good morning. i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. topping our news -- an early-morning house fire in martinez. it started a few hours ago on walnut street. ktvu's tara moriarty arrived on the scene a few minutes ago, right? >> reporter: that's right. the folks who live here string lights every holiday and a lot of folks come and look at them. so they are really upset and devastated for the family. this fire, you can sort of feel it in your lungs. it's so cold. it's sort of lingering on the ground. one family member was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. all made it out okay when the

fire broke out. >> as the water is starting to run down the hill, it's freezing. it's approximately 28 degrees. we're having the freeze and the ice and that's creating danger for our firefighters and residents in the area. >> reporter: some firefighters have slipped already. the salt trucks have arrived. this house is a complete loss. fire officials believe it started in the living room where the family had their wood stove burning. back here live you can see the water is still pouring down the street. one neighbor experienced flooding in their garage. so crews are sandbagging that graunkg. also still fighting this fire

here here---- also still fighting this fire here -- garage. they are still fighting the fire. back to you. a sheltner place was put in place -- shelter in place was put in place last night. there's reports after possible natural gas problem. police sealed off the streets and told residents to stay indoors. investigators later found out it was an electrical problem. that caused a brief power outage. however, investigators are saying the public was not in danger. 7:03. the bay area is waking up to freezing temperatures this morning, extremely chilly conditions set in overnight, dipping below freezing in some parts. steve paulson is tracking the colder temperatures. we'll get to him in a minute. first we go to christien kafton in livermore. >> reporter: good morning.

livermore, checking in as one of the cooler places in the bay area. my photographer, keith, and i had an informal bet about how cold it was going to get. he thought down to 23. i thought 22. looks like we were both round. temperatures are starting to rebound. 26. that's one degree warmer than when it was. so maybe the temperatures are just starting to warm up. chilly temperatures have prompted the national weather service. despite those temperatures which are now just starting to warm up, that freeze warning is expected to run through 8:00 this morning. it will not be unusual for people coming out to their cars to find frost or ice on their windshield. while that can be a little inconvenience, it's a signal that there could be a more serious problem and that's black ice, especially on the bridges and overpasses. sal castanedo is keeping a close eye on that. and we'll alert you to places
