being set. allie? >> reporter: we are on redwood boulevard. this is where one of those was set. you can see the fire was set right next to a brick wall and it separates the streets from home and the other grass fires were set in the hills above sylvia lane. another residential area. all together a dozen fires set between 9:30 last night and 3:30 this morning. fire investigators and nevada police say all the signs point to arson. >> they have a number of officers that have been patrolling the area. they have been up in the hills and out on the street looking for the suspect. now the battalion chief will be back in the area to continue the arson investigation. we have also contacted the police this morning. we are waiting to hear back about their part. when i talked to their dispatchers, they said all the officers were very busy right

now trying to fine the people responsible pore this. >> allie rasmus, ktvu news. protestors gathered at the plaza in an anti repression march to the police station. this is video of a starbucks near eighth and broadway that was vandalized. >> this is video of one of our ktvu news vans which was also vandalized. they pulled the cables and drew symbols on the side of the truck. one of the tires was also slashed. the protest that was marked by occupy oakland. it was to condemn the behavior over the past week. officers were stationed at several street corners towards police headquarters. we caught up with them who said this is a different group of protestors than the one

fighting foreclosures and positively impact the community. >> they are trying to provoke violence the last few weeks and they haven't gotten much attention. if they don't get much attention. they go away. >> when they arrived at the station, there were injuries to protestors including broken bones. >> this is in fremon. , 7:30 last night -- fremont . it lost control and then went down in an embankment. the driver of the van was taken to the hospital. passenger died at the scene. alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. a bicyclist was struck by a car overnight. this is an apparent hit and run, it happened at midnight right along the muni tracks.

they were taken to san francisco general. his condition is unknown. no information on the driver has been released. this morning people in arizona and across the country are remembering the shooting rampage in tucson. a gunman killed six people and injured 13 others including gabrielle giffords who was shot in the head. this is where it happened. she has been there for the first time since it happened. several other events are being held today to honor the people killed in the shooting spree. the family of gabe zimmerman held a number of events. he was one of six people who died in the shooting. he was an aide to gabrielle giffords. this week a hiking trail was named in his honor. the event was up lifting. >> this is a day for everybody who lost someone, to celebrate

their life and celebrate joy. alleged gunman jarrod lee loughner is diagnosed with sis friendia and ruled not -- sis friendia. and not -- schizophrenia. and not able to stand trial. giffords is also scheduled to attend a candle site vigil tonight. there will be a vigil here. it will begin tonight at 6:30 in the yerba buea gardens. ed lee will be sworn in for a full term in office. the inauguration ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. former mayor willie brown and diane feinstein are expected to attend. he is going to serve out the rest of the term.

he won the vote with 60%. and he became the mayers mayor with chinese descent in san francisco. this comes at a time when this man is being investigated for an event on new year's eve. they have gathered evidence for the out going supervisor's wife. the district says mirkarimi has not decided whether to press charges. he is scheduled to be sworn in at 2:00 this afternoon. they arrested a man for a string of sexual assaults. he is 32-year-old man. he is charged with a long list of crimes including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and rape. >> a tip led them to dosier. the suspect has attacked and robbed three women along

24th street. a petaluma woman is in jail trying to kidnap her ex-boyfriend. she arranged for a mutual friend to pick up the man friday night. espinoza was hiding in the back seat of the car and once he got in, she locked the door and started attacking him. he got out and reported the incident to police. she is being held on a $100,000 bail. dry conditions and windy weather are increasing fire danger in parts of northern california. the want to show you what it looked like yesterday afternoon. the national weather service said low humidity and decreasing wind could make for dangerous conditions in case of a fire. good morning to you. that fire danger is going to be lessening throughout the afternoon. they are going to begin to die down. they are still gusting pretty strong from anywhere 30 to 40 miles an hour.

barge. but the the supplies in the city are running low. both of the ships are said to arrive in nome tomorrow or tuesday. off the coast of new zealand. a cargo ship has split into two and raising new concerns of a possible oil spill. when the ship grounded in october, more than a thousand tons of fuel spilled into the ocean killing see birds. and nearly 400 tons of oil remain on board. this is the worse maritime environmental disaster in new zealand's history. >> time now is 715 p. there are reports that iran has begun uranium enrichment at a new site. they say the enrichment is being done at a well protected underground facility. it is at the facility built deep inside a mountain to protect the project from any aerial attacks. u.s. has accused iran of

. more than 100 firefighters attacked this fire. there are reports that part of the structure collapsed and no firefighters were injured. it took an hour to get it under control the cause is still under investigation. >> the cause of a large brushfire in solano county is being investigated. nine people were on the island but the coast guard helped everyone evacuate safely. firefighters say they let the fire burn because of the strong wind and lack of vehicle access. >> i haven't seen wind like this out here. gale force wind or hurricane winds. >> no structures were threatened. a 22-year-old california man is being hailed as a hero. it is not the first time. this is video for southern california convenience store.

there was no wind and the fires could have easily spread. about a dozen fires set overnight. most of them in the hillside here behind us. this is sylvia lane behind the residential area where there is a couple hundred homes, the hillside is where most of the grass fires were set overnight. now, nevado fires were set between 9:30 last night and 3:30 this morning. they had the arson dogs sniffing around. and investigators believe all the fires were deliberately set? >> we are looking at our arson fires and what we probably have a good idea these are juveniles. we don't know for sure. that's the direction we are leaning. we have an investigation in progress. and the arson investigators at the scene. >> pretty scary and our friend who are befores are expecting a
