 16-year-old son mathew were shot and killed in 2008. ramos was charged in the killing the -- killles. prosecutors say he shot the three mistaking them for a gun

rival. ramos was a minor but he was not turned over to immigration. san francisco has changed that policy. >> this case not only impacted the victim's family but also had a tremendous impact on the community. i think many of you know there were a lot of emotions that were brought out as a result of this case. we want to make sure we bring justice, not only for the family but for the community. >> reporter: the jury selection process, an attorney told us, could take three to four weeks, again, because of the high- profile nature of this case. during the trial they are expected to call more than 100 witnesses to testify. so the trial itself could go on for months. live in san francisco, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you, allie. authorities in contra costa county announced this morning

they are investigating a homicide in bay point. deputies responded to a call of a wounded man at a home on amrose avenue about 9:45 last night. the victim, 22-year-old maurice murray, was pronounced dead at the scene. an autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death. anyone with information is being asked to call the c cck county sheriff's office -- the contra costa county sheriff's office. oakland police started a search after a chase ensured -- ensued. when he refused to pull over, the chase began. >> off the freeway, ban back on -- back on city streets.

the suspect fled from the vehicle. we subsequently took him into custody with the use of our o.p.d. canine. >> saves say the -- officers say the suspect was taken into custody with no further incident. san francisco airport officials say arriving flights were delayed and hour and a half this morning due to the fog. air traffic flow control began around 8:00 a.m. and is scheduled to remain in effect until 4:00 if the fog continue to the linger. mineta and oakland re-- reported no delays. fog advisories were issued for the bay bridge and the golden gate bridges. an ambulance on a way to a medical call got into an accident this morning sending a paramedic an two others to the hospital. it happened shortly before 8:00 a.m. on geary boulevard and spruce in the laurel heights

neighborhood. the fire department said the ambulance had its sirens on when it was hit. the paramedics sitting object passenger side was taken to a hospital to be val waited -- to be evaluated. an a.c. transit driver is recovering from injuries suffered in an accident last night. the bus suffered a bit of damage to the rear wheel area while the car had its front end smashed up. the accident happened at seminary and international boulevard in oakland. >> police say it appears one of the drivers -- in oakland. police say it appears one of the drivers ran a red light. one of the occupants was treat for minor injuries. a pedestrian was struck in menlo park last night. this morning, the coroner's office told ktvu it could not release the woman's name because her family had not been most varied. a caltrain spokesperson says it appears to have been a suicide.

they spent the holidays in hawaii. president obama returns to politics -- returns to washington. today a disabled man is facing eviction and foreclosure from his home of 26 years. leonard wilson refinanced his home a few years ago to pay for a new roof. now he's in foreclosure and faces eviction as early as today. wilson has sued the lender for fraud because his signature is not on some of the documents. he says he's ready if sheriff deputies arrive to remove him. >> i'm gonna stand behind that door and tell them they gotta pull me out of here. if i sit outside, they have to take this wheelchair and sit me in it, in the cold with no place to go. >> an attorney for the lender says hmc tried to modify the loan but that wilson does not have enough win um -- income.

hmc said he could move into an apartment in the same building. automatic wear main break that caused a mess in downtown berkeley last night is still a mystery. it took more than six hours for crews to remare -- repair a six- inch main that broke last night at 5:00. this is last night as water gushed down the street. bun merchant said he lost $5,000 worth of vintable rock posters and memorabilia when water poured into a basement storage area. the cause of the break is under investigation. >> we have so many times of pipe line. sometimes it's earth movement. sometimes it's age of the pipe. >> water surface was resored about midnight. east bay mud says crew also have to come back to fix the buckled sidewalk. right now a know survey is underway to determine how much of a snowpack is in the sierra. the water content will be well

below normal. this is the first snow survey of the season that's being condition ducted by the department of water resources. current electronic readings show levels at only 24% of normal. the snow survey is expected to wrap up in just about 30 minutes. near half moon bay, organizers of the mavericks invitationals to see if the conditions are ripe to start the competition. a public meeting is scheduled for thursday to discuss how spectators can watch the big wave contest for the first time. the beach is slated to be closed in an effort to avoid a repeat of what happened when a large wave surged many spectators and they were injured. as you might imagine, we
