. rain and snow helped firefighters helped contain homes and forced people to evacuate. it burned nearly 3200 acres. an elderly man said he may have accidentally started the blaze when he improperly disposed of ashes from his fireplace. no word on whether they will file charges against him. the body of a 93-year-old woman was found in an apartment but her cause of death is not established. parts of the country is covered in snow. heaviest was seep in massachusetts with some areas getting a foot. this is the first major snow since october when it is 2 feet of snow. in new jersey, 4 inches of snow is on the ground. that has some people spending, doing side work. money while, people behind the wheel are dealing with driving conditions and some are taking advantage of the snowfall with a little sledding. similar weather conditions are being seen in new york city. i am happy to say we had, what we think is an adequate amount of rock salt available

they are welded shut after occupy protestors took over the building. >> they demanded it be used as housing for the homeless. san francisco police cleared everyone out and firefighters searched the building to assess the damage left behind. >> some of the demonstrators opened up the hose line inside the house lines and we are making sure they are all shut off and in case we have a fire, we can have water and put out the fire and protect the building. plywood covers the plate glass windows at the bentley dealership. they destroyed the glass and damage is estimated to be in the tens of thousands of dollars. >> they reese deuce hours and it is now over. and shows students starting the protest at the campus

anthropology lab. now students demands have been met and library will resume normal hours on monday. >> they are searching for a gunman who escaped during a standoff with police. a man injured and shot people near an auto repair shop at macarthur boulevard. the gunman then barricaded himself inside the garage. the s.w.a.t. team and k-9 unit rushed to the scene for more than six hours and some how the managed to get away. no injuries in an apartment fire in hayward, the fire broke out yesterday. the boy was the one who noticed the flames burning in a neighboring apartment. he quickly woke up his sleeping mother and they both escaped the home. the next door neighbor escaped also. this is no word on a cause. firefighters in petaluma are surveying a building after a rash of thefts.

someone is stealing firefighter connections from commercial buildings. they are y shaped and used to pump water into the build's sprinkler system. he so far the connections are missing from six different locations throughout the city. anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the petaluma police department. strong winds are blamed in the death of a park employee at yosemite. >> a tree fell on his tent cabin. high wind knocked down trees and there are no other reports of injuries. the mayors of seven california cities are asking for funding for last year's massive windstorms. they hit late november and stayed through the first week in december. they reached 120 miles an hour. and damaged a number of homes. the mayor stayed the emergency cost and clean up would be at least $40,000.

good morning to you. a gloomy start to the day as the next storm approaches the bay area. we will be with scattered showers over the north bay. a light rain is expected and it will become moderate to heavy tonight and into early, early tomorrow morning. look at storm tracker 2. light showers over santa rosa and petaluma. it is over parts of the north bay. we saw a pretty good dry period yesterday. now we are back with cloudy conditions and we will be turning wet throughout the day. 46 in napa right now. numbers are cooler than yesterday. with all the good clearing we saw late in the afternoon. 42 concord and 42 in livermore. 46 in oakland and outside your door. reporting 45 degrees right now. winds are light and right around the coast and san francisco reporting 10 to 15 miles an hour. 10 to 20 miles an hour expected most of the afternoon in most

areas. it will be cloudy, cool, breezy with intermittent showers. here is the satellite radar. you can see it is taking an easterly path. it is just the scattered showers and then a second disturbance that develops in the evening. take a look at what happens here. we start out mostly gray and in the forecast over the north bay, right. we are here into the afternoon. i do suspect we will have a few scattered showers here. it stays primarily to the north. in the evening hours it is heavier. first, it is moderate and then heavier at times. we will see a little bit of unstable air pull through in the overnight hours and bring in the risk of maybe the possibility of a thunderstorm while we sleep. periods of rain expected for today. on and off especially over the north bay. then later tonight, the heavier rain moves in. it will be with us through the
