kraig debro is live outside the school with more on how the teacher allegedly communicated with the boy she's accused of having sex with. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, tori. i spoke with a campus supervisor a few minutes ago. he said the principal should be here shortly with a few more words to say about the teacher on campus here. now accused of having sex with a boy. we shot this video a few minutes ago, supervisors says the school is now cooperating with police in this investigation. livermore police yesterday arrested 40-year-old marie johnson, who teaches at granada high school. they received a tip about a possible illegal relationship between johnson and a boy earlier this week. by yesterday, johnson was under arrest, facing 24 counts and having intercourse with a boy. under age 15. police say johnson had sex with the boy in her car, and other locations in livermore. she started a conversation with him on facebook at a

application called words with friends. police say that johnson was arrested at her home in livermore. we're not met with police yet. we're trying to figure out whether or not the boy was a student. it's been published reports indicate that he was, but that has not been confirmed by us yet. if you look at a live picture here you can see there are some people actually headed in our direction. hopefully they've give us more information on what happened. police say should relationship alleged relationship went on for about six months between december of 2010 and may of 2011. we don't know why the relationship ended. we talked to at least one parent this morning who said her daughter was in miss johnson's class. she didn't say much more about that. but it certainly seems as though at least none of -- not many members of the community knew that this relationship was happening f in fact it was happening at all. reporting live, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. a teacher at an east bay

continuation high school is facing sexual assault charges in pennsylvania. nicholas is the teacher at antioch bidwell high school and lives in walnut creek. pennsylvania state police say they have evidence that he had sex with a 15-year-old female student when he was teaching in that state five years ago. the antioch school board has placed him on administrative leave, and the district has informed parents in antioch about the sex charges in pennsylvania. just hours ago, fire tore through an empty home in san jose. it happened on green leaf shortly after 3:30 this morning. firefighters say the homeowners were out of town, but an alarm system went off alerting neighbors, who called 911. firefighters say flames were mostly contained to the attic and part of the first floor. nearby residents were told to shelter in place. the cause of the fire is under investigation. a shocking video that millions of people have now

the hospital. it's still not clear what led up to his killing. police are still looking for suspects. anyone with information is asked to contact san francisco police right away. one driver is in critical condition following a fiery crash in san mateo last night on highway 101, just north of the highway 92 connector. investigators say a speeding car flipped over and burst into flames. the chp then shut down all northbound lanes of 101 as a helicopter landed at the crash scene. the young man behind the wheel was airlifted to stanford hospital, where he is being treated this morning. no other cars were involved. family members and friends are out there searching for a missing 15-year-old hayward girl. darlene sing, here's her photo, was last seen leaving her parents' home about 7:00 tuesday morning. her family believes she took bart from hayward to oakland. she sent a text to a friend

that month but hasn't been heard from since. she is 5-foot 4, about 100 pounds, has curly black hair and an olive complection. she may need medical help. a company that tracks millions of license plates has some people worried about privacy now. the livermore company has reportedly compiled more than 550 million license plate records on drivers. the records can be searched by the police to track down criminals. however, some people say this technology also threatens the privacy of innocent drivers. the excitement is building as we get closer to the first 49er playoff game in nearly a decade. the 49ers face the new orleans saints this saturday at the stick. tara moriarity joins us live from san francisco with the bet that has being held between the two mayors. morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning.

travis cut 58 civilian jobs. the cuts represent a small portion of the almost 14,000 civilian jobs eliminated by the air force to reduce expenses. the central valley town of patterson could be getting a big boost from a company trying to keep things quiet about its plans. city leaders in the town say the major company wants to move into one million square feet of a planned business park right near interstate 5. the company is described as an order fulfillment company that's very successful and has an international profile. so a lot of people are guessing it's amazon. city officials will only call it project x. >> asked by the potential users to keep their corporate identity confidence at this point. >> they promise they will announce the company's name once the deal is signed. rights not likely this new business would produce a dime of sales tax revenue for the

