there is a big cleanup ahead in frank ogawa plaza this morning after last nights occupy protest. we'll show you the damage and tell you about the. arrests. one person killed and several others injured when shooting erupted outside of a house parted last night. good morning everyone welcome to mornings on 2. it's sunday, january 29th i'm mike mibach. >> and i'm claudine wong. let's check in with rr and your sunday forecast.

good morning, rosemary. >> good morning, to you. a little patchy fog over the north bay. the winds are light by tonight and into the morning. we have subtle changes that may turn into a damp start for your monday morning drive. we'll take a look at those models coming up. three police officers are injured and at least 400 protestors are facing charges. police officers in riot gear fired off tear gas and bean bags last night after they faced off with protestors. they responded in force after protestors threw bleach bombs and other products at them. they stood guard at city hall.

>> they turned over the historic model of city hall and the ground floor and destroyed the children's art exit on recycled art. >> no one broke in. the doors were unlocked. people started tipping over stuff and that's when i left. i didn't think that was right. >> mayor jean quan is calling on the violence to end. saying bay area occupy protest fors need to quote stop using oakland as their playground. the use of force by oakland police started early in the day along oak street. officers fired off tear gas and flash bangs after protestors tore down the fence. our ktvu crew captured some protestors throwing bottles, rocks, and other projectiles at the officers. >> at this hour there are people still at frank ogawa plaza. cleanup is expected to get under way there. and lorraine blanco is joining us with a look at some of the

damage and vandalism left behind. lorraine. >> reporter: police are guarding city hall as we speak right now after what happened last night. they told me this morning the arrest count is at more than 400. check this out. you can see quite a bit of graffiti behind me. that one right there weeds stab a cop. what you see here is a small part of the mess. we can't show you a lot of what needs to be cleaned up here this morning. because of all the profanity. a good portion of the vandalism is directed toward oakland police. if you take a good look around the plaza and city hall you can see pant slat splattered on the frank ogawa plaza and garbage left all around. this will be a massive and expensive cleanup. the protestors should be forced to do it themselves. >> get them, detain them, charge them with whatever you charge them with and the same way they run around the

streets. bring them back out here with brooms and bring them out with dust pans and have them clean up this miss that they have made of our city. >> reporter: hundreds of arrests last night. this morning a handful with minor charges like failure to dispurse are being released. but many will face more serious charges in the next half hour we'll have reaction from the oakland police as well as hopefully reaction from protestors this morning. reporting live in oakland lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 news. a ktvu news crew covering the occupy protest became part of the story. protestors jumped on our van and started throwing objects and possibly rocks. they did drive off without getting hurt. to try and save two homeowners from foreclosure. the two movements say one of the homeowners is a victim of predatory lending. a demonstration is scheduled for 2:00 this afternoon outside of a chase bank.

the specific branch has not been announced. we have continuing coverage of the occupy demonstrations on ktvu.com. you will find unedited video from the oakland protest as well as video from news chopper two. oakland police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one man dead and three others injured. it happened outside a house party around 2:00 this morning on east 1st and 20th avenue. it's not clear what lead up to that shooting. but police say they there may have been more than one gunman. two of the people that are injured is critically injured. oakland police say a 15- year-old boy has admitted to killing his parents and hiding their body inside their car. the police found their bodies saturday night. the victims are 54-year-old robert kamin and susan poff. officers made the discovery after one did not show up for work. police have not said how the

couples have died. we are learning more this weekend about a controversial proposal that would ban smoking, camping, and shopping carts in a portion of san francisco's castro district as we reported earlier this week the proposal would cover jane warner plaza and harvey mill plaza. now the bay citizen reports it could cover park lets across san francisco. those are former parking spaces converted to mini parking. the legislation unfairly targets the homeless. stanford university police are warning students to this morning to lock their doors, windows, and lower the blinds after a series of peeping tom incidents. there have been at least four reports this month about a peeping tom attacker rothers hall. officers say the individual ran off when the woman said something to her. all four incidents occur in the first floor gender neutral shower room. oakland is getting ready to open the door to even more

marijuana dispensaries. the chronical reports the city will issue four new permits for dispensaries next month. right now four pot clubs operate in oakland. they bring in a million dollars a year in fees and taxes. the cash trapped city needs the added revenue from the four new dispensaries. the city of oakland is getting ready to lay off more than 100 employees. san jose is getting rid of its regulations for medical marijuana clubs. on friday mayor chuck reid called for the suspension of the rules. critics collected enough signatures to block the regulation. the rules would have limited san jose to just ten medical marijuana dispensaries. they want to get an initiative on the ballot to repeal funding for that new line. the rail transit or smart project would start with

