i'm tori campbell. we'll have more on the occupy protest. but, first, we begin with an amber alert. a young girl was taken from her home. any sign of her, alex? >> reporter: still no word. she was abducted at gun point from her bedroom. it happened in the middle of the night. in talking to the family this morning, they believe this crime was carried out by a gel jealous oaks boyfriend. >> an amber alert has been issued for taylor vo. they believe that she was taken by tri le. >> the girl's uncle, kevin nguyen says that the suspected kidnapper stormed the family house, and fired off several

shots before heading to vo's bedroom. >> i saw a man holding a gun to my dad's head and he was making his way upstairs and asking for where my sister was. basically, when he could not find out what he was looking for, he got my niece and abducted her, i guess as a who isage. >> reporter: le drove off with the girl in a dark minivan. investigators do not know the license plate number, but they do say that le has been convicted of domestic violence and that has them worried. le was in a relationship with vo's mom up until a few months ago when they broke up. they say he was not happy about things ending. the girl's mom does live here at the house, but she was not home at the time of the abduction. san jose police say, this afternoon, they believe that the suspected kidnapper still has this little girl but they have no idea where he might be

headed with her. obviously, if you spot either of them, put in a call to 911. live in san jose, alex savidge. now to the day of protests in the bay area. as promised, occupy protesters disrupted business as usual in san francisco's financial district. we have continuing coverage after following the developments all morning. ktvu's tara more yardy has reaction from workers in the area but we begin with claudine wong on arrest and police action that picked up in the last hour. claudine? >> reporter: tori, protesters remain outside the wells fargo bank here in montgomery street. it's a little calm. they have allowed traffic to go back through this intersection which was not the case. take a look across the street and you can see a strong police presence, police in riot gear tank by because things have gotten very tense. tensions have been rising all among long.

>> the series of arrests began at 9:15 as police tried to clear two doorways. police say this is for safety reason. >> this is dangerous. we would like you to move. >> reporter: protesters said they were going to keep occupying those doorway. >> we will not move. wells fargo is accused of closing homes, taking people's money. we are leer to say that this has to come to an end. >> are you prepared to to be arrested. >> yes. >> she was one of the persons arrested. we saw a couple dozen more. some were confrontational with the crowd swelling and tensions rising. in this crowd, police had to move in when the number of protesters overwhelmed a small number of officers in front of the goldman sachs building. police pushing people out of the way as they took one man into custody. and then, more reinforcement as hostilities continued to rise. and here is a live look again

at those reinforcements all along montgomery street here in the financial district. the issue has been balancing first amendment rights with the ability of other people to operate. traffic to go through the intersection and employees to get inside wells fargo. the reason they made most of those arrests is pause they were blocking the doorways and police commanders told protesters they needed at least two doorways according to the fire chief to make sure that was a safety issue. again, thinks supposed to be an all day protest. we expect police to continue their presence here. people are trying to get in and out of here on the way to work. tara moriarty has more reaction. we just pulled up and protesters basically blocked up this intersection here. we pan over here to our left. you can see on the move, once again, they are making their way up california street.

and the protesters earlier had sort of cornered officer on their motorcycles, we noticed and then police took off and came back in force. within minute, there was a scuffle between protesters and police and we saw some protesters actually push police officers and even strike them. others chained themselves to the entrance of wells fargo. more officers came in on foot and patrol cars suited up and -- people suited up in riot gear to try to get a handling on the situation. we spoke to some people who work here in the financial district. some were annoyed by the demonstrations and others are amused. >> if they stay out of my way, that's final i commute. i also understand they have a right to speak and do what they want to do. >> reporter: this protest was time to coins side with the two-

outside federal courthouses in oakland, san francisco and san jose. the occupy the court action was to protest the recent land mark u.s. supreme court decision that removed most limits on corporate spending in federal election. this group has been outside the oakland federal court on clay street since about 8:00 a.m. protests at the federal courts in san francisco and zonings are just getting underway. and at uc berkeley, occupy protesters are continuing their protester. they are protesting cuts in campus library hours. some faculty members spent the night with students and negotiated with campus police to allow the occupation. we are tipping to cover the demonstrations in city and we will go back to reporters for live updates shortly. a sunny vale elementary school is on lock down after

someone made threatening phone calls. the principal of san miguel elementary says that three calls came into the school's office just after 8:00 a.m. police were called ant school went on with coat red. students and teachers were told to stay inside their classrooms as police searched room to room. >> the kids are all accounted for and safe. public safety reresponsibilitied very well. there is a good perimeter set up. classes at the school are set to be released today. in just a few myths at 12:30. however, the school says once the code red is lifted, students will be released to their parents at a nearby park. a wet weather system is moving over the bay area but the rain is tipperring off a bit here is a live look at berkeley and the east shore freeway. you can see on the left side of the screen, westbound traffic

is the heavier side. rainfall is fairly widespread along the pay area which made for a rainy commute this morning. folks in oakland's china town huddled under umbrellas. rain is causing significant delays at san francisco international airport. an airport spokesperson tells ktvu that passengers are facing delays of up to 3 hours. and those are mostly on shortfall lights. coming up, ktvu's meteorologist rosemary orosko will tell us more the field at candle stick park is being protect by this huge red and white tarp. the nfc championship game is set for sunday, of course, between the niners and the new york giants. and it may be a soggy game as

more rain is expected. this cute scene is just part of the excitement. we'll show you more in less than ten minutes. a wildfire burning near reno is now putting the area at risk for flooding. the charred land and the start of what could be heavy rain has authorities on alert. the fire already destroyed 26 houses since it started yesterday afternoon. about 2000 people are still under evacuation orders. the flames are about 50% contained. when we get back, the trail of destruction in a bay area neighborhood. the person that police say caused it and why and we'll have an answer as to whether you'll see more rain. all the important sunday football forecast. ♪ and life is like a song >> the entertainment world mourns the passing of a legendary blues singer.

