board the ship but they changed their plans at the last minute and ended their cruise a little bitterly and disembarked in roam but they do remember the people on board the ship including the ship's captain shederica mcduffie johnson and they said the ship's -- francesco schettino and they said he seems to be very for himself. >> there were some crew members that were nice and some that were not. >> there was nobody happy on that ship, not even the passengers were happy on that ship. >> the ship is huge, it has 11 floors and is two to three football fields long. they are continuing to search for clues about what went

wrong. they found a second black box recordings and that should give you information about how the disaster unfolded. 25 passengers and 45 crews have been located. joseph naso is charged with killing four women and now they are investigating a 30-year-old homicide case and they want to know if naso may be connected to that case. they found a journal in naso's home that referred to a girl near heelsberg. a woman's body found there has now been he can zoomed and a dna test will be performed.

livermore talking to people about this chris attain? >> reporter: yes, day of, i think we are in one of the coldest spots in the bay area. as you can see it's two 5 degrees and keith and i have an informal bet and i think it will get down to 22 degrees before the sun comes up and we are certainly keeping a close eye on those temperatures. temperatures are still dropping in livermore and those chilly temperatures have prompted the weather service to prompt a freeze warning and it is expected to run through 8:00 this morning. it will not be unusual to find frost on their windshield but the more serious issue could be frost or ice and that's right, frost on the roadways and certainly a very real idea especially on bridges and

overpasses. sal castaneda is going to give us an alert about that black ice. we found one man this morning wearing shorts and he said he was on his way to work and was caught off guard by the cold temperatures. >> you are a brave guy you are wearing shorts? >> yes, but i work indoors, i work in construction. >> reporter: he had his overalls and working inside will help and livermore is certainly one of the colder areas and steve paulsen is keeping an eye on the other areas, do you have an idea of what we'll see for the rest of the week as well, right? >> well, maybe south and east but higher clouds will take the edge off tomorrow. there is a little bit of cloud cover working its way towards

shelters and road crews have been out there salting and deicing the streets. and in overnight news, a train collided with a car and it all happened near 23rd just after midnight. fortunately nobody was hurt but the driver, a young woman, she was the only person in the car and there were no guardrails on that stretch. they were out said to be signaling drivers by hand but that driver missed the warning and kept driving through. right now firefighters are battling a house fire in martinez, tara joins us with the very latest, tara? >> reporter: we are here on walnut street and one of the things we noticed was the heavy smoke, crews are at the top of the street and water is gushing down the street and that's because crews doused the flames starting at 4:00 a.m.

this morning. joining me is the chief with contra costa county, tell me what you think happened here, you believe this may have started in the living room area? >> yes, they had a fireplace and they had a fire and were awoken by smoke detectors going off. they realized they had heavy smoke and fire and they were able to escape out of the front door and call 911. >> we understand one person has been ported to the -- transported to the hospital? >> yes. we first arrived and the house was fully involved to the left- hand side of the building. >> reporter: but all in all you were able it get out rather quickly? >> yes we were, we were able to surround it and go into a defensive mode and put a lot of water on it and knock it down

rather quickly. >> reporter: also, i want to show you this back here live, we can show you -- wow, look at that, very heavily involved, crews were able to attack this. this was a single alarm fire and right now they are trying to make sure all the little spots are out and under control. live in martinez, i am tara moriarty, back to you. and in just the last 20 minutes, five more bodies were recovered from that costa concordia ship in italy. now the death toll is reaching 11. we know 24 other people are still unaccounted for and this morning's discovery comes after rescue crews found a second black box.

the costa concordia flipped over after hitting an island wreathe. we actually met the captain several times. his table was right next to us during the different seating. >> this is a couple that was on board the costa concordia cruise ship before the disaster. coming up, we will let you know his impression before the disaster. stemming from accusations he physically abused his wife, you can see he received a warm welcome from his supporters. mirkarimi was considered supervisor for eight years.