service between san rafael and santa rosa. in 2008 voters approved a quarter cent sales tax to improve it. san jose's late coming skate park has got the funding and will stay open. volunteers decided to hold fundraisers. $30,000 in donations are keeping the sayers skating now. volunteers are trying to find sponsors to keep the park ohm next year and beyond. good morning, to you. we have another brilliant day in store. we will be above average for this time of year. although not as warm. we doo have subtle changes in the forecast. you may begin to notice as early as this afternoon. give you a look. we have light winds outside the door. reporting a few gusts over the

east bay hills. temperatures sitting in the 30s. we are definitely chilly out there. 33 in santa rosa is an improvement. 4-8-degrees warmer for some of our inland spots. 35 in napa. 36 reported in concord. 38 degrees redwood city. and palo alto sitting in the low and mid 30s. satellite radar here the ridge of high pressure beginning to break down just a little bit. it will be flattening out as the system here begins to swing a little bit closer to northern california. for today we will be a little bit chilly this morning. fair skies expected for most of the day. increase in clouds for the afternoon as this moves in it will bring us the high clouds. filtered sunshine we like to call it. and by tomorrow morning it looks like perhaps maybe, maybe a sprinkle. take a look at what happens. i will pick it up in the afternoon. notice 3:00 or so we are dealing with the clouds. they don't go away. they continue to increase and by tomorrow morning it looks like 7:00 or so maybe a light

shower over parts of the north bay. this is going to slide south between looks like 8:00 and 10:00. it fizzles out as it does. we will have that possibility there. by monday afternoon we are drying out once again. the ridge will rebuild and we will be dry. so we are looking at temperatures sitting in the low 60s once again for the afternoon. right around santa rosa. 62 degrees expected. that is cooler than yesterday for several degrees. 62 in berkeley. 62 expected for oakland. 60 degrees for san francisco. 63 for hayward. 64 san jose. mid 60s los gatos. if you remember yesterday morning we were looking at upper 60s for the afternoon over parts of the south bay. 68 expected for santa cruz. the extended forecast shows you an increase in the clouds for the afternoon and evening hours. morning clouds tomorrow. perhaps a few sprinkles. not going to amount to much. we could use more. temperatures will continue on the cool side though. right about seasonal for this time of year.

a live look over san pablo bay. we have a few high clouds overhead. that will be the case for the afternoon as well. we are following developing news from fairfield. two people have been killed in a crash on interstate 80. multiple cars were involved on westbound 80. that crash happened just before 5:30 this morning. the chp is rerouting traffic in that area. in sacramento three people are dead and several more hurt after a train crashed into an suv. as don coo reports they are trying to piece together what exactly happened. >> reporter: witnesses yelling at some of the passengers who got off the light rail train after the crash who were trying to help the victims in the suv. which you see lying crumbled near the left of the screen. >> maybe 30 yards south of the intersection. the vehicle is flipped over and it's on its top. >> reporter: the suv and the

train collided at 26 avenue near 25th street in south sacramento. here it is being towed from the scene. of the four people in the suv, three are dead including an infant. a boy. the lone survivor in the suv a woman is being treated at the hospital. 50 people were on the train. several of the 16 injured train passengers were taken to the uc davis medical center including a 13-year-old boy. >> he has lumps on his back of his head. he has a neck brace on. i just heard him crying. he's scared. >> reporter: investigators are look at video and evidence at the scene. they are also talking with witnesses on the train and who were near the intersection. one man was waiting on the other side of the tracks when he saw the driver of the suv. >> he tried to go around the track. those sticks. he tried to go around and got hit. >> reporter: transit officials are saying they are hearing the same thing. >> witnesses, statements of our operator, a security guard that

was on board the train. >> reporter: investigators say several mounted cameras on the train confirmed the driver did try to go around the crossing arms. the train was going about 50 miles an hour at the time of the crash which is standard. police say they had no choice to shoot and kill a fellow officer that was on duty. that officer was being investigated for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl. authorities say the officer realized he was being investigated and when fellow officers tried to arrest him, there was a struggle. the suspect drew his weapon and began firing. the arresting officer fired back hitting him once in the chest. the suspect later died at the hospital. >> this is a very tragic and unfortunate incident and situation that unfolded very rapidly and the results are something we will have to deal with. >> the officer that was killed was married and had been work agent the department for four years. detectives had begun

