if the reports are true and it looks like they are, the head coach of the oakland raiders has been fired. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. we begin with the breaking news out of the east bay where there's been a big shakeup at the oakland raiders. according to media sources, the raiders have fired head coach hue jackson.

he's only been on the job for one season. the raiders had a program moi'sing a -- had a promising start and missed the playoffs. the move comes on the same day the raiders are set to introduce the team's new general manager, reggie mckenzie. he will be the one to select the raiders new head coach. we talked to some raiders fans just a few minutes ago who were surprised to learn the news. >> we got a new gm. it's a power struggle. what can you do? >> shocked! he just got here and they fired the man already? >> you must know if you are not gonna win, you probably won't keep your job. >> the raiders are set to have a press conference in about two hours in alameda. coroners have identified a victim in a fatal hit and run in oakland. officers say a car hit a man on

73rd and bancroft avenue near eastmont mall around 11:30 last night. an ambulance took the victim to the hospital where he later died. em has been identified as -- he has been identified as 51-year- old benjamin green of oakland. >> i saw my friend laying on the ground and i just called for help. i was just trying to see how his condition was. >> officers shut down the intersection for a few hours to conduct their investigation. there is no word on the description of the driver or the vehicle involved in the hit and run. federal officials are expected to remove the last major obstacle today for a b.a.r.t. extension to san jose. the u.s. department of transportation is expected to recommend to congress $900 million in funding for b.a.r.t. congress would have 60 days to approve the idea. the money would be handed out over several years. b.a.r.t. wants to extend the tracks from from montto the berryessa

district. the new line could be open by 2016, which is two years earlier than first projected. pg&e crews should be wrapping up a big job to restore power to a neighborhood in san jose. the lights went out after a car plowed into a high-voltage power pole on camden avenue around 8:00 last night. the accident sheared the pole in half and knocked the transformer on the sidewalk. it also caused quite a track backup as crews worked on the pole. the driver also slammed into a parked vehicle. the owner of that car said it was a chaotic scene when she came out to see what happened. >> i ran outside? >> did you see any arking of the -- >> arking. the wires were down. people were yelling watch out for the wires. yeah, it was a mess. >> she said the driver was talking on her cell phone and i appeared to be okay. authorities say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

joseph naso is scheduled to be in court today. he's accused of killing four women. the preliminary hearing is expected to be starting at 1:30. tara moriarty is live to explain what's expected to happen once the hearing begins. >> reporter: prosecutors would not speak to us this morning. but details are emerging that could make this a difficult case for -- for joseph naso to fight. he's representing himself. he's charged with killing four northern california women with matching initials in the 1970s and '90. one of them car men colognes who -- carmen cologne whose body was -- was found in 197 in contra costa county. investigators say the dna under her fingernails could match naso. and we spoke to some women to

deliberately set fires. police say at least 55 small fires have been set since saturday. about half of the weekend fires were set in the rush creek open space preserve. no homes had been damaged and no one has been hurt. police told us this morning they did respond to a garbage can fire last night. but it does not appear to be related to the weekend fires. we have continuing coverage on of the fires on ktvu.com. click on "novato arsons" to see a map of each location where a fire has been set. a bay area plant is facing a probe of mow -- of polluting the bay. this is not the first time that sim's has been accused of something. kraig debro has more. >> reporter: sims is one of two metal recyclers here in northern california. on a typical day, the products are broken down, and after that they are placed on a conveyer

belt. the conveyer belt goes up to the port or the repsyche. ables -- repsychable ship for other countries. sim's was not available for a comment. they are cleaning up that after the environmental protection agency accused of them of polluting the bay. sim's metal has a 13-acre site along the creek in redwood city. the company recycles nearly 300,000 cars a year. the company's website says sim's metal management is the world's largest metals and electronics recycler. the e pm a says sim's metal management is also guilty of solution. the very thing the cycling biz is supposed to prevent. the epa found unlevel of toxicsics and -- toxics and and fined them.

crews are busy this noontime repairing a broken water main in ken singson. the 6-inch line run chumped around 1:00 a.m. and left about 270 east bay m.u.d. customers without power. the gurning water from the broken pipe also caused some property damage in the area. we just spoke to east bay m.u.d. and they say repairs are expected to be completed within the hour. the debate over whether a san francisco jack in the box

should stay open all night, heads to a hearing. fast-food restaurant is on geary in the richmond district. it had been open 24 hours a day until a customer led to a hit- and-run accident and a serious injury. the restaurant did not have permits for all-night service and so it's closed between 2:00 and 6:00 a.m. neighbors are not so sure they want the early-morning hours restored. >> in my memory, it -- it was nice to have it open. but maybe now in -- in present times, i would think twice. >> tonight's meeting starts at 6:30 at city hall. more than 500 people have signed an online petition protesting the restaurant's attempt to return to 24-hour service. the nation's highest court is discussing the effectiveness and relevance of the current rules on nudity and curse words on broadcast television. the supreme court is debating the issue today as it considers

u.s. stocks are probably higher today after european markets rallied and alcoa predicted stronger in 2012 -- predicted a stronger 2012. apple's -- apple's chief executive could end up as the highest u.s. expect tish. a new review of the filing say his package totaled $2,378,000,000. most of that comes from a million shares of the stock. 1.8million is his salary and bonus. company founder, the late steve jobs, took just one dollar a year for his annual salary but he owned more than $5 million -- 5 million shares in stock.

the daily news reports dozens of people went before the menlo park city council last night to express their support for the social networking giant's expansion plans in the city. a show of support last night comes despite the lawsuit east bay may file against expan -- expansion plans. that will do it for us. we'll tell you the next time news breaks.
