pinole, where investigators believe this fire was no accident. tara? >> reporter: well, the house is boarded up. but from what we're being told, the fire appears to be intentional and an isolated incident. firefighters busted down the front door. they broke windows and quickly dragged hoses to squelch flames that riched through this house on sara court just before 4:30 this morning. >> it started on the porch. when he came out of the house, the fire was on the front door and the porch area. nothing was inside the house. it is suspicious. >> reporter: ktvu was the first to bring you this video pr a firefighters' helmet camera. the 24-year-old who just started renting this house from his parents was sleeping

alongside his girlfriend, when he heard some glass shattering. >> when he -- when he went to the hallway, he saw a lot of smoke. that's when he realize the house was burning. >> reporter: jesus' mother said she's thankful they got out in time. >> they got out in time. things can be recovered. >> reporter: crews say the damage would have been more -- less severe if it weren't for the budgets. >> we had to close the station near here in july. and that station would have been here earlier than the station from downtown pinole. >> reporter: damage estimates are at $100,000. police are now handling the investigation and say the previous tenants here may have been the intended target of the arsonist. any evidence, however, burn patterns, that sort of thing, was destroyed by crews trampling through that front

porch. live in pinole, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, tara. a fire is ripping through a redwood city mobile home park at this hour. chopper 2 was over the scene about an hour ago just after the flames broke out. the fire is burning in the lamar trailer park just off highway 01. the fir appears 20 -- highway 101. the fire appears to have spread. no word on injuries. fire -- fire vancouvers are looking for the cause of an apartment building on hardcor street. it quickly spread 24r50u the attic and the walls -- through the attic and the walls. this morning people were gathering what belonging they could and looking for somewhere to stay.

richmond police have called off the search for a gunman bramed for a -- blamed for a shooting near the railroad tracks that happened this morning at 3:30. witnesses say a man flagged down the train and said someone shot him from the rooftop. he said he also saw a laser beam. they searched the area. they could not find anything. the shooting victim is expected to be okay. some people are honoring martin luther king by doing service work, including the obamas. the obamas were in d.c. at the library sprucing it up. later today, the first couple will attend the "let freedom ring" celebration at the kennedy center.

just finished up their work. you have a girl scout troop cleaning up some of the mess here. but what's going on part community service event for the martin luther king holiday but it's also part research project. an oakland nonprofit is teaming up with researchers from -- from uc davis to celebrate a special kind of soil they just put on the ground. there's plenty of pavement here but not many tree es. these volunteers want to change that. the nonprofit urban relief organized more than 100 volunteers to plant trees to celebrate the martin luther king, junior holiday. >> this is west oakland. we are surrounded by freeways. >> reporter: the air quality can be harmful for people with respiratory problems. >> people here are hospitalized seven times the national average. so planting trees will not only beautify the community but it will help with air and water

firefighters near long beach in los angeles county have knocked down a major fire at an oil refinery complex. flames broke out just before 4:30 this morning near an administrative -- inside an administrative building at the conocophillips building. more than 150 firefighters responded. they contained a fire with no injuries, no oil products burned. the cause of the fire is under investigation. the death toll now stands at 24 from a building collapse in beirut, lebanon. the five-story apartment building came crashing down last my.

search crews have been digging through the rubble hoping to find survivors. among the dead is a 15-year-old girl. tenants say the building been in a state of disrepair, made worse by rain. the search is still on after a cruise ship capsizes in italy after it struck a reef on friday and started sinking off the tuscan coast. crews had suspended their search earlier today after the vessel shifted in rough seas. so far the bodies of six people have been recovered. 16 are still missing, including a couple from minnesota. those who survived said they are lucky to be alive. >> it was chaos. glass, everything was everywhere. >> the ship's owner is blaming the captain for the disaster. the captain is behind bars. he's being investigated for manslaughter, abandoning the

this week, the sonoma city council will vote on whether to enact a moratorium on chain stores. it will be in effect until they reach a decision on a proposed ordinance to limit those businesses from coming to the city. and that could affect san francisco-based williams sonoma. the company wants to return to sonoma and open a store at the original site on broadway where chuck williams first started

selling high-end cookware in 1956. the store then moved to san francisco two years later. apple is breaking its usual corporate silence and is voluntarily talking about working conditions in its overseas factories. apple is sending independent auditors in the plant where the devices are assembled. this is after reports of 12 suicides at partner factories in chine nau. apple said it found many cases of underaged workers and excessive work hours in those facilities. we have new information now on that fire in redwood city we told but earlier in the newscast. the fire 90 minutes ago and a trailer park on east bayshore road. the city's public information officer just told us that the fire is now out and two mobile homes and a vehicle were destroyed and two other homes were damaged. one wz went to the hospital with smoke inhalation. there's no word on that
