california. we have live team coverage tonight beginning with tom. he is in the financial district looking at the target of the mass protests. >> reporter: the target was the financial system this is directly in front of a branch of the bank of america which has been chained by a human chain, in the build that once was the world headquarters of bank of america. what are you seeing is a kind of reverse of the occupy movement and the occupy movement means -- by blocking off montgomery and california they have done just that this has been going on all day is finishing this meeting now where they are singing all kinds of other things going on. we wondered what other people might think and wanted to ask one important question. is this really winning friends and influencing people? today much noise and much theater. is the message getting through

? >> i don't know that the message is effective because it's like five seconds you see a word on a sign . >> i think they need to find focus. i don't really know what they are saying. >> reporter: the dean of the golden gate university's business school. they have to compete with campaigns and elections that will run nonstop through november. >> it had a theater to itself for a while. it was -- i think it's a question of being crowded out by the fact that now there are other ways to deal with this issue which is i think the real issue has got the movement its momentum. >> i think that they are slow to target the area that needs to be targeted >> reporter: now witness the human chain now blocking the bank of america's -- we are getting yelled at, pushed around a bit. the thing that's interesting

about is that this is the human chain that is being involved here and blocking this -- it's now closed -- has been closed all day long. across the street the wells fargo has boarded up all its windows expecting violence. that organized protest goes on right now. that's about all i have until we will -- come back and i will turn it back over to you. >> labor groups took to the streets today as well. dave hernandez live in san francisco with that part of the coverage. >> reporter: we started protesters at the grand hyatt and then marched with them along post and wound up here on montgomery. this is in front of 315 montgomery which is where protesters converged and as you can tell hundreds of protesters right here with signs and say we are the 99% and foreclosure on banks not people, plus stop

corporate greed. earlier -- protests to the grand hyatt because employees have been working without a contract for two years. we have been watching them all day with frustrations over battles and hurdles. we have walk add long post as i said with this march and they have been -- they have chanted we got sold out, banks got bailed out. that was the chant. list tone a demonstrator who earlier told us how the convergence of issues really defines the occupy movement. >> you know that housing and labor are connected. if you don't have a job, if you can't find a job you know it's hard for you to pay your rent and if you are undocumented it's harder to find sustainable housing. >> reporter: and as i was mentioning earlier, labor groups joined in on the

protests today. this is -- this says occupy with the 99%. they are just one of the labor groups involved in the march today. a lot of protesters, a lot of frustrations we have heard from a lot of people today and we will continue to update you from montgomery street. reporting live. jade hernandez. >> the yellow county da said today it'll not file against the students pepper sprayed at uc davis. last november we showed you the images of a police officer using pepper spray on seated students during protests. the da said there was insufficient information in police reports to file criminal charges against them for failing to disperse. >> and we have been watching the protests from early this morning. again this is a live look outside the bank of america building at montgomery and california. three groups have merged in to one at this hour. there are hundreds of people in the streets. we will stay on this throughout this newscast and will update you with any major developments. >> we are also on storm watch

tonight as gusty winds whip through the bay area. the rain is expect stronger and the evening drive is a tough one. we are looking live at interstate 80 and berkeley is bad in both directions. eastbound and westbound. also bad on the access road. the far left received screen. let's go check in on what's happening. wet roadways here but you can see traffic moving well in and out of the city and marin. also now to oakland where a large branch fell on top of a power line. the power was not affected. >> we have live team coverage tonight. eric is up in the sierra. bill martin is monitoring condition was storm tracker two. we go to john fowler in the north bay. we saw you at five. continues were getting bad. what is it like now? >> reporter: worse now. the wind has picked up and so

has the rain. wind now 20, 25 miles an hour gusting to maybe as much as 30 and the rain maybe a quarter inch much an hour. i want you to look now at highway 101. chp in the last hour has reported 24 crash around the bay and they are also now in the last 15 minutes reporting standing water on highway 101 at lucky drive. we have not yet seen widespread flooding closures. the soil is so dry it's soaking up most of the rain. the creek this afternoon small but people aware of its power. >> i learned that the hard way. you can't be nervous, can't lay awake at night. >> reporter: six years ago this creek burst over its banking destroying structures and flooding stores along the

after. >> i think lessons have been learned. >> reporter: this storm relieves worries for marin water users who get most of their drinking water from runoff. today's rain is filling area that were at their lowest in years. >> we haven't had any plain two months. if we get a lot of straight storms the ground is soaked there -- it fills quicker. >> reporter: when the ground is soaked it means more potential for flooding. with relooking again. . >> reporter: we got rain out there right now. live storm tracker it 2. saw john. here is san rafael. here is where john is. heavy rain on the east received the richmond bridge. up in nevado, vallejo, going up toward lake tahoe. if are you driving out here it's hard going around bay area freeways. we showed you highway 80. you have united states 80, you have a lot of slow traffic and

as you go toward oakland and berkeley less heavy rainfall. these yellows coming down from the north. they are headed our way and we anticipate heavy rain as that front gets closer. the heaviest rain still in the forecast. up in the mountains its been snow and we had eric up there last night. he showed us snow in blue canyon. some of the warmer air from the south. he has encountered in the last few hours rain and slushy snow. we go live to eric right now, how is it going? >> reporter: you nailed it. we are here at 5,000 feet and are getting a steady rain. i can tell you it's very cold, and it's very windy as we pan over the lights were blowing around and we were on the edge elevation wise where some of it may turn into serious snow. now normally that wouldn't be big news. we are in the season that has been anything but normal. snow falling from the sky and not blowing out of machine social security something skiers and snow boarders say they have been waiting for

more places. >> the excitement last night in town was wonderful. it was really nice to see. >> reporter: look at that rain coming down. i just checked again with caltrans there. are still no chain control its out here but officials said anybody coming up this weekend should have chain was them because they are expecting more snow. >> and be sure to stay with us 24 hours a day. we have live weather radar tracking the rain and you can o'clock road and snow conditions before heading up. >> an 11-year-old kidnapped from her home was found safe this afternoon. the man who police say took her was shot and killed by police. a statewide amber alert was issued after she was taken at gun point from her house early this morning. police say she is the daughter of the ex-girlfriend.

