five. >> good evening. i'm ken wayne. >> i'm heather holmes. firefighters vallejo and beyond battled a massive fire at an abandoned warehouse. deborah talked to officials who say that homeless people may be responsible. >> reporter: smoke is still rising. these ruins are still burning. almost eight hours later as you can see all that's left are the support beams from the huge building. firefighters watched as this old warehouse melted away. four stories, 150,000 square feet. it was empty and away from other structures so. >> it's not worth risking firefighters lives to go in and try to make an attack. >> reporter: instead they doused it from a distance and posted crews to watch for spot fires. the warehouse built in the 40s

was condemned and due for demolition but fire did it first and more dramaticly. >> this thing was built they built things good then. there is a lot of wood in there. all that -- real dry boost. >> they used it for just storage of just about anything. >> reporter: those who have been inside the warehouse recall wood beams coated in preserviaives, creating heavy dark smoke. these are the fires early moments. >> it was very intense. it was a very intense flames. . >> reporter: and propane bottles squatters inside were heard exploding. >> there is probably a lot of furniture and stuff that have been brought in by homeless people that were living. >> reporter: if campers started the fire they didn't stay to say so. it did attract dozens of people watching who had to be pushed

back away from the smoke and the danger. >> my husband has a warehouse and he keeps his car at. he was worried. didn't know where -- what side it was on. >> reporter: fortunately this happened at i northern end of the island, the least developed part and the worst smoke drifted out over the water away from neighborhoods. crews will be out monitoring the scene all night and investigators won't get out to take a closer look until tomorrow or the next day because it's still very hot. we are live, ktvu channel 2news. >> that fire is the biggest fire there since the blaze that destroyed a wine warehouse. the wine central storage facility was destroyed back in october of 2005. while the warehouse that burned today was empty, the wine warehouse had 6 million bottles of wine. 92 wineries and 42 private collectors stored wine there

and it did $200 million in damage. authorities later arrested a man on suspicious of arson. >> as you can see from the report it's still smoky up there and the wind is blowing in. >> it is. let's get a check on the wind conditions from mark and how are things looking? >> reporter: winds not to extreme. maybe ten miles an hour. maybe tonight and tomorrow winds not a big factor. winds all day really haven't been that extreme but if you have taken a look at that fire l is a noticeable movement and direction and take a look at the maps on the island as you can see around highway 37 we will go head and widen out and those winds clocking out of the east and north a very defined wind direction. as a result the smoke transimportanted to these communities reports -- san rafael, nevado, so enough to transport the smoke in those areas. winds today not much of a deal but i'm tracking stronger winds and rain.

about 70 or so took to the streets around nine marching from city hall to oakland. officers followed them through the entire march. social media sites indicated that the demonstration could grow violent there. were no reports of violence, vandals or arrests. protesters gathered for a general assembly. they are planning another demonstration tomorrow. a rally and march. it's boeing called a day of action what they call police repression. supporters are asked to fill courtrooms as some of those arrested last week will be in court. police say they know about the events and have hired extra officers. we turn now to breaking news in oakland reports of a triple shooting. jade hernandez is live with the latest on what's happening. >> reporter: the crime tape is up. we know this shooting happened

between 32nd and 33ered. we can take you over here. we know right now this shooting happened about an hour ago. now take a look at this. this is video shot in the past hour. we don't have conditions on the victims, three people were shot. this is video here that you are looking at. again three people, multiple victims involved in this late afternoon shooting. we have been told police haven't made any arrests. i want to bring you back out live because it's a lot of evidence markers that litter the road. these usually mark shell casings, you can see police working. i want you to take a look at this corner market. a lot of people are still out here. i talked to a few people who said they hadn't hard anything yet but you can see how dangerous it would have been about an hour ago when it happened because a lot of people still out and about right now. police were -- we are still waiting for police to give a comment on what happened, on this investigation. there is a sergeant on scene.

we have been told he will come over to us and give us an update as soon as hek. right now all we know is the shooting happened in the past hour, three people have been shot, no updates on their conditions, of course as soon as we get more information we will pass it along. reporting live. >> authorities in washington say the husband of a missing utah woman killed himself and his two sons today in a house explosion. the home of josh powell was destroyed in the blast. the explosion happened moments after a social worker brought the two boys, age five and seven to the home for a supervisorred visit. the social worker said when they tried to walk in the house powell blocked her. the house then exploded moments later. he moved to washington after his wife disappeared in 2009. he said he had taken his sons on a midnight trip in freezing temperatures the night his wife vanished. police in richmond are investigating iodatedly

shooting yesterday. it happened in broad daylight. the gun fire started just before noon in the 1700 block of chandler. they found a 22-year-old man in the road with several gun shot wounds. he was taken to the hospital where he died. police haven't made any arrests movement about 12 hours later and just a few block away a man was hurt in a shooting near virginia avenue and 21st street. it happened just before 12:30. the victim was in the hospital with gun shot wounds, police found the suspected gunman in a truck near the scene started chasing them. the driver of the truck lost control and crashed in albany. police arrested two of the men but a third escaped. >> an oakland family is out of a home after a truck smashed in to their apartment. it happened around 8:30 at an apartment complex at international and havens court. a truck was speeding when it hit a light pole and flew over a tree before plowing in to the building and bursting in to

flames. we talked to one neighbor who saw it happen. >> the car caught on fire and they were trying to stop but they couldn't. we ran out of the house and it was just horrible. it was just a terrible accident. >> reporter: firefighters put out fire with in minutes. everybody inside the apartment got out up hurt. the driver of the truck took off on foot and was later arrested by oakland police. a suspect dui driver was arrested in hayward after he sideswiped a patrol car. it happened just before 10:30. the driver hit the deputy's car and kept ongoing. there was a short pursuit until the car stopped at forest and d street. the man was arrested on suspicious of driving under the influence. >> a fight to save a man's life. why his immigration status is holding up his chance at life saving surge. > >> former new york city mayor

. we want to return now to the top story tonight. a live look at a warehouse, destroyed by fire. you can see some smoke still covering the ground there. a four alarm blaze consumed the four story, 150,000 square foot building earlier today. all that's left are the support beams for the building. dozens of firefighters rushed to scene when it was reported just before 10:00 this morning. here is what it looked like earlier today. flames and dense black smoke from the building. the fire was at the northern end of the island and the wind pushed much of it out over the bay, away from the marina and downtown. officials believe homeless people started the fire there. are no reports of injuries. >> update now on the breaking news we brought you earlier in the newscast. we are now learn that five people were hurt in a drive by shooting in oakland.

it happened just before four this afternoon on the 3300 block of avalin. the victim had nonlife threatening injuries, no arrests have been made. >> this wednesday san francisco sheriff is scheduled to return to court to try to get a judge to let him resume contact with his son. the sheriff is bar from contacting his 2-year-old son since he was arrested january 13th on domestic violence charges involving his wife. on friday he became emotional as he told reporters he missed his son and his son missed him. he has pleaded not guilty to the domestic violence charges, his trial is set later this month. >> a second cruise ship with a nora virus outbreak docked in florida. it sailed in to port, this morning officials with the cruise line say 81 passengers and nine crew members came down with the illness.