city of patterson but the town's unemployment rate is over 20%, so hundreds of jobs would be a big boost to the local economy. after six grueling years for her family, natalee holloway could be officially declared dead today. the alabama teenager was last seen alive in aruba in 2005, while on a graduation trip with her high school classmates. her father is asking a probate judge to issue a death declaration. in september, the judge gave today as the deadline for anyone to come forward to prove that she is alive. the man who police consider the prime suspect in her disappearance is set to be sentenced tomorrow for murdering a young woman in peru. yesterday on mornings on 2 we brought you live images of joran van der sloot in a lima courtroom as he pleaded guilty to killing 21-year-old stephanie flores. his attorney blamed post- traumatic stress his client suffered after being suspected

in holloway's disappearance. prosecutors are asking for a 30- year sentence. the defense is asking for five years. the judges will make their decision tomorrow. a sacramento couple facing federal charges now on suspicion of being the ringleaders of a marriage for visa scam. they're accused of paying u.s. citizens up to $15,000 to fly to india and pretend to be engaged to someone there. staged photos would then be used as evidence of a marriage to get fraudulent visas. the u.s. marshal service and homeland security helped in this investigation, and helped make the arrests. >> i was flabbergasted. i could not believe the amount of people that were here surrounding the house, with guns drawn. >> now the investigation of the couple dates back as far as july 2005. the beating and robbery of a man near san francisco state university is being investigated as a hate crime.

and this happened about 2:00 yesterday morning on froth boulevard. the 20-year-old victim says he was walking when three men in a car started yelling homophobic slurs at him. the man started kicking the man and stole his phone. one man was white, one was black, a third latino and they escaped in a oldsmobile late 1970s model. the victim suffered minor injuries. a science experiment gone wrong caused an explosion at the university of florida. it happened in a chemical lab yesterday evening, just before 6:00. one student and a firefighter had to be treated for exposure to the chemicals. the building was evacuated, and shut down shortly after the blast. it will remain closed today for clean-up. university police don't know which chemicals were being used at the time. a former caltrans manager who was once responsible for

some disturbing cell phone video out of southern california to show you now. it shows a los angeles county sheriff's deputy elbowing an unruly bus passenger in the face. passengers called 911 to report the female passenger after they say she tried to attack another person. a sheriff's spokesman tells the l.a. times the woman has several previous convictions for assaulting a police officer. she is now on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. no word if the deputy will face charges. let's check with sal. >> we keep on eye on the toll plaza because this is usually the busy time for that commute and lot people want to know what's going on here. it's backed up for about a 15-

accused of helping a teenage girl buy alcohol just hours before she was killed in a car crash. investigators with the state department of alcohol say 51- year-old amelia chin helped 17- year-old margaret qaqish buy beer and a wine cooler. the 18-year-old driver of the car she was riding in survived the crash in february on highway 101. authorities say his blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit. the father of qaqish told ktvu news that his daughter was a friend of miss chin's daughter. >> she put their lives in danger, even her own child, not just my child, her own child. totally shocked at someone can do that. >> now, the good and rich dairy market clerk and the co-owner have been arrested. their lawyer denies they sold alcohol to a minor. the south san francisco store

could possibly lose its liquor license. a gravestone at a sonoma county cemetery has been vans lied for a second time. this happened last week at cypress hill memorial park on magnolia avenue. a marble angel on the gravestone was found broken on the ground with the head missing. the same gravesite was vandalized last october. detectives are revealing disturbing new details in the case of suspected serial killer joseph naso. yesterday the lead investigator testified naso kept a rape journal that teamed sexual assaults over a 30-year period. the graphic testimony came as part of the preliminary hearing to determine if naso will stand trial. the 78-year-old reno man is accused of killing four women, including two from the bay area. gangs in tracy will get more attention from the city's police department. the city's police chief is creating a new gang unit that

will focus on suppression, intervention, and prevention. those police officers with the unit will begin their prevention two outreach to fifth graders. last night the rodeo hercules fire district board decided not to close one of its two stations, each shift has a way to cut expenses. the board had been considering keeping only one of the district's two fire stations open each shift, but last night's meeting several fire chiefs and the firefighters union pleaded to keep both of the stations open. the board agreed. they gave the district's fire chief through the end of april to come up with financing to pay for continued operation of those stations. california is being a surge in millionaires. the franchise tax board says there were 13,000 people with incomes of more than $1 million in 2010. that's up 27% from the year before. millionaires also reported the largest income increase among tax brackets with .8%.