>> the da is getting ready for the high profile murder trial of a man accused of killing a father and his two sons. he said the defendant edwin ramos is a gang member and mistook one of the sons for a rival. >> whole family was destroyed over a careless and brutal criminal act. we have -- this has been a long road for the office and preparing for this case. >> reporter: he is a accused of killing the three while they were driving home in 2008. a firefighter is in the hospital tonight after battling one of two fires in the same apartment building. the fires burned at 273mcarthur boulevard. the fire is out now. this morning's fire left it a few minutes before it was put out. the causes of the fires under investigation. >> firefighters in reno still

battling the fire that's burned nearly 4,000 acres. crews have been able to get a liana round 50% of the fire. the strong wind's have died own and that's helping. unfortunately one person has been killed. 26 homes have been destroyed. firefighters said that it's remarkable -- that is remarkable considering how fast the fire has spread. nah we have update on a story you saw many on the 10:00 news. it involves the old wagon saloon and grill that had a doll hanging by a noose as a decoration. the naacp called it offensive. the before operator said it was a joke. today the naacp said the price chief talked to the bar owner it came down this morning. >> we will tell you about the unusual steps san francisco police will doo to keep the stadium secure this weekend. >> also more live coverage from san francisco on the day

. we continue to follow breaking news from san francisco. a day of protests. what are you looking at are hundreds of protesters on the move. they are massed for a moment at montgomery -- now they are marching down montgomery toward market street and there is some indication they may try to occupy a foreclosed building somewhere in the financial district. we have reporters following them, cover the scene and we will continue to update this as

warranted throughout the newscast. >> a san francisco 49ers flag was raised outside city hall. they will take to the field in less than 48 hours to try to secure their it spot at the super bowl. preparations underway despite the rain. we flew over the stadium this morning and as you can see a large red and white tarp is covering the field. >> security is a top priority for the championship game and we are live from candlestick with a new step police are taking to make sure fans keep the peace. >> reporter: let's show you some of the security features. security starts right here. you can see that folks being inspected as they come in. in the last hour and a half the police chief said his officers will go undercover here at the stick on sunday on the look out

>> reporter: police bumped up their presence by more than 25% last week. >> the norm allah rage around six to ten. this game we had 19. >> reporter: that doesn't include the one felony battery and three felony arrests for counterfeit tickets and parking passes. they say they will continue to partner with the 49ers inside and outside candlestick and officers say they will increase their presence even more for this weekend's game. >> we get there is a certain amount of ribbing that may go on. >> reporter: san francisco police are asking fans to watch out and text bad fans to the 49ers if they see someone getting out of control in the stands. >> kickoff is at 3:30 on sunday.

we are on storm watch tonight as the first storm makes its way over the bay area. the first of the year. some flights are being affected. san jose is normally running on high with minor delays. at sfo delays of a few minutes up to a few hours for arriving flight but departing flights are said to be fine. in oakland departing flights running up to a half hour late. arriving on time. bill martin tracking the storm. looks like a lot of green behind you. >> the main front starting to move in and you mentioned a flight delay. they aren't big but i would expect in the next few hours if you have flights between now and 11:00, sfo, oakland, san jose the winds will pick up. when they come up out of the south it changes the way they land and take off . as the front moves on shore you can see where the north bay heavier rain. that's not the front. as the front moves on shore we

will start to see the winds pick up and potential for more flight delays. is this a giant storm no but it's a good sized storm. it's a seven and a half. exactly what we need. wind gusts could get up to 45 miles an hour. maybe a couple feet of snow. there is sunday's weather system. this will be out of here by tomorrow morning. sunday's system the one that will hit on the nfc championship game. not a big one. same kind of dealt. will roll in midmorning, early afternoon on sunday and as it gets closer the winds will pick up and it'll move through toward the end of the game and toward the early evening hour. not a major storm but you know, game like that any kind of rainfall or wind especially on the bay will -- could cause issues. sunday you look for scattered showers, saturday system, moves avenue off in the mountains. that goes through here is the saturday break but it's still showery then sunday's system comes in.

so we go to candlestick park and you can see that -- it was nice but not going to be as we head in to the weekend. we will talk about a chance for scattered showers on sunday. it's terrorism irand showers during the game and these guys, they are used to playing outside. giants -- it won't be that type of storm that shuts them down but it's a championship game. we will have a southerly wind off the bay. that will impact -- kicking, the kicking game obviously and the passing. the forecast models l is tonight. there is the frontal pass. come tonight at ten and we will update it. there is your saturday. there is -- sunday. one, and there is the football game in there. not a huge deal. definitely there. if you head not man ins winter storm warning, five day forecast shakes out. plenty of rain and it's good. we need it. the game will be fine. just not making it easy for the teams but a good game.
