6:01 let's go back to the desk. police are investigating an attack, it happened hours ago on a young tourist near fisherman's wharf. a female juvenile was attacked by a man in bushes along north point street. police officers who just happened to be driving by rescued that victim and they did arrest the suspect. both were taken to the hospital and the victim is from another country who somehow became separated from her group. we do have a "k" tv u story coming up at 6:30. they are investigating the death of a college student as the man and his sister were heading to class. christian captain has more on the story, chris attain?

-- christian? >> reporter: we have been on standby waiting for that update, we are here at the richmond police department and we are expecting that update a little later on this morning. at last check victims family has not been notified so we are not releasing his name but he is a student who appears to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. now we stopped by the scene at 22nd and at 330 we found a candle burning in memory of that victim and shattered auto glass. we did see evidence markers and clearly they have ballistic evidence. that shooting happened at 7:00 last night and the gunman was on foot, there was a running battle with that gunman shooting at a passing car. after the car passed through, the gunman turned to the man

and his sister and the gunman opened fire on them. the 22-year-old was hit and the sister sped away but it was too late and the young man died of his injuries. public information officers get on duty and we are waiting for them to arrive and give us more details. the hunt for the suspect and the name of that victim, as soon as we get that information, we will bring it to you. now we are getting a big crash down on telegraph hill, look at the pacific to your, ktvu channel 2 news' paul chambers is there to tell us what is happening as we speak, i am still looking over your shoulder there, paul. >> reporter: security has asked us to move out of the area for

she had a private congress on your corner. congresswoman gabrielle giffords is resigning from congress to focus on her recovery. the state department is moving to save locations in the capital city because of continuing political unrest. government security forces have forced people there to stay indoors. embassy staff and families are being moved to other neighborhoods to try to avoid that violence. and obama has announced another bank in iran, accusing it of helping iranian agencies in attempts to obtain uranium. this follows a ban that president barack obama put in plan last month to sees all

commerce -- cease all moratoriums. and another government report about the health risk of technologies. pg&e installed the smart meters after they approved the moratorium and they insist smart meters are safe but critic say the smart meters give off dangerous radiation levels. this can enact two rules for the city's plazas. they are located across the street from each other at 17th streets. among the proposed rules, ban on camping, smoking cooking and shopping carts. the full board will take up the issue next week. they are now a step closer to legalizing same sex

the fire department department said nobody was hurt or living there at the time and it is still not clear how the fire started. >> bringing in the lunar new year with a bang, san francisco kicked off sell breaks with us thunderous displays in chinatown and it featured traditional lion dances. this is the year of the drag done and they are building floats for the parade. they comprised one of the largest celebrations in the world attracting 3 million spectators each year. >> of course we are part of that and you can see it, it is right here live beginning at 6:00 on channel 2. when you go to a concert, turn off your cell phone.

and police are collecting evidence behind these bushes and we just got off the phone with san francisco police public information officer and they got a report of the missing juvenile at 2:30 a.m. which is when they sent out extra patrols in fisherman's wharf area. they noticed a young woman being attacked in the bushes, police rescued the juvenile and arrested the suspect. both suspect and victim were transported to local hospitals and authorities are not releasing their conditions at this point. police tell us the young woman was a tourist from another country and she somehow got separated from her group early this morning. they are still trying to figure out where the woman was headed when the assault happened. we are sticking by and we were first on scene early this

morning. for now reporting live blank blank ktvu channel 2 news. well in overnight news, police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a college student. police are waiting tara moriarty details in this -- waiting for more details in this case, christian? >> reporter: now at last checked, the victim's family had not been notified so officials are not releasing his name. what we have is a 22-year-old contra costa student who appears to have been targeted by the gunman either out of frustration or because he was a potential witness. richmond police tell us the gunman was on foot and there was a running gun battle with a passing car. after the car got away, the gunman turned to their car and

the gunman opened fire on them as they were getting ready to go to class. the young man was shot and the sister sped away and the young man died at the scene. they found a candle burning in memory of the victim and lots of shattered auto glass. detectives have wrapped up their investigation at the scene and we have seen evidence markers but what they really need is a witness to come forward. we are at the police station and the public information officer is set to arrive here any minute now and when she arrives, we will get the latest details from you, ktvu channel 2 news. two senior care centers are under quarentine because of the norovirus outbreak. at least several people have

been sick, a total of 73 people were sick in corte madera. he plans on talking with ross mirkarimi about whether he should continue on with his job. new allegations of abuse came out from his ex-girlfriend. she claimed he once grabbed both her arms, shook her and pinned her against the wall. this claim is in addition to allegations of abuse by mirkarimi's wife. >> people will ask do we want this type of person being the sheriff of san francisco and if these two incidents are true, the answer is no we don't. >> mirkarimi will go to trial on the allegations involving his wife and the ex-girlfriend

6:43 san francisco police are busy investigating an attack near fisherman's wharf, police tell ktvu channel 2 news a female juvenile was attacked before 4:00 a.m. along north point. police officers on patrol rescued the victim and they did arrest the suspect. police are investigating the shooting death of a college student. he was on his way to class with his sister last night when a gunman suddenly opened fire on their car. president barack obama will deliver his annual state of the union address tonight. the president will announce a new blue print for the economy. they will return to the scene of a huge look slide. it came crashing down on telegraph hill and paul claim letters -- paul chambers is out

. welcome back, a live look at the big board dow jones industrial average down and some mixed earnings and they are likely to cut greece, a lot of concerns over europe and it is a affecting stock markets around the world. they are discussing a proposed budget and it calls for major budget cuts and layoffs for city employees. mayor jean quan is calling for layoffs, mayor jean quan said the city was able to reduce the number of job cuts by

restructuring the department and they are cutting city services and programs and that includes the aquatic center, the oakland zoo and children's ferry land -- fairy land. they are consider ways to preserve the future in pacifica. if a proposal is approved by the board, they could start to negotiate between the county and city and county of san francisco on how the course is handled. and the environmental group is home to a threatened species. they believe the land can be designed to keep the golf course open and allow that rare species to exist. they will also consider a proposed rate hike for garage. according to a county report, the 47% hike will increase

costs for garbage collecting due to employee raises, business cost increases as well as the equipment they use. the rate hike will raise the cost by almost $4. they are trying to find the gunman who shot and killed him as he arrived for work. it happened in rancho cordova. just ahead, the economic motive san francisco detectives are now focusing on. the film society said he passed away yesterday after suffering two strokes while attending the sun dance film festival in utah. he is survived by his wife and took over as director of the film society last november after his predecessor stepped down and died of cancer. the best in the movie world