affiliated with since 2010. about 400 signatures have already been collected. the group plans to submit those signatures and a letter of support from city councilmembers to george lucas. a petition to turn clayton valley high school. >> a charter school has won approval. last night the contra costa board of education unanimously approved charter status for three years. now it has conditions, many of which have to be met by march. but if all goes according to plan, the charter conversion will take effect next fall. more controversy over the now bankrupt solar panel company solyndra. now the company wants to hand out bonuses to some of its employees. the fremont based company shut down its factory in august. solyndra's attorneys say the company needs to give bonuses to key employees to keep them from taking other jobs while solyndra works on its chapter 11 plan and sales. nearly two dozen employees

and you have new information, kraig. >> reporter: students are starting to arrive at school at granada high. we've been moved up the street, we needed to leave from where we were. we understand from police this morning that the victim in this case, a boy of 14 at the time, was the one who actually told another teacher about his illegal relationship with a 40- year-old teacher at granada high. 40-year-old marie johnson is now in jail at santa rita facing 24 counts of having sex with a student, having oral sex and intercourse with a student. she is an algebra teacher here, and also teaches geometry. police arrested her yesterday after just getting the tip in the investigation, tuesday, two days ago. they got a warrant the following day, searched her house and arrested her just yesterday. classes start here at granada high at 8 a.m. this morning. i've been talk to teachers or parents dropping off kids here,

shock is the word you'll hear a lot today at this school. some of the parents who know this woman a little bit better than most say she was an enthusiastic teacher, one who did a lot for her students, in terms of in the classroom trying to help them out. she according to police had sex with this boy who is now 15, and still a student at the school between december of 2010 and may of 2011. when i talked to police, they didn't say they knew why this relationship ended or what ended the relationship. they did say that miss johnson began at least communicating with the boy through facebook and another application on your phone called words with friends. right now she's being held on $1.85 million bail. we've been trying to get ahold of the principal and school officials this morning for further reaction typically in these situations the people who are a are placed on leave pinning the outcome of investigation, not confirm that

with school officials yet here at granada high school. reporting live, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. a teacher in a east bay continuation high school is facing sexual assault charges in pennsylvania. nicholas aaron is a teacher at antioch bidwell high school and lives in walnut creek. pennsylvania police have evidence he had sex with a 15- year-old female student when he was teaching in that state five years ago. the antioch school board has now placed him on administrative leave and the district has informed parents in antioch about the sex charges in pennsylvania. we're following overnight news from san francisco. police there investigating the city's first homicide of the year. it happened around 3:00 in morning in the south of market area. investigators say a 30-year-old man was stabbed, he died a short time later. still not clear what led up to his death. police are out there looking

in north carolina already. i mean, it's early for tornadoes but it's been so warm across the country, this picture of a funnel cloud that tore through rutherford county. storm tore through homes and 60 homes were damaged and 15 people were hurt. emergency crews plan to assess the damage this morning but this is really, really early for tornadoes in the carolinas. 2011 had the fewest lightning deaths on record. only 26 people died because they were struck by lightning, less than half of the average of 55 per year. the national weather service series the decrease is probably due to public awareness on getting severe weather alerts out earlier. new this hour, defense secretary leon panetta called the president of afghanistan assuring him the united states is investigating a video that shows american marines engaging in some lewd acts. allison burns in our washington, d.c. newsroom to tell us the reaction coming in this morning. allison.

to get fraudulent visas. the u.s. marshals service and the department of homeland security helped out in the investigation and helped make the arrests. two in vallejo will lose $2 million in state grant money. that is after the state school board denied waivers for vallejo high and cooper elementary schools. state board members cited the schools' academic performance index scores, which were below expectations. without the grant money, class sizes could go up and counselor positions could be on the line. an east bay company that tracks millions of license plates so some people concerned about their privacy. the livermore company is compiled more than 550 million license plate records on drivers. the records can be searched by police to track down criminals, but some people say the technology also threatens the privacy of innocent drivers.

