was a peaceful march, about 100 protestors went downtown oakland to webster and mack kurt their. -- macarthur. >> police went with them and protestors did try to head to the police headquarters. police formed a line blocking their way and the protestors moved on. there was no confrontation and no arrests. the only disruption happened when they threw water bottles believed to cake urine at ktvu news crew and other news media. it was something that one protestor was quick to condemn. that is not the major part of the people there right now. from my own personal opinn, from what these guys said, that's messed up. now, february 6th. tomorrow. occupy oakland has a full day of demonstrations planned

critical condition. they had reports of shots fired just before 12:30 a.m. a man told police three men shot at him and his friend. they arrived aiser hospital and they found the man and the truck near the scene and began chasing them. the driver lost control and crashed the truck in albany. they arrested two of the men in the truck and escaped. >> a man in hayward is accused of side swiping a deputy's car. they hit the alameda sheriff's car on bean street. there was a short chase until the car stopped. the man was arrested on suspicion of dui. >> they have a damaged prius that was involved in a fatal hit and run accident. we told you about that on mornings on 2. and 4:30 a.m. a san francisco man was hit by

through downtown in west oakland over to webster and mcarthur. police followed the group along the route but there were no confrontations between police and protesters and there were no arrests. it was a very different scene from a week ago when 400 people were arrested after occupy supporters tried to take over a vacant convention building. police used tear gas and bean bag guns on the crowd at that event. nothing like that last night. in recent days, based on what occupy oakland supporters have written on discussion boards and twitter, there appears to be a debate within the movement about emphasizing nonviolence specifically as a protest tactic. there are comments on twitter like, we're losing the p.r. war and our message is being misconstrued. occupy oakland sent out tweets about last night's event saying, this is a peaceful march and let's end the war in oakland. one resident who says he is sympathetic to occupy oakland, says he's glad there were no problems last night. >> if the police can keep their

a san jose man is in jail accused of kidnapping his ex- girlfriend. police say the man forced the victim into his car around 7:00 yesterday morning in san jose. the woman was able to escape by jumping out of the car in milpitas. that is where she called a friend to pick her up. police arrested him yesterday afternoon. we have a follow up to a story we reported yesterday morning. the california department of water resources now says it's going to pay for damage to a fremont neighborhood. a water main belonging to the agency flooded an area around wabana street near i-680. that flood forced four families to stay in a hotel. the problems happened when the crews turned the waters back on. officials are not sure if a cover broke or if a worker foregot to tighten the caps. the family of an 18-year- old skate border taken off life

back flow devices. those devices are used to protect the public water supply from contamination. at least 60 back flow devices were stolen in in the past four months including eight this last week. the city is considering using different materials. the benicia state recreation area is also dealing with copper thefts. park rangers noticed the problem eight months ago. since then copper thieves have caused $30,000 in damage to that park. the main damage is from thieves digging large holes to steal buried utility company copper wires. the park will close in july. >> when you are taking the copper and you are essentially breaking down or thrashing whatever is existing, it just requires money to repair. >> state park officials have contacted recycling centers to ask them to look out for wires that mae come from that state park. surveillance video could help track down the suspects in a $3 million gold heist.

law enforcement officers released this footage of two men breaking into the case that held historic gold nuggets. the theft happened around wednesday overnight. investigators say it's not clear how the thieves broke the case which is supposedly made of unbreakable glass. there is a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. a missing family of three is safe after being rescued in southern oregon. the family left its camp cite to pick mushrooms last thursday and got lost in the woods. they were spotted by coast guard helicopter yesterday and air liftedded to the hospital. the helicopter pilot who found the three family members is the same man who found a san francisco family lost in the snowstorm in that same area in 2006. sacramento police arrested a suspected bank robber after he went into a wells fargo and claimed he had bombs inside a fast food bag. police responded. the robber left. that bag was still inside the bank. they found apple pies in the

new, australian authorities are sending in helicopters and cargo planes to evacuate thousands of flooded-out residents. heavy rains pounded the eastern part of that country. rivers have passed their banks and are currently threatening a number of communities. some remote areas are in desperate need of food and medical supplies. >> you therly devastated because of the uncertainty more than anything. >> rescue crews recovered the body of a woman who died trying to drive her truck through the flood waters. the woman handed off her 7-year- old son to a would-be rescuer before being swept away. at least seven people are dead after a car bomb exploded outside police headquarters in afghanistan. it happened earlier today in the city of kandahar. the bomb was detonated remotely. five police officers and two civilians were killed. 19 others were injured.