ya ship off the coast of italy has called into question the company's emergency response. the review will be conducted by a former naval officer. the debt toll currently stands at 11. 21 people are missing, including a couple from minnesota. and a rescue search has been suspended because of a shift. rescue workers will go back on the upper part of the ship today and divers will go into the submerged areas tomorrow. italian authorities are trying to stabilize the ship and are considering anchoring the vessel to the rock of the island using chains. we want to go back live to downtown san francisco where, as we mentioned at the top of the newscast, there has been increasing tension between police and occupy pro terses. ktvu's claudine wong joins us live once again from the scene. claudine? >> let me give you a look at

the situation. this is montgomery and california. this intersection was blocked earlier. that's why you see police officers here directing traffic and making sure that protesters do not flood the streets again. the crowd seemed to have dwindled. there were 19 total arrests made this morning. you can still see police officers. that is the commander who has been watching the situation all morning long out here keeping an eye on things. wells fargo is the building on this street. the door is continually blocked off by pro terses who locked arms and, in some case, chained themselves to the door. for the most part, police are allowing those protesters to stay in the doorway. the issue came when they wanted to clear two doorways on the other side of this building. they said for fire safety reasons. they wanted to make sure that employees could get in and out. when those protesters would not leave from those doorways, they got arrested. up the street, i want to show

you goldman sachs. they are still outthere somewhere on the corner and that is where arrests have been pavement police at one point did rush up the street because tensions arose between the crowd and police. there is an event right now. there are protests planned this evening as well. this is a national day of protest for the occupy movement. they expect this to be the largest occupation of the financial district in terms of protest since 2003 when there was an antiwar protest in this financial district. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. median incomes in america dropped by 10% in the last four years. and middle income families are struggling under the obama economy. gasoline price is up. food price is up. health care cost is up. >> with south carolina's primary one day away, front runner mitt romney took aim at president obama in a rally in

gilbert. he also admitted he suffered a slim defeat in iowa after a recount put santorum in the lead. santorum also barn stormed in south carolina. after rick perry dropped out yesterday, there are two other candidates in the running. newt gingrich and roll paul. a nationwide poll conducted tuesday by a rasmussen report says romney at 30%, just 3 points ahead of gingrich. gingrich jumped 11 points from 16 to 27 in just two weeks. rick santorum slipped to third. the fourth candidate, texas congressman ron paul, is at 13%. legendary blues singer etta james is being remembered as one the entertainment world's greatest divas. ♪ ♪ .

>> etta james died this morning at a riverside hospital. her manager said she died from complications of leukemia. she was 73 years old. james spent years battling a drug addiction but overcame it. she has won a number awards, including six grammies. her most enduring hits include "at last" and "tell momma". a suspected drunk driver is under arrest after crashing into several cars overnight. police were called just after 2:00 after a man hit three parked cars near bishop and eldridge avenue. the driver was going about 70 miles per hour. he ran from his car after crashing into the last vehicle, but witnesses gave officers a description and they are able to find him a short time later. >> it sounded like something got hit really hard. my husband got up, got out side and they were just totally smashed right here in front of our house. >> the only person injured was the suspected drunk driver. he was taken away by paramedics

with injuries to his face and hands. an oakland man suspected of opening fire on a san leandro loves is under arrest officers arrested 25-year-old matthew nguyen after he was spotted in pinole yesterday. he is accused of shooting an undercover san leandro police officer as officers conducted an undercover investigation. that undercover officer was not hurt. some san francisco school kids are gearing up for the big 49ers game against the new york giants this weekend. >> students at st. cecilia school in san francisco were decked out in the red, white and gold showing their support for their home team. the 49ers are just two days away from taking on the new york giants for the nfc championship game at candlestick park on sunday. one student told us that the kids are so excited about the

hour. santa rosa, castle calistoga picking up some rain. as we head along the peninsula, we are looking at showers on and off and they are very light out there right now. they'll begin to really increase by the evening and it looks like if you had evening plans in addition to the rain, winds to 20 and 30 miles per hour, a few light sprinkles from time to time, it will become more widespread in time for the evening drive home but for now, just on and off light showers in the forecast. your satellite radar here, we are waiting for the become edge. here is the front as we progress through the evening hour. by about noon time, just notice a few light sprinkles. by about 3:00, it becomes more widespread. i'm stopping it here because the evening drive will be wet and snow. this with this front comes the wind. we are looking at 9:00 or 10:00

for the south bay. while it sleeps, it pulls on out of here. the south bay will see a few scattered showers but looks like saturday afternoon, we're going to actually get a break with the next system coming in on sunday in time for the big game. current temperature in the 60s. we are not going to warm much above this. 54 expected in berkeley. 54 in san francisco. into the south bay, mid-50s, upper 60s for san jose. 60 degrees looks line the warm spot for santa cruz. are you headed to the mountains? it is a rough one out there. for the afternoon, we do have a winter storm warning. lasting through tomorrow morning. snow levels will be dropping and impacting the passes. gusts to 54 miles per hour, up over the ridge tops. so in addition to heavy snow, blowing snow. going to be pretty treacherous getting up the hills. forecast showing you, we do get a break on saturday, but sunday, in time for the game,
