. we don't have any road work and it is wide open and for this report we are looking at northbound 101 in san francisco, that traffic looks good to the downtown hear. it is 4:30 let's go to pam. happening right now, we understand there is a crime scene this morning and we are going to be checking in with tara in just a moment but happening right now in santa clara, dozens of parents are camped outside of a popular school. claudine wong joins us to

explain why, claudine? >> reporter: it's what a parent will do to get their children into a school they want. this is kindergarten, parents have been out here some of them in the front of the line for 14 hours. they are out parked along this street and actually keeping warm in their cars. you heard steve talk about how cold it is and they have sat in their cars overnight since they were basically kicked off school property at midnight because they would not allow them to stay on the property at midnight. we believe there are about 42 and 43 people in line right now. we have this whole system going on and we spoke to the woman who is number one in line about why they do all this. >> i want my daughter to be able to walk here and have all of her friends around. my daughter is friends with so

many of the kids already in this school and it is a family oriented neighborhood and i don't want to move. truly if my daughter didn't get into this school i was going to put up a "for sale" sign and my other daughter is two so she will have sibelling priority when it is her turn. >> these are the parents we spoke to and they think there are 120 spots and there are 45 people in line. >> reporter: siblings get priority and it's actually not clear, there may be a few more spots for people who did not spend the night. they came here 1:30 after school got out yesterday and they stayed on the grounds until midnight and moved out to

their cars where they have been staying overnight. then they will make their way back on to campus in a few more hours and at 9:00 they will register their children and it has been a long night and morning, claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. a chatter school has one approval. last night the contra costa board of education unanimously approved status for three years. they have approval conditions, many of which will be met in march. the charter affect will be met next fall. police are on the scene of a deadly stabbing and tara moriarty arrived on the scene and joins us to tell us what is happening, tara? >> reporter: we are waiting for the homicide unit to arrive and until then we can't give you much information.

this is 6th street just south of market and we are right near stevenson and the alleyway is blocked off and there is a person walking with the camera. crime scene investigators have arrived and we will give you a better perspective. those suvs those are crime scene investigators and right here, these are some gloves from the medics from where they tried to resuscitate the victim. he was taken to a nearby hospital and that's the only thing that has been confirmed at this point. you can see they took this section, this alleyway and they are still looking for evidence here. again we are waiting for a homicide unit to arrive and they will be able to give us more information as to exactly what happened here. right now it is a busy scene and the roadway is open but it is difficult to get around if

you are headed southbound so i would advice taking another street in order to get where you need to go. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. this morning a driver is in critical condition following a fiery crash on san mateo. it happened just north of the highway connector. a speeding car flipped over and burst into flames. they shut down all the northbound lanes on 101 as a helicopter arrived. the young man behind the wheel was airlifted to the hospital where he is being treated this morning. an alameda woman is accused of helping her 17-year-old friend buy alcohol just hours before that friend died in a car crash. they say 51-year-old amelia

network sites. her arrangement is tomorrow. the pentagon is investigating a viral video that appears to show four american marines urinating on the bodies of dead taliban soldiers. they are trying to determine if the video is authentic. now it is being condemned across the world and in fremont's community where a man is visiting from afghanistan. >> i feel very bad and i feel sorry for the families of these people. >> now a marine spokesperson said the allegations are serious and if true they are not following the high standards expected of american servicemen. the taliban said they are willing to participate in peace

talks. a taliban spokesperson said their political wing is increasing throughout reach community and in the meantime they will continue their armed resistance. hillary rodham clinton said any deal would have to be renouncing violence. involving 300 inmates, there is an investigation this morning. it began yesterday afternoon at the prison. prison guards had to fire two warning shots to break up the fight. several inmates were stabbed but the injuries are not life- threatening. it is a huge weekend for 49ers fans and bars across the area are getting ready to cash in on the playoff game against the saints at candle stick park. we will have more than story coming up at 445.

dozens of homes and took down power lines in rutherford county yesterday. they say at least ten people were hurt. emergency crews plan to assess the damage this morning. haiti plans to commemorate the anniversary of the quake that killed 300,000 people and left 1.5 million people homeless. in the capital city of port au prince, the area remains filled with rubble and several thousands of people are still living in tent camps. >> i have listed here since 2010, and since we have been here nobody has come to help us or ask what they can do to help us. >> the president of haiti is planning to help rebuild the country and former president bill clinton plans on visiting

the leader detective found a journal that detailed sexual assaults over a 30 year period. it came during the preliminary hearing to determine if he will stand trial. he is accused of killing four women including two from the bay area. a 39-year-old woman is suing a hospital chain alleging an abusive workplace. donna filed a lawsuit for behavior health and its parent company which is health system west, the vallejo times herald reports her boss verbally abused minority employees and threw water on her when she asked for a day off. hospital management has not commented. they are trying to find the thieves who stole 47 laptops from their program. it helped to simulate real life

and take a lookout at 880 oakland and the traffic is moving well to the north. also if you are driving westbound bay bridge, no problems getting into san francisco and if you are driving in the south bay, this is a look at the north bay, golden gate bridge to the toll plaza and the fog is not an issue, let's go to steve. it is cold out there, some upper 20s all over the place. nothing will happen until maybe sun tie and then we will have a cool down and -- sunday and then we will have a cool down. a cooler pattern towards sunday and monday and i am not jumping on the rain yet at least not until monday tuesday. we will keep an eye on the 21st and that's eight days away and we have plenty of time to fine tune them. and although still going warm,

upper 20s and 30s, and i have seen 29 near santa rosa, cold air even 39 san rafael at 33. systems that are clipping into northern nevada it is showing signs of being a blustery day in the east bay hills and still up to 20 - 30 miles per hour so it gives an offshore breeze and it means another nice day for hayward and even over to the coast. that fog might put a cap on things so sunny and warm weather, especially for some in livermore, morgan hills, 67, redwood city 67, a little cooler over by half-moon bay and the city. everything looks good to go and then partly cloudy and cooler on monday, pam. developing news out of san