>> prosecutors charged mirkarimi with child endangerment and domestic violence. the charges stem from a fight with his wife on new year's eve. mirkarimi and his wife used twitter to denounce domestic violence just days before the incident at the couple's home. mirkarimi retweeted a message in spanish warning women of the usual increase of domestic violence during the holidays. the former venezuelaian television star said she has no complaints against her husband. how is it looking out there, sal? >> i find it humorous that they are betting about how cold it's going to get. i think captain will win this

one, we'll see. it is getting more crowded as you come out towards the toll plaza and it looks like the normal commute is back. yesterday of course we didn't have any crowds here but we do have a crowd getting in to san francisco and no major problems on the bridge and it is still not bad but it's more crowded than it was yesterday. this is interstate 880 moving towards oakland looking good in both directions. looking at the maps on highway 17, pardon me, we have some slow traffic in the mountains itself but once you got to los gatos, already crowded conditions building on highway 85 this morning. now if you are on the peninsular traffic looks good on 880 getting in for your flight and 880 southbound in union city, traffic looks good and dumbarton and san mateo a looking good as well.

fire in martinez. flames broke out on walnut street earlier this morning. firefighters think the flames started earlier in a wood stove. one person is in the hospital and we don't know their condition. and the five remaining presidential republican candidates faced off ahead of the primary this coming saturday. a new washington post poll shows mitt romney still is holding on to his lead over the other candidates. your time is 6:46 in the last half hour we learned five more bodies have been recovered from the costa concordia ship in italy. this now brings the death toll to 11. new details are coming in about the captain francesco schettino after the boat started sinking. these are some pictures from italy but on the audio recordings, he is making excuses why he should not return to the ship even as passengers are evacuating. here is allie rasmus and there

is a california couple who met the captain and they are telling us how they narrowly escaped that tragedy. >> reporter: they flew back late last night and they were spending their 41st wedding anniversary on board the costa concordia the wrecked cruise shipwrecked. they ended the cruise early and ended up getting off the boat in rome so they were not on board when the disaster happened but they remember a lot of the people they met when they were on the ship including the boat's captain. >> the captain's table was right next to ours at the dinner seating and my first impression i even told my wife, that captain does not care about anybody but himself. >> reporter: now they said they made friends with some of the other passengers on board the ship but when back in rome they were in the hotel with some of

the other stranded passengers. >> the stories they had to tell was unbelievable. they only had the clothes on their back. one couple i spoke to had no shoes. he had been without shoes for a few days. >> the costa concordia has 11 floors and it is two and a half to 3 football fields long and it has been partially submerged since friday and divers had a lot of work to do. they found a second black box which should give them more clues about how the disaster unfolded. there is now 11 people confirmed dead and still 20 others unaccounted for. allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 news. demolition work is due to begin today on a brick walkway at the golden gate bridge. this is costing -- causing both anger and tears.

25 years ago people bought clementtive bricks to raise money for the 50th anniversary of the golden gate bridge but a lot of people are learning from television news the bricks are about to be removed and then destroyed. ktvu channel 2 news had the only camera there when one couple took matters into their own hands. he took a hammer and chisel to retrieve the brick he had inscribed for his wife. >> that was the 10th anniversary. >> we will kick him off the property, he is trace passing. >> they -- trespassing. >> they must accommodate people who have disabilities and they are now building a clementtive wall featuring all the names put in those bricks. you have not worried about the cold, black ice et cetera this morning?

los gatos, they may even be colder, clayton, wood acre walnut creek, 19 fairfield, 26 livermore, we have record lows, napa santa rosa san jose was 30 but outside the valleys there is 27 degrees and there is a lot of 20s around. increasing clouds, that will not do much for us today and it will be cool. the pattern has been dry and it has changed to cold more so than anything else and we are hoping it is a gets towards thursday and we need to get that to open up a little bit. i am weary on it and it does not look as promising as it did a couple of days ago. cool highs, upper 40s and lower 50s on those rare days, warmer than napa and antioch and it is too cold inland shall. it is tough to recover. some rain in the north bay,