restructuring plan and sale. almost two dozen employees would get bonuses ranging from 10,000 to $50,000 under the plan. the bankruptcy judge would have to approve that proposal. linked in is taking over more office pace in san francisco. the networking website just signed a lease for another 57,000 square feet at one montgomery tower. they're maintaining their mountainview headquarters but says the new offices give it better access to the workers it wants. the 10-year-old craigslist foundation is shutting down. it announced the news on its website. the foundation says its programs including the alliance building network of community advocates and its non-profit boot camp will survive. but under different leadership. craig new mark, who founded craigslist, says he will continue his work through craig connects, which supports access to technology for everyone. facebook keeps growing

talking about this controversial video you're looking at, seen by millions of people now, all over the internet, showing american marines in afghanistan urinating on the bodies of taliban fighters. there's concern now that video could intensify anti-american sentiment around the world. the cause of a san jose house fire this morning is under investigation. firefighters rushed to this home on green leaf lane about 3:30 this morning. the flames were mostly contained to the attic. the people who live there were not home and no one was hurt. granada hills high school teacher marie johnson is in jail this morning accused of having sex with a student. ktvu's kraig debro has been outside the school in livermore this morning and is back now to tell us what he's found out about the alleged relationship. kraig. >> reporter: we just talk to the superintendent of schools, and this all came together very quickly. police say the victim in this case told another teacher at

the school between that time which is on tuesday and sometime yesterday the teacher was arrested and put into santa clara -- santa rita jail, in dublin. smelled a 40-year-old teacher, here she is, marie johnson. she teaches algebra here at granada high school. and apparently, according to police, she began this relationship alleged illegal relationship with the student in december of 2010, and ended in may of 2011. i did speak to police this morning. and they told me that they didn't know why the relationship had ended. she's charge with 24 counts of having oral and -- oral sex and intercourse with the student. people arriving at school today, allotted of them expressing shock. some just couldn't believe what was happening, especially since very people knew about this. we understand that miss johnson

allegedly began communicating with this young boy who is actually 14 at the time, on facebook. and a game called words with my friends, ice an application, and this boy now 15 is actually still a student at the school. >> something like this -- the entire educational community, so there are many people who then become affected by this, and so we have a crisis team we provide support for employees and for students and it doesn't end now. it can be available ongoing. >> according to police, the alleged sexual contact took place most of it in her car. she also lives here in livermore, and the sign outside her door classroom 201 says ms. johnson, saw that there, so people still trying to recover from this, try to digest it

engineers. the winner gets $5,000. now they don't know in any former competitors now work for facebook but it's certainly a way to get noticed. last year a 26-year-old from russia was declared the world champ. >> all right, pam. an earthquake rattled northeastern japan today, a 5.8 quake centered about 75 miles southeast of the fukashima daiichi nuclear four plant. that is the same nuclear plant damaged in last year's major quake and tsunami. right now there's no word of any damage or injuries from today's earthquake, and there was no tsunami warning. today haiti commemorates the second anniversary of a devastating earthquake that ravaged that nation. it was a 7.0 quake that killed about 300,000 people and left 1 1/2 million homeless. in the city of port-au-prince, the area is still filled with rubble and damage.

investigated as a hate crime. the attack happened around 2:00 yesterday morning on font boulevard. the 20-year-old victim says he was walking down the street when three men in a car started yelling homophobic slurs at him. the men got out and began punching and kicking the victim before stealing his phone. the victim says one of one was black, one white, the third lateen. they got away in a oldsmobile, possibly a late 1970s model. the victim suffered minor injuries. a disturbing confrontation on a bus with witnesses say made a sheriff's deputy hit a bus passenger in southern california. scary moments for pedestrians on a busy sidewalk after glass panels crash down and it's happening many times. -dad, why are you getting that? -that's my cereal.
