the rain will decrease as it accelerates to the east. first one didn't do much, this one has some wind and rain and the combination has given us some much needed rain, off and on showers, 50s and 60s, and also very windy at times. here is sal. we have some very tough driving conditions out there, starting off with interstate 880 westbound, traffic is wet and we have had many fender benders, nothing too major but we have a few things we need to let you know about. let's look at interstate 808 traffic -- 880, high street north there is flooding and watch out for 280 northbound it is going to be slow and flooding in some of the outside

lanes. 4:30 let's go back to the desk. topping our news this morning, wet roads out there, pounding rain and some powerful winds especially overnight. the big storm has created some hazardous highway conditions. paul chambers begins our storm watch, good morning paul. good morning, i tell you, it's clear out here and we are at interstate 880 as sal was just talking about it just before the university exit and we are still working out the details and the accident involved a big-rig truck and a car. rain has pounded the area overnight and two vehicles collided and a truck crashed into the concrete barrier off the right shoulder where you can see parts will need to be replaced. the backup cleared up the last 30 minutes and there are some trucks out here working to

repair the area and as you can see people are driving out here quickly and you can give yourself some extra time and people are driving on the roadways which are dry so if you are going to come out here give yourself some extra time. this roadway has caused some havoc so give yourself some extra time and be safe. paul chambers ktvu channel 2 news. >> he is in dahly city, christian we can see behind you what is going on? >> reporter: over here you can see the same thing and you can see chp has the off ramp closed right here and this is right here at the daily on ramp northbound that is towards san francisco and this off ramp is closed right now and it is

going to be closed a little bit longer. that is where cal trans true is working on some road repairs and they have been out here for 45 minutes and we have got some video of that work. chp officers have discovered a problem and they originally have two feet of standing water at the bottom of this ramp. the officer told me he cleared out debris and cal trans are replacing the asphalt watching out for similar damage on their commute. >> people don't pay attention but they think they can drive the same speed. it doesn't really matter to them. i would try to tell people to drive safely for the roads. >> the water gets in here and it is buckling. >> the water goes underneath these cracks and there is enough water which makes it

they would be headed to the super bowl, the 9ers jumped to a 7-0 lead and they had a touchdown, 9ers were up 1-10 and the nightmare began for kyle punt returner kyle williams. they took a 17-14 lead, 9ers tied the game and that's when williams turned the ball over again and they kicked a field goal, 20-1. >> i am just thinking about those two punt returns for quite a while. we lost the game offensively it was just not good enough. >> we are definitely a super bowl team, we made it this far and everyone wanted to win, we wanted to play in the super bowl but we just didn't get it.

car but denies firing any shots. now the case gained nationwide attention and he was arrested with an arrest record and was never deported because of the sanctuary policy. they may not have enough to hold naso for his trial. he is representing himself in a courtroom, and he is expected to wrap up his closing statements this morning. he is accused of crimes dating back to the late 1970s. this morning a judge is expected to be within the next six weeks. the sheriff will also be in court to ask for a modification to stay away from his wife and

two-year-old son. approximater is now facing allegations, he was arrested saturday afternoon on one count of misdemeanor domestic battery. the alleged victim was not identified and the spokesperson said the general attorneys office will be handling that investigation, at a little after 3:00. i got stuck in that accident, how does it look now? >> unfortunately it has been replaced by a couple of other collisions. i want to ask the guys in the control room if we could bring up the maps at some point because i just found out about a couple of other things that are going on this morning. they happened after or so.

. police say 42-year-old tree lay was a man who forced an 11- year-old girl from her home at gunpoint after firing several shots. later police tracked him to an apartment where they say he held the girl hostage. an officer shot and killed him and according to the information the man who took her was the ex-boyfriend of the girl's mother. the magnitude earthquake happened yesterday afternoon. it was followed by several small after shocks. right now no reports of a

tsunami. costa concordia, search efforts continue, the overturned cruise ship continues to shift in the water off the italian coast and it's causing fears that tanks inside the ship could rupture and cause a massive fuel spill. 19 people are still missing after last week's disaster. crews did recover another body bringing the death toll to 15. the winningest coach has passed away. thousands gathered outside penn state for a candle light vigil for joe paterno. the 85-year-old died from complications of lung cancer. he was with penn state for more than six decades but his legacy was marched by a former assistant coach. critics say he should have done more to stop the alleged abuse. >> joe was like our

airlines plane left for houston. there are typically more bird strikes in january than other months. sacramento is apparently in the heart of the bird migration route to mexico. last year they noted 3400 bird strikes compared to 6 in the following months. winter storms are battering more than just the bay area, the damage left behind in arkansas after several reported tornadoes. and marking the year of the dragon, the special celebration in the year of san francisco. -- in the year of the dragon.

northwest, this is a live picture from birmingham alabama, at least a half dozen tornadoes came through the area. it brought hail, strong winds and downed power lines. strong winds here as well, a lot of rain. i know i hit a few spots and there was a lot of water on the freeway. >> that's right, any water in some of the outside lanes, just take it easy and it does seem as though this morning we have had fender benders, nothing just yet but let's take a look at the maps. going to the willow pass grade, there is a crash there as well, slow traffic this morning on westbound 80 fairfield connector and traffic will be busy. on the morning commute, bay bridge toll plaza, no major problems getting on to the

bridge. and if you are driving northbound 280 is off to a good start. let's go to steve. reason being a strong area of low pressure is moving through the north bay and we have a howling south wind. high pressure to the north, filling it with wind, there are some pretty good gusts with some higher elevations. drinking some rounds of rain and wind and it will pick up intensely and we'll see that get on the backside of this and we will be on the drier side but we will have some morning rain, scattered showers all over the place and it is more showery to the north and east. 50s and it is mild out there. the only 40s i can find, that is why we have such a strong wind. today we have one of those sun
