after he failed a field sobriety test. the highway patrol says it gave him that test right after he landed his plane here at petaluma airport. the chp says it was flying this patrol plane when the two officers spotted a lane flying recklessly. >> he didn't roll all the way over, but rolled inverted, rolled back. rolled inverted, did it three times. >> reporter: the plane is an aero-trek, similar to this one. at times, the plane was as low as 50 feet off the ground, dangerously close to freeway traffic. >> we're very fortunate that he didn't cause any crashes on the roadway. >> reporter: this pilot says he spotted the same plane yesterday. >> normally, you will see guys doing safety turns. this guy was kind of all over the place random. >> reporter: the chp followed

a family in concord was awarred $1,000 from the mount diablo school district after claiming a school bus dropped off a young girl in the wrong location. the district doesn't want to pay. patty lee tells us, why they say it's a matter of principle. >> reporter: 6-year-old isabel rides the school bus nearly every day, she's friendly and outgoing. her parents claim the post traumatic stress disorder isabel suffers. >> when the school claims, we don't know where isabel is, that made my heart stop. >> reporter: isabel went missing for 45 minutes after a substitute bus driver dropped her off alone at an unknown location. >> a man and a woman helped me. i wanted to cry.

part of a marketing team, but he wanted to return home. someone brought him to the san jose bus station, he reportedly got into a confrontation and ran off. leaving behind his belongings and medication. he is described at 6'1", weighing about 145 pounds. fewer californians are getting health insurance from employers compared to this time laste. for those who do get healthcare the price of that coverage has gone up. that's the finding by a nonprofit survey. researchers say premiums for employer health insurance plans have risen 153% since 2002. the portion offering coverage dropped to 63%. tickets to the first san francisco 49ers playoff game in years are still available, but they will cost you.

it was a wild ride early this morning for a man in fresno. his car flew onto the top of an apartment building. investigators say they think the driver missed a sharp turn, then hit a curve. the car landed on top of the building. the driver is suspected of stealing that car, he broke his leg. the family living in the building was not hurt. officials with the reno air race say it will be back this year. the head of the event says a panel of experts will meet to ensure the safety of the event. the national transportation safety board has scheduled a hearing next week to look into the safety of air races in general. tickets to the event in reno are on sale. 20 pilots have died in the reno air races since the event began 47 years ago.

a judge in contra costa county today ordered a 23-year- old man to stand trial for three sex crimes that took place in walnut creek. he's accused of rape and two sexual assaults. you may remember the string of attacks that took place at the park regency apartment complex. if convicted on all of the charges, he could be sentenced to life in prison. news of the world tonight, in southern brazil, heavy rains and flooding have left at least seven people dead and more deaths are expected. the rains also triggered mudslides one wiped out a bus station, killing two taxi drivers who were parked there. in syria, arab league observers toured today, to see if the military has withdrawn as promised. they accused the asad government of staging these tours. there is no sign the

antigovernment protesters are backing down. another 12 were reportedly killed today. in japan, tens of thousands of people are making annual pilgrimage to a shrine in tokyo. more than a half million are expected this week. they're not praying just for their own prosperity, but japan's as well. biologists and engineers say leaping lizards are teaching them a thing or two about stability. the secret they say is in the tail motion. research found lizards swing their tails to help prevent them from stumbling. a tiny robotic car, they added a tail to it, now they can see how to adjust the robot's tail to keep it upright. this could lead to a far more

it should all be green. >> reporter: the lack of hay has left her crop thin and short. >> if we lose the grass in the hills, we're going to have to cut the herd back. >> reporter: she says already high beef prices could ultimately go higher. some are taking the unusual step to water their crop. >> i've been doing this over 40 years, and this is the worst year i've seen in my life. >> reporter: for the first time ever, this farmer tried unsuccessfully to irrigate his feel with a water truck. he showed us dry brown fields county and says there's no way for him at this point to recover the $75,000 he spent planting this crop. >> even if it rained tomorrow, some of this stuff is dead, as you can see. it's gone. >> reporter: he says this crop is a loss, and simply too expensive to replant. the cattle rancher says she doesn't need a lot of rain, she would be happy with a half inch

every few weeks. the high price of feed is also behind the cost of in the jump of organic milk. the cost has gone up significantly. farmers are feeding their cows less, and that means the cows produce less milk. all of this comes as the demand for organic milk is rising, even though it costs more than conventional milk. after a dismal 2011, shares in netflix jumped today on wall street. the 4th quarter earnings report shows subscribers watched more than 2 billion hours of online content. a day after being warned that shares may be dropped from the stock market, kodak moved closer to bankruptcy. when that news was reported by the wall street journal

yesterday, their stock dropped 28% closing at 47 cents a share. they're trying to sell some of its patents to raise cash, but so far can't find any takers. on broader market stocks closed just about where they opened. the dow industrials opened up 21 points. the nasdaq was flat. fears of european debt were countered by strong auto sales. it has been a dry pattern, and it continues to be a dry pattern. as we go into this week and most likely into next week as well. with high pressure owning us, we're dealing with valley fog in the morning. some clouds will creep in tomorrow, and you'll have hazy sunshine. temperatures today were quite warm. tomorrow will be cooler of the high clouds coming in off the pacific. january has been dry, and will continue to be dry. most likely as we go through these first couple of weeks.

would typically mean a very big storm out in the pacific that would impact us. this year that high pressure is so strong, it's bumping the systems north. the swell is coming underneath, and we're just getting waves and mild temperatures. above average temperatures for january. below average rainfall. we're about 33, 34% of average for most bay area cities on average. not looking too good. this time of year, when you do stage like this, the numbers, it really starts to compound itself. when you're 35% in december, it's not huge. but the first two weeks in january, and we're at 35% of average, that's a bad sign. the bay area clearly in view, it's clear there's no rain in our area. enjoy the nice weather, it has been very unusual. and we're all long time residents of this place. this is very unusual. i can't remember a pattern like

this. i've seen bits and pieces of patterns like this, but not this persistent, and not out in the long rage. it is kind of strange. >> i guess enjoy it because it's here. biologists say a camera set up on a remote trail may have taken a picture of the first gray wolf to visit northern california in almost 90 years. this was taken in november in the forest east of butte falls, oregon. at that time, gps data put the gray wolf in the same area as the camera. now showing the wolf is in california. wildlife experts aren't sure if it will stay in california or head back to oregon. why is san francisco's zoo reluctant to hand over the reward money for banana sam?
