cloudy. rain developing. although there is already mist out there. heavier rain will be coming in. temperatures will be in the 50s. this is a mild air mass but it's also a much wetter system that coming in by this evening. here is sal. traffic is moving along pretty well around the bay area. you can see traffic looks good in most areas but it's wet out there as you mentioned. this is highway 4. traffic will be effected by the wet weather. the morning commute is not all that bad if you are driving on interstate 880 in oakland. the morning drive on the golden gate bridge is looking good. they are changing the lanes there you can see on the bridge to reflect southbound 4 and northbound 2. be cautious as you come down the toll plaza. now let's go back to the desk. topping our news this morning police in hayward were kept busy overnight. responsing to several drunk driving related crashes.

alex savidge is in hayward where one of the drivers is facing hit and run charges after crashing into a couple cars. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, to you pam. police say this was a drunk driver that was flying down this residential street behind me. he slammed into three parked cars including this limb moe parked in the driveway. this is video you will see only on two. the speeding car also crushed the front end of a bmw. investigators say the suspected drunk driver got out and ran off. he may have been going 70 miles an hour on the wet roads and this morning we talked to the owner of one of the damaged cars. >> i heard a car dragging metal from down the street and then i was starting to have anxiety. and i heard it hit a car and then i didn't hear my alarm go off. i didn't know if it hit my car or not. then i looked out and it was

gone. >> reporter: you mean where you parked your car. >> yeah. >> reporter: hayward police say they eventually arrested the driver of the car. three blocks away from crash scene. his face was covered in blood. his head went into the windshield. he's facing charges of dui and hit and run. a hayward police sergeant told me this accident was one of throw dui related crashes his department handled late overnight. the continuing rain means slick roads. we were in berkeley overnight where you can see it coming down there. this morning we are tracking the rain and how it will effect your commute. steve and sal will have more throughout the morning coming up. also this morning dozens of occupy cal protestors continue their marathon demonstration inside a uc berkeley campus library. they took over the anthology

library. many faculty members strongly support the demonstrators and worked out a deal with campus police to prevent a crack down. but that deal is only good through this morning. and it's not clear what will happen next. in just about 90 minutes occupy protestors in san francisco will begin a day long demonstration in the city's financial district. their goal is to disrupt business at banks and other corporations involved in foreclosures. it will be one of san francisco's largest demonstrations since the iraq war protest ten years ago. occupy protestors in the bay area's three big 21s plan to take part in a national protest today. demonstrators in 100 cities plan to occupy the courts. now they are protesting the recent landmark u.s. supreme court decision that removed most limits on corporate spending in federal elections. occupy demonstrations are planned outside courthouses in

san francisco, oakland, and san jose today as well as across the country. the oakland city hall is set to vote next month on a controversial plan to protect the nation's fifth busiest port. protestors staged two huge demonstrations at port of oakland late last year. costing the port millions of dollars in lost revenue. it calls on city leaders to do everything possible within the law to make sure the port stays open during future occupy protests. critics say the plan would lead to more violent demonstrations and police estimate it would cost $1.5 million to insure that the port stays open the last republican debate before tomorrow's south carolina primary got off to a firey start. >> i am appalled that you would begin a presidential debate on a topic like that. coming up at 4:45 the question that had newt gingrich so upset. time now 4:34.

daly city police are asking for your help to track down a man that wandered away from his home. 66-year-old jaeson hhon has -- chon has been missing since yesterday morning happen he is unable to speak and write because of a medical condition. he has no identification or cell phone with him and lived in daly city for about a month. firefighters are battling a fast moving wild fire near reno that destroyed more than 20 homes. last night the fire could be seen from ten miles away from the downtown casino district. it started yesterday afternoon and it was fueled by 80 miles an hour wind gusts. flames came within miles of a school where vice president joe biden was actually speaking. now he was farced to cut his visit short. 2000 people are out of their homes this morning. that is down from 10,000 earlier. fire officials say there has been one fatality.

continuing rain and melting snow are triggering deadly nods in oregon. crime scene tape marks the area where a mother and her 20-month- old baby were killed yesterday. their car was swept into an overflowing creek. right now 17 rivers from salem to eugene are overflowing flooding streets and homes. a state of emergency has been declared in four counties in oregon. and people are being asked to leave their homes in many areas. the rain is in the forecast today which could cause more flooding. more flights are canceled today at the seattle tacoma airport because of bad weather. alaska airlines is grounding 50 flights and plans to operate 60% of its daily departures. yesterday alaska and horizon air canceled more than 300 flights in and out of seattle. it's all because of freezing rain that followed the big snowstorm there. 200,000 people are still without power and it is another snow day for school.

get ready. the 49ers are preparing to host the new york giants in sunday's nfc championship game and grounds keepers are preparing the field for possible rain. crews say the wind is in good shape. they also say the fields should be able to soak up any rain on sunday without getting slick. the nfc logo lines and end zones were painted yesterday. actually wednesday. and the field has been covered with a tarp. fans at sunday's title game will see an increased security presence. the nfl chief of security will be in attendance and says there will be a zero tolerance policy. san francisco police have increased staffing 25% for the playoffs. they plan to have extra officers both inside the stadium and outside in the parking lot. now police made 20 arrests during last saturday's game against the new orleans saints. time now 4:37. muni is using the overnight hours to remove an suv that ended up deep inside one of its

investigation. the rescue mission is once again on hold on the overturned cruise ship in italy. rescuers have been using explosives to blow a hole through that submerged window so that they can access the inside of the ship but divers had to be pulled back after concerns that the ship may be shifting. italian officials say the rescue will resume once conditions are safe. 11 people are confirmed dead. 21 people are still missing including a couple from minnesota. in election new this morning newt gingrich came out swinging in last nights presidential debate. he blasted the moderator for asking the question about gingrich's second wife's claim that he asked her for an open marriage. >> to take an ex-wife and make it two days before the primaries a significant question in a presidential

rick santorum said he does his own taxes and will release them when he gets back to his computer. ron paul said he does not plan on releasing his taxes because he would be embarrassed to put his income up against the other candidates. san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi is being told to stay away from his wife and child. a judge issued the order yesterday when he went to court to plead not guilty to domestic violence charges. he's accused of a new years eve incident. prosecutors say text messages and video appear to show domestic violence against lopez. mirkarimi's defense says they had an argument. a san francisco mayor afrees. >> i know him, i know his wife and i know there is no domestic violence here. i'm supporting him in this difficult period. >> lopez also appeared at yesterday's hearing. telling the judge quote i think the violence against me is i don't have my family with me. this country is trying to pull

it's back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. president obama showed off his singing skills during a fundraiser at the apollo theater last night. the event featured a performance by soul legend al green but president obama stole the show when he belted out a few lines of green's hit let's stay together. ♪ i'm so in love with you [ cheering and applause ] >> that is pretty good. he was cheered on by the crowd of about 1400 people.

season. good morning, everybody. let's take a look at the commute now. traffic on northbound 101 as you approach the 80 split that traffic is moving nicely. no major problems on the lower deck of the bay bridge. also the morning commute looks good. we are looking very nice coming into the city. and if you are driving this morning on the south bay freeways, we're pretty good. we had a couple crashes in the wet weather. i want to remind you it is wet out there. plan accordingly. we may also have a wet commute according to steve. in fact, let's bring steve in right now. hello steve. >> hello sal. how are you? >> i'm good. >> we do have the wet streets. monday we had the record lows. clear, cold, 20s and teens. now we are cloudy and temperatures in the 40s near 50 degrees. that allows the next system to come in. it's roaring. this one will be stronger. the rain will develop. it will be a cloudy rainy day.