investigating the alleged sexual misconduct against him on thursday night. the sheriffs office will investigate the shooting beforehanding it over to the district attorney office. a 17th body was found in the wreckage of that cruise ship that ran aground in italy. the woman's body was found on the sixth floor. 16 others remain unaccounted for including a couple from minnesota. it ran aground on december 16th. the captain of the ship remains under arrest causing a ship wreck and abandoning the ship before the passengers evacuated. a 26-year-old man fell to his death while on a carnival cruise ship on friday. he fell from one of the upper levels and landed on the ship's atrium. the man who has not been identified we know though however he was on a five-day cruise that left charleston, south carolina. police are investigating the

incident. inspectors are arriving in iran to investigate whether the country is trying to develop a nuclear weapon and their arrival is being met with protests. iranian students showed up to the international airport in iran today ahead of the inspectors arrival. the students held signs stating the nuclear program is just for the country's energy needs. others had pictures of the scientists recently killed. the head of the state oil company in iran is predicting the cost of oil will soon reach $150 a barrel. right now it's selling for about $99. the head of the national iranian oil company did not give a reason or time frame for his prediction. fire works to celebrate the year of the dragon has had hazardous effects on the year in china. clouds of smoke sent air pow

louis levels soring. beijing recently began using a new system to monitor pollution levels because of air quality concerns. oakland's mayor celebrated the lunar new year this weekend. mayor jean quan visited each of the cities historic families to wish them a prosperous year of the dragon. despite two recall efforts, quan still has strong backing in the city. >> democratic clubs. latino community. we are hearing it from all sides. we have a coalition meeting i'm working on. it's been very heartwarming. >> yesterday the chinese american citizen passed a petition in support of mayor quan. quan's husband said the group collected more than 2,000 signatures last weekend. san francisco zoo is hosting a year of the dragon

celebration today. there will be acrobatic performances, folk dancing, and chinese yo yo tricks. the zoo's four-year-old bearded dragon will be the guest of honor. and anyone born during the year of dragon will receive free zoo admission today. the chinese new years parade is less than two weeks away. you can see it live right here on ktvu channel 2 on february 11th at 6:00 p.m.. a 24-year-old snow border in utah is caught in an avalanche and killed. how his friends were able to find him on that mountainside. and they are a popular fashion accessory but why one pence vania school is giving ughs the boot.

american airlines jet traveling from chicago to seattle made an emergency landing in idaho after an engine failure. the plane toucheddown safely. the pilot reported that one of the engines on the md-80 failed soon after takeoff. american airlines rebooked the 141 passengers on other airlines to get them to seattle. the pilot of a twin engine plane landed safely on a beach after having engine trouble. no one was injured. officials say the plane will now have to be taken apart so it can be hauled away from that beach. one person was killed in utah after being swept up in an avalanche. the 24-year-old snow border was with with others on a steep mountainside near utah when he got buried. they used avalanche beacons to

find the snow border but he died shortly thereafter. >> helicopters went to the site where the after large had take -- avalanche had taken place. they said they had found their friend and he was deceased. >> police will not release the victims name until the family is notified. governor of alabama is hoping new tornado safety measures will help save lives during the next council. those recommendations were delivered to the governor last monday. the same day multiple tornadoes ripped through the state killing two people. tougher building codes, more tornado shelters and emergency supplies were all part of the recommendations. the list comes as more twisters could be on the way. >> the type of weather pattern that is set upright now is very active. it tends to get more active as you get into march and april.

>> 177 tornadoes hit alabama last year. making it the state with the highest number of twisters. time is 7:24. it's nice outside right now. but rosemary is watching our forecast to see if things might change later. >> yes. good morning, to you. high clouds sweeping over head. we will see those increase for the afternoon. that will offset our heating for the afternoon. we'll be anywhere from 2-4 to 6 degrees cooler in some areas for your sunday. still a little bit above average for this time of year. this morning the high clouds offsetting the cooling we see in the overnight hours. and santa rosa as well as napa several degrows warmer than just 24 hours ago. sitting in the upper 30s to low 40s around the inland spots for your 9:00 hour. upper 40s and low 50s for the bay. for noontime mid 50s to low 60s expected under partly cloudy skies. and then for the afternoon 60 to 65 degrees around the bay

and our inland spots will equal another nice day. just not as warm as we felt on saturday. so the temperatures we see will continue to cool as we move into the extended forecast. by tonight and tomorrow morning the system that is initially bringing us these few high clouds will actually bring us a possibility of maybe a sprinkle. it looks like it will happen right between 7:00, # in the morning for the north bay. a little later than that for the south bay. it's changing a little bit from run to run. in any case we may see a little bit of drizzle monday morning. it will clear out and we're back to dry conditions and our afternoon highs will be seasonal. back to you. come monday students will be banned from wearing ugg books in pennsylvania. students will still be able to wear the sheep skin boots to school they just have to leave them in the locker when they go to class. they may reconsider the ban

