sea quickly. >> reporter: warning signs are already posted where wave as attempting visitors to get closer. at 6:00, more on the big waves and including how it will effect boaters. robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco ocean beach the waves are expected to be high as well. crews working nearby to shore up a wall worry it could impact their project. our chief meteorologist bill martin has been tracking the swells as they head towards the bay area. you say the waves are big but getting bigger? >> yeah. shots from hawaii last night, the swell came through the islands, 40 feet over there day before yesterday. those swells take a couple days to get here. they will arrive tonight. they are just showing up now. 14-foot swells here. 14 feet in 15 second intervals.

the biggest swell will be here by early tomorrow morning and that is when we could see 30- foot waves. my concern is in the morning, 9:00 a.m., there is a 6.2 high tide. that sabeefy high tide. you com-- that is a beefy high tide. the great highway, just about here, this is where they are having the trouble, the lake and right here is where the most problems are. there could be issues there. may might have to close the great highway. today, 15 feet. by friday they come up into 25 feet, even bigger. erosion concerns and the rip currents nasty. so high surf advisory goes into effect. i will be back and we will talk about your forecast ask the surf as well. -- and the surf as well.

the organizers of the maverick surfing contest are plan agameting agameting to discuss crowd control. the founder regained control of the competition and is proposing a plan to keep spectators off the beach. the meeting starts at 6:00. the organizers also plan to hold opening ceremonies tomorrow for the surf contest. and the public is invited to join as they paddle out at 2:00 tomorrow morning. it is important to mention this, this is not the first day of competition. that will be announced 24 hours in advance. >> san jose police are investigating a bank robbery that happened at the wells