protesters of attacked seven syrian embassies around the world. the biggest problems occurred in berlin, cairo, and london. demonstrators say they want syrian president assad to step down. secretary of state hillary clinton today pleaded with countries to rally against his regime. the obama administration says it is still furious over russia and china vetoing a united nations resolution demanding syria stop its crackdown on government protesters. peace activists wanted americans to take notice of a potential conflict with iran. several hundred people marched down market street in san francisco yesterday. the group called world can't wait organized this rally. the event included several high profile anti-war activists. >> to negotiate as equals with

another large demonstration. we're live with what we're learning about that event. >> reporter: good morning. occupy oakland has put out word to supporters that they'll start the day at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow with a gathering in front of the courthouse in oakland. that's to support some of the protesters who were arrested last week. then at noon they're supposed to rally and march leaving from frank ogawa plaza. there's supposed to be a counter demonstration happening here at the same time. we have video of last night's occupy oakland demonstration. overall it was peaceful. about 100 protesters marched through downtown over to webster. police followed the group along the route but there were no confrontations between police and protesters. there were no arrested. it was a very different scene from one week ago when 400 people were arrested after occupy supporters tried to take over a vacant building. police used tear gas and bean

bags on the crowd. based on what occupy oakland supporters have written on discussion boards and twitter, there appears to be a debate within the movement locally about emphasizing nonviolence as a protest tactic in the future. there were comments like, we're losing the p.r. war. our message is being misconstrued. occupy oakland sent out tweets about last night's event saying this will be a peaceful march. let's end the war in oakland. >> that is the best approach is use of nonviolence because i think that otherwise their message is going to get sort of distorted by the fact that there are people going around destroying property and people getting hurt. >> reporter: occupy oakland is planning a rally to happen here at frank ogawa plaza at noon and at the same time another group called stand for oakland comprised of some business owners, homeowners and residents in oakland, they also plan to have a counter deposits

at the same time. back to you. indianapolis police are relying on technology to safeguard the super bowl. dollar thousand uniformed and nonuniformed officeers in the area around lucas oil stadium. there are also four police helicopters watching from the air. authorities have installed surveillance cameras on busy streets. security teams have been watching video feeds 24 hours day this week. >> we're using facial recognition technology so, if there's somebody that we're looking for in the crowd, we can identify them by facial characteristics and move a team in. >> officers are using tablet computers and smart phones to stay connected. super bowl organizers are still tweaking their strategy on crowd control. problems across friday night during a free concert. eleven people were hurt. 50,000 people flooded the super bowl village.

the city of new york trying to display the super bowl spirit in lights. last night the empire state building was lit up blue in honor of the new york giants. americans are spending big for the big game. the average super bowl watcher will shell out nearly $64 on game related items including snacks. that's up from $59 last year. 5.1 million people will buy a new tv specifically to watch the game. if you are nervous about the big game, that could have some damaging consequences. a psychologist says you need to remember, it's just a game. >> more you treat this as the pinnacle or the be all, end you will, the more you will be cognitively or mindfully invested in it and the more likely you are going to get stressed if the out come isn't

time for your live drivetime traffic. there is the 237 in milpitas. things are moving very smoothly over there. the bay bridge, there's the toll plaza, sun is shining, traffic moving just fine through the toll plaza right now. just over an hour ago a car crashed into a low income apartment building in oakland. we have new video. this is at haven's court boulevard and international. firefighters say the car was driving down international boulevard toward downtown. the car was speeding when it hit a light pole, flew over a

tree and crashed into that building. it's almost all the way in there. the drive got out of car and tried to flee. he was caught and arrested by police. no one was injured. bay area students are being invited to help design a section of the caldecott tunnel's fourth boar. caltrans is holding a medicine annal union design contest for students in contra costa county and alameda counties. that's the artwork above the entrance to the tunnel. the contest will open in a few weeks. starting tomorrow food trucks will be officially welcomed in alameda as long as they follow new regulations. the new rules will level the playing field between the trucks and local restaurants. vendors will have to get a local business license and special permits. they'll also have to follow health and safety regulations and pay the same types of taxes as restaurants. there are five off-street locations designated for food