pretty calm. >> she also dismissed occupy protestors. occupy protestors also hit the east coast this weekend. they took the streets of atlanta yesterday in the city's dawn -- downtown area. that is where they were seen spraying graffiti on buildings. it started earlier in the day at a chase bank branch. occupy protestors in washington, d.c. threw glitter on connecticut senator and former vice presidential candidate lieberman. the incident comes as the national parks service gets ready to end overnight camping at the occupy d.c. sites that is set to take place tomorrow. and in our election 2012 coverage former gop candidate for president herman cain is

endorsing newt gingrich. the reason says cain says he's endorsing the former house speaker just two days before the florida primary. concord police are searching for two gunmen that opened fire at a party injuring one person. it happened at the elks lodge. the gunman started shooting while people were leaving the party. as many as 200 people were in the area when police arrived. a 19-year-old from antioch was hit in the calf and taken to the hospital. police do not believe he was the intended target. right now police do not have any suspects. oakland police are investigating a deadly shooting. a woman was found in a driveway of a home on eddy and 34th streets around 1:30 this morning. police say the woman had been shot several times. she died at the scene. right now police have not given us any information about suspects or a motive. an 81-year-old woman is in critical condition after police say she was beaten and possibly sexually assaulted. she was found near a big o tire

store. the man that found her first thought she was homeless until he saw she was bleeding and noticed her eyes were swollen shut. >> she didn't talk to me at all. >> officers arrived. they contacted the female. they were able to at that point get her name and information. >> the woman was air lifted to a hospital in critical condition. police are not sure if she was robbed. the woman lives in the area and is known to take morning walks. no arrests have been made. san francisco police are warning of a money transfer scam targeting senior citizens. police say they have seen an increase in the crime in recent weeks. here's how it works. someone will call and elderly victim and claim to be a relative in a desperate situation. they will try to earn that victims trust and get them to wire money. now police say you should always verify the identity of anyone who calls and asks for money and always ask specific

questions a stranger would not know. people of all faiths came together at a san francisco church to call for an end to a controversial federal immigration program. hundreds packed st. mary's cathedral yesterday afternoon. they are asking state leaders to reform california's participation in the secure communities program. it requires local law enforcement to share the fingerprints with anyone arrested in jail and then check them against fbi and immigration data bases. >> some of the children are born here as citizens and all of a sudden the parents are gone. and we believe in the dignity of the human family. and that dignity means we respect them and try not to separate families. >> immigration officials say as of december more than 60,000 people been deported from california through the program. elementary school in santa rosa may be forced to shut its doors. the city school board wants to

close doyle park. members say the school has seen lower enrollment and falling academic performance and lost $180,000 during the 2010-2011 school year. if the closure happens they would be transferred to nearby schools. the santa clara county coroner has identified a man found dead near stanford hospital. they found the body of 68-year- old raymond vera thursday morning off of quarry road. officials say he has no known address. police said he was apparently dead for some time and there was no signs of foul play. the case remains under investigation. a music legend and a san francisco giants coach came together in napa for injured giants fan bryan stow.

greatful dead bob wear and tim head lined at uptown theater last night. the line to get inside that building wrapped around the block. bryan stow could not make et in person but his mother and sisters made it to that event. >> not everyone knows bryan and they still come out for him. that is amazing. >> god bless him. he can use all the help he can get right now. we're happy to be able to provide. >> items auctioned off in-- items auctioned off include autograph guitars. they hope to raise as much as $75,000. san francisco 49er defensive end aldean smith is out of a miami jail. the 22-year-old was arrested by miami beach police yesterday morning. he was released on a $1,000 bond. smith was seventh overall draft pick in 2011. this season he had 14 sacks.

the monitors arrive in syria last month to try and end the violence in the country. >> the arab league decided to withdraw its monitors at the right time because they were not convinced their mission was useful. >> we are grateful for them. >> the united nations says 5,000 people have been killed in syria since protests against president bashar started nearly a year ago. low level peace talks between israel and palestine continued this week. they include the united states, the united nations, the european union, and russia. the talks remain uncertain though. palestinian president accused israel of trying to spoil the negotiations. in peru more than two dozen people are dead after a fire at a rehabilitation center. it started on the second floor. when he jumped from the window to escape the smoke and flame. 27 people were killed and

parade for iraq war veterans was in st. louis this weekend. hundreds took part in yesterday's parade and thousands lined the streets to cheer them on. no other major cities have welcome home parades since president obama announced the end of war in december. president obama is teaming up with mountain base view google to discuss his recent state of the union address. tomorrow afternoon the president will participate in a 45 minute live video chat on google plus. that is the company's social networking site. they can submit their questions via owned youtube. this isn't the first time the president has used google to reach out to voter. he's taken part in a youtube town hall following previous state of the union addresses. a man is being called a hero for saving four students after a bridge collapsed underneath her bus. cell phone video shows how dangerous that situation was for the driver and the four elementary school students on

the game between vallejo and bethel high school. players got in a fight which caused both coaches and the teams to run on the court after things calmed down the referees ejected everyone from the game because of a rule that forbids a player or coach for going on to the court during a fight. the referees are expected to issue a report tomorrow if the game should be replayed. vallejo police officer who was killed in the line of duty was honored in a special way this weekend. officer james capoot was shoot and killed after chasing a bank suspect. hundreds of people walked from vallejo where he worked to vacaville where he lived. his three daughters took part and remembered their father with much love. >> he was a great man. he was my best friend. and he was the best man i ever knew and will ever know. i miss him. i love him. >> others remember officer capoot as a basketball coach that gave his all. a dinner and auction were also

from behind. the explorer flipped over and the driver got out of the car to help his two passengers. the driver was hit by another car. he was killed along with one of the passengers in the explorer. oakland police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one man dead and three others injured. it happened outside a house party around 2:00 this morning. it's not clear what lead up to the shooting but police say there may have been more than one gunman. two of the people that were injured are in critical condition. the condition of the third person is not known. oakland police are searching for the gunman that killed a woman overnight. the woman was found in the driveway of a home on eddie and 34th street. the woman had been shot several times. she died at the scene. right now police have not released any information about a suspect or motive. oakland police say a 15- year-old boy has admitted to killing his parents and hiding their bodies inside the family car. as we first reported yesterday

morning. police found the bodies friday night outside of a home. the oakland tribune reports the victims are 54-year-old robert kamin and 50-year-old susan poff. they made the discovery after one of them did not show up for work. police have not said how the couple die. autopsies are scheduled to take place tomorrow. a deadly crash on the train tracks was caused by a driver trying to go around the crossing arms. a video shows the passengers trying to help the victims. there was four people inside the suv three of them died including an infant. a man that was waiting on the oh side of the tracks said he saw what happened. >> she tried to go around the track. those sticks. they got hit. >> investigators say several cameras mounted on that light rail train confirm the driver tried to go around the crossing

arms. the impact of the crash pushed the suv 30 yards down the track. there was 50 people on the train at the time. six were hospitalized with minor injuries. oakland is getting ready to open the door to more marijuana dispensaries. the chronical is reporting the city will issue four new permits. right now four pot clubs operate in oakland and the city estimates they bring in an estimated $1 million a year in fees and taxes. the cash strap city needs the added revenue from the four new dispensaries. the city of oakland is getting ready to lay off more than 100 city employees due to the loss of state development money. san jose is getting rid of its regulations for medical marijuana clubs. chuck reid called for the suspension of the rules that the city just approved this past september. critics collected enough signatures to block the regulations. opponents of a north bay

hilton hotel. oakland police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one man dead and three others injured. it happened outside a house party around 2:00 this morning on east 18th and 20th avenue. it's not clear what lead up to the shooting. police say there could have been more than one gunman. the condition of the third person is not known. con concord police are searching for two gunmen that opened fire at a party injuring one person. it happened at the elks lodge around 11:30 last night. the gunman started shooting while people were leaving the party. as many as 200 people were in the area when police arrived. a 19-year-old from antioch was struck in the calf by a bullet and taken to the hospital. police do not believe she was the intended target right now police don't have any suspects. an 81-year-old woman is in critical condition after police say she was beaten and possibly

at least nine people are dead after a series of crashes in florida. here is a live look at interstate 75 near gainesville. the florida highway patrol says the pileup started around 3:45 this morning due to a combination of heavy fog and smoke. one officer is describing the pileup as the worst he's seen in his 27 year career. there you can see the

truck. the crash happened yesterday. oklahoma state police say the semi truck did not yield at a stop sign and hit the bus belonging to st. gregory university. two players and two coaches had to be taken to the hospital but they are expected to be okay. a dramatic water rescue in texas was caught on video by a police dash cam. the video shows a deputy rescuing when it -- you can see the officer going into the water. he was on routine patrol when he spotted brake lights sticking out of the lake. he got to the woman just as the car was filling with water. >> when the second one came out she kind of landed on top of my head. i go under for a second. when i turn around i see the other one going under water. i was able to grab her and kind of grab her like this. and able to walk out. >> the woman suffered minor scrapes and scratches from the broken glass but otherwise they are fine.
